Heat-Treatment-Induced Switching of Magnetic States in the Doped Polar Semiconductor Ge$_{1-x}$Mn$_x$Te

Cross-control of a material property - manipulation of a physical quantity (e.g., magnetisation) by a nonconjugate field (e.g., electrical field) - is a challenge in fundamental science and also important for technological device applications. It has been demonstrated that magnetic properties can be controlled by electrical and optical stimuli in various magnets. Here we find that heat-treatment allows the control over two competing magnetic phases in the Mn-doped polar semiconductor GeTe. The onset temperatures $T_{\rm c}$ of ferromagnetism vary at low Mn concentrations by a factor of five to six with a maximum $T_{\rm c} \approx 180$ K, depending on the selected phase. Analyses in terms of synchrotron x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy indicate a possible segregation of the Mn ions, which is responsible for the high-$T_{\rm c}$ phase. More importantly, we demonstrate that the two states can be switched back and forth repeatedly from either phase by changing the heat-treatment of a sample, thereby confirming magnetic phase-change- memory functionality.

Laser frequency locking with 46 GHz offset using an electro-optic modulator for magneto-optical trapping of francium atoms

We demonstrated a frequency offset locking between two laser sources using a waveguide-type electro-optic modulator (EOM) with 10th-order sidebands for magneto-optical trapping of Fr atoms. The frequency locking error signal was successfully obtained by performing delayed self-homodyne detection of the beat signal between the repumping frequency and the 10th-order sideband component of the trapping light. Sweeping the trapping-light and repumping-light frequencies with keeping its frequency difference of 46 GHz was confirmed over 1 GHz by monitoring the Doppler absorption profile of I2. This technique enables us to search for a resonance frequency of magneto-optical trapping of Fr.

Full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^- γ$ at the ILC with GRACE-Loop

By using the GRACE-Loop system, we calculate the full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow e^+e^- γ$, which is important for future investigations at the International Linear Collider (ILC). With the GRACE-Loop system, the calculations are checked numerically by three consistency tests: ultraviolet finiteness, infrared finiteness, and gauge-parameter independence. The results show good numerical stability when quadruple precision is used. In the phenomenological results, we find that the electroweak corrections to the total cross section range from $\sim -4\%$ to $\sim -21\%$ when $\sqrt{s}$ varies from $250$ GeV to $1$ TeV. The corrections also significantly affect the differential cross sections, which are a function of the invariant masses and angles and the final-particle energies. Such corrections will play an important role for the high-precision program at the ILC.

Full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $t \bar{t} γ$ and $e^-e^+γ$ productions at ILC with GRACE-Loop

The full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $t \bar{t} γ$ and $e^-e^+γ$ productions at the International Linear Collider (ILC) are presented in this paper. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-Loop system. In the physical results, we discuss on the cross section, electroweak corrections, and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) which are the function of the center-of-mass energy.

Decay and Frequency Shift of Inter and Intravalley Phonons in Graphene -Dirac Cone Migration-

By considering analytical expressions for the self-energies of intervalley and intravalley phonons in graphene, we describe the behavior of D, 2D, and D$'$ Raman bands with changes in doping ($μ$) and light excitation energy ($E_L$). Comparing the self-energy with the observed $μ$ dependence of the 2D bandwidth, we estimate the wavevector $q$ of the constituent intervalley phonon at $\hbar vq\simeq E_L/1.6$ ($v$ is electron's Fermi velocity) and conclude that the self-energy makes a major contribution (60%) to the dispersive behavior of the D and 2D bands. The estimation of $q$ is based on an image of shifted Dirac cones in which the resonance decay of a phonon satisfying $q > ω/v$ ($ω$ is the phonon frequency) into an electron-hole pair is suppressed when $μ< (vq-ω)/2$. We highlight the fact that the decay of an intervalley (and intravalley longitudinal optical) phonon with $q=ω/v$ is strongly suppressed by electron-phonon coupling at an arbitrary $μ$. This feature is in contrast to the divergent behavior of an intravalley transverse optical phonon, which bears a close similarity to the polarization function relevant to plasmons.

Full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t} γ$ with GRACE-Loop

We present the full $\mathcal{O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t} γ$ at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The computation is performed with the help of the GRACE-Loop system. We present the total cross-section and the top quark forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{FB}$) as a function of the center-of-mass energy and compare them with the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \bar{t}$. We find that the value of $A_{FB}$ in $t \bar{t} γ$ production is larger than $A_{FB}$ in $t\bar{t}$ production. It is an important result for the measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the ILC. Applying a structure function method, we also subtract the QED correction to gain the genuine weak correction in both the $α$ scheme and the $G_μ$ scheme ($δ_{W}^{G_μ}$). We obtain numerical values for $δ_{W}^{G_μ}$ which are changing from 2% to -24% when we vary the center-of-mass energy from 360 GeV to 1 TeV.

