Photoproduction of the Theta^+ and its vector and axial-vector structure

We present recent investigations on the vector and axial-vector transitions of the baryon antidecuplet within the framework of the self-consistent SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model, taking into account the 1/N_c rotational and linear m_s corrections. The main contribution to the electric-like transition form factor comes from the wave-function corrections. This is a consequence of the generalized Ademollo-Gatto theorem. It is also found that in general the leading-order contributions are almost canceled by the rotational 1/N_c corrections. The results are summarized as follows: the vector and tensor K^*-N-Theta coupling constants, g_{K^*-N-Theta}=0.74 - 0.87 and f_{K^*-N-Theta}=0.53 - 1.16, respectively, and Gamma_{Theta->KN}=0.71 MeV, based on the result of the K-N-Theta coupling constant g_{K-n-Theta}=0.83. We also show the differential cross sections and beam asymmetries, based on the present results. We also discuss the connection of present results with the original work by Diakonov, Petrov, and Polyakov.

Semileptonic hyperon decays in the self-consistent SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model

We investigate the semileptonic hyperon decays within the framework of the self-consistent SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model ($χ$QSM). We take linear $1/N_c$ rotational as well as linear $m_s$ corrections into account and apply the symmetry conserving quantization. We present the results for the form factors $f_1(Q^2)$, $f_2(Q^2)$ and $g_1(Q^2)$ in addition to the semileptonic decay constants of hyperons. We also have calculated the radii and dipole masses of these form factors for all relevant strangeness-conserving and strangeness-changing transitions.

Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering at small transverse momentum

We study the cross section for one-particle inclusive deep inelastic scattering off the nucleon for low transverse momentum of the detected hadron. We decompose the cross section in terms of structure functions and calculate them at tree level in terms of transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution and fragmentation functions. Our results are complete in the one-photon exchange approximation at leading and first subleading twist accuracy, with both beam and target polarization.

Axial-vector form factors of the nucleon within the chiral quark-soliton model and their strange components

We investigate three different axial-vector form factors of the nucleon, $G_A^{0}$, $G_A^3$, $G_A^8$, within the framework of the SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model, emphasizing their strangeness content. We take into account the rotational $1/N_c$ and linear strange quark ($m_s$) contributions using the symmetry-conserving SU(3) quantization and assuming isospin symmetry. The strange axial-vector form factor is also obtained and they all are discussed in the context of the parity-violating scattering of polarized electrons off the nucleon and its relevance to the strange vector form factors.

Pentaquarks: Review on Models and Solitonic Calculations of Antidecuplet Magnetic Moments

After a quick look at the present status of experiments we shortly review in a first step the ongoing discussions on some of the basic theoretical approaches to pentaquarks: Chiral solitons, Large-$N_c$ considerations, quark models, and lattice gauge approaches. In a second step we apply the chiral quark-soliton approach including linear $m_s$-corrections to the calculation of magnetic moments of the baryons of the anti-decuplet. In this approach the parameters are fixed solely by experimental data for the magnetic moments of the baryon octet and for the masses of the octet, decuplet and of $Θ^{+}$. The magnetic moment of $Θ^{+}$ depends rather strongly on the pion-nucleon sigma term and reads $-1.19 {\rm n.m.}$ to $-0.33 {\rm n.m.}$ for $Σ_{πN} = 45$ and 75 MeV respectively. As a byproduct the strange magnetic moment of the nucleon is obtained with a value of $μ^{(s)}_N =+0.39$ n.m.

Strange form factors in the context of SAMPLE, HAPPEX, and A4 experiments

The strange properties of the nucleon are investigated within the framework of the SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model assuming isospin symmetry and applying the symmetry conserving SU(3) quantization. We present the form factors $G^0_{E,M}(Q^2)$, $G^Z_M(Q^2)$ and the electric and magnetic strange form factors $G^s_{E,M}(Q^2)$ incorporating pion and kaon asymptotics. The results show a fairly good agreement with the recent experimental data from the SAMPLE and HAPPEX collaborations. We also present predictions for future measurements including the A4 experiment at MAMI (Mainz).

