NNLO anomalous dimension matrix for twist-two flavor-singlet operators

Conformal symmetry of QCD is restored at the Wilson-Fisher critical point in noninteger $4-2ε$ space-time dimensions. Correlation functions of multiplicatively renormalizable operators with different anomalous dimensions at the critical point vanish identically. We show that this property allows one to calculate off-diagonal parts of the anomalous dimension matrices for leading-twist operators from a set of two-point correlation functions of gauge-invariant operators which can be evaluated using standard computer algebra techniques. As an illustration, we present the results for the NNLO anomalous dimension matrix for flavor-singlet QCD operators for spin $N\le 8$.

Operator product expansion for the non-local gluon condensate

We consider the short-distance expansion of the product of two gluon field strength tensors connected by a straight-line-ordered Wilson line. The vacuum expectation value of this nonlocal operator is a common object in studies of the QCD vacuum structure, whereas its nucleon expectation value is known as the gluon quasi-parton distribution and is receiving a lot of attention as a tool to extract gluon distribution functions from lattice calculations. Extending our previous study, we calculate the three-loop coefficient functions of the scalar operators in the operator product expansion up to dimension four. As a by-product, the three-loop anomalous dimension of the nonlocal two-gluon operator is obtained as well.

Transcendental structure of multiloop massless correlators and anomalous dimensions

We give a short account of recent advances in our understanding of the $π$-dependent terms in massless (Euclidean) 2-point functions as well as in generic anomalous dimensions (ADs) and $β$-functions. We extend the considerations of \cite{Baikov:2018wgs} by two more loops, that is for the case of 6- and 7-loop correlators and 7- and 8-loop renormalization group (RG) functions. Our predictions for the ($π$-dependent terms) of the 7-loop RG functions for the case of the $O(n)$ $ϕ^4$ theory are in full agreement with the recent results from \cite{Schnetz:2016fhy}. All available 7- and 8-loop results for QCD and the scalar $O(n)$ $φ^4$ theory obtained within the large $N_f$ approach to the quantum field theory (see, e.g. \cite{Gracey:2018ame}) are also in full agreement with our results.

Six loop analytical calculation of the field anomalous dimension and the critical exponent $η$ in $O(n)$-symmetric $φ^4$ model

We report on a completely analytical calculation of the field anomalous dimension $γ_φ$ and the critical exponent $η$ for the $O(n)$-symmetric $φ^4$ model at the record six loop level. We successfully compare our result for $γ_φ$ with $n=1$ with the predictions based on the method of the Borel resummation combined with a conformal mapping. Predictions for seven loop contribution to the field anomalous dimensions are given.

Charm and Bottom Quark Masses: an Update

Using new four-loop results for the heavy quark vacuum polarization and new data for bottom quark production in electron-positron annihilation, an update on the determination of charm- and bottom-quark masses through sum rules has been performed. The previous result for the charm-quark mass, $m_c(3 {\rm GeV})= 0.986(13) {\rm GeV}$, based on the lowest moment, is supported by the new results from higher moments which lead to consistent values with comparable errors. The new value for the bottom quark, $m_b(10 {\rm GeV})= 3.610(16) {\rm GeV}$, corresponding to $m_b(m_b)= 4.163(16) {\rm GeV}$, makes use both of the new data and the new perturbative results and is consistent with the earlier determination.

