Idempotent Fourier multipliers acting contractively on $H^p$ spaces

We describe the idempotent Fourier multipliers that act contractively on $H^p$ spaces of the $d$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^d$ for $d\geq 1$ and $1\leq p \leq \infty$. When $p$ is not an even integer, such multipliers are just restrictions of contractive idempotent multipliers on $L^p$ spaces, which in turn can be described by suitably combining results of Rudin and Andô. When $p=2(n+1)$, with $n$ a positive integer, contractivity depends in an interesting geometric way on $n$, $d$, and the dimension of the set of frequencies associated with the multiplier. Our results allow us to construct a linear operator that is densely defined on $H^p(\mathbb{T}^\infty)$ for every $1 \leq p \leq \infty$ and that extends to a bounded operator if and only if $p=2,4,\ldots,2(n+1)$.

Strict density inequalities for sampling and interpolation in weighted spaces of holomorphic functions

Answering a question of Lindholm, we prove strict density inequalities for sampling and interpolation in Fock spaces of entire functions in several complex variables defined by a plurisubharmonic weight. In particular, these spaces do not admit a set that is simultaneously sampling and interpolating. To prove optimality of the density conditions, we construct sampling sets with a density arbitrarily close to the critical density. The techniques combine methods from several complex variables (estimates for $\bar \partial$) and the theory of localized frames in general reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (with no analyticity assumed). The abstract results on Fekete points and deformation of frames may be of independent interest.

Energy and discrepancy of rotationally invariant determinantal point processes in high dimensional spheres

We study expected Riesz s-energies and linear statistics of some determinantal processes on the sphere. In particular, we compute the expected Riesz and logarithmic energies of the determinantal processes given by the reproducing kernel of the space of spherical harmonics. This kernel defines the so called harmonic ensemble on the sphere. With these computations we improve previous estimates for the discrete minimal energy of configurations of points in the sphere. We prove a comparison result for Riesz 2-energies of points defined through determinantal point processes associated to isotropic kernels. As a corollary we get that the Riesz 2-energy of the harmonic ensemble is optimal among ensembles defined by isotropic kernels with the same trace. Finally, we study the variance of smooth and rough linear statistics for the harmonic ensemble and compare the results with the variance for the spherical ensemble.

Deformation of Gabor systems

We introduce a new notion for the deformation of Gabor systems. Such deformations are in general nonlinear and, in particular, include the standard jitter error and linear deformations of phase space. With this new notion we prove a strong deformation result for Gabor frames and Gabor Riesz sequences that covers the known perturbation and deformation results. Our proof of the deformation theorem requires a new characterization of Gabor frames and Gabor Riesz sequences. It is in the style of Beurling's characterization of sets of sampling for bandlimited functions and extends significantly the known characterization of Gabor frames "without inequalities" from lattices to non-uniform sets.

Uniformly bounded orthonormal polynomials on the sphere

Given any $\varepsilon>0$, we construct an orthonormal system of $n_k$ uniformly bounded polynomials of degree at most $k$ on the unit sphere in $\mathbb R^{m+1}$ where $n_k$ is bigger than $1-\varepsilon$ times the dimension of the space of polynomials of degree at most $k$. Similarly we construct an orthonormal system of sections of powers $L^k$ of a positive holomorphic line bundle on a compact Kähler manifold with cardinality bigger than $1-\varepsilon$ times the dimension of the space of global holomorphic sections to $L^k$.

Equidistribution estimates for Fekete points on complex manifolds

We study the equidistribution of Fekete points in a compact complex manifold. These are extremal point configurations defined through sections of powers of a positive line bundle. Their equidistribution is a known result. The novelty of our approach is that we relate them to the problem of sampling and interpolation on line bundles, which allows us to estimate the equidistribution of the Fekete points quantitatively. In particular we estimate the Kantorovich-Wasserstein distance of the Fekete points to its limiting measure. The sampling and interpolation arrays on line bundles are a subject of independent interest, and we provide necessary density conditions through the classical approach of Landau, that in this context measures the local dimension of the space of sections of the line bundle. We obtain a complete geometric characterization of sampling and interpolation arrays in the case of compact manifolds of dimension one, and we prove that there are no arrays of both sampling and interpolation in the more general setting of semipositive line bundles.

Reverse Carleson measures in Hardy spaces

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a measure $μ$ in the closed unit disk to be a reverse Carleson measure for Hardy spaces. This extends a previous result of Lefévre, Li, Queffélec and Rodr\'ıguez-Piazza \cite{LLQR}. We also provide a simple example showing that the analogue for the Paley-Wiener space does not hold. This example can be generalised to model spaces associated to one-component inner functions.

