Surjective endomorphisms of projective surfaces: the existence of infinitely many dense orbits

Let $f \colon X \to X$ be a surjective endomorphism of a normal projective surface. When $\operatorname{deg} f \geq 2$, applying an (iteration of) $f$-equivariant minimal model program (EMMP), we determine the geometric structure of $X$. Using this, we extend the second author's result to singular surfaces to the extent that either $X$ has an $f$-invariant non-constant rational function, or $f$ has infinitely many Zariski-dense forward orbits; this result is also extended to Adelic topology (which is finer than Zariski topology).

Algebraicity criteria, invariant subvarities and transcendence problems from arithmetic dynamics

We introduce an algebraicity criteria. It has the following form: under certain conditions, an analytic subvariety of some algebriac variety over a global field $K$, if it contains many $K$-points, then it is algebraic over $K.$ This gives a way to show the transcendence of points via the transcendence of analytic subvarieties. Such a situation often appears when we have a dynamical system, because we can often produce infinitely many points from one point via iterates. Combing this criteria and the study of invariant subvarieties, we get some results on the transcendence in arithmetic dynamics. We get a characterization of products of Böttcher coordinates or products of multiplicative canonical heights for polynomial dynamical pairs to be algebraic. For this, we studied the invariant subvarieties for product of endomorphisms. In particular, we partially generate Medvedev-Scanlon's classification of invariant subvarieties of split polynomial maps to separable endomorphisms on $(\mathbb{P}^1)^N$ in any characteristic. We also get some hight dimensional partial generalization via introducing of a notion of independence. We then study dominant endomorphisms $f$ on $\mathbb{A}^N$ over a number field of algebraic degree $d\geq 2$. We show that in most of the cases (e.g. when such an endomorphism extends to an endomorphism on $\mathbb{P}^N$), there are many analytic curves centered at infinity which are periodic. We show that for most of them, it is algebraic if and only if it contains one algebraic point. We also study the periodic curves. We show that for most of $f$, all periodic curves has degree at most $2$. When $N=2$, we get a more precise classification result. We show that under a condition which is satisfied for a general $f$, if $f$ has infinitely many periodic curves, then $f$ is homogenous up to a changing of origin.

Topological entropy of a rational map over a complete metrized field

We prove that the topological entropy of any dominant rational self-map of a projective variety defined over a complete non-Archimedean field is bounded from above by the maximum of its dynamical degrees, thereby extending a theorem of Gromov and Dinh-Sibony from the complex to the non-Archimedean setting. We proceed by proving that any regular self-map which admits a regular extension to a projective model defined over the valuation ring has necessarily zero entropy. To this end we introduce the e-reduction of a Berkovich analytic space, a notion of independent interest.

Geometric Bogomolov conjecture in arbitrary characteristics

The goal of this paper is to prove the full geometric Bogomolov conjecture. We first reduce it to the case that the extension of the base fields has transcendence degree 1, and then we prove the later case by intersection theory in algebraic geometry. The proof uses Yamaki's reduction theorem on the geometric Bogomolov conjecture and the Manin--Mumford conjecture proved by Raynaud and Hrushovski.

Three chapters on Cremona groups

In the first part of this article, we answer a question of I. Dolgachev, which is related to the following problem: given a birational map $f\in\mathrm{Bir}(\mathbb{P}^m_\mathbf{k})$ and a linear projective map $A\in\mathrm{PGL}_{m+1}(\mathbf{k})$, when is $A\circ f$ regularizable? Dolgachev's initial question is whether this may happen for all $A$ in $\mathrm{PGL}_{m+1}(\mathbf{k})$, and the answer is negative. We then look at the sequence $n\mapsto\mathrm{deg}\, f^n$, $f\in\mathrm{Bir}(\mathbb{P}^2_\mathbf{k})$. We show that there is no constraint on the sequence $n\mapsto\mathrm{deg}\, f^n-\mathrm{deg}\, f^{n-1}$ for small values of $n$. Finally we study the degree of pencils of curves which are invariant by a birational map. When f is a Halphen or Jonquières twist, we prove that this degree is bounded by a function of $\mathrm{deg}\, f$. We derive corollaries on the structure of conjugacy classes, and their properties with respect to the Zariski topology of $\mathrm{Bir}(\mathbb{P}^2_\mathbf{k})$.

Finiteness properties of pseudo-hyperbolic varieties

Motivated by Lang-Vojta's conjecture, we show that the set of dominant rational self-maps of an algebraic variety over a number field with only finitely many rational points in any given number field is finite by combining Amerik's theorem for dynamical systems of infinite order with properties of Prokhorov-Shramov's notion of quasi-minimal models. We also prove a similar result in the geometric setting by using again Amerik's theorem and Prokhorov-Shramov's notion of quasi-minimal model, but also Weil's regularization theorem for birational self-maps and properties of dynamical degrees. Furthermore, in the geometric setting, we obtain an analogue of Kobayashi-Ochiai's finiteness result for varieties of general type, and thereby generalize Noguchi's theorem (formerly Lang's conjecture).

Intersection of valuation rings in $k[x,y]$

We associate to any given finite set of valuations on the polynomial ring in two variables over an algebraically closed field a numerical invariant whose positivity characterizes the case when the intersection of their valuation rings has maximal transcendence degree over the base fields. As an application, we give a criterion for when an analytic branch at infinity in the affine plane that is defined over a number field in a suitable sense is the branch of an algebraic curve.
