High $|t|$ diffractive vector meson production at the EIC

We investigate the prospects of the diffractive production of $J/ψ$ mesons at large momentum transfer $|t|$ at the future Electron Ion Collider in electron-proton collisions. In particular, we focus on the measurements of the rapidity gap size. The model used for the calculations is based on the diffractive exchange of the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov perturbative Pomeron. Calculations for the cross section and the estimates for the rates assuming integrated luminosity of $10 \, \rm fb^{-1}$ are provided. Two experimental strategies were considered. First, measuring the rapidity gap size directly, by observing the activity in the forward part of the central detector, and second by putting a lower limit on the rapidity gap size in the case when the detector cannot measure forward activity. We find that, it is possible to measure at the EIC the dependence of the cross section on rapidity gap interval up to four units in rapidity. This should allow to measure the change of the cross section by a factor 1.6 expected due to the BFKL exchange. This is possible with the present setup of the detector which projects the coverage up to 3.5 units of rapidity. We conclude however, that the extension of the detector up to higher rapidity, for example to 4.5 would be desirable and provide even better lever arm for testing rapidity gap physics at the EIC.

Novel tools and observables for jet physics in heavy-ion collisions

Studies of fully-reconstructed jets in heavy-ion collisions aim at extracting thermodynamical and transport properties of hot and dense QCD matter. Recently, a plethora of new jet substructure observables have been theoretically and experimentally developed that provide novel precise insights on the modifications of the parton radiation pattern induced by a QCD medium. This report, summarizing the main lines of discussion at the 5th Heavy Ion Jet Workshop and CERN TH institute "Novel tools and observables for jet physics in heavy-ion collisions" in 2017, presents a first attempt at outlining a strategy for isolating and identifying the relevant physical processes that are responsible for the observed medium-induced jet modifications. These studies combine theory insights, based on the Lund parton splitting map, with sophisticated jet reconstruction techniques, including grooming and background subtraction algorithms.

Taming of preasymptotic small x evolution within resummation framework

It is well understood that the leading logarithmic approximation for the amplitudes of high energy processes is insufficient and that the next-to-leading logarithmic effects are very large and lead to instability of the solution. The resummation at low $x$, which includes kinematical constraints and other corrections leads to stable result. Using previously established resummation procedure we study in detail the preasymptotic effects which occur in the solution to the resummed BFKL equation when the energy is not very large. We find that in addition to the well known reduction of the intercept, which governs the energy dependence of the gluon Green's function, resummation leads to the delay of the onset of its small $x$ growth. Moreover the gluon Green's function develops a dip or a plateau in wide range of rapidities, which increases for large scales. The preasymptotic region in the gluon Green's function extends to about $8$ units in rapidity for the transverse scales of the order of $30-100 \; {\rm GeV} $. To visualize the expected behavior of physical processes with two equal hard scales we calculate the cross section of the process $γ^{*}+γ^{*}\to X$ to be probed at future very high-energy electron-positron colliders. We find that at $γ^*γ^*$ energies below $100 \; \rm GeV$ the BFKL Pomeron leads to smaller value of the cross section than the Born approximation, and only starts to dominate at energies about $100 \; \rm GeV$. This pattern is significantly different from the one which we find using LL approximation. We also analyze the transverse momentum contributions to the cross section for different virtualities of the photons and find that the dominant contributions to the integral over the transverse momenta comes from lower values than the the external scales in the process under consideration.

Single and double inclusive forward jet production at the LHC at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 and 13 TeV

We provide a description of the transverse momentum spectrum of single inclusive forward jets produced at the LHC, at the center-of-mass energies of 7 and 13 TeV, using the high energy factorization (HEF) framework. We subsequently study double inclusive forward jet production and, in particular, we calculate contributions to azimuthal angle distributions coming from double parton scattering. We also compare our results for double inclusive jet production to those obtained with the Pythia Monte Carlo generator. This comparison confirms that the HEF resummation acts like an initial state parton shower. It also points towards the need to include final state radiation effects in the HEF formalism.

Kinematical constraint effects in the evolution equations based on angular ordering

We study effects of imposing various forms of the kinematical constraints on the full form of the CCFM equation and its non-linear extension. We find that imposing the constraint in its complete form modifies significantly way the shape of gluon density as compared to forms of the constraint used in the numerical calculations and phenomenological applications. In particular the resulting gluon density is suppressed for large values of hard scale related parameter and kT of gluon. This result might be important in description studies of jet correlations at Large Hadron Collider within CCFM approach.

Single bottom quark production in kT-factorisation

We present a study within the kT-factorisation scheme on single bottom quark production at the LHC. In particular, we calculate the rapidity and transverse momentum differential distributions for single bottom quark/anti-quark production. In our setup, the unintegrated gluon density is obtained from the NLx BFKL Green function whereas we included mass effects to the Lx heavy quark jet vertex. We compare our results to the corresponding distributions predicted by the usual collinear factorisation scheme. The latter were produced with Pythia 8.1.

Estimation of saturation and coherence effects in the KGBJS equation - a non-linear CCFM equation

We solve the modified non-linear extension of the CCFM equation - KGBJS equation - numerically for certain initial conditions and compare the resulting gluon Green functions with those obtained from solving the original CCFM equation and the BFKL and BK equations for the same initial conditions. We improve the low transversal momentum behaviour of the KGBJS equation by a small modification.