High-precision $α_s$ measurements from LHC to FCC-ee

This document provides a writeup of all contributions to the workshop on "High precision measurements of $α_s$: From LHC to FCC-ee" held at CERN, Oct. 12--13, 2015. The workshop explored in depth the latest developments on the determination of the QCD coupling $α_s$ from 15 methods where high precision measurements are (or will be) available. Those include low-energy observables: (i) lattice QCD, (ii) pion decay factor, (iii) quarkonia and (iv) $τ$ decays, (v) soft parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions, as well as high-energy observables: (vi) global fits of parton distribution functions, (vii) hard parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions, (viii) jets in $e^\pm$p DIS and $γ$-p photoproduction, (ix) photon structure function in $γ$-$γ$, (x) event shapes and (xi) jet cross sections in $e^+e^-$ collisions, (xii) W boson and (xiii) Z boson decays, and (xiv) jets and (xv) top-quark cross sections in proton-(anti)proton collisions. The current status of the theoretical and experimental uncertainties associated to each extraction method, the improvements expected from LHC data in the coming years, and future perspectives achievable in $e^+e^-$ collisions at the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) with $\cal{O}$(1--100 ab$^{-1}$) integrated luminosities yielding 10$^{12}$ Z bosons and jets, and 10$^{8}$ W bosons and $τ$ leptons, are thoroughly reviewed. The current uncertainty of the (preliminary) 2015 strong coupling world-average value, $α_s(m_Z)$ = 0.1177 $\pm$ 0.0013, is about 1\%. Some participants believed this may be reduced by a factor of three in the near future by including novel high-precision observables, although this opinion was not universally shared. At the FCC-ee facility, a factor of ten reduction in the $α_s$ uncertainty should be possible, mostly thanks to the huge Z and W data samples available.

OPE of the energy-momentum tensor correlator in massless QCD

We analytically calculate higher order corrections to coefficient functions of the operator product expansion (OPE) for the Euclidean correlator of two energy-momentum tensors in massless QCD. These are the three-loop contribution to the coefficient C_0 in front of the unity operator O_0=1 and the one and two-loop contributions to the coefficient C_1 in front of the gluon "condensate" operator O_1=-1/4 G^{μν} G_{μν}. For the correlator of two operators O_1 we present the coefficient C_1 at two-loop level.

Adler Function, Sum Rules and Crewther Relation of Order O(alpha_s^4): the Singlet Case

The analytic result for the singlet part of the Adler function of the vector current in a general gauge theory is presented in five-loop approximation. Comparing this result with the corresponding singlet part of the Gross-Llewellyn Smith sum rule [1], we successfully demonstrate the validity of the generalized Crewther relation for the singlet part. This provides a non-trivial test of both our calculations and the generalized Crewther relation. Combining the result with the already available non-singlet part of the Adler function [2,3] we arrive at the complete ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ expression for the Adler function and, as a direct consequence, at the complete ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ correction to the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation into hadrons in a general gauge theory.

Complete QCD Corrections to Hadronic $Z$--Decays in Order $α_s^4$

Corrections of order $α_s^4$ for the axial singlet contributions for the decay rates of the $Z$-boson into hadrons are evaluated in the limit of the heavy top quark mass. Combined with recently finished ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ calculations of the non-signlet corrections, the new results directly lead us to the first {\em complete} ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ prediction for the total hadronic decay rate of the Z-boson. The new ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ term in Z-decay rate lead to a significant stabilization of the perturbative series, to a reduction of the theory uncertainty in the strong coupling constant $α_s$, as extracted from these measurements, and to a small shift of the central value.

R(s) and Z decay in order α_s^4: complete results

We report on our calculation of the order α_s^4 axial singlet contributions for the decay rates of the Z-boson as well as the vector singlet contribution to the cross section for electron-positron annihilation into hadrons. Together with recently finished O(α_s^4) calculations of the non-signlet corrections [1,2], the new results directly lead us to the first complete O(α_s^4) predictions for the total hadronic decay rate of the Z-boson and the ratio R(s).

The relation between the QED charge renormalized in MSbar and on-shell schemes at four loops, the QED on-shell beta-function at five loops and asymptotic contributions to the muon anomaly at five and six loops

In this paper we compute the four-loop corrections to the QED photon self-energy Pi(Q^2) in the two limits of q=0 and Q^2->infinity. These results are used to explicitly construct the conversion relations between the QED charge renormalized in on-shell(OS) and MSbar scheme. Using these relations and results of Baikov et al. [1] we construct the momentum dependent part of Pi(Q^2,m,alpha) at large Q^2 at five loops in both MSbar and OS schemes. As a direct consequence we arrive at the full result for the QED beta-function in the OS scheme at five loops. These results are applied, in turn, to analytically evaluate a class of asymptotic contributions to the muon anomaly at five and six loops.

