Kinematic dependence of azimuthal anisotropies in pp++Au, dd++Au, 3^3He+Au at sNN\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = 200 GeV

There is strong evidence for the formation of small droplets of quark-gluon plasma in p/d/3p/d/^{3}He+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and in pp+pp/Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. In particular, the analysis of data at RHIC for different geometries obtained by varying the projectile size and shape has proven insightful. In the present analysis, we find excellent agreement with the previously published PHENIX at RHIC results on elliptical and triangular flow with an independent analysis via the two-particle correlation method, which has quite different systematic uncertainties and an independent code base. In addition, the results are extended to other detector combinations with different kinematic (pseudorapidity) coverage. These results provide additional constraints on contributions from nonflow and longitudinal decorrelations.

Evidence for Zc±Z_{c}^{\pm} decays into the ρ±ηcρ^{\pm} η_{c} final state

We study e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions with a π+π−π0ηcπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c} final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies s=4.226\sqrt{s}=4.226, 4.2584.258, 4.3584.358, 4.4164.416, and 4.6004.600 GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of 3.9σ3.9σ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be (48±11±11) pb(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The ratios $R_{\zc}=\BR(\zcpm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcpm\to π^{\pm} \jpsi)$ and $R_{\zcp}=\BR(\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcppm\to π^{\pm} \hc)$ are obtained and used to discriminate between different theoretical interpretations of the $\zcpm$ and $\zcppm$.

Observation of a cross-section enhancement near mass threshold in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ

The process e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ is studied using data samples at s=2.2324\sqrt{s}=2.2324, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section is measured at s\sqrt{s}=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the ΛΛˉΛ\barΛ mass threshold, to be 305±45−36+66305\pm45^{+66}_{-36} pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The substantial cross section near threshold is significantly larger than that expected from theory, which predicts the cross section to vanish at threshold. The Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV are measured and found to be consistent with previous experimental results, but with improved precision. Finally, the corresponding effective electromagnetic form factors of ΛΛ are deduced.

SN 2018hti: a nearby superluminous supernova discovered in a metal-poor galaxy

SN 2018hti is a Type I superluminous supernova (SLSN~I) with an absolute gg-band magnitude of −22.2-22.2 at maximum brightness, discovered in a metal-poor galaxy at a redshift of 0.0612. We present extensive photometric and spectroscopic observations of this supernova, covering the phases from ∼−35\sim -35 days to more than +340 days from the rr-band maximum. Combining our BVgriBVgri-band photometry with {\it Swift} UVOT optical/ultraviolet photometry, we calculated the peak luminosity as ∼3.5×1044\sim 3.5\times10^{44} erg s−1^{-1}. Modeling the observed light curve reveals that the luminosity evolution of SN 2018hti can be produced by an ejecta mass of 5.8 M⊙M_\odot and a magnetar with a magnetic field of B=1.8×1013B=1.8\times10^{13}~G having an initial spin period of P0=1.8P_0=1.8 ms. Based on such a magnetar-powered scenario and a larger sample, a correlation between the spin of the magnetar and the kinetic energy of the ejecta can be inferred for most SLSNe~I, suggesting a self-consistent scenario. Like for other SLSNe~I, the host galaxy of SN 2018hti is found to be relatively faint (Mg=−17.75M_{g} = -17.75 mag) and of low metallicity (Z=0.3 Z⊙Z=0.3~Z_\odot), with a star-formation rate of 0.3 M⊙M_\odot yr−1^{-1}. According to simulation results of single-star evolution, SN 2018hti could originate from a massive, metal-poor star with a zero-age main sequence (ZAMS) mass of 25--40 M⊙M_\odot, or from a less massive rotating star with MZAMS≈16M_\mathrm{ZAMS} \approx 16--25 M⊙M_\odot. For the case of a binary system, its progenitor could also be a star with MZAMS≳25M_\mathrm{ZAMS} \gtrsim 25 M⊙M_\odot.

