Electromagnetic radii of the nucleon in soft-wall holographic QCD

We revisit the electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron in the original-minimal soft-wall holographic QCD, which has only two parameters, i.e., the mass scale $κ$ and the twist parameter of the nucleon $τ$. We first fix $τ=3$ by the hard scattering rule, and extract $κ=0.402~\text{GeV}$ from the world data (including the Mainz A1 data) of the Sachs magnetic form factor of the proton $G_M^p$. We then predict among others, the charge radius of the proton to be $\bf{r_{p}=0.831\,\pm\,0.008\,\,\text{fm}}$, in perfect agreement with the recent charge radius of the proton measured by the PRad collaboration at Jefferson Lab, and in agreement with the muonic hydrogen experiments. Our prediction for the proton elastic form factor ratio $μ_pG_E^p/G_M^p$ is also in very good agreement with the recent high precision Jefferson Lab recoil polarization experiment E08-007 for $Q^2=0.3\,-\,0.6~\text{GeV}^2$, and with the recent high precision Mainz A1 experiment for $Q^2< 0.13~\text{GeV}^2$.

Holographic charm and bottom pentaquarks III: Excitations through photo-production of heavy mesons

We consider the photo-excitation of charm and bottom pentaquarks with the holographic assignments $[\frac 12\frac 12^-]_{S=0,1}$ and $[\frac 12\frac 32^-]_{S=1}$, in the photo-production of heavy vector mesons such as charmonia and bottomonia near threshold. We use a Witten diagram to combine the s-channel photo-excitation of holographic pentaquarks with a massive t-channel graviton or tensor glueball exchange, to extract the scattering amplitude for heavy meson photo-production in the threshold region. The pentaquark signal is too weak to be detected at current electron facilities.

Deep Inelastic Scattering on an Extremal RN-AdS Black Hole II: Holographic Fermi Surface

We consider deep inelastic scattering (DIS) on a dense nucleus described as an extremal RN-AdS black hole with holographic quantum fermions in the bulk. We evaluate the 1-loop fermion contribution to the R-current on the charged black hole, and map it on scattering off a Fermi surface of a dense and large nucleus with fixed atomic number. Near the black hole horizon, the geometry is that of AdS$_2\times $R$^3$ where the fermions develop an emergent Fermi surface with anomalous dimensions. DIS scattering off these fermions yields to anomalous partonic distributions mostly at large-x, as well as modified hard scattering rules. The pertinent R-ratio for the black hole is discussed. For comparison, the structure functions and the R-ratio in the probe or dilute limit with no back-reaction on the geometry, are also derived. We formulate a hybrid holographic model for DIS scattering on heavy and light nuclei, which compares favorably to the existing data for Pb, Au, Fe, C and He over a wide range of parton-x.

Diffractive photoproduction of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ using holographic QCD: gravitational form factors and GPD of gluons in the proton

We present a holographic analysis of diffractive photoproducton of charmonium $J/ψ$ and upsilonium $Υ$ on a proton, considered as a bulk Dirac fermion, for all ranges of $\sqrt{s}$, i.e., from near threshold to very high energy. Using the bulk wave functions of the proton and vector mesons, within holographic QCD, and employing Witten diagrams in the bulk, we compute the diffractive photoproduction amplitude of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$. The holographic amplitude shows elements of the strictures of vector meson dominance (VMD). It is dominated by the exchange of a massive graviton or $2^{++}$ glueball resonances near threshold, and its higher spin-j counterparts that reggeize at higher energies. Both the differential and total cross sections are controlled by the gravitational form factor $A(t)$, and compare well to the recent results reported by the GlueX collaboration near threshold and the world data at large $\sqrt{s}$. The holographic gravitational form factors, including the D-term, which is due to the exchange of massive spin-0 glueballs, are in good agreement with lattice simulations. We use it to extract the holographic pressure and shear forces inside the proton. Finally, using a pertinent integral representation of the holographic gravitational form factor $A(t)$ near threshold, and its Pomeron counterpart way above threshold, we extract the generalized parton distribution (GPD) of gluons inside the proton at different resolutions.

Deep Inelastic Scattering on an Extremal RN-AdS Black Hole

We consider deep inelastic scattering (DIS) on a large nucleus described as an extremal RN-AdS black hole using the holographic principle. Using the R-current correlators we determine the structure functions as a function Bjorken-x, and map it on a finite but large nucleus with fixed atomic number. The R-ratio of the nuclear structure functions exhibit strong shadowing at low-x.

