GAMMA: Global Bit Allocation for Mixed-Precision Models under Arbitrary Budgets

Mixed-precision quantization improves the budget--accuracy trade-off for large language models (LLMs) by allocating more bits to sensitive modules. However, automating this allocation at LLM scale faces a unique combination of constraints: learnable approaches require quantization-aware training, which is infeasible for billion-parameter models; training-free alternatives rely on static proxy metrics that miss cross-module interactions and must be recomputed per target budget; and search-based methods are expensive without guaranteeing exact budget compliance. We propose GAMMA, a quantizer-agnostic framework that learns module-wise precision preferences entirely within a post-training pipeline. GAMMA optimizes a teacher-forced hidden-state reconstruction objective under an augmented Lagrangian constraint, and projects the learned preferences into exact budget-feasible discrete assignments via integer programming. A key property is score reuse: because the learned preferences encode a stable sensitivity ranking rather than budget-specific weights, a single training run serves arbitrary deployment targets by re-solving only the integer program, reducing per-budget adaptation from hours to a few minutes. Across Llama and Qwen models (8B--32B), GAMMA outperforms both fixed-precision baselines (up to +12.99 Avg.) and search-based mixed-precision methods (up to +7.00 Avg.), and can match fixed 3-bit quality at 2.5-bit average precision, enabling deployment at substantially smaller memory footprints.

A Survey of Video-based Action Quality Assessment

Human action recognition and analysis have great demand and important application significance in video surveillance, video retrieval, and human-computer interaction. The task of human action quality evaluation requires the intelligent system to automatically and objectively evaluate the action completed by the human. The action quality assessment model can reduce the human and material resources spent in action evaluation and reduce subjectivity. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey of existing papers on video-based action quality assessment. Different from human action recognition, the application scenario of action quality assessment is relatively narrow. Most of the existing work focuses on sports and medical care. We first introduce the definition and challenges of human action quality assessment. Then we present the existing datasets and evaluation metrics. In addition, we summarized the methods of sports and medical care according to the model categories and publishing institutions according to the characteristics of the two fields. At the end, combined with recent work, the promising development direction in action quality assessment is discussed.

Achieving a Given Financial Goal with Optimal Deferred Term Insurance Purchasing Policy

This paper researches the problem of purchasing deferred term insurance in the context of financial planning to maximize the probability of achieving a personal financial goal. Specifically, our study starts from the perspective of hedging death risk and longevity risk, and considers the purchase of deferred term life insurance and deferred term pure endowment to achieve a given financial goal for the first time in both deterministic and stochastic framework. In particular, we consider income, consumption and risky investment in the stochastic framework, extending previous results in \cite{Bayraktar2016}. The time cutoff m and n make the work more difficult. However, by establishing new controls,``\emph{quasi-ideal value}" and``\emph{ideal value}", we solve the corresponding ordinary differential equations or stochastic differential equations, and give the specific expressions for the maximum probability. Then we provide the optimal life insurance purchasing strategies and the optimal risk investment strategies. In general, when m \geqslant 0, n>0, deferred term insurance or term life insurance is a better choice for those who want to achieve their financial or bequest goals but are not financially sound. In particular, if m >0, n \rightarrow \infty, our viewpoint also sheds light on reaching a bequest goal by purchasing deferred whole life insurance. It is worth noting that when m=0, n \rightarrow \infty, our problem is equivalent to achieving the just mentioned bequest goal by purchasing whole life insurance, at which point the maximum probability and the life insurance purchasing strategies we provide are consistent with those in \cite{Bayraktar2014, Bayraktar2016}.

CA-SpaceNet: Counterfactual Analysis for 6D Pose Estimation in Space

Reliable and stable 6D pose estimation of uncooperative space objects plays an essential role in on-orbit servicing and debris removal missions. Considering that the pose estimator is sensitive to background interference, this paper proposes a counterfactual analysis framework named CASpaceNet to complete robust 6D pose estimation of the spaceborne targets under complicated background. Specifically, conventional methods are adopted to extract the features of the whole image in the factual case. In the counterfactual case, a non-existent image without the target but only the background is imagined. Side effect caused by background interference is reduced by counterfactual analysis, which leads to unbiased prediction in final results. In addition, we also carry out lowbit-width quantization for CA-SpaceNet and deploy part of the framework to a Processing-In-Memory (PIM) accelerator on FPGA. Qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed method. To our best knowledge, this paper applies causal inference and network quantization to the 6D pose estimation of space-borne targets for the first time. The code is available at https://github.com/Shunli-Wang/CA-SpaceNet.