Numerical approach to multi-loop integrals

For the calculation of multi-loop Feynman integrals, a novel numerical method, the Direct Computation Method (DCM) is developed. It is a combination of a numerical integration and a series extrapolation. In principle, DCM can handle diagrams of arbitrary internal masses and external momenta, and can calculate integrals with general numerator function. As an example of the performance of DCM, a numerical computation of two-loop box diagrams is presented. Further discussion is given on the choice of control parameters in DCM. This method will be an indispensable tool for the higher order radiative correction when it is tested for a wider class of physical parameters and the separation of divergence is done automatically.

Numerical Computation of Two-loop Box Diagrams with Masses

A new approach is presented to evaluate multi-loop integrals, which appear in the calculation of cross-sections in high-energy physics. It relies on a fully numerical method and is applicable to a wide class of integrals with various mass configurations. As an example, the computation of two-loop planar and non-planar box diagrams is shown. The results are confirmed by comparisons with other techniques, including the reduction method, and by a consistency check using the dispersion relation.

Pair-production and Three-body Decay of the Lighter Stop at the ILC in One-loop Order in the MSSM

We have been developing a program package called GRACE/SUSY-loop which automatically calculates the MSSM amplitudes in one-loop order. We present numerical results of calculations for pair-production and three-body decay of the lighter stop ($\widetilde{t}_1$) at the International Linear Collider (ILC) using GRACE/SUSY-loop. Since the distributions of missing transverse energy (MET) depend on mass spectrum of SUSY particles, we consider two scenarios on three-body decay of $\widetilde{t}_1$. In these scenarios, both QCD and EW corrections have positive sign for decay widths and cross sections.

Pseudospin for Raman D Band in Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons

By analytically constructing the matrix elements of an electron-phonon interaction for the $D$ band in the Raman spectra of armchair graphene nanoribbons, we show that pseudospin and momentum conservation result in (i) a $D$ band consisting of two components, (ii) a $D$ band Raman intensity that is enhanced only when the polarizations of the incident and scattered light are parallel to the armchair edge, and (iii) the $D$ band softening/hardening behavior caused by the Kohn anomaly effect is correlated with that of the $G$ band. Several experiments are mentioned that are relevant to these results. It is also suggested that pseudospin is independent of the boundary condition for the phonon mode, while momentum conservation depends on it.

The formation of strong electric fields and volumetric charges in the Solar atmosphere

The processes occurring in the solar atmosphere are diverse and depend on many important factors. For example, from magnetic fields, their sudden changes, from emissions of substance from the depths of the Sun, distribution of shock waves and plasma jets, etc. The paper describes the model of formation of the charged volumes of gas in solar atmosphere, which is called solar "storm clouds" by analogy with terrestrial storm clouds. The model will be based on the theory ionization equilibrium and the Saha equation.

Magnetic Frustration in a Mn Honeycomb Lattice Induced by Mn-O-O-Mn Pathways

We investigated the electronic structure of layered Mn oxide Bi3Mn4O12(NO3) with a Mn honeycomb lattice by x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The valence of Mn was determined to be 4+ with a small charge-transfer energy. We estimated the values of superexchange interactions up to the fourth nearest neighbors (J1, J2, J3, and J4) by unrestricted Hartree-Fock calculations and a perturbation method. We found that the absolute values of J1 through J4 are similar with positive (antiferromagnetic) J1 and J4, and negative (ferromagnetic) J2 and J3, due to Mn-O-O-Mn pathways activated by the smallness of charge-transfer energy. The negative J3 provides magnetic frustration in the honeycomb lattice to prevent long-range ordering.

Numerical Approach to Calculation of Feynman Loop Integrals

In this paper, we describe a numerical approach to evaluate Feynman loop integrals. In this approach the key technique is a combination of a numerical integration method and a numerical extrapolation method. Since the computation is carried out in a fully numerical way, our approach is applicable to one-, two- and multi-loop diagrams. Without any analytic treatment it can compute diagrams with not only real masses but also complex masses for the internal particles. As concrete examples we present numerical results of a scalar one-loop box integral with complex masses and two-loop planar and non-planar box integrals with masses. We discuss the quality of our numerical computation by comparisons with other methods and also propose a self consistency check.

Polarization Dependence of Optical Transitions in Graphene Nanoribbons

The universality of $k$-dependent electron-photon and electron-phonon matrix elements is discussed for graphene nanoribbons and carbon nanotubes. An electron undergoes a change in wavevector in the direction of broken translational symmetry, depending on the light polarization direction. We suggest that this phenomenon originates from a microscopic feature of chirality.

