The Wiener criterion for fully nonlinear elliptic equations

We study the boundary continuity of solutions to fully nonlinear elliptic equations. We first define a capacity for operators in non-divergence form and derive several capacitary estimates. Secondly, we formulate the Wiener criterion, which characterizes a regular boundary point via potential theory. Our approach utilizes the asymptotic behavior of homogeneous solutions, together with Harnack inequality and the comparison principle.

Harnack inequality for Nonlocal operators on Manifolds with nonnegative curvature

We establish the Krylov Safonov Harnack inequalities and Holder estimates for fully nonlinear nonlocal operators of non-divergence form on Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvatures. To this end, we first define the nonlocal Pucci operators on manifolds that give rise to the concept of non-divergence form operators. We then provide the uniform regularity results for these operators which recover the classical results for second order local operators as limits.

Properties of Generalized Degenerate Parabolic Systems

In this paper, we consider the solution $\bold{u}=\left(u^1,\cdots,u^k\right)$ of the generalized parabolic system \begin{equation*} \left(u^i\right)_t=\nabla\cdot\left(mU^{m-1}\mathcal{A}\left(\nabla u^i,u^i,x,t\right)+\mathcal{B}\left(u^i,x,t\right)\right), \qquad \left(1\leq i\leq k\right) \end{equation*} in the range of exponents $m>\frac{n-2}{n}$ where the diffusion coefficient $U$ depends on the components of the solution $\bold{u}$. Under suitable structure conditions on the vector fields $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$, we first show the uniform $L^{\infty}$ bound of the function $U$ for $t\geq τ>0$ and law of $L^1$ mass conservation of each component $u^i$, $(i=1,\cdots,k)$, with system version of Harnack type inequality. As the last result, we also deal with the local continuity of solution $\bold{u}=\left(u^1,\cdots,u^k\right)$ with the intrinsic scaling. If the ratio between $U$ and components $u^i$, $(i=1,\cdots,k)$, is uniformly bounded above and below, all components of the solution $\bold{u}$ have the same modulus of continuity.

System of Degenerate Parabolic $p$-Laplacian

In this paper, we study the mathematical properties of the solution $\bold{u}=\left(u^1,\cdots,u^k\right)$ to the degenerate parabolic system \begin{equation*} \bold{u}_t=\nabla\cdot\left(\left|\nabla\bold{u}\right|^{p-2}\nabla \bold{u}\right), \qquad \qquad \left(p>2\right). \end{equation*} More precisely, we show the uniqueness and existence of solution $\bold{u}$ and investigate a priori $L^{\infty}$ boundedness of the gradient of the solution. Assuming that the solution decays quickly at infinity, we also prove that the component $u^l$, $\left(1\leq l\leq k\right)$, converges to the function $c^l\mathcal{B}$ in space as $t\to\infty$. Here, the function $\mathcal{B}$ is the fundamental or Barenblatt solution of $p$-Laplacian equation and the constant $c^l$ is determined by the $L^1$-mass of $u^l$. The proof is based on the existence of entropy functional.\\ \indent As an application of the asymptotic large time behaviour, we establish a Harnack type inequality which makes the size of spatial average being controlled by the value of solution at one point.

Generalized Evans--Krylov and Schauder type estimates for nonlocal fully nonlinear equations with rough kernels of variable orders

We establish the generalized Evans--Krylov and Schauder type estimates for nonlocal fully nonlinear elliptic equations with rough kernels of variable orders. In contrast to the fractional Laplacian type operators having a fixed order of differentiability $σ\in (0,2)$, the operators under consideration have variable orders of differentiability. Since the order is not characterized by a single number, we consider a function $φ$ describing the variable orders of differentiability, which is allowed to oscillate between two functions $r^{σ_1}$ and $r^{σ_2}$ for some $0 < σ_1 \leq σ_2 < 2$. By introducing the generalized Hölder spaces, we provide $C^{φψ}$ estimates that generalizes the standard Evans--Krylov and Schauder type $C^{σ+α}$ estimates.