Vector Correlator in Massless QCD at Order O(alpha_s^4) and the QED beta-function at five loop

We present a concise summary of recent results for the vector correlator in massless QCD at order ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$, with all colour factors being given for a generic colour group. As a direct consequence we arrive at: (i) the full QCD contribution to the QED $β$--function of order $α^2\, α_s^4$ in the MSbar- and MOM-schemes; (ii) the full five-loop result of order $α^6$ for the $β$-function of QED with a generic number of single-charged fermions, again for the MSbar- and MOM-schemes.

Adler Function, Bjorken Sum Rule, and the Crewther Relation to Order alpha_s^4 in a General Gauge Theory

We compute, for the first time, the order alpha_s^4 contributions to the Bjorken sum rule for polarized electron-nucleon scattering and to the (non-singlet) Adler function for the case of a generic colour gauge group. We confirm at the same order a (generalized) Crewther relation which provides a strong test of the correctness of our previously obtained results: the QCD Adler function and the five-loop beta-function in quenched QED. In particular, the appearance of an irrational contribution proportional to zeta_3 in the latter quantity is confirmed. We obtain the commensurate scale equation relating the effective strong coupling constants as inferred from the Bjorken sum rule and from the Adler function at order alpha_s^4.

Adler Function, DIS sum rules and Crewther Relations

The current status of the Adler function and two closely related Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) sum rules, namely, the Bjorken sum rule for polarized DIS and the Gross-Llewellyn Smith sum rule are briefly reviewed. A new result is presented: an analytical calculation of the coefficient function of the latter sum rule in a generic gauge theory in order O(alpha_s^4). It is demonstrated that the corresponding Crewther relation allows to fix two of three colour structures in the O(alpha_s^4) contribution to the singlet part of the Adler function.

Four Loop Massless Propagators: an Algebraic Evaluation of All Master Integrals

The old "glue--and--cut" symmetry of massless propagators, first established in [1], leads --- after reduction to master integrals is performed --- to a host of non-trivial relations between the latter. The relations constrain the master integrals so tightly that they all can be analytically expressed in terms of only few, essentially trivial, watermelon-like integrals. As a consequence we arrive at explicit analytical results for all master integrals appearing in the process of reduction of massless propagators at three and four loops. The transcendental structure of the results suggests a clean explanation of the well-known mystery of the absence of even zetas (zeta_{2n}) in the Adler function and other similar functions essentially reducible to the massless propagators. Once a reduction of massless propagators at five loops is available, our approach should be also applicable for explicit performing the corresponding five-loop master integrals.

Massless correlators of vector, scalar and tensor currents in position space at orders alpha_s^3 and alpha_s^4: explicit analytical results

We present analytical results both in momentum and position space for the massless correlators of the vector and scalar currents to order alpha_s^4 as well as for the tensor currents to order alpha_s^3. The evolution equations for the correlators together with all relevant anomalous dimensions are discussed in detail. As an application we present explicit conversion formulas relating the MSbar-renormalized vector, scalar and tensor currents to their counterparts renormalized in the X-space renormalization scheme more appropriate for lattice calculations.

Wilson Expansion of QCD Propagators at Three Loops: Operators of Dimension Two and Three

In this paper we construct the Wilson short distance operator product expansion for the gluon, quark and ghost propagators in QCD, including operators of dimension two and three, namely, A^2, m^2, m A^2, \ovlψ ψand m^3. We compute analytically the coefficient functions of these operators at three loops for all three propagators in the general covariant gauge. Our results, taken in the Landau gauge, should help to improve the accuracy of extracting the vacuum expectation values of these operators from lattice simulation of the QCD propagators.

Strong-Coupling Constant at Three Loops in Momentum Subtraction Scheme

In this paper we compute the three-loop corrections to the $β$ function in a momentum subtraction (MOM) scheme with a massive quark. The calculation is performed in the background field formalism applying asymptotic expansions for small and large momenta. Special emphasis is devoted to the relation between the coupling constant in the MOM and $\overline{\rm{MS}}$ schemes as well as their ability to describe the phenomenon of decoupling. It is demonstrated by an explicit comparison that the $\overline{\rm{MS}}$ scheme can be consistently used to relate the values of the MOM-scheme strong-coupling constant in the energy regions higher and lower than the massive-quark production threshold. This procedure obviates the necessity to know the full mass dependence of the MOM $β$ function and clearly demonstrates the equivalence of both schemes for the description of physics outside the threshold region.