TSA-Net: Tube Self-Attention Network for Action Quality Assessment

In recent years, assessing action quality from videos has attracted growing attention in computer vision community and human computer interaction. Most existing approaches usually tackle this problem by directly migrating the model from action recognition tasks, which ignores the intrinsic differences within the feature map such as foreground and background information. To address this issue, we propose a Tube Self-Attention Network (TSA-Net) for action quality assessment (AQA). Specifically, we introduce a single object tracker into AQA and propose the Tube Self-Attention Module (TSA), which can efficiently generate rich spatio-temporal contextual information by adopting sparse feature interactions. The TSA module is embedded in existing video networks to form TSA-Net. Overall, our TSA-Net is with the following merits: 1) High computational efficiency, 2) High flexibility, and 3) The state-of-the art performance. Extensive experiments are conducted on popular action quality assessment datasets including AQA-7 and MTL-AQA. Besides, a dataset named Fall Recognition in Figure Skating (FR-FS) is proposed to explore the basic action assessment in the figure skating scene.

The First Round Result from the TianQin-1 Satellite

The TianQin-1 satellite (TQ-1), which is the first technology demonstration satellite for the TianQin project, was launched on 20 December 2019. The first round of experiment had been carried out from 21 December 2019 until 1 April 2020. The residual acceleration of the satellite is found to be about $1\times10^{-10}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$ and about $5\times10^{-11}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.05~{\rm Hz}\,$, measured by an inertial sensor with a sensitivity of $5\times10^{-12}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$. The micro-Newton thrusters has demonstrated a thrust resolution of $0.1~μ{\rm N}$ and a thrust noise of $0.3~μ{\rm N}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}$. The residual noise of the satellite with drag-free control is $3\times10^{-9}~{\rm m}/{\rm s}^{2}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$. The noise level of the optical readout system is about $30~{\rm pm}/{\rm Hz}^{1/2}$ at $0.1~{\rm Hz}\,$. The temperature stability at temperature monitoring position is controlled to be about $\pm3~{\rm mK}$ per orbit, and the mismatch between the center-of-mass of the satellite and that of the test mass is measured with a precision of better than $0.1~{\rm mm}$.

The impact of multilateral imported cases of COVID-19 on the epidemic control in China

Nowadays, the epidemic of COVID-19 in China is under control. However, the epidemic are developing rapidly around the world. Due to the normal migration of population, China is facing high risk from imported cases. The potential specific medicine and vaccine is still in the process of clinical trials. Currently, controlling the impact of imported cases is the key to prevent new outbreak of COVID-19 in China. In this paper, we propose two impulsive systems to describe the impact of multilateral imported cases of COVID-19. Based on the published data, we simulate and discussed the epidemic trends under different control strategies. We compare four different scenarios and show the corresponding medical burden. The results help to design appropriate control strategy for imported cases in practice.

The TianQin project: current progress on science and technology

TianQin is a planned space-based gravitational wave (GW) observatory consisting of three earth orbiting satellites with an orbital radius of about $10^5~{\rm km}$. The satellites will form a equilateral triangle constellation the plane of which is nearly perpendicular to the ecliptic plane. TianQin aims to detect GWs between $10^{-4}~{\rm Hz}$ and $1~{\rm Hz}$ that can be generated by a wide variety of important astrophysical and cosmological sources, including the inspiral of Galactic ultra-compact binaries, the inspiral of stellar-mass black hole binaries, extreme mass ratio inspirals, the merger of massive black hole binaries, and possibly the energetic processes in the very early universe or exotic sources such as cosmic strings. In order to start science operations around 2035, a roadmap called the 0123 plan is being used to bring the key technologies of TianQin to maturity, supported by the construction of a series of research facilities on the ground. Two major projects of the 0123 plan are being carried out. In this process, the team has created a new generation $17~{\rm cm}$ single-body hollow corner-cube retro-reflector which has been launched with the QueQiao satellite on 21 May 2018; a new laser ranging station equipped with a $1.2~{\rm m}$ telescope has been constructed and the station has successfully ranged to all the five retro-reflectors on the Moon; and the TianQin-1 experimental satellite has been launched on 20 December 2019 and the first round result shows that the satellite has exceeded all of its mission requirements.