A Triple-Energy-Source Model for Superluminous Supernova iPTF13ehe

Almost all superluminous supernovae (SLSNe) whose peak magnitudes are ≲−21\lesssim -21 mag can be explained by the 56^{56}Ni-powered model, magnetar-powered (highly magnetized pulsar) model or ejecta-circumstellar medium (CSM) interaction model. Recently, iPTF13ehe challenges these energy-source models, because the spectral analysis shows that ∼2.5M⊙\sim 2.5M_\odot of 56^{56}Ni have been synthesized but are inadequate to power the peak bolometric emission of iPTF13ehe, while the rebrightening of the late-time light-curve (LC) and the Hαα emission lines indicate that the ejecta-CSM interaction must play a key role in powering the late-time LC. Here we propose a triple-energy-source model, in which a magnetar together with some amount (≲2.5M⊙\lesssim 2.5M_\odot) of 56^{56}Ni may power the early LC of iPTF13ehe while the late-time rebrightening can be quantitatively explained by an ejecta-CSM interaction. Furthermore, we suggest that iPTF13ehe is a genuine core-collapse supernova rather than a pulsational pair-instability supernova candidate. Further studies on similar SLSNe in the future would eventually shed light on their explosion and energy-source mechanisms.

Improved measurement of the absolute branching fraction of D+→Kˉ0μ+νμD^{+}\rightarrow \bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ

By analyzing 2.93 fb−1^{-1} of data collected at s=3.773\sqrt s=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction B(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ)=(8.72±0.07stat.±0.18sys.)%{\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=(8.72 \pm 0.07_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.18_{\rm sys.})\%, which is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle Data Group values of B(D0→K−μ+νμ){\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ), B(D+→Kˉ0e+νe){\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e}), and the lifetimes of the D0D^0 and D+D^+ mesons with the value of B(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ){\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ) measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of partial widths: Γ(D0→K−μ+νμ)/Γ(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ)=0.963±0.044Γ(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=0.963\pm0.044 and Γ(D+→Kˉ0μ+νμ)/Γ(D+→Kˉ0e+νe)=0.988±0.033Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})=0.988\pm0.033.

Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in inclusive charged dipion production in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations at s\sqrt{s} = 3.65 GeV

We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process e+e−→ππXe^+e^-\rightarrow ππX based on a data set of 62 pb−1\rm{pb}^{-1} at the center-of-mass energy s=3.65\sqrt{s}=3.65 GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.

Measurement of the Ds+→ℓ+νℓD_s^+ \to \ell^+ν_\ell branching fractions and the decay constant fDs+f_{D_s^+}

Using 482~pb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of s=4.009\sqrt{s} = 4.009 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions of the decays Ds+→μ+νμD_s^+\toμ^+ν_μ and Ds+→τ+ντD_s^+\toτ^+ν_τ. By constraining the ratio of decay rates of Ds+D_s^+ to τ+νττ^+ν_τ and to μ+νμμ^+ν_μ to the Standard Model prediction, the branching fractions are determined to be B(Ds+→μ+νμ)=(0.495±0.067±0.026)%\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to μ^+ν_μ) = (0.495 \pm 0.067 \pm 0.026)\% and B(Ds+→τ+ντ)=(4.83±0.65±0.26)%\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to τ^+ν_τ) = (4.83 \pm 0.65 \pm 0.26)\%. Using these branching fractions, we obtain a value for the decay constant fDs+f_{D_s^+} of (241.0±16.3±6.5) MeV(241.0 \pm 16.3 \pm 6.5)~\text{MeV}, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic.

Measurements of absolute hadronic branching fractions of Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} baryon

Using 567pb−1567\rm{pb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions recorded at s=4.599GeV\sqrt{s}=4.599\rm{GeV} with the BESIII detector, we report first measurements of absolute hadronic branching fractions of Cabibbo-favored decays of the Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} baryon with a double-tag technique. A global least-square fitter is utilized to improve the measured precision. Among the measurements for twelve Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} decay modes, the branching fraction for Λc+→pK−π+Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow pK^-π^+ is determined to be (5.84±0.27±0.23)%(5.84\pm0.27\pm0.23)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, the measurements of the branching fractions of the other eleven Cabbibo-favored hadronic decay modes are significantly improved.