Energy loss of a nonaccelerating quark moving through a strongly coupled N=4 super Yang-Mills vacuum or plasma in strong magnetic field

Using AdS/CFT correspondence, we find that a massless quark moving at the speed of light $v=1$, in arbitrary direction, through a strongly coupled $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills (SYM) vacuum at $T=0$, in the presence of strong magnetic field $\mathcal{B}$, loses its energy at a rate linearly dependent on $\mathcal{B}$, i.e., $\frac{dE}{dt}=-\frac{\sqrtλ}{6π}\mathcal{B}$. We also show that a heavy quark of mass $M\neq 0$ moving at near the speed of light $v^2=v_{*}^2=1-\frac{4π^2 T^2}{\mathcal{B}}\simeq1$, in arbitrary direction, through a strongly coupled $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM plasma at finite temperature $T\neq 0$, in the presence of strong magnetic field $\mathcal{B}\gg T^2$, loses its energy at a rate linearly dependent on $\mathcal{B}$, i.e., $\frac{dE}{dt}=-\frac{\sqrtλ}{6π}\mathcal{B}v_{*}^2\simeq-\frac{\sqrtλ}{6π}\mathcal{B}$. Moreover, we argue that, in the strong magnetic field $\mathcal{B}\gg T^2$ (IR) regime, $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM and adjoint QCD theories (when the adjoint QCD theory has four flavors of Weyl fermions and is at its conformal IR fixed point $λ=λ^*$) have the same microscopic degrees of freedom (i.e., gluons and lowest Landau levels of Weyl fermions) even though they have quite different microscopic degrees of freedom in the UV when we consider higher Landau levels. Therefore, in the strong magnetic field $\mathcal{B}\gg T^2$ (IR) regime, the thermodynamic and hydrodynamic properties of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM and adjoint QCD plasmas, as well as the rates of energy loss of a quark moving through the plasmas, should be the same.

Jet quenching parameter of quark-gluon plasma in strong magnetic field: Perturbative QCD and AdS/CFT correspondence

We compute the jet quenching parameter $\hat q$ of QCD plasma in the presence of strong magnetic field in both weakly and strongly coupled regimes. In weakly coupled regime, we compute $\hat q$ in perturbative QCD at complete leading order (that is, leading log as well as the constant under the log) in QCD coupling constant $α_s$, assuming the hierarchy of scales $α_s eB\ll T^2\ll eB$. We consider two cases of jet orientations with respect to the magnetic field: 1) the case of jet moving parallel to the magnetic field, 2) the case jet moving perpendicular to the magnetic field. In the former case, we find $\hat q\sim α_s^2 (eB)T\log(1/α_s)$, while in the latter we have $\hat q\sim α_s^2 (eB)T\log(T^2/α_seB)$. In both cases, this leading order result arises from the scatterings with thermally populated lowest Landau level quarks. In strongly coupled regime described by AdS/CFT correspondence, we find $\hat q\sim \sqrtλ(eB)T$ or $\hat q\sim\sqrtλ\sqrt{eB}T^2$ in the same hierarchy of $T^2\ll eB$ depending on whether the jet is moving parallel or perpendicular to the magnetic field, respectively, which indicates a universal dependence of $\hat q$ on $(eB)T$ in both regimes for the parallel case, the origin of which should be the transverse density of lowest Landau level states proportional to $eB$. Finally, the asymmetric transverse momentum diffusion in the case of jet moving perpendicular to the magnetic field may give an interesting azimuthal asymmetry of the gluon Bremsstrahlung spectrum in the BDMPS-Z formalism.

Spin Polarized Photons from Axially Charged Plasma at Weak Coupling: Complete Leading Order

In the presence of (approximately conserved) axial charge in the QCD plasma at finite temperature, the emitted photons are spin-aligned, which is a unique P- and CP-odd signature of axial charge in the photon emission observables. We compute this "P-odd photon emission rate" in weak coupling regime at high temperature limit to complete leading order in the QCD coupling constant: the leading log as well as the constant under the log. As in the P-even total emission rate in the literature, the computation of P-odd emission rate at leading order consists of three parts: 1) Compton and Pair Annihilation processes with hard momentum exchange, 2) soft t- and u-channel contributions with Hard Thermal Loop re-summation, 3) Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) re-summation of collinear Bremstrahlung and Pair Annihilation. We present analytical and numerical evaluations of these contributions to our P-odd photon emission rate observable.

Gradient Correction to Photon Emission Rate at Strong Coupling

We compute the correction to the photon emission rate in first order of shear components of fluid velocity gradients, $σ_{ij}$, in near-equilibrium hydrodynamic plasma at strong coupling regime, using the real-time Schwinger-Keldysh formalism in AdS/CFT correspondence. Our result is an integral of an analytic expression. We observe that the gradient correction to the photon emission rate at strong coupling is about 0.3 - 0.4 times of the equilibrium rate in units of $σ_{ij}/T$.