Top Quark Mediated Higgs Decay into Hadrons to Order alpha(s)**5

We present in analytic form the O(alpha_s^5) correction to the H->gg partial width of the standard-model Higgs boson with intermediate mass M_H<2M_t. Its knowledge is useful because the O(alpha_s^4) correction is sizeable (around 20%). For M_H=120 GeV, the resulting QCD correction factor reads 1 + (215/12) alpha_s^(5)(M_H)/pi + 152.5 (alpha_s^(5)(M_H)/pi)^2 + 381.5 (alpha_s^(5)(M_H)/pi)^3 \approx 1+0.65+0.20+0.02. The new four-loop correction increases the total Higgs-boson hadronic width by a small amount of order 1 promille and stabilizes significantly the residual scale dependence.

Four-loop renormalization of QCD: full set of renormalization constants and anomalous dimensions

The anomalous dimensions of the gluon and ghost fields as well as the ghost-ghost-gluon and quark-quark-gluon vertexes are analytically computed in pQCD. Taken together with already available anomalous dimensions of the coupling constant, the quark field and the mass the results lead to complete knowledge of all renormalization constant entering into the renormalization of the QCD Lagrangian at the four-loop level. As a by-product we get scale and scheme invariant gluon and ghost propagators at NNNLO. Using a theorem due to Dudal, Verschelde and Sorella, we also construct the four-loop anomalous dimension of the ``gluon mass operator'', A^2, in the Landau gauge.

Calculation of the K^0-\bar{K}^0 mixing parameter via the QCD sum rules at finite energies

The QCD finite energy sum rules method is used to show that the parameter of the K^0-\bar{K}_0 mixing \hat{B} is mainly determined by the value of g m_s< \bar{d} G_{μν} σ_{μν} d > and the vacuum expectation values of four-quark operators. Assuming the hypothesis of vacuum dominance and/or unitarity symmetry to estimate latter, it is found that \hat{B}=1.2\pm 0.1. (The updated (March 2001) prediction reads \hat{B} = 1.0 +- 0.1 (for more details, see Comments after the main text).

Heavy-light current correlators at order $α_s^2$ in QCD and HQET

The non-diagonal correlators of vector and scalar currents are considered at three-loop order in QCD. The full mass dependence is computed in the case where one of the quarks is massless and the other one carries mass $M$. We exploit the decoupling relations between the full theory and the heavy quark effective theory (HQET) in order to obtain the logarithmic parts of the leading threshold terms. With the help of conformal mapping and Padé approximation numerical estimates for the non-logarithmic terms are extracted which in turn lead to a prediction of the correlator in HQET at order $α_s^2$. As applications of the vector and scalar correlator we consider the single-top-quark production via the process $q\bar{q}\to t\bar{b}$ and the decay rate of a charged Higgs boson into hadrons, respectively. In both cases the computed NLO corrections are shown to be numerically much less important than the leading ones. On the contrary, the NLO order QCD corrections to the HQET sum rule for the leptonic decay rate of a heavy-light meson proves to be comparable to the leading one.

Vacuum Saturation Hypothesis and QCD Sum Rules

The accuracy of the vacuum saturation hypothesis is discussed using the examples of vacuum expectation values of four-quark operators and the parameter $B$, which determines the short-distance contribution to the $K^0 - \bar K^0$ mixing. Note added: The approach based on sum rules in position (x-)space as elaborated in the paper is relevant and useful tool for the current phenomenology. In particular, it provides the unique possibility of direct non-perturbative estimation of the VEV's of four-quark operators renormalized in any scheme, including the MSbar one.

