RKKY interactions of CeB6 based on effective Wannier model

We examine the RKKY interactions of CeB$_6$ between multipole moments based on the effective Wannier model obtained from the bandstructure calculation including 14 Ce-$f$ orbitals and 60 conduction orbitals of Ce-$d,s$ and B-$p,s$. By using the $f$-$c$ mixing matrix elements of the Wannier model together with the conduction band dispersion, the multipole couplings with the RKKY oscillation are obtained for the active moments in $Γ_{8}$ subspace. Both of the $Γ_{5g}$ quadrupole $O_{xy}$ and the $Γ_{2u}$ octupole $T_{xyz}$ couplings are largely enhanced with $\bm{q}=(π,π,π)$ which naturally explains the antiferro-quadrupolar phase of the phase II, and are also enhanced with $\bm{q}=(0,0,0)$ corresponding to the elastic softening of $C_{44}$. Also the couplings of the $Γ_{5u}$ octupole $T_{z}^β$ is quite large for $\bm{q}=(0,0,π)$ which is related to the antiferro-octupolar ordering of a possible candidate for the phase IV of Ce$_{x}$La$_{1-x}$B$_6$.

Lattice Distortion to Stabilize the Spin-Peierls State in CeRu2Al10

We propose a relevant lattice distortion to stabilize the spin-Peierls state in CeRu2Al10, compatible with the 27Al-NQR spectra and the neutron diffraction patterns on the assumption that Al atoms at Al(1) to Al(4) sites displace toward their respective neighboring Ce ions below T0 = 27 K, leaving Ce, Ru, and Al at Al(5) immobile. Due to a resulting regular lattice distortion the assembly of one-dimensional spin-Peierls order on each zigzag chain along the c-axis predicted by the author becomes a three-dimensional order with Q = (0, 0, 1), where bonds connecting dimerized pair of Ce ions form an antiferro ordering in a body-centered structure.

Theoretical study on the variation of ordering vector in Ce(Pd$_{1-x}$M$_x$)$_2$Al$_3$ (M$=${Ag, Cu})

In heavy-fermion compounds, the crossover from the localized to itinerant heavy-fermion state is observed with lowering temperature, frequently accompanied by magnetism. Ordering vectors of magnetism often vary with applying pressure or with substituting atoms. In Ce(Pd$_{1-x}$M$_x$)$_2$Al$_3$ with $\mathrm{M}=\mathrm{Ag,Cu}$, the $(0,0,1/2)$-antiferromagnetic (AF), ferromagnetic (F), and another AF orders are observed for $x<0.05$, $0.1<x<0.4$, and $0.5<x$, respectively. This change in the ordering vector is considered to be caused by the change in the conduction-band structures. Using the anisotropic RKKY interaction model reflecting the spacial anisotropic distribution of the $f$ states and also the conduction-band structures, % obtained by the band calculation, we study the change in the ordering vector of Ce(Pd$_{1-x}$M$_x$)$_2$Al$_3$ with $x$ theoretically. As a result, the variation of the ordering vector is explained by treating the substitution of atoms as the conduction-electron doping, and the ordering vector of the AF state for $x>0.5$ is considered to be $(1/2,0,1/2)$.