Inverse magnetic catalysis in holographic models of QCD

We study the effect of magnetic field $B$ on the critical temperature $T_{c}$ of the confinement-deconfinement phase transition in hard-wall AdS/QCD, and holographic duals of flavored and unflavored $\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang Mills theories on $\mathbb{R}^3\times \rm S^1$. For all of the holographic models, we find that $T_{c}(B)$ decreases with increasing magnetic field $B\ll T^2$, consistent with the inverse magnetic catalysis recently observed in lattice QCD for $B\lesssim 1~GeV^2$. We also predict that, for large magnetic field $B\gg T^2$, the critical temperature $T_{c}(B)$, eventually, starts to increase with increasing magnetic field $B\gg T^2$ and asymptotes to a constant value.

Thermalization of Quark-Gluon Plasma in Magnetic Field at Strong Coupling

We study thermalization of strongly coupled gauge theory plasma in the presence of magnetic field using the AdS/CFT correspondence. We utilize the falling energy-shell model as a holographic description of gauge theory plasma undergoing thermalization, and find the effect of magnetic field on thermalization time in various space-time dimensions. Our results demonstrate that magnetic field universally hastens thermalization of strongly coupled gauge theory plasma.

Comments on the holographic shear viscosity to entropy density ratio

We revisit the membrane paradigm calculations of the holographic shear viscosity tensor of strongly coupled isotropic plasmas with Einstein gravity dual by emphasizing the fact which was overlooked in the previous literatures that the shear viscosity is a fourth-rank tensor. Using the membrane paradigm we show that depending on whether the holographic shear viscosity tensor to entropy density ratio is η^j_i^j_i/s or η^{jiji}/s or η_{jiji}/s, we can derive three distinct formulae for the holographic shear viscosity tensor to entropy density ratios given explicitly in terms of the background metric g_{ij}. We find that the widely studied η^j_i^j_i/s holographic shear viscosity tensor to entropy density ratio takes the universal value 1/(4π) for isotropic background metric g_{ij} but η^{jiji}/s and η_{jiji}/s holographic shear viscosity tensor to entropy density ratios take non-universal values which depend on the details of the isotropic background metric g_{ij}.

Enhanced thermal photon and dilepton production in strongly coupled N=4 SYM plasma in strong magnetic field

We calculate the DC conductivity tensor of strongly coupled N=4 super-Yang-Mills (SYM) plasma in a presence of a strong external magnetic field B>>T^2 by using its gravity dual and employing both the RG flow approach and membrane paradigm which give the same results. We find that, since the magnetic field B induces anisotropy in the plasma, different components of the DC conductivity tensor have different magnitudes depending on whether its components are in the direction of the magnetic field B. In particular, we find that a component of the DC conductivity tensor in the direction of the magnetic field B increases linearly with B while the other components (which are not in the direction of the magnetic field B) are independent of it. These results are consistent with the lattice computations of the DC conductivity tensor of the QCD plasma in an external magnetic field B. Using the DC conductivity tensor, we calculate the soft or low-frequency thermal photon and dilepton production rates of the strongly coupled N=4 SYM plasma in the presence of the strong external magnetic field B>>T^2. We find that the strong magnetic field B enhances both the thermal photon and dilepton production rates of the strongly coupled N=4 SYM plasma in a qualitative agreement with the experimentally observed enhancements at the heavy-ion collision experiments.

Spin Polarized Photons and Di-leptons from Axially Charged Plasma

Axial charge in a QCD plasma is P- and CP-odd. We propose and study P- and CP-odd observables in photon and di-lepton emissions from an axially charged QCD plasma, which may provide possible experimental evidences of axial charge fluctuation and triangle anomaly in the plasma created in heavy-ion collisions. Our observables measure spin alignments of the emitted photons and di-leptons, and are shown to be related to the imaginary part of chiral magnetic conductivity at finite frequency-momentum, which ultimately arises from the underlying triangle anomaly of the QCD plasma with a finite axial charge density. We present an exemplar computation of these observables in strongly coupled regime using AdS/CFT correspondence.

Holographic RG flow of the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio in strongly coupled anisotropic plasma

We study holographic RG flow of the shear viscosity tensor of anisotropic, strongly coupled N=4 super-Yang-Mills plasma by using its type IIB supergravity dual in anisotropic bulk spacetime. We find that the shear viscosity tensor has three independent components in the anisotropic bulk spacetime away from the boundary, and one of the components has a non-trivial RG flow while the other two have a trivial one. For the component of the shear viscosity tensor with non-trivial RG flow, we derive its RG flow equation, and solve the equation analytically to second order in the anisotropy parameter 'a'. We derive the RG equation using the equation of motion, holographic Wilsonian RG method, and Kubo's formula. All methods give the same result. Solving the equation, we find that the ratio of the component of the shear viscosity tensor to entropy density 'eta/s' flows from above '1/4pi' at the horizon (IR) to below '1/4pi' at the boundary (UV) where it violates the holographic shear viscosity (Kovtun-Son-Starinets) bound and where it agrees with the other longitudinal component.