Theory of optical transitions in graphene nanoribbons

Matrix elements of electron-light interactions for armchair and zigzag graphene nanoribbons are constructed analytically using a tight-binding model. The changes in wavenumber ($Δn$) and pseudospin are the necessary elements if we are to understand the optical selection rule. It is shown that an incident light with a specific polarization and energy, induces an indirect transition ($Δn=\pm1$), which results in a characteristic peak in absorption spectra. Such a peak provides evidence that the electron standing wave is formed by multiple reflections at both edges of a ribbon. It is also suggested that the absorption of low-energy light is sensitive to the position of the Fermi energy, direction of light polarization, and irregularities in the edge. The effect of depolarization on the absorption peak is briefly discussed.

Systematic study of 1-loop correction on sparticle decay widths using GRACE/SUSY-loop

The 1-loop corrected decay widths of sparticles (charginos, neutralinos, gluino and sfermions) in the framework of the MSSM are calculated systematically using GRACE/SUSY-loop, which is the program package for the automatic calculation of the MSSM amplitudes in the 1-loop order. We present the renormalization scheme used in our system and show some numerical results of decay widths of sfermions and gluino using the SPS1a' parameter set and other SUSY parameter sets.

Precise measurement of HFS of positronium

The ground state hyperfine splitting in positronium, $Δ_{\mathrm{HFS}}$, is sensitive to high order corrections of QED. A new calculation up to $O(α^3)$ has revealed a $3.9 σ$ discrepancy between the QED prediction and the experimental results. This discrepancy might either be due to systematic problems in the previous experiments or to contributions beyond the Standard Model. We propose an experiment to measure $Δ_{\mathrm{HFS}}$ employing new methods designed to remedy the systematic errors which may have affected the previous experiments. Our experiment will provide an independent check of the discrepancy. The measurement is in progress and a preliminary result of $Δ_{\mathrm{HFS}} = 203.399 \pm 0.029 \mathrm{GHz} (143 \mathrm{ppm})$ has been obtained. A measurement with a precision of O(1) ppm is expected within a few years.

The GL_2 main conjecture for elliptic curves without complex multiplication

The main conjectures of Iwasawa theory provide the only general method known at present for studying the mysterious relationship between purely arithmetic problems and the special values of complex L-functions, typified by the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer and its generalizations. Our goal in the present paper is to develop algebraic techniques which enable us to formulate a precise version of such a main conjecture for motives over a large class of p-adic Lie extensions of number fields. The paper ends by formulating and briefly discussing the main conjecture for an elliptic curve E over the rationals Q over the field generated by the coordinates of its p-power division points, where p is a prime greater than 3 of good ordinary reduction for E.

Full order alpha electroweak corrections to double Higgs-strahlung at the linear collider

We present the full order alpha electroweak radiative corrections to the double Higgs-strahlung process e+e- --> ZHH. The computation is performed with the help of GRACE-loop. After subtraction of the initial state QED radiative corrections, we find that the genuine weak corrections in the $α$-scheme are small for Higgs masses and energies where this cross section is largest and is most likely to be studied. These corrections decrease with increasing energies attaining about $\sim -10%$ at $\sqrt{s}=1.5$TeV. The full order alpha correction on the other hand is quite large at threshold but small at energies around the peak. We also study changes in the shape of the invariant mass of the Higgs pair which has been shown to be a good discriminating variable for the measurement of the triple Higgs vertex in this reaction.

QCD event generators with next-to-leading order matrix-elements and parton showers

A new method to construct event-generators based on next-to-leading order QCD matrix-elements and leading-logarithmic parton showers is proposed. Matrix elements of loop diagram as well as those of a tree level can be generated using an automatic system. A soft/collinear singularity is treated using a leading-log subtraction method. Higher order re-summation of the soft/collinear correction by the parton shower method is combined with the NLO matrix-element without any double-counting in this method. An example of the event generator for Drell-Yan process is given for demonstrating a validity of this method.

Three-body Coulomb breakup of 11Li in the complex scaling method

Coulomb breakup strengths of 11Li into a three-body 9Li+n+n system are studied in the complex scaling method. We decompose the transition strengths into the contributions from three-body resonances, two-body ``10Li+n'' and three-body ``9Li+n+n'' continuum states. In the calculated results, we cannot find the dipole resonances with a sharp decay width in 11Li. There is a low energy enhancement in the breakup strength, which is produced by both the two- and three-body continuum states. The enhancement given by the three-body continuum states is found to have a strong connection to the halo structure of 11Li. The calculated breakup strength distribution is compared with the experimental data from MSU, RIKEN and GSI.

