We prove a version of the Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations for Schur polynomials of Kähler forms and for Schur polynomials of positive forms on a complex vector space.
We extend Prekopa's Theorem and the Brunn-Minkowski Theorem from convexity to $F$-subharmonicity. We apply this to the interpolation problem of convex functions and convex sets introducing a new notion of "harmonic interpolation" that we view as a generalization of Minkowski-addition.
Let $X$ be a $d$ dimensional projective manifold, $E$ be an ample vector bundle on $X$ and $0\le λ_N\le λ_{N-1} \le \cdots \le λ_1 \le \operatorname{rank}(E)$ be a partition of $d-2$. We prove that the Schur class $s_λ(E)\in H^{d-2,d-2}(X)$ has the Hard Lefschetz property and satisfies the Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations. As a consequence we obtain various new inequalities between characteristic classes of ample vector bundles, including a higher-rank version of the Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities.
We study the asymptotic behaviour of the partial density function associated to sections of a positive hermitian line bundle that vanish to a particular order along a fixed divisor $Y$. Assuming the data in question is invariant under an $S^1$-action (locally around $Y$) we prove that this density function has a distributional asymptotic expansion that is in fact smooth upon passing to a suitable real blow-up. Moreover we recover the existence of the "forbidden region" $R$ on which the density function is exponentially small, and prove that it has an "error-function" behaviour across the boundary $\partial R$. As an illustrative application, we use this to study a certain natural function that can be associated to a divisor in a Kähler manifold.
We investigate envelopes of positive metrics with a prescribed singularity type. First we generalise work of Berman to this setting, proving C^{1,1} regularity of such envelopes, showing their Monge-Ampere measure is supported on a certain "equilibrium set" and connecting with the asymptotics of the partial Bergman functions coming from multiplier ideals. We investigate how these envelopes behave on certain products, and how they relate to the Legendre transform of a test curve of singularity types in the context of geodesic rays in the space of Kähler potentials. Finally we consider the associated exhaustion function of these equilibrium sets, connecting it both to the Legendre transform and to the geometry of the Okounkov body.
We prove the existence of canonical tubular neighbourhoods around complex submanifolds of Kähler manifolds that are adapted to both the holomorphic and symplectic structure. This is done by solving the complex Homogeneous Monge-Ampère equation on the deformation to the normal cone of the submanifold. We use this to establish local regularity for global weak solutions, giving local smoothness to the (weak) geodesic rays in the space of (weak) Kähler potentials associated to a given complex submanifold. We also use it to get an optimal regularity result for naturally defined plurisubharmonic envelopes and for the boundaries of their associated equilibrium sets.
We formulate a notion of K-stability for Kähler manifolds, and prove one direction of the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture in this setting. More precisely, we prove that the Mabuchi functional being bounded below (resp. coercive) implies K-semistability (resp. uniformly K-stable). In particular this shows that the existence of a constant scalar curvature Kähler metric implies K-semistability, and K-stability if one assumes the automorphism group is discrete. We also show how Stoppa's argument holds in the Kähler case, giving a simpler proof of this K-stability statement.
We provide an algebraic framework for quantization of Hermitian metrics that are solutions of the Hitchin equation for Higgs bundles over a projective manifold. Using Geometric Invariant Theory, we introduce a notion of balanced metrics in this context. We show that balanced metrics converge at the quantum limit towards the solution of the Hitchin equation. We relate the existence of balanced metrics to the Gieseker stability of the Higgs bundle.
We introduce a notion of stability for sheaves with respect to several polarisations that generalises the usual notion of Gieseker-stability. We prove, under a boundedness assumption, which we show to hold on threefolds or for rank two sheaves on base manifolds of arbitrary dimension, that semistable sheaves have a projective coarse moduli space that depends on a natural stability parameter. We then give two applications of this machinery. First, we show that given a real ample class $ω\in N^1(X)_\mathbb{R}$ on a smooth projective threefold $X$ there exists a projective moduli space of sheaves that are Gieseker-semistable with respect to $ω$. Second, we prove that given any two ample line bundles on $X$ the corresponding Gieseker moduli spaces are related by Thaddeus-flips.
A twisted Higgs bundle on a Kähler manifold $X$ is a pair $(E,ϕ)$ consisting of a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ and a holomorphic bundle morphism $ϕ\colon M\otimes E \to E$ for some holomorphic vector bundle $M$. Such objects were first considered by Hitchin when $X$ is a curve and $M$ is the tangent bundle of $X$, and also by Simpson for higher dimensional base. The Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence for such pairs states that $(E,ϕ)$ is polystable if and only if $E$ admits a hermitian metric solving the Hitchin equation. This correspondence is a powerful tool to decide whether there exists a solution of the equation, but it provides little information as to the actual solution. In this paper we study a quantization of this problem that is expressed in terms of finite dimensional data and balanced metrics that give approximate solutions to the Hitchin equation. Motivation for this study comes from work of Donagi--Wijnholt on arXiv:1104.2610 concerning balanced metrics for the Vafa-Witten equations.
We study regularity properties of solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the complex Homogeneous Monge-Ampère equation. We show that for certain boundary data on $\mathbb P^1$ the solution $Φ$ to this Dirichlet problem is connected via a Legendre transform to an associated flow in the complex plane called the Hele-Shaw flow. Using this we determine precisely the harmonic discs associated to $Φ$. We then give examples for which these discs are not dense in the product, and also prove that this situation persists after small perturbations of the boundary data.
We present a new connection between the Hele-Shaw flow, also known as two-dimensional (2D) Laplacian growth, and the theory of holomorphic discs with boundary contained in a totally real submanifold. Using this we prove short time existence and uniqueness of the Hele-Shaw flow with varying permeability both when starting from a single point and also starting from a smooth Jordan domain. Applying the same ideas we prove that the moduli space of smooth quadrature domains is a smooth manifold whose dimension we also calculate, and we give a local existence theorem for the inverse potential problem in the plane.
Starting with the data of a curve of singularity types, we use the Legendre transform to construct weak geodesic rays in the space of locally bounded metrics on an ample line bundle L over a compact manifold. Using this we associate weak geodesics to suitable filtrations of the algebra of sections of L. In particular this works for the natural filtration coming from an algebraic test configuration, and we show how in this case we recover the weak geodesic ray of Phong-Sturm.
We investigate Chow stability of projective bundles P(E) where E is a strictly Gieseker stable bundle over a base manifold that has constant scalar curvature. We show that, for suitable polarisations L, the pair (P(E),L) is Chow stable and give examples for which it is not asymptotically Chow stable.
We consider a notion of balanced metrics for triples (X,L,E) which depend on a parameter α, where X is smooth complex manifold with an ample line bundle L and E is a holomorphic vector bundle over X. For generic choice of α, we prove that the limit of a convergent sequence of balanced metrics leads to a Hermitian-Einstein metric on E and a constant scalar curvature Kähler metric in c_1(L). For special values of α, limits of balanced metrics are solutions of a system of coupled equations relating a Hermitian-Einstein metric on E and a Kähler metric in c_1(L). For this, we compute the top two terms of the density of states expansion of the Bergman kernel of E \otimes L^k.