The process e+e−→η′J/ψe^{+}e^{-}\to η^{\prime} J/ψ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of 8.6σ8.6σ at center-of-mass energy s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 GeV and 7.3σ7.3σ at s=4.258\sqrt{s} = 4.258 GeV using data samples collected with the BESIII detector. The Born cross sections are measured to be (3.7±0.7±0.3)(3.7 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.3) and (3.9±0.8±0.3)(3.9 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.3) pb at s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 and 4.2584.258 GeV, respectively, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Upper limits at the 90% confidence level of the Born cross sections are also reported at other 12 energy points.

Observation of e+e−→ωχc1,2e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c1,2} near s\sqrt{s} = 4.42 and 4.6 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies s>\sqrt{s} > 4.4 GeV, the processes e+e−→ωχc1,2e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c1,2} are observed for the first time. With an integrated luminosity of 1074pb−11074 pb^{-1} near s=\sqrt{s} = 4.42 GeV, a significant ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signal is found, and the cross section is measured to be $(20.9 \pm 3.2 \pm 2.5)\pb$. With 567pb−1567 pb^{-1} near s=\sqrt{s} = 4.6 GeV, a clear ωχc1ωχ_{c1} signal is seen, and the cross section is measured to be $(9.5 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.3) \pb$, while evidence is found for an ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signal. The first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to low luminosity or low cross section at other energies, no significant signals are observed. In the ωχc2ωχ_{c2} cross section, an enhancement is seen around s=\sqrt{s} = 4.42 GeV. Fitting the cross section with a coherent sum of the ψ(4415)ψ(4415) Breit-Wigner function and a phase space term, the branching fraction B(ψ(4415)→ωχc2)\mathcal{B}(ψ(4415)\toωχ_{c2}) is obtained to be of the order of 10−310^{-3}.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} mass spectrum near the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold in J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}

Using 1.09×1091.09\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton (ppˉp\bar{p}) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} line shape around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2} with strong couplings to ppˉp\bar{p} final states or a narrow state just below the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a ppˉp\bar{p} molecule-like state or bound state with greater than 7σ7σ significance.

Observation of pseudoscalar and tensor resonances in J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ

Based on a sample of (1310.6±10.5)×106(1310.6 \pm 10.5) \times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ is performed in order to study the intermediate states. Results of the partial wave analysis show that the structures are predominantly 0−+0^{-+} states. The existence of the η(2225)η(2225) is confirmed, and its resonance parameters are measured. Two additional pseudoscalar states, the η(2100)η(2100) with a mass of 2050−24+30−26+752050_{-24}^{+30}{}_{-26}^{+75}~MeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 250−30+36−164+181250_{-30}^{+36}{}_{-164}^{+181}~MeV/c2c^{2} and the X(2500)X(2500) with a mass of 2470−19+15−23+1012470_{-19}^{+15}{}_{-23}^{+101}~MeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 230−35+64−33+56230_{-35}^{+64}{}_{-33}^{+56}~MeV/c2c^{2}, are observed. In addition to these three pseudoscalar states, the scalar state f0(2100)f_0(2100), and three tensor states, the f2(2010)f_2(2010), f2(2300)f_2(2300) and f2(2340)f_2(2340), are observed in the process J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ. Probing the Birth of Post-merger Millisecond Magnetars by X-ray and Gamma-ray Emission