Magnetic moments of the SU(3) decuplet baryons in the chiral quark-soliton model

Magnetic moments of baryons are studied within the chiral quark soliton model with special emphasis on the decuplet of baryons. The model is used to identify all symmetry breaking terms proportional to $m_{\rm s}$. Sum rules for the magnetic moments are derived. A ``model-independent'' analysis of the symmetry breaking terms is performed and finally model calculations are presented, which show the importance of the rotational $1/N_{\rm c}$ corrections for cranking of the soliton.

Nucleon Tensor Charges in the SU(2) Chiral Quark--Soliton Model

We investigate the singlet $g_T^{(0)}$ and isovector $g_T^{(3)}$ tensor charges of the nucleon, which are deeply related to the first moment of the leading twist transversity quark distribution $h_1(x)$, in the SU(2) chiral quark-soliton model. With rotational $O(1/N_c)$ corrections taken into account, we obtain $g_T^{(0)}=0.69$ and $g_T^{(3)}=1.45$ at a low normalization point of several hundreds MeV. Within the same approximation and parameters the model yields $g_A^{(0)}=0.36$, $g_A^{(3)}=1.21$ for axial charges and correct octet--decuplet mass splitting. We show how the chiral quark-soliton model interpolates between the nonrelativistic quark model and the Skyrme model.

Spontaneous annihilation of high-density matter in the electroweak theory

In the presence of fermionic matter the topologically distinct vacua of the standard model are metastable and can decay by tunneling through the sphaleron barrier. This process annihilates one fermion per doublet due to the anomalous non-conservation of baryon and lepton currents and is accompanied by a production of gauge and Higgs bosons. We present a numerical method to obtain local bounce solutions which minimize the Euclidean action in the space of all configurations connecting two adjacent topological sectors. These solutions determine the decay rate and the configuration of the fields after the tunneling. We also follow the real time evolution of this configuration and analyze the spectrum of the created bosons. If the matter density exceeds some critical value, the exponentially suppressed tunneling triggers off an avalanche producing an enormous amount of bosons.

Tensor Charges of the Nucleon in the SU(3) Chiral Quark Soliton Model

The tensor charges of the nucleon are calculated in the framework of the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model. The rotational $1/N_c$ and strange quark mass corrections are taken into account up to linear order. We obtain the following numerical values of the tensor charges: $δu=1.12$, $δd=-0.42$, and $δs=-0.008$. In contrast to the axial charges, the tensor charges in our model are closer to those of the nonrelativistic quark model, in particular, the net number of the transversely polarized strange quarks in a transversely polarized nucleon $δs$ is compatible with zero.

Electromagnetic Form Factors of the SU(3) Octet Baryons in the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio Model

The electromagnetic form factors of the SU(3) octet baryons are investigated in the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model (chiral quark-soliton model). The rotational $1/N_c$ and strange quark mass corrections in linear order are taken into account. The electromagnetic charge radii of the nucleon and magnetic moments are also evaluated. It turns out that the model is in a remarkable good agreement with the experimental data.

Strangeness in the Scalar Form Factor of the Nucleon

The scalar form factor of the nucleon and related physical quantities are investigated in the framework of the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio soliton model. We take into account the rotational $1/N_c$ corrections and linear $m_s$ corrections. The strangeness content of the nucleon in the scalar form factor is discussed in detail. In particular, it is found that the $m_s$ corrections play an essential role of reducing the $\langle N | \bar{s} s | N \rangle$ arising from the leading order and rotational $1/N_c$ contributions. We obtain the $σ_{πN} (0)=40.80\;\mbox{MeV}$, $Δσ= σ_{πN} (2m^{2}_π)-σ_{πN} (0) = 18.18\;\mbox{MeV}$ and $\langle r^2\rangle^{S}_{N} = 1.50\;\mbox{fm}^2$. The results are in a remarkable agreement with empirical data analyzed by Gasser, Leutwyler, and Sainio~\cite{gls}.

Loop corrections to the sphaleron transition rate in the minimal standard model

The baryon number dissipation rate due to sphaleron transitions at high temperatures in the minimal standard model is evaluated. We find that this rate can be considerably suppressed by one loop contributions of bosonic and fermionic fluctuations which are particularly important for a small mass of the Higgs boson and a large top quark mass. Fixing the latter to its recently stated value of 174 GeV the complete erasure of the baryon asymmetry is prevented within the framework of the minimal standard model if the Higgs mass is less than about 66 GeV.
