MemFine: Memory-Aware Fine-Grained Scheduling for MoE Training

The training of large-scale Mixture of Experts (MoE) models faces a critical memory bottleneck due to severe load imbalance caused by dynamic token routing. This imbalance leads to memory overflow on GPUs with limited capacity, constraining model scalability. Existing load balancing methods, which cap expert capacity, compromise model accuracy and fail on memory-constrained hardware. To address this, we propose MemFine, a memory-aware fine-grained scheduling framework for MoE training. MemFine decomposes the token distribution and expert computation into manageable chunks and employs a chunked recomputation strategy, dynamically optimized through a theoretical memory model to balance memory efficiency and throughput. Experiments demonstrate that MemFine reduces activation memory by 48.03% and improves throughput by 4.42% compared to full recomputation-based baselines, enabling stable large-scale MoE training on memory-limited GPUs.

One-loop squared amplitudes for hadronic $tW$ production at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD

We present the analytic results of one-loop squared amplitudes for $tW$ production at a hadron collider. The calculation is performed using the method of differential equations. After renormalization, we have checked that the infrared divergences agree with the general structure predicted by anomalous dimensions. The finite remainder contributes to the next-to-next-to-leading order hard function, one of the essential ingredients in the factorization formula of the cross section near the infrared region, which can be used in resummation of all-order soft gluon effects or a differential next-to-next-to-leading order calculation based on the phase space slicing method.

Berry-phase effects in dipole density and Mott relation

We provide a unified semiclassical theory for thermoelectric responses of any observable represented by an operator $\hat{\boldsymbolθ}$ that is well-defined in periodic crystals. The Einstein and Mott relations are established generally, in the presence of Berry-phase effects, for various physical realizations of $\hat{\boldsymbolθ}$ in electronic systems, including the familiar case of the electric current as well as the currently controversial cases of the spin polarization and spin current. The magnetization current, which has been proven indispensable in the thermoelectric response of electric current, is generalized to the cases of various $\hat{\boldsymbolθ}$. In our theory the dipole density of a physical quantity emerges and plays a vital role, which contains not only the statistical sum of the dipole moment of $\hat{\boldsymbolθ}$ but also a Berry-phase correction.

Secure Location-Aided Routing Protocols With Wi-Fi Direct For Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

Secure routing protocols are proposed for the vehicular ad hoc networks. The protocols integrate the security authentication process with the Location-Aided Routing (LAR) protocol to support Wi-Fi Direct communications between the vehicles. The methods are robust against various security threats. The security authentication process adopts a modified Diffie-Hellman key agreement protocol. The Diffie-Hellman protocol is used with a short authentication string (SAS)-based key agreement over Wi-Fi Direct out-of-band communication channels. It protects the communication from any man-in-the-middle security threats. In particular, the security process is integrated into two LAR routing schemes, i.e., the request-zone LAR scheme and the distance-based LAR scheme. We conduct extensive simulations with different network parameters such as the vehicular node density, the number of the malicious nodes, and the speed of the nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed routing protocols provide superior performance in secure data delivery and average total packet delay. Also, the secure distance-based LAR protocol outperforms the secure request-zone LAR protocol.

The Apps You Use Bring The Blogs to Follow

We tackle the blog recommendation problem in Tumblr for mobile users in this paper. Blog recommendation is challenging since most mobile users would suffer from the cold start when there are only a limited number of blogs followed by the user. Specifically to address this problem in the mobile domain, we take into account mobile apps, which typically provide rich information from the users. Based on the assumption that the user interests can be reflected from their app usage patterns, we propose to exploit the app usage data for improving blog recommendation. Building on the state-of-the-art recommendation framework, Factorization Machines (FM), we implement app-based FM that integrates app usage data with the user-blog follow relations. In this approach the blog recommendation is generated not only based on the blogs that the user followed before, but also the apps that the user has often used. We demonstrate in a series of experiments that app-based FM can outperform other alternative approaches to a significant extent. Our experimental results also show that exploiting app usage information is particularly effective for improving blog recommendation quality for cold start users.

G-Bean: an ontology-graph based web tool for biomedical literature retrieval

Currently, most people use PubMed to search the MEDLINE database, an important bibliographical information source for life science and biomedical information. However, PubMed has some drawbacks that make it difficult to find relevant publications pertaining to users' individual intentions, especially for non-expert users. To ameliorate the disadvantages of PubMed, we developed G-Bean, a graph based biomedical search engine, to search biomedical articles in MEDLINE database more efficiently.G-Bean addresses PubMed's limitations with three innovations: parallel document index creation,ontology-graph based query expansion, and retrieval and re-ranking of documents based on user's search intention.Performance evaluation with 106 OHSUMED benchmark queries shows that G-Bean returns more relevant results than PubMed does when using these queries to search the MEDLINE database. PubMed could not even return any search result for some OHSUMED queries because it failed to form the appropriate Boolean query statement automatically from the natural language query strings. G-Bean is available at http://bioinformatics.clemson.edu/G-Bean/index.php.G-Bean addresses PubMed's limitations with ontology-graph based query expansion, automatic document indexing, and user search intention discovery. It shows significant advantages in finding relevant articles from the MEDLINE database to meet the information need of the user.

Ultra-Broadband Coherent Supercontinuum Frequency Comb

We present detailed studies of the coherence properties of an ultra-broadband super-continuum, enabled by a new approach involving continuous wave laser sources to independently probe both the amplitude and phase noise quadratures across the entire spectrum. The continuum coherently spans more than 1.5 octaves, supporting Hz-level comparison of ultrastable lasers at 698 nm and 1.54 μm. We present the first numerical simulation of the accumulated comb coherence in the limit of many pulses, in contrast to the single-pulse level, with systematic experimental verification. The experiment and numerical simulations reveal the presence of quantum-seeded broadband amplitude noise without phase coherence degradation, including the discovery of a dependence of the super-continuum coherence on the fiber fractional Raman gain.