There is growing evidence that a stable magnetar could be formed from the coalescence of double neutron stars. In previous papers, we investigated the signature of formation of stable millisecond magnetars in radio and optical/ultraviolet bands by assuming that the central rapidly rotating magnetar deposits its rotational energy in the form of a relativistic leptonized wind. We found that the optical transient PTF11agg could be the first evidence for the formation of post-merger millisecond magnetars. To enhance the probability of finding more evidence for the post-merger magnetar formation, it is better to extend the observational channel to other photon energy bands. In this paper we propose to search the signature of post-merger magnetar formation in X-ray and especially gamma-ray bands. We calculate the SSC emission of the reverse shock powered by post-merger millisecond magnetars. We find that the SSC component peaks at 1 GeV1\,{\rm GeV} in the spectral energy distribution and extends to ≳10 TeV\gtrsim 10\,{\rm TeV} for typical parameters. These energy bands are quite suitable for Fermi/LAT and CTA, which, with their current observational sensitivities, can detect the SSC emission powered by post-merger magnetars up to 1 Gpc1\,{\rm Gpc}. NuSTAR, sensible in X-ray bands, can detect the formation of post-merger millisecond magnetars at redshift z∼1z\sim 1. Future improvement in sensitivity of CTA can also probe the birth of post-merger millisecond magnetars at redshift z∼1z\sim 1. However, because of the γγ-γγ collisions, strong high-energy emission is clearly predicted only for ejecta masses lower than 10−3M⊙10^{-3}M_\odot.

Reverse Shock Emission Driven By Post-Merger Millisecond Magnetar Winds: Effects of the Magnetization Parameter

The study of short-duration gamma-ray bursts provides growing evidence that a good fraction of double neutron star mergers lead to the formation of stable millisecond magnetars. The launch of Poynting flux by the millisecond magnetars could leave distinct electromagnetic signatures that reveal the energy dissipation processes in the magnetar wind. In previous studies (Wang & Dai 2013b; Wang et al. 2015), we assume that the magnetar wind becomes completely lepton-dominated so that electrons/positrons in the magnetar wind are accelerated by a diffusive shock. However, theoretical modeling of pulsar wind nebulae shows that in many cases the magnetic field energy in the pulsar wind may be strong enough to suppress diffusive shock acceleration. In this paper, we investigate the reverse shock emission as well as the forward shock emission with an arbitrary magnetization parameter σσ of a magnetar wind. We find that the reverse shock emission strongly depends on σσ, and in particular, σ∼0.3σ\sim 0.3 leads to the strongest reverse shock emission. Future observations would be helpful to diagnose the composition of the magnetar wind.

We study the decays of the charmonium resonances J/ψJ/ψ and ψ(3686)ψ(3686) to the final states Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}, Σ(1385)∓Σˉ(1385)±Σ(1385)^{\mp}\barΣ(1385)^{\pm} based on a single baryon tag method using data samples of (223.7±1.4)×106(223.7 \pm 1.4) \times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ and (106.4±0.9)×106(106.4 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{6} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay ψ(3686)→Σ(1385)∓Σˉ(1385)±ψ(3686)\rightarrowΣ(1385)^{\mp}\barΣ(1385)^{\pm} is observed for the first time, and the measurements of the other processes, including the branching fractions and angular distributions, are in good agreement with and much more precise than the previously published results. Additionally, the ratios B(ψ(3686)→Ξ−Ξˉ+)B(J/ψ→Ξ−Ξˉ+)\frac{\cal{B}(ψ(3686)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+})}{\cal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+})}, B(ψ(3686)→Σ(1385)−Σˉ(1385)+)B(J/ψ→Σ(1385)−Σˉ(1385)+)\frac{\cal{B}(ψ(3686)\rightarrowΣ(1385)^{-}\barΣ(1385)^{+})}{\cal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrowΣ(1385)^{-}\barΣ(1385)^{+})} and B(ψ(3686)→Σ(1385)+Σˉ(1385)−)B(J/ψ→Σ(1385)+Σˉ(1385)−)\frac{\cal{B}(ψ(3686)\rightarrowΣ(1385)^{+}\barΣ(1385)^{-})}{\cal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrowΣ(1385)^{+}\barΣ(1385)^{-})} are determined.