Optimal configuration and symmetry breaking phenomena in the composite membrane problem with fractional Laplacian

We consider the following eigenvalue optimization in the composite membrane problem with fractional Laplacian: given a bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, $α>0$ and $0<A<|Ω|$, find a subset $D\subset Ω$ of area $A$ such that the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of the operator $(-Δ)^s+αχ_D$ is as small as possible. The solution $D$ is called as an optimal configuration for the data $(Ω,α,A)$. Looking at the well-known extension definition for the fractional Laplacian, in the case $s=1/2$ this is essentially the composite membrane problem for which the mass is concentrated at the boundary as one is trying to maximize the Steklov eigenvalue. We prove existence of solutions and study properties of optimal configuration $D$. This is a free boundary problem which could be formulated as a two-sided unstable obstacle problem. Moreover, we show that for some rotationally symmetric domains (thin annuli), the optimal configuration is not rotational symmetric, which implies the non-uniqueness of the optimal configuration $D$. On the other hand, we prove that for a convex domain $Ω$ having reflection symmetries, the optimal configuration possesses the same symmetries, which implies uniqueness of the optimal configuration $D$ in the ball case.

An Elliptic Free Boundary Arising From the Jump of Conductivity

In this paper we consider a quasilinear elliptic PDE, $\text{div} (A(x,u) \nabla u) =0$, where the underlying physical problem gives rise to a jump for the conductivity $A(x,u)$, across a level surface for $u$. Our analysis concerns Lipschitz regularity for the solution $u$, and the regularity of the level surfaces, where $A(x,u)$ has a jump and the solution $u$ does not degenerate. In proving Lipschitz regularity of solutions, we introduce a new and unexpected type of ACF-monotonicity formula with two different operators, that might be of independent interest, and surely can be applied in other related situations. The proof of the monotonicity formula is done through careful computations, and (as a byproduct) a slight generalization to a specific type of variable matrix-valued conductivity is presented.

Global Well-posedness of the Chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes Equations in two dimensions

We consider two dimensional Keller-Segel equations coupled with the Navier-Stokes equations modelled by Tuval et al.[32]. Assuming that the chemotactic sensitivity and oxygen consumption rate are nondecreasing and differentiable, we prove that there is no blow-up in a finite time for solutions with large initial data to chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes equations in two dimensions. In addition, temporal decays of solutions are shown, as time tends to infinity.

Hölder regularity and Uniqueness theorem on weak solutions to the degenerate Keller-Segel system

In this paper, we present local Hölder estimates for the degenerate Keller-Segel system \eqref{eq-cases-aligned-main-problem-of-Keller-Segel-System} below in the range of $m>1$ and $q>1$ before a blow-up of solutions. To deal with difficulties caused by the degeneracy of the operator, we find uniform estimates depending sup-norm of the density function and modified the energy estimates and intrinsic scales considered in Porous Medium Equation. As its application, the uniqueness of weak solution to \eqref{eq-cases-aligned-main-problem-of-Keller-Segel-System} is also showed in the class of Hölder continuous functions by proving $L^1$-contraction in this class.

Multi-D Fast Diffusion Equation via Diffusive Scaling of Generalized Carleman Kinetic Equation

In this paper, we investigate generalized Carleman kinetic equation for n$\ge$2 and prove convergence towards the solution of equation with fast diffusion or porous medium type, $u_t=Δu^m$ ($0\le m\le2$), in its diffusive hydrodynamic limit. Using comparison principle of system combined with fixed speed propagation property of transport equation, we create a new barrier argument for this hyperbolic system. It is crucial to construct explicit local sub and solution of system and this is done by employing an ansatz from second order asymptotic expansion. This allow us prove diffusive limit toward subcritical FDE, which is thought to be difficult with previous method due to the lack of mass conservation. Moreover, we can also prove convergence with growing initial data in slow diffusion range (including $n=1$), which was also unknown before.

$α$-Gauss Curvature flows

In this paper, we study the deformation of the n-dimensional strictly convex hypersurface in $\mathbb R^{n+1}$ whose speed at a point on the hypersurface is proportional to $α$-power of positive part of Gauss Curvature. For $\frac{1}{n}<α\leq 1$, we prove that there exist the strictly convex smooth solutions if the initial surface is strictly convex and smooth and the solution hypersurfaces converge to a point. We also show the asymptotic behavior of the rescaled hypersurfaces, in other words, the rescaled manifold converges to a strictly convex smooth manifold. Moreover, there exists a subsequence whose the limit satisfies a certain equation.

Asymptotic behavior of solutions for nonlinear elliptic problems with the fractional Laplacian

In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of least energy solutions and the existence of multiple bubbling solutions of nonlinear elliptic equations involving the fractional Laplacians and the critical exponents. This work can be seen as a nonlocal analog of the results of Han (Ann. Inst. H. Poincare Anal. Non Lineaire, 1991) and Rey (J. Funct. Anal., 1990).