Full one-loop electroweak radiative corrections to single Higgs production in e+ e-

We present the full ${\cal O}(α)$ electroweak radiative corrections to single Higgs production in \epemt. This takes into account the full one-loop corrections as well as the effects of hard photon radiation. We include both the fusion and Higgs-strahlung processes. The computation is performed with the help of {\tt GRACE-loop} where we have implemented a generalised non-linear gauge fixing condition. The latter includes 5 gauge parameters that can be used for checks on our results. Besides the UV, IR finiteness and gauge parameter independence checks it proves also powerful to test our implementation of the 5-point function. We find that for a 500GeV machine and a light Higgs of mass 150GeV, the total ${\cal O}(α)$ correction is small when the results are expressed in terms of $α_{\rm QED}$. The total correction decreases slightly for higher energies. For moderate centre of mass energies the total ${\cal O}(α)$ decreases as the Higgs mass increases, reaching -10% for $M_H=350$GeV and $\sqrt{s}=500$GeV. In order to quantify the genuine weak corrections we have subtracted the universal virtual and bremsstrahlung correction from the full ${\cal O}(α)$. We find, for $M_H=150$GeV, a weak correction slowly decreasing from -2% to -4% as the energy increases from $\sqrt{s}=300$GeV to $\sqrt{s}=1$TeV after expressing the tree-level results in terms of $G_μ$

Norm kernels and the closeness relation for Pauli-allowed basis functions

The norm kernel of the generator-coordinate method is shown to be a symmetric kernel of an integral equation with eigenfunctions defined in the Fock--Bargmann space and forming a complete set of orthonormalized states (classified with the use of SU(3) symmetry indices) satisfying the Pauli exclusion principle. This interpretation allows to develop a method which, even in the presence of the SU(3) degeneracy, provides for a consistent way to introduce additional quantum numbers for the classification of the basis states. In order to set the asymptotic boundary conditions for the expansion coefficients of a wave function in the SU(3) basis, a complementary basis of functions with partial angular momenta as good quantum numbers is needed. Norm kernels of the binary systems 6He+p, 6He+n, 6He+4He, and 8He+4He are considered in detail.

Spectrum of 10Be in the basis of the leading representation of the SU(3) group

A realization of the approximation of the SU(3) leading representation with the microscopic Hamiltonian and a nucleon-nucleon interaction is presented in detail. An effective Hamiltonian reproducing results of calculations with some known potentials is constructed. It is shown that its structure is quite similar to that of the triaxial rotator, and the wave functions in the Elliott's scheme are linear combinations of Wigner's D-functions although they should be properly normalized.

susy23 v2.0: an Event Generator for Supersymmetric Processes at $e^+e^-$ Colliders

\susy23 is a Monte-Carlo package for generating supersymmetric (SUSY) processes at $e^+e^-$ colliders. Twenty-three types of SUSY processes with 2 or 3 final state particles at tree level are included in version 2.0. {\susy23} addresses event simulation requirements at $e^+e^-$ colliders such as LEP. Matrix elements are generated by GRACE with the helicity amplitude method for processes involving massive fermions. The phase space integration of the matrix element gives the total and differential cross sections, then unweighted events are generated. Sparticle widths and decay branching ratios are calculated. Each final state particle may then decay according to these probabilities. Spin correlations are taken into account in the decays of sparticles. Corrections of initial state radiation (ISR) are implemented in two ways, one is based on the electron structure function formalism and the second uses the parton shower algorithm called QEDPS. Parton shower and hadronization of the final quarks are performed through an interface to JETSET.

grc4f v1.0: a Four-fermion Event Generator for e+e- Collisions

grc4f is a Monte-Carlo package for generating e+e- to 4-fermion processes in the standard model. All of the 76 LEP-2 allowed fermionic final state processes evaluated at tree level are included in version 1.0. grc4f addresses event simulation requirements at e+e- colliders such as LEP and up-coming linear colliders. Most of the attractive aspects of grc4f come from its link to the GRACE system: a Feynman diagram automatic computation system. The GRACE system has been used to produce the computational code for all final states, giving a higher level of confidence in the calculation correctness. Based on the helicity amplitude calculation technique, all fermion masses can be kept finite and helicity information can be propagated down to the final state particles. The phase space integration of the matrix element gives the total and differential cross sections, then unweighted events are Generated. Initial state radiation (ISR) corrections are implemented in two ways, one is based on the electron structure function formalism and the second uses the parton shower algorithm called QEDPS. The latter can also be applied for final state radiation (FSR) though the interference with the ISR is not yet taken into account. Parton shower and hadronization of the final quarks are performed through an interface to JETSET. Coulomb correction between two intermediate W's, anomalous coupling as well as gluon contributions in the hadronic processes are also included.