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0M_{π^{0}π^{0}} from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0π^0π^0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0J/ψ\to γπ^{0}π^{0} is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10−3(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

Confirmation of a charged charmoniumlike state Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} in e+e−→π±(DDˉ∗)∓e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}(D\bar{D}^*)^\mp with double DD tag

We present a study of the process e+e−→π±(DDˉ∗)∓e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} using data samples of 1092~pb−1^{-1} at s=4.23\sqrt{s}=4.23~GeV and 826~pb−1^{-1} at s=4.26\sqrt{s}=4.26~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. With full reconstruction of the DD meson pair and the bachelor π±π^{\pm} in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged structure Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} in the (DDˉ∗)∓(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} system in the two isospin processes e+e−→π+D0D∗−e^+e^-\toπ^+D^0D^{*-} and e+e−→π+D−D∗0e^+e^-\toπ^+D^-D^{*0}. By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of Zc(3885)∓Zc(3885)^{\mp} signal is determined to be greater than 10σσ, and its pole mass and width are measured to be MpoleM_{\rm{pole}}=(3881.7±\pm1.6(stat.)±\pm1.6(syst.))~MeV/c2c^2 and ΓpoleΓ_{\rm{pole}}=(26.6±\pm2.0(stat.)±\pm2.1(syst.))~MeV, respectively. The Born cross section times the (DDˉ∗)∓(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} branching fraction (σ(e+e−→π±Zc(3885)∓)×Br(Zc(3885)∓→(DDˉ∗)∓)σ(e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}) \times Br(Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}\to(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp})) is measured to be (141.6±7.9(stat.)±12.3(syst.)) pb(141.6\pm7.9(\text{stat.})\pm12.3(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb} at s=4.23\sqrt{s}=4.23~GeV and (108.4±6.9(stat.)±8.8(syst.)) pb(108.4\pm6.9(\text{stat.})\pm8.8(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb} at s=4.26\sqrt{s}=4.26~GeV. The polar angular distribution of the π±π^{\pm}-Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} system is consistent with the expectation of a quantum number assignment of JP=1+J^P=1^+ for Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp}.

We report a measurement of the branching fraction of ψ(3770)→γχc1ψ(3770)\toγχ_{c1} and search for the transition ψ(3770)→γχc2ψ(3770)\rightarrow γχ_{c2} based on 2.92~fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- data accumulated at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The measured branching fraction of ψ(3770)→γχc1ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c1} is B(ψ(3770)→γχc1)=(2.48±0.15±0.23)×10−3\mathcal B(ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c1})=(2.48 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.23) \times 10^{-3}, which is the most precise measurement to date. Measurement of yCPy_{CP} in D0−D‾0D^0-\overline{D}^0 oscillation using quantum correlations in e+e−→D0D‾0e^+e^-\to D^0\overline{D}^0 at s\sqrt{s} = 3.773\,GeV

We report a measurement of the parameter yCPy_{CP} in $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace-\ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ oscillations performed by taking advantage of quantum coherence between pairs of $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ mesons produced in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations near threshold. In this work, doubly-tagged $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ events, where one DD decays to a CPCP eigenstate and the other DD decays in a semileptonic mode, are reconstructed using a data sample of 2.92\,fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s\sqrt{s} = 3.773\,GeV. We obtain yCP=(−2.0±1.3±0.7)%y_{CP} = (-2.0\pm1.3\pm0.7)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is compatible with the current world average.

Measurement of the e+e−→π+π−\mathrm e^+\mathrm e^-\rightarrow\mathrmπ^+\mathrmπ^- Cross Section between 600 and 900 MeV Using Initial State Radiation

We extract the e+e−→π+π−e^+e^-\rightarrow π^+π^- cross section in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV, exploiting the method of initial state radiation. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1^{-1} taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider is used. The cross section is measured with a systematic uncertainty of 0.9%. We extract the pion form factor ∣Fπ∣2|F_π|^2 as well as the contribution of the measured cross section to the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to (g−2)μ(g-2)_μ. We find this value to be aμππ,LO(600−900  MeV)=(368.2±2.5stat±3.3sys)⋅10−10a_μ^{ππ,\rm LO}(600-900\;\rm MeV) = (368.2 \pm 2.5_{\rm stat} \pm 3.3_{\rm sys})\cdot 10^{-10}.

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 3.810 to 4.600 GeV, we perform a study of e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ and π0J/ψπ^0 J/ψ. Statistically significant signals of e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ are observed at s\sqrt{s} = 4.190, 4.210, 4.220, 4.230, 4.245, 4.260, 4.360 and 4.420 GeV, while no signals of e+e−→π0J/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to π^{0} J/ψ are observed. The measured energy-dependent Born cross section for e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ shows an enhancement around 4.2~GeV. The measurement is compatible with an earlier measurement by Belle, but with a significantly improved precision.