Parabolic Harnack inequality of viscosity solutions on Riemannian manifolds

We consider viscosity solutions to nonlinear uniformly parabolic equations in nondivergence form on a Riemannian manifold $M$, with the sectional curvature bounded from below by $-κ$ for $κ\geq 0$. In the elliptic case, Wang and Zhang \cite{WZ} recently extended the results of \cite{Ca} to nonlinear elliptic equations in nondivergence form on such $M$, where they obtained the Harnack inequality for classical solutions. We establish the Harnack inequality for nonnegative {\it viscosity solutions} to nonlinear uniformly {\it parabolic equations} in nondivergence form on $M$. The Harnack inequality of nonnegative viscosity solutions to the elliptic equations is also proved.

Qualitative properties of multi-bubble solutions for nonlinear elliptic equations involving critical exponents

The objective of this paper is to obtain qualitative characteristics of multi-bubble solutions to the Lane-Emden-Fowler equations with slightly subcritical exponents given any dimension $n \ge 3$. By examining the linearized problem at each $m$-bubble solution, we provide a number of estimates on the first $(n+2)m$-eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenfunctions. Specifically, we present a new proof of the classical theorem due to Bahri-Li-Rey (Calc. Var. Partial Differential Equations 3 (1995) 67-93) which states that if $n \ge 4$, then the Morse index of a multi-bubble solution is governed by a certain symmetric matrix whose component consists of a combination of Green's function, the Robin function, and their first and second derivatives. Our proof also allows us to handle the intricate case $n = 3$.

Regularity for fully nonlinear integro-differential operators with regularly varying kernels

In this paper, the regularity results for the integro-differential operators of the fractional Laplacian type by Caffarelli and Silvestre \cite{CS1} are extended to those for the integro-differential operators associated with symmetric, regularly varying kernels at zero. In particular, we obtain the uniform Harnack inequality and Hölder estimate of viscosity solutions to the nonlinear integro-differential equations associated with the kernels $K_{σ, β}$ satisfying $$ K_{σ,β}(y)\asymp \frac{ 2-σ}{|y|^{n+σ}}\left( \log\frac{2}{|y|^2}\right)^{β(2-σ)}\quad \mbox{near zero} $$ with respect to $σ\in(0,2)$ close to $2$ (for a given $β\in\mathbb R$), where the regularity estimates do not blow up as the order $ σ\in(0,2)$ tends to $2.$

Geometric Properties of Gelfand's Problems with Parabolic Approach

We consider the asymptotic profiles of the nonlinear parabolic flows $$(e^{u})_{t}= \La u+λe^u$$ to show the geometric properties of the following elliptic nonlinear eigenvalue problems known as a Gelfand's problem: \begin{equation*} \begin{split} \La \vp &+ λe^{\vp}=0, \quad \vp>0\quad\text{in $Ω$}\\ \vp&=0\quad\text{on $Ω$} \end{split} \end{equation*} posed in a strictly convex domain $Ω\subset\re^n$. In this work, we show that there is a strictly increasing function $f(s)$ such that $f^{-1}(\vp(x))$ is convex for $0<λ\leqλ^{\ast}$, i.e., we prove that level set of $\vp$ is convex. Moreover, we also present the boundary condition of $\vp$ which guarantee the $f$-convexity of solution $\vp$.

Geometric property of the Ground State Eigenfunction for Cauchy Process

We consider the asymptotic behavior of nonlinear nonlocal flows $u_t+(-\La)^{1/2}u=0$ to find the geometric property of the solutions in nonlinear eigenvalue problem: (-\La)^{1/2}\vp=λ\vp posed in a strictly convex domain $Ω\subset\R^n$ with $\vp>0$ in $Ω$ and $\vp=0$ on $\R^n\bsΩ$. This is corresponding to an eigenvalue problem for Cauchy process. The concavity of $\vp$ is well known for the dimension $n=1$. In this paper, we will show $\vp^{-\frac{2}{n+1}}$ is convex. Moreover, the eventual power-convexity of the parabolic flows is also proved. In the final section, We extend geometric results to Cauchy problem for the fractional Heat operator.