Evolution Process of Wurtzite ZnO Films on Cubic MgO (001) Substrates: a Structural, Optical and Electronic Investigation of the Misfit Structures

The interface between hexagonal ZnO films and cubic MgO (001) substrates, fabricated through molecular beam epitaxy, are thoroughly investigated. X-ray diffraction and (scanning) transmission electron microscopy reveal that, at the substrate temperature above 200 degree C, the growth follows the single [0001] direction; while at the substrate below 150 degree C, the growth is initially along [0001] and then mainly changes to [0-332] variants beyond the thickness of about 10 nm. Interestingly, a double-domain feature with a rotational angle of 30 degree appears for the growth along [0001] regardless of the growth temperature, experimentally demonstrated the theoretical predictions for occurrence of double rotational domains in such a heteroepitaxy [Grundmann et al, Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 146102 (2010)]. It is also found that, the optical transmissivity of the ZnO film is greatly influenced by the mutation of growth directions, stimulated by the bond-length modulations, as further determined by X-ray absorption Spectra (XAS) at Zn K edge. The XAS results also show the evolution of 4pxy and 4pz states in the conduction band as the growth temperature increases. The results obtained from this work can hopefully promote the applications of ZnO in advanced optoelectronics for which its integration with other materials of different phases is desirable.

Minimum ranks of sign patterns via sign vectors and duality

A {\it sign pattern matrix} is a matrix whose entries are from the set $\{+,-, 0\}$. The minimum rank of a sign pattern matrix $A$ is the minimum of the ranks of the real matrices whose entries have signs equal to the corresponding entries of $A$. It is shown in this paper that for any $m \times n$ sign pattern $A$ with minimum rank $n-2$, rational realization of the minimum rank is possible. This is done using a new approach involving sign vectors and duality. It is shown that for each integer $n\geq 9$, there exists a nonnegative integer $m$ such that there exists an $n\times m$ sign pattern matrix with minimum rank $n-3$ for which rational realization is not possible. A characterization of $m\times n$ sign patterns $A$ with minimum rank $n-1$ is given (which solves an open problem in Brualdi et al. \cite{Bru10}), along with a more general description of sign patterns with minimum rank $r$, in terms of sign vectors of certain subspaces. A number of results on the maximum and minimum numbers of sign vectors of $k$-dimensional subspaces of $\mathbb R^n$ are obtained. In particular, it is shown that the maximum number of sign vectors of $2$-dimensional subspaces of $\mathbb R^n$ is $4n+1$. Several related open problems are stated along the way.

Sign patterns with minimum rank 3 and point-line configurations

A \emph{sign pattern (matrix)} is a matrix whose entries are from the set $\{+, -, 0\}$. The \emph{minimum rank} (respectively, \emph{rational minimum rank}) of a sign pattern matrix $\cal A$ is the minimum of the ranks of the real (respectively, rational) matrices whose entries have signs equal to the corresponding entries of $\cal A$. A sign pattern $\cal A$ is said to be \emph{condensed} if $\cal A$ has no zero row or column and no two rows or columns are identical or negatives of each other. In this paper, a new direct connection between condensed $m \times n $ sign patterns with minimum rank $r$ and $m$ point--$n$ hyperplane configurations in ${\mathbb R}^{r-1}$ is established. In particular, condensed sign patterns with minimum rank 3 are closed related to point--line configurations on the plane. It is proved that for any sign pattern $\cal A$ with minimum rank $r\geq 3$, if the number of zero entries on each column of $\cal A$ is at most $r-1$, then the rational minimum rank of $\cal A$ is also $r$. Furthermore, we construct the smallest known sign pattern whose minimum rank is 3 but whose rational minimum rank is greater than 3.

The minimum rank of a sign pattern matrix with a 1-separation

A sign pattern matrix is a matrix whose entries are from the set $\{+,-,0\}$. If $A$ is an $m\times n$ sign pattern matrix, the qualitative class of $A$, denoted $Q(A)$, is the set of all real $m\times n$ matrices $B=[b_{i,j}]$ with $b_{i,j}$ positive (respectively, negative, zero) if $a_{i,j}$ is + (respectively, $-$, 0). The minimum rank of a sign pattern matrix $A$, denoted $\mr(A)$, is the minimum of the ranks of the real matrices in $Q(A)$. Determination of the minimum rank of a sign pattern matrix is a longstanding open problem. For the case that the sign pattern matrix has a 1-separation, we present a formula to compute the minimum rank of a sign pattern matrix using the minimum ranks of certain generalized sign pattern matrices associated with the 1-separation.