We study Ds+D_{s}^{+} decays to final states involving the η′η' with a 482 \,pb−1^{-1} data sample collected at s\sqrt{s} = 4.009 \,GeV with the \mbox{BESIII} detector at the BEPCII collider. We measure the branching fractions B(Ds+→η′X)\mathcal{B}(D^+_{s}\rightarrow η'X) = (8.8±\pm1.8±\pm0.5)%\% and B(Ds+→η′ρ+)\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+}) = (5.8±1.4±0.45.8\pm1.4\pm0.4)%\% where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, we estimate an upper limit on the non-resonant branching ratio B(Ds+→η′π+π0)<5.1%\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'π^+π^0)<5.1\% at the 90%\% confidence level. Our results are consistent with CLEO's recent measurements and help to resolve the disagreement between the theoretical prediction and CLEO's previous measurement of B(Ds+→η′ρ+)\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+}).

Measurement of the Matrix Elements for the Decays η→π+π−π0η\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}π^0 and η/η′→π0π0π0η/η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0

Based on a sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^9 J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, Dalitz plot analyses of selected 79,625 η→π+π−π0η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}π^0 events, 33,908 η→π0π0π0η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 events and 1,888 η′→π0π0π0η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 events are performed. Measurement of the proton form factor by studying e+e−→ppˉe^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of e+e−→ppˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p} at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal (∣GE∣=∣GM∣)(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|). In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|, and ∣GM∣|G_{M}| are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at s=\sqrt{s}= 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at s\sqrt{s} = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same q2q^{2} region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that ∣GE∣=∣GM∣|G_{E}|=|G_{M}| within uncertainties.

The measured mass of the X(3823)X(3823) is (3821.7±1.3±0.7)(3821.7\pm 1.3\pm 0.7)~MeV/c2c^2, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic, and the width is less than 1616~MeV at the 90\% confidence level. The products of the Born cross sections for e+e−→π+π−X(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) and the branching ratio B[X(3823)→γχc1,c2]\mathcal{B}[X(3823)\to γχ_{c1,c2}] are also measured. These measurements are in good agreement with the assignment of the X(3823)X(3823) as the ψ(13D2)ψ(1^3D_2) charmonium state.

Observation of the Dalitz Decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. The η′η' mesons are produced via the J/ψ→γη′J/ψ\to γη' decay process. The ratio Γ(η′→γe+e−)/Γ(η′→γγ)Γ(η' \to γe^+ e^-)/Γ(η'\toγγ) is measured to be (2.13±0.09(stat.)±0.07(sys.))×10−2(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(η′→γe+e−)=(4.69±0.20(stat.)±0.23(sys.))×10−4{\cal B}(η' \to γe^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e+e−e^+e^- invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model.

Observation of the electromagnetic doubly OZI-suppressed decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}

Using a sample of 1.311.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}, which is the first evidence for a doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka suppressed electromagnetic J/ψJ/ψ decay. A clear structure is observed in the K+K−K^{+} K^{-} mass spectrum around 1.02 GeV/c2c^2, which can be attributed to interference between J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0} and J/ψ→K+K−π0J/ψ\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} decays. Due to this interference, two possible solutions are found. The corresponding measured values of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} are [2.94±0.16(stat.)±0.16(syst.)]×10−6[2.94 \pm 0.16\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.16\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6} and [1.24±0.33(stat.)±0.30(syst.)]×10−7[1.24 \pm 0.33\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.30\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-7}.