Inhomogenous random zero sets

We construct random point processes in the complex plane that are asymptotically close to a given doubling measure. The processes we construct are the zero sets of random entire functions that are constructed through generalised Fock spaces. We offer two alternative constructions, one via bases for these spaces and another via frames, and we show that for both constructions the average distribution of the zero set is close to the given doubling measure, and that the variance is much less than the variance of the corresponding Poisson point process. We prove some asymptotic large deviation estimates for these processes, which in particular allow us to estimate the `hole probability', the probability that there are no zeroes in a given open bounded subset of the plane. We also show that the `smooth linear statistics' are asymptotically normal, under an additional regularity hypothesis on the measure. These generalise previous results by Sodin and Tsirelson for the Lebesgue measure.

Beurling-Landau densities of weighted Fekete sets and correlation kernel estimates

In this paper we discuss equidistribution results for weighted Fekete sets in subsets of the plane. More precisely, we show that Fekete sets are maximally spread out relative to a rescaled version of the Beurling--Landau density, in the "droplet" corresponding to the given weight. Our method combines Landau's idea to relate the density of a family of discrete sets to properties of the spectrum of the concentration operator, with estimates for the correlation kernel of the corresponding random normal matrix ensemble.

Beurling-Landau's density on compact manifolds

Given a compact Riemannian manifold $M$, we consider the subspace of $L^2(M)$ generated by the eigenfunctions of the Laplacian of eigenvalue less than $L\geq 1$. This space behaves like a space of polynomials and we have an analogy with the Paley-Wiener spaces. We study the interpolating and Marcienkiewicz-Zygmund (M-Z) families and provide necessary conditions for sampling and interpolation in terms of the Beurling-Landau densities. As an application, we prove the equidistribution of the Fekete arrays on some compact manifolds.

On Lundh's percolation difussion

A collection of spherical obstacles in the ball in Euclidean space is said to be avoidable for Brownian motion if there is a positive probability that Brownian motion diffusing from some point in the ball will avoid all the obstacles and reach the boundary of the ball. The centres of the spherical obstacles are generated according to a Poisson point process while the radius of an obstacle is a deterministic function depending only on the distance from the obstacle's centre to the centre of the ball. Lundh has given the name percolation diffusion to this process if avoidable configurations are generated with positive probability. An integral condition for percolation diffusion is derived in terms of the intensity of the Poisson point process and the function that determines the radii of the obstacles.

Some spectral properties of the canonical solution operator to $\bar\partial$ on weighted Fock spaces

We characterize the Schatten class membership of the canonical solution operator to $\bar\partial$ acting on $L^2(e^{-2ϕ})$, where $ϕ$ is a subharmonic function with $Δϕ$ a doubling measure. The obtained characterization is in terms of $Δϕ$. As part of our approach, we study Hankel operators with anti-analytic symbols acting on the corresponding Fock space of entire functions in $L^2(e^{-2ϕ})$.

The Bohnenblust--Hille inequality for homogeneous polynomials is hypercontractive

The Bohnenblust--Hille inequality says that the $\ell^{\frac{2m}{m+1}}$-norm of the coefficients of an $m$-homogeneous polynomial $P$ on $\C^n$ is bounded by $\| P\|_\infty$ times a constant independent of $n$, where $\|\cdot \|_\infty$ denotes the supremum norm on the polydisc $\D^n$. The main result of this paper is that this inequality is hypercontractive, i.e., the constant can be taken to be $C^m$ for some $C>1$. Combining this improved version of the Bohnenblust--Hille inequality with other results, we obtain the following: The Bohr radius for the polydisc $\D^n$ behaves asymptotically as $\sqrt{(\log n)/n}$ modulo a factor bounded away from 0 and infinity, and the Sidon constant for the set of frequencies $\bigl\{\log n: n \text{a positive integer} \le N\bigr\}$ is $\sqrt{N}\exp\{(-1/\sqrt{2}+o(1))\sqrt{\log N\log\log N}\}$ as $N\to \infty$.

Equidistribution of the Fekete points on the sphere

The Fekete points are the points that maximize a Vandermonde-type determinant that appears in the polynomial Lagrange interpolation formula. They are well suited points for interpolation formulas and numerical integration. We prove the asymptotic equidistribution of the Fekete points in the sphere. The way we proceed is by showing their connection with other array of points, the Marcinkiewicz-Zygmund arrays and the interpolating arrays, that have been studied recently.

The Polya-Tchebotarov problem

We describe the solutions to the problem of identifying the continuum in the complex plane that minimizes the logarithmic capacity among all the continuum that contain a prefixed finite set of points. This description can be implemented numerically and this can be used to improve the estimates on the Bloch-Landau constant and other related problems as the maximal expected lifetime of the Brownian motion on domains of inner radius one or the principal eigenvalue for the Laplace operator on such domains.