Hölder Estimates for Singular Non-local Parabolic Equations

In this paper, we establish local Hölder estimate for non-negative solutions of the singular equation \eqref{eq-nlocal-PME-1} below, for $m$ in the range of exponents $(\frac{n-2σ}{n+2σ},1)$. Since we have trouble in finding the local energy inequality of $v$ directly. we use the fact that the operator $(-\La)^σ$ can be thought as the normal derivative of some extension $v^{\ast}$ of $v$ to the upper half space, \cite{CS}, i.e., $v$ is regarded as boundary value of $v^{\ast}$ the solution of some local extension problem. Therefore, the local Hölder estimate of $v$ can be obtained by the same regularity of $v^{\ast}$. In addition, it enables us to describe the behaviour of solution of non-local fast diffusion equation near their extinction time.

Homogenization of fully nonlinear elliptic equations with oscillating dirichlet boundary data

This paper deals with the homogenization of fully nonlinear second order equation with an oscillating Dirichlet boundary data when the operator and boundary data are $\e$-periodic. We will show that the solution $u_\e$ converges to some function $\bar u(x)$ uniformly on every compact subset $K$ of the domain $D$. Moreover, $\bar u$ is a solution to some boundary value problem. For this result, we assume that the boundary of the domain has no (rational) flat spots and the ratio of elliptic constants $Λ/ λ$ is sufficiently large.

Viscosity method for Homogenization of Parabolic Nonlinear Equations in Perforated Domains

In this paper, we develop a viscosity method for Homogenization of Nonlinear Parabolic Equations constrained by highly oscillating obstacles or Dirichlet data in perforated domains. The Dirichlet data on the perforated domain can be considered as a constraint or an obstacle. Homogenization of nonlinear eigen value problems has been also considered to control the degeneracy of the Porous medium equation in perforated domains. For the simplicity, we consider obstacles that consist of cylindrical columns distributed periodically and perforated domains with punctured balls. If the decay rate of the capac- ity of columns or the capacity of punctured ball is too high or too small, the limit of uǫ will converge to trivial solutions. The critical decay rates of having nontrivial solution are obtained with the construction of barriers. We also show the limit of uǫ satisfies a homogenized equation with a term showing the effect of the highly oscillating obstacles or perforated domain in viscosity sense.

Asymptotic Behavior in Degenerate Parabolic Fully Nonlinear equations and its application to Elliptic Eigenvalue Problems

We study the asymptotic behavior of the nonlinear parabolic flows $u_{t}=F(D^2 u^m)$ when $t\ra \infty$ for $m\geq 1$, and the geometric properties for solutions of the following elliptic nonlinear eigenvalue problems: F(D^2 \vp) &+ μ\vp^{p}=0, \quad \vp>0\quad\text{in $Ω$} \vp&=0\quad\text{on $\pΩ$} posed in a (strictly) convex and smooth domain $Ω\subset\re^n$ for $0< p \leq 1,$ where $F(\cdot)$ is uniformly elliptic, positively homogeneous of order one and concave. We establish that $\log (\vp)$ is concave in the case $p=1$ and that the function $\vp^{\frac{1-p}{2}}$ is concave for $0<p<1.$

Fully Degenerate Monge Ampére Equations

In this paper, we consider the following nonlinear eigenvalue problem for the Monge-Ampére equation: find a non-negative weakly convex classical solution $f$ satisfying {equation*} {cases} \det D^2 f=f^p \quad &\text{in $Ω$} f=\vp \quad &text{on $\partialΩ$} {cases} {equation*} for a strictly convex smooth domain $Ω\subset\R^2$ and $0<p<2$. When $\{f=0\}$ contains a convex domain, we find a classical solution which is smooth on $\bar{\{f>0\}}$ and whose free boundary $\partial\{f=0\}$ is also smooth.

Harnack inequality for nondivergent parabolic operators on Riemannian manifolds

We consider second-order linear parabolic operators in non-divergence form that are intrinsically defined on Riemannian manifolds. In the elliptic case, Cabré proved a global Krylov-Safonov Harnack inequality under the assumption that the sectional curvature of the underlying manifold is nonnegative. Later, Kim improved Cabré's result by replacing the curvature condition by a certain condition on the distance function. Assuming essentially the same condition introduced by Kim, we establish Krylov-Safonov Harnack inequality for nonnegative solutions of the non-divergent parabolic equation. This, in particular, gives a new proof for Li-Yau Harnack inequality for positive solutions to the heat equation in a manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature.