Observation of the isospin-violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}f_{0}(980)

Using a sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays J/ψ→ϕπ+π−π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and J/ψ→ϕπ0π0π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}π^{0}π^{0} are investigated. The isospin violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} f_{0}(980) with f0(980)→ππf_{0}(980) \to ππ, is observed for the first time. The width of the f0(980)f_{0}(980) obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller than the world average value. In the π0f0(980)π^{0} f_{0}(980) mass spectrum, there is evidence of f1(1285)f_1(1285) production. By studying the decay J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\to ϕη', the branching fractions of η′→π+π−π0η' \to π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and η′→π0π0π0η' \to π^{0}π^{0}π^{0}, as well as their ratio, are also measured.

Observation of the Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay D+→ωπ+D^{+}\toωπ^{+} and Evidence for D0→ωπ0D^{0}\toωπ^{0}

Based on 2.93 fb−1^{-1} e+e−e^+e^- collision data taken at center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector, we report searches for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D+→ωπ+D^{+}\toωπ^{+} and D0→ωπ0D^{0}\toωπ^{0}. A double tag technique is used to measure the absolute branching fractions B(D+→ωπ+)=(2.79±0.57±0.16)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toωπ^{+})=(2.79\pm0.57\pm0.16)\times 10^{-4} and B(D0→ωπ0)=(1.17±0.34±0.07)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toωπ^{0})=(1.17\pm0.34\pm0.07)\times 10^{-4}, with statistical significances of 5.5σ5.5σ and 4.1σ4.1σ, respectively. We also present measurements of the absolute branching fractions for the related ηπηπ decay modes. We find B(D+→ηπ+)=(3.07±0.22±0.13)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toηπ^{+})=(3.07\pm0.22\pm0.13)\times10^{-3} and B(D0→ηπ0)=(0.65±0.09±0.04)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toηπ^{0})=(0.65\pm0.09\pm0.04)\times10^{-3}, which are consistent with the current world averages. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Precision measurement of the D∗0D^{*0} decay branching fractions

Using 482 pb−1^{-1} of data taken at s=4.009\sqrt{s}=4.009 GeV, we measure the branching fractions of the decays of D∗0D^{*0} into D0π0D^0π^0 and D0γD^0γ to be $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)=(65.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ and $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ)=(34.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ respectively, by assuming that the D∗0D^{*0} decays only into these two modes. The ratio of the two branching fractions is $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05$, which is independent of the assumption made above. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of three compared to the present world average values.

Study of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\toωχ_{cJ} at center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 9 center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV, we search for the production of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\to ωχ_{cJ} (JJ=0, 1, 2). The process e+e−→ωχc0e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c0} is observed for the first time, and the Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=4.23 and 4.26 GeV are measured to be (55.4±6.0±5.9)(55.4\pm 6.0\pm 5.9) and (23.7±5.3±3.5)(23.7\pm 5.3\pm 3.5) pb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals at the other 7 energies and e+e−→ωχc1e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c1} and ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signals are not significant, and the upper limits on the cross sections are determined. By examining the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} cross section as a function of center-of-mass energy, we find that it is inconsistent with the line shape of the Y(4260)Y(4260) observed in e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^-\toπ^+π^-J/ψ. Assuming the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals come from a single resonance, we extract mass and width of the resonance to be (4230±8±6)(4230\pm8\pm6) MeV/c2c^2 and (38±12±2)(38\pm12\pm2) MeV, respectively, and the statistical significance is more than 9σ9σ.

Study of χcJχ_{cJ} decaying into ϕϕ K∗(892)K^*(892) Kˉ\bar{K}

Using a data sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII storage ring, we study for the first time the decay χcJ→ϕKS0K±π∓χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{0}_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp} and χcJ→ϕK+K−π0χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{+} K^{-}π^{0} in the E1 radiative transition ψ(3686)→γχcJψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}. The decays are dominated by the three-body decay χcJ→ϕK∗(892)Kˉχ_{cJ}\to ϕK^*(892)\bar{K}. We measure branching fractions for this reaction via the neutral and charged K∗(892)K^*(892) and find them consistent with each other within the expectation of isospin symmetry. In the KKˉπK\bar{K}π invariant mass distribution a structure near the K∗(892)KˉK^*(892)\bar{K} mass threshold is observed, and the corresponding mass and width are measured to be 1412±4(stat.)±8(sys.)MeV/c21412\pm4(\mathrm{stat.})\pm8(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2 and ΓΓ = 84±12(stat.)±40(sys.)MeV84\pm12(\mathrm{stat.})\pm40(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}, respectively. The observed state favors an assignment to the h1(1380)h_1(1380), considering its possible JPCJ^{PC} and comparing its mass, width and decay mode to those reported in the Particle Data Group.

