Plasma absorption levelling by phase coherence in meta-surface stacked structure

In this paper, we propose a MIM (metallic metasurface-insulator-metal) stacked structure to realize perfect absorption in mid- and far- infrared bandwidth. A large number of metallic composite metallic units placed on a uniform layer of insulator Ge which is deposited on a uniform metallic Ti surface. Each of units consists of four right-angled triangular cubes in middle of four sides of a square. Three resonant absorption peaks can be discrete or levelling dependent to thickness of cubes. Once metallic cubes are thinner than its skin depth, an effective ultra-broadband absorber is realizable with average absorption over 90% percent ranging from 8-14μm. We build a four-level cavity-dipole interacting model to explain phenomena of plasma absorption levelling. This is created by strong phase coherence from meta-surface since three hybrid modes are coupled by common cavity photons in arrays of micro-cavities between top and below metallic layers. The structure is polarization-selective to infrared light. It has great potential in infrared detection and imaging.

A catalog of early-type Hα emission line stars and 58 newly confirmed Herbig Ae/Bes from LAMOST DR7

We derive a catalog of early-type emission-line stars including 30,048 spectra of 25,886 stars from LAMOST DR7, in which 3,922 have Simbad records. The sample is obtained using K-Nearest Neighbor and Random Forest methods and visually inspected. The spectra are classified into 3 morphological types (10 subtypes) based on H$α$ emission line profiles. Some spectra contaminated by nebula emission lines such as from HII regions are flagged in the catalog. We also provide a specific sub-catalog of 101 stars with the stellar wind by calculating stellar wind or accretion flow velocities based on P Cygni or inverse P Cygni profiles, in which 74\% of them having velocities below 400km/s. More important, with two color-color diagrams (H-K, K- W1) and (H-K, J-H) of a collection of known Herbig Ae/Be stars (HAeBes) and classical Ae/Be stars (CAeBes), we propose an updated criterion to separate HAeBes from CAeBes. By the criterion, we select 201 HAeBes candidates and 5,547 CAeBes candidates from the sample. We confirmed 66 of the 201 HAeBes by using both WISE images and LAMOST spectra and present a specific HAeBe sub-catalog, in which 58 are newly identified. In addition, the WISE colors (W1-W2, W1- W3, and W1-W4) show the distribution consistency between our confirmed HAeBes and that of the known HAeBes. Most of the 66 confirmed HAeBes locate in the lower edge of the main sequence of hot end in the HR diagram, while the distances of about 77\% exceed 1Kpc, which enlarges the number of far distant known HAeBes.

Stellar populations of galaxies in the LAMOST spectral survey

We firstly derive the stellar population properties: age and metallicity for $\sim$ 43,000 low redshift galaxies in the seventh data release (DR7) of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) survey, which have no spectroscopic observations in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey(SDSS). We employ a fitting procedure based on the small-scale features of galaxy spectra so as to avoid possible biases from the uncertain flux calibration of the LAMOST spectroscopy. We show that our algorithm can successfully recover the average age and metallicity of the stellar populations of galaxies down to signal-to-noise$\geq$5 through testing on both mock galaxies and real galaxies comprising LAMOST and their SDSS counterparts. We provide a catalogue of the age and metallicity for $\sim$ 43,000 LAMOST galaxies online. As a demonstration of the scientific application of this catalogue, we present the Holmberg effect on both age and metallicity of a sample of galaxies in galaxy pairs.

M Subdwarf Research. II. Atmospheric Parameters and Kinematics

Applying the revised M subdwarf classification criteria discussed in Paper I to LAMOST DR7, combining the M subdwarf sample from Savcheva et al, a new M subdwarf sample was constructed for further study. The atmospheric parameters for each object were derived fitting with the PHOENIX grid, combining with Gaia DR2, the relationship between the gravity and metallicity were explored according to the locus both in the color-absolute magnitude diagram and the reduced proper motion diagram. Objects that have both the largest gravity and the lowest metallicity are located away from the main-sequence cloud and may be considered as the intrinsic M subdwarfs, which can be classified as luminosity class VI. Another group of objects whose spectra show typical M subdwarf characters have lower gravity and relatively moderate metal deficiency and occupy part of the ordinary M dwarf region in both diagrams. The Galactic U , V , W space velocity components and their dispersion show that the local Galactic halo population sampled in the solar neighborhood is represented by objects of high gravity and an inconspicuous bimodal metallicity distribution, with a fraction of prograde orbits. The other M subdwarfs seem to partly belong to the thick disk component with a significant fraction of thin disk moderately metal-poor objects intricately mixed with them. However, the selection effects, especially the favored anti-center direction of investigation in the LAMOST sub-sample, but also contamination by multiplicity and parameter coupling could play important roles and need to be further investigated.