Renormalization and Running of Quark Mass and Field in the Regularization Invariant and MS-bar Schemes at Three and Four Loops

We derive explicit transformation formulae relating the renormalized quark mass and field as defined in the MS-bar scheme with the corresponding quantities defined in any other scheme. By analytically computing the three-loop quark propagator in the high-energy limit (that is keeping only massless terms and terms of first order in the quark mass) we find the NNNLO conversion factors transforming the MS-bar quark mass and the renormalized quark field to those defined in a ``Regularization Invariant'' (RI) scheme which is more suitable for lattice QCD calculations. The NNNLO contribution in the mass conversion factor turns out to be large and comparable to the previous NNLO contribution at a scale of 2 GeV --- the typical normalization scale employed in lattice simulations. Thus, in order to get a precise prediction for the MS-bar masses of the light quarks from lattice calculations the latter should use a somewhat higher scale of around, say, 3 GeV where the (apparent) convergence of the perturbative series for the mass conversion factor is better. We also compute two more terms in the high-energy expansion of the MS-bar renormalized quark propagator. The result is then used to discuss the uncertainty caused by the use of the high energy limit in determining the MS-bar mass of the charmed quark. As a by-product of our calculations we determine the four-loop anomalous dimensions of the quark mass and field in the Regularization Invariant scheme. Finally, we discuss some physical reasons lying behind the striking absence of zeta(4) in these computed anomalous dimensions.

Non-Singlet Corrections of O(α_s^2 G_F M_t^2) to Γ(Z\to b\bar{b})

The partial decay rate of the $Z$ boson into bottom quarks constitutes an important decay channel. This is mainly due to the virtual presence of the top quark in the loop diagrams giving rise to correction factors which are quadratic in the top quark mass. At one- and two-loop order it turned out that the leading term in the heavy-top expansion leads to very good approximations to the exact result. In this work the non-singlet diagrams at O(α_s^2 G_F M_t^2) are considered.

Second Order QCD Corrections to $Γ(t \to Wb)$

Corrections of $O(α_s^2)$ to the decay of the top quark into a W boson and a bottom quark are calculated. The method is based on an expansion of the top quark propagator for small external momentum, q, as compared to the top quark mass, M_t. The physical point q^2 = M_t^2 is reached through Padé approximations. The described method allows to take effects induced by a finite W boson mass into account. The numerical relevance of the result is discussed. Important cross-checks against recent results for the decay rate $b \to u l \barν$ and the two-loop QED corrections to $μ$-decay are performed.

Effective QCD Interactions of CP-odd Higgs Bosons at Three Loops

In the virtual presence of a heavy quark t, the interactions of a CP-odd scalar boson A, with mass M_A << 2M_t, with gluons and light quarks can be described by an effective Lagrangian. We analytically derive the coefficient functions of the respective physical operators to three loops in quantum chromodynamics (QCD), adopting the modified minimal-subtraction (MS-bar) scheme of dimensional regularization. Special attention is paid to the proper treatment of the gamma_5 matrix and the Levi-Civita epsilon tensor in D dimensions. In the case of the effective ggA coupling, we find agreement with an all-order prediction based on a low-energy theorem in connection with the Adler-Bardeen non-renormalization theorem. This effective Lagrangian allows us to analytically evaluate the next-to-leading QCD correction to the A -> gg partial decay width by considering massless diagrams. For M_A = 100GeV, the resulting correction factor reads 1+(221/12)alpha_s^(5)(M_A)/pi +165.9(alpha_s^(5)(M_A)/pi)^2 approx 1+0.68+0.23. We compare this result with predictions based on various scale-optimization methods.

Mass Corrections to the Tau Decay Rate

In this note radiative corrections to the total hadronic decay rate of the $τ$-lepton are studied employing perturbative QCD and the operator product expansion. We calculate quadratic quark mass corrections to the decay rate ration $R_τ$ to the order ${\cal O}(α_s^2 m^2)$ and find that they contribute appreciably to the Cabbibo supressed decay modes of the $τ$-lepton. We also discuss corrections of mass dimension D=4, where we emphasize the need of a suitable choice of the renormalization scale of the quark and gluon condensates.

Singlet Polarization Functions at O(α_s^2)

We consider the three-loop singlet diagrams induced by axial-vector, scalar and pseudo-scalar currents. Expansions for small and large external momentum $q$ are presented. They are used in combination with conformal mapping and Padé approximations in order to arrive at results for the polarization functions valid for all $q^2$. Results are presented for the imaginary parts which are directly related to physical quantities like the production of top quarks or the decay of scalar or pseudo-scalar Higgs bosons.