From a study of the differential decay rates we obtain the products of hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element f+K(0)∣Vcs∣=0.7172±0.0025±0.0035f_{+}^K(0)|V_{cs}|=0.7172\pm0.0025\pm 0.0035 and f+π(0)∣Vcd∣=0.1435±0.0018±0.0009f_{+}^π(0)|V_{cd}|=0.1435\pm0.0018\pm 0.0009. Combining these products with the values of ∣Vcs(d)∣|V_{cs(d)}| from the SM constraint fit, we extract the hadronic form factors f+K(0)=0.7368±0.0026±0.0036f^K_+(0) = 0.7368\pm0.0026\pm 0.0036 and f+π(0)=0.6372±0.0080±0.0044f^π_+(0) = 0.6372\pm0.0080\pm 0.0044, and their ratio f+π(0)/f+K(0)=0.8649±0.0112±0.0073f_+^π(0)/f_+^{K}(0)=0.8649\pm 0.0112\pm 0.0073. These form factors and their ratio are used to test unquenched Lattice QCD calculations of the form factors and a light cone sum rule (LCSR) calculation of their ratio. The measured value of f+K(π)(0)∣Vcs(d)∣f_+^{K(π)}(0) |V_{cs(d)}| and the lattice QCD value for f+K(π)(0)f^{K(π)}_+(0) are used to extract values of the CKM matrix elements of ∣Vcs∣=0.9601±0.0033±0.0047±0.0239|V_{cs}|=0.9601 \pm 0.0033 \pm 0.0047 \pm 0.0239 and ∣Vcd∣=0.2155±0.0027±0.0014±0.0094|V_{cd}|=0.2155 \pm 0.0027 \pm 0.0014 \pm 0.0094, where the third errors are due to the uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations of the form factors. Using the LCSR value for f+π(0)/f+K(0)f_+^π(0)/f_+^K(0), we determine the ratio ∣Vcd∣/∣Vcs∣=0.238±0.004±0.002±0.011|V_{cd}|/|V_{cs}|=0.238\pm 0.004\pm 0.002\pm 0.011, where the third error is from the uncertainty in the LCSR normalization. In addition, we measure form factor parameters for three different theoretical models that describe the weak hadronic charged currents for these two semileptonic decays. All of these measurements are the most precise to date.

The corresponding mass and width are determined to be M=2200±6(stat.)±5(syst.)MeV/c2M=2200\pm 6 \mathrm{(stat.)} \pm 5\mathrm{(syst.)} \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2} and Γ=104±15(stat.)±15(syst.)Γ=104\pm 15\mathrm{(stat.)}\pm 15\mathrm{(syst.)} MeV, respectively, and the product branching fraction is measured to be B(J/ψ→ηY(2175)\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\toηY(2175), Y(2175)→ϕf0(980)Y(2175)\to ϕf_{0}(980), f0(980)→π+π−)=(1.20±0.14(stat.)±0.37(syst.))×10−4f_{0}(980)\to π^{+}π^{-})= (1.20\pm 0.14\mathrm{(stat.)}\pm 0.37 \mathrm{(syst.)})\times 10^{-4}. The results are consistent within errors with those of previous experiments. We also measure the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕf1(1285)J/ψ\to ϕf_1(1285) with f1(1285)→ηπ+π−f_1(1285)\to ηπ^{+}π^{-} and set upper limits on the branching fractions for J/ψ→ϕη(1405)J/ψ\to ϕη(1405)/ϕX(1835)ϕX(1835)/ϕX(1870)ϕX(1870) with η(1405)η(1405)/X(1835)X(1835)/X(1870)→ηπ+π−X(1870)\to ηπ^{+}π^{-} at the 90\% confidence level.
