Charm contribution to bulk viscosity

In the range of temperatures reached in future heavy ion collision experiments, hadronic pair annihilations and creations of charm quarks may take place within the lifetime of the plasma. As a result, charm quarks may increase the bulk viscosity affecting the early stages of hydrodynamic expansion. Assuming thermalization, we estimate the charm contribution to bulk viscosity within the same effective kinetic theory framework in which the light parton contribution has been computed previously. The time scale at which this physics becomes relevant is related to the width of the transport peak associated with the trace anomaly correlator, and is found to be < 20 fm/c for T > 600 MeV.

Causal three-point functions and nonlinear second-order hydrodynamic coefficients in AdS/CFT

In the context of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM, we compute the finite 't Hooft coupling $λ$ correction to the non-linear second-order hydrodynamic coefficient $λ_3$ from a Kubo formula based on fully retarded three-point functions using AdS/CFT. Although $λ_3$ is known to vanish in the infinite 't Hooft coupling limit, we find that the finite $λ$ correction is non-zero. We also present a set of Kubo formulae for the non-linear coefficients $λ_{1,2,3}$, which is more convenient than the one that has appeared recently elsewhere.

Kubo Formulae for Second-Order Hydrodynamic Coefficients

At second order in gradients, conformal relativistic hydrodynamics depends on the viscosity eta and on five additional "second-order" hydrodynamical coefficients tauPi, kappa, lambda1, lambda2, and lambda3. We derive Kubo relations for these coefficients, relating them to equilibrium, fully retarded 3-point correlation functions of the stress tensor. We show that the coefficient lambda3 can be evaluated directly by Euclidean means and does not in general vanish.