Spectroscopically Identified Cataclysmic Variables from LAMOST survey. I. The Sample

A sample of Cataclysmic Variables (CVs) is presented including spectroscopically identified 380 spectra of 245 objects, of which 58 CV candidates are new discoveries. The BaggingTopPush and the Random Forest algorithms are applied to the Fifth Data Release (DR5) of LAMOST to retrieve CVs with strong emission lines and with broad absorption lines respectively. Based on spectroscopic classification, 134 dwarf novae, 41 nova-like variables and 19 magnetic CVs are identified from the sample. In addition, 89 high--inclination systems and 33 CVs showing companion stars are recognized and discussed for their distinct spectral characteristics. Comparisons between CVs from LAMOST and from published catalogs are made in spatial and magnitude distribution, and the difference of their locus in Gaia color--absolute magnitude diagram (CaMD) are also investigated. More interestingly, for two dwarf novae observed through LAMOST and SDSS in different epoch, their spectra both in quiescence phase and during outburst are exhibited.

On some 1/4 BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops

In this paper, we investigate the 1/4 BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops in $\mathcal{N}$=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We use the bulk D3-brane solutions with both electric and magnetic charges on its world-volume to describe some of 1/4 BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops. The D3-brane supersymmetric solutions are derived form requiring $κ$-symmetry. We find the two consistent constraints for Killing spinors and calculate the conserved charges of straight 1/4 BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops and expectation values of circular 1/4 BPS Wilson-'t Hooft loops separately.

Coherent State Functional Integral in Loop Quantum Cosmology: Alternative Dynamics

Coherent state functional integral for the minisuperspace model of loop quantum cosmology is studied. By the well-established canonical theory, the transition amplitude in the path integral representation of loop quantum cosmology with alternative dynamics can be formulated through group averaging. The effective action and Hamiltonian with higher-order quantum corrections are thus obtained. It turns out that for a non-symmetric Hamiltonian constraint operator, the Moyal (star)-product emerges naturally in the effective Hamiltonian. For the corresponding symmetric Hamiltonian operator, the resulted effective theory implies a possible quantum cosmological effect in large scale limit in the alternative dynamical scenario, which coincides with the result in canonical approach. Moreover, the first-order modified Friedmann equation still contains the particular information of alternative dynamics and hence admits the possible phenomenological distinction between the different proposals of quantum dynamics.

Coherent State Functional Integrals in Quantum Cosmology

Coherent state functional integrals for the minisuperspace models of quantum cosmology are studied. By the well-established canonical theories, the transition amplitudes in the path-integral representations of Wheeler-DeWitt quantum cosmology and loop quantum cosmology can be formulated through group averaging. The effective action and Hamiltonian with higher-order quantum corrections are thus obtained in both models. It turns out that for a non-symmetric Hamiltonian constraint operator, the Moyal (star)-product emerges naturally in the effective Hamiltonian. This reveals the intrinsic relation among coherent state functional integral, effective theory and star-product. Moreover, both the resulted effective theories imply a possible quantum cosmological effect in large scale limit.

Path Integrals and Alternative Effective Dynamics in Loop Quantum Cosmology

The alternative dynamics of loop quantum cosmology is examined by the path integral formulation. We consider the spatially flat FRW models with a massless scalar field, where the alternative quantization inherit more features from full loop quantum gravity. The path integrals can be formulated in both timeless and deparameterized frameworks. It turns out that the effective Hamiltonians derived from the two different viewpoints are equivalent to each other. Moreover, the first-order modified Friedmann equations are derived and predict quantum bounces for contracting universe, which coincide with those obtained in canonical theory.

Path Integral and Effective Hamiltonian in Loop Quantum Cosmology

We study the path integral formulation of Friedmann universe filled with a massless scalar field in loop quantum cosmology. All the isotropic models of $k=0,+1,-1$ are considered. To construct the path integrals in the timeless framework, a multiple group-averaging approach is proposed. Meanwhile, since the transition amplitude in the deparameterized framework can be expressed in terms of group-averaging, the path integrals can be formulated for both deparameterized and timeless frameworks. Their relation is clarified. It turns out that the effective Hamiltonian derived from the path integral in deparameterized framework is equivalent to the effective Hamiltonian constraint derived from the path integral in timeless framework, since they lead to same equations of motion. Moreover, the effective Hamiltonian constraints of above models derived in canonical theory are confirmed by the path integral formulation.