Highly Oscillating Thin Obstacles

The focus of this paper is on a thin obstacle problem where the obstacle is defined on the intersection between a hyper-plane $Γ$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and a periodic perforation $\mathcal{T}_\varepsilon$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$, depending on a small parameter $\varepsilon>0$. As $\varepsilon\to 0$, it is crucial to estimate the frequency of intersections and to determine this number locally. This is done using strong tools from uniform distribution. By employing classical estimates for the discrepancy of sequences of type $\{kα\}_{k=1}^\infty$, $α\in\R$, we are able to extract rather precise information about the set $Γ\cap\mathcal{T}_\varepsilon$. As $\varepsilon\to0$, we determine the limit $u$ of the solution $u_\varepsilon$ to the obstacle problem in the perforated domain, in terms of a limit equation it solves. We obtain the typical "strange term" behaviour for the limit problem, but with a different constant taking into account the contribution of all different intersections, that we call the averaged capacity. Our result depends on the normal direction of the plane, but holds for a.e. normal on the unit sphere in $\R^n$.

Regularity results for fully nonlinear integro-differential operators with nonsymmetric positive kernels

In this paper, we consider fully nonlinear integro-differential equations with possibly nonsymmetric kernels. We are able to find different versions of Alexandroff-Backelman-Pucci estimate corresponding to the full class $\cS^{\fL_0}$ of uniformly elliptic nonlinear equations with $1<σ<2$ (subcritical case) and to their subclass $\cS^{\fL_0}_η$ with $0<σ\leq 1$. We show that $\cS^{\fL_0}_η$ still includes a large number of nonlinear operators as well as linear operators. And we show a Harnack inequality, Hölder regularity, and $C^{1,α}$-regularity of the solutions by obtaining decay estimates of their level sets in each cases.

We are able to find parabolic versions of Alexandrov-Backelman-Pucci estimate with 0<σ<2. And we show a Harnack inequality, Hölder regularity, and C^{1,α}-regularity of the solutions by obtaining decay estimates of their level sets.

The viscosity Method for the Homogenization of soft inclusions

In this paper, we consider periodic soft inclusions $T_ε$ with periodicity $ε$, where the solution, $u_ε$, satisfies semi-linear elliptic equations of non-divergence in $Ω_ε=Ω\setminus \bar{T}_ε$ with a Neumann data on $\partial T^{\mathfrak a}$ . The difficulty lies in the non-divergence structure of the operator where the standard energy method based on the divergence theorem can not be applied. The main object is developing a viscosity method to find the homogenized equation satisfied by the limit of $u_ε$, called as $u$, as $ε$ approaches to zero. We introduce the concept of a compatibility condition between the equation and the Neumann condition on the boundary for the existence of uniformly bounded periodic first correctors. The concept of second corrector has been developed to show the limit, $u$, is the viscosity solution of a homogenized equation.

α-Gauss Curvature flows with flat sides

In this paper, we study the deformation of the 2 dimensional convex surfaces in $\R^{3}$ whose speed at a point on the surface is proportional to $α$-power of positive part of Gauss Curvature. First, for 1/2<α\leq 1$, we show that there is smooth solution if the initial data is smooth and strictly convex and that there is a viscosity solution with $C^{1,1}$-estimate before the collapsing time if the initial surface is only convex. Moreover, we show that there is a waiting time effect which means the flat spot of the convex surface will persist for a while. We also show the interface between the flat side and the strictly convex side of the surface remains smooth on $0 < t < T_0$ under certain necessary regularity and non-degeneracy initial conditions, where $ T_0$ is the vanishing time of the flat side.

Regularity results for fully nonlinear integro-differential operators with nonsymmetric positive kernels : Subcritical Case

We introduce a new class of fully nonlinear integro-differential operators with possible nonsymmetric kernels, which includes the ones that arise from stochastic control problems with purely jump Lèvy processes. If the index of the operator $σ$ is in $ (1,2)$ (subcritical case), then we obtain a comparison principle, a nonlocal version of the Alexandroff-Backelman-Pucci estimate, a Harnack inequality, a Hölder regularity, and an interior $\rm C^{1,α}$-regularity for fully nonlinear integro-differential equations associated with such a class. Moreover, our estimates remain uniform as the index $σ$ of the operator is getting close to two, so that they can be regarded as a natural extension of regularity results for elliptic partial differential equations.