Complete QCD Corrections of Order O(α_s^3) to the Hadronic Higgs Decay

We consider the decay of an intermediate mass Higgs boson into hadrons up to order O(α_s^3). The results from the diagrams containing only light degrees of freedom were recently computed in a previous work by K.G. Ch. (Phys. Lett. B 390 (1997) 309). In this letter the remaining contributions involving the top quark are evaluated analytically using an effective field theory approach. Coupled with the previous result the present calculation determines the complete next-next-to-leading order correction to the hadronic decay rate of an intermediate mass Higgs boson.

Extracting alpha_s from Electron-Positron Annihilation around 10 GeV

The total cross section for electron-positron annihilation into hadrons is calculated in the region just below the B meson threshold. QCD corrections up to third order, quark mass effects, initial state radiation, the running of alpha_QED and the tails of the Upsilon resonances are included in the prediction. For given alpha_s the prediction is accurate to 0.5 percent. An experimental measurement with the corresponding precision would allow to determine alpha_s with high accuracy at intermediate energies.

Massive Quark Production in Electron Positron Annihilation to Order $α_s^2$

Recent analytical and numerical results for the three-loop polarization function allow to present a phenomenological analysis of the cross section for massive quark production in electron positron annihilation to order $α_s^2$. Numerical predictions based on fixed order perturbation theory are presented for charm and bottom production above 5 and 11.5 GeV, respectively. The contribution from these energy regions to $α(M_Z^2)$, the running QED coupling constant at scale M_Z, are given. The dominant terms close to threshold, i.e. in an expansion for small quark velocity $β$, are presented.

Automatic Computation Of Three-Loop Two-Point Functions In Large Momentum Expansion

We discuss the calculation of two-point three-loop functions with an arbitrary number of massive propagators and one large external momentum. The relevant subdiagrams are generated automatically. The resulting massless two-point integrals and massive tadpoles are transformed on-line to FORM-expressions ready to be used by existing FORM packages which calculate them analytically. As an example we compute the quartic mass corrections to the photon polarization function.

Corrections of order $α_s^3$ to $R_{had}$ in pQCD with light gluinos

By a completely independent analytic calculation made in general covariant gauge we confirm the known result for the massless $α_s^3$ correction to $R_{had}$ and check explicitly its gauge independence. We extend the calculations to include contributions due to a hypothetical existence of a colour octet of (light) neutral fermions known also under the name of gluinos.

preprint1994arXiv

Quartic Mass Corrections to $R_{had}$

The influence of nonvanishing quark masses on the total cross section in electron positron collisions and on the $Z$ decay rate is calculated. The corrections are expanded in $m^2/s$ and $\as$. Methods similar to those applied for the quadratic mass terms allow to derive the corrections of order $\as m^4/s^2$ and $\as^2m^4/s^2$. Coefficients which depend logarithmically on $m^2/s$ and which cannot be absorbed in a running quark mass arise in order $\as^2$. The implications of these results on electron positron annihilation cross sections at LEP and at lower energies in particular between the charm and the bottom threshold and for energies several GeV above the $b\bar b$ threshold are discussed.

Flavour Singlet ${\cal O}(α_s^2 m_b^2/m_t^2)$ Corrections to the Partial Decay Rate $Γ(Z\rightarrow b\bar{b})$

We analytically compute the flavour singlet ${\cal O}(α_s^2 m_b^2/m_t^2)$ radiative corrections to the partial decay rate $Γ(Z\rightarrow b\bar{b})$. These corrections arise from anomalous ``double traingle'' diagrams containing a single $γ_5$ matrix inside each of two closed fermion loops. They represent the next-to-leading term of the asymptotic expansion in the inverse large top mass. As a byproduct of the calculcation we confirm the results of B.Kniehl and J.H.Kühn for the flavour singlet massless corrections \cite{KniKue90} as well as our previous ${\cal O}(α_s^2 m_b^2/M_Z^2)$ result \cite{CheKwi93}.
