On the Difference Graph of power graphs of finite groups

The power graph of a finite group $G$ is a simple undirected graph with vertex set $G$ and two vertices are adjacent if one is a power of the other. The enhanced power graph of a finite group $G$ is a simple undirected graph whose vertex set is the group $G$ and two vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if there exists $c \in G$ such that both $a$ and $b$ are powers of $c$. In this paper, we investigate the difference graph $\mathcal{D}(G)$ of a finite group $G$, which is the difference of the enhanced power graph and the power graph of $G$ with all isolated vertices removed. We study the difference graphs of finite groups with forbidden subgraphs among other results. We first characterize an arbitrary finite group $G$ such that $\mathcal{D}(G)$ is a chordal graph, star graph, dominatable, threshold graph, and split graph. From this, we conclude that the latter four graph classes are equivalent for $\mathcal{D}(G)$. By applying these results, we classify the nilpotent groups $G$ such that $\mathcal{D}(G)$ belong to the aforementioned five graph classes. This shows that all these graph classes are equivalent for $\mathcal{D}(G)$ when $G$ is nilpotent. Then, we characterize the nilpotent groups whose difference graphs are cograph, bipartite, Eulerian, planar, and outerplanar. Finally, we consider the difference graph of non-nilpotent groups and determine the values of $n$ such that the difference graphs of the symmetric group $S_n$ and alternating group $A_n$ are cograph, chordal, split, and threshold.

Automorphisms of left Ideal relation graph over full matrix ring

The left-ideal relation graph on a ring $R$, denoted by $\overrightarrow{Γ_{l-i}}(R)$, is a directed graph whose vertex set is all the elements of $R$ and there is a directed edge from $x$ to a distinct $y$ if and only if the left ideal generated by $x$, written as $[x]$, is properly contained in the left ideal generated by $y$. In this paper, the automorphisms of $\overrightarrow{Γ_{l-i}}(R)$ are characterized, where $R$ is the ring of all $n \times n$ matrices over a finite field $F_q$. The undirected left relation graph, denoted by $Γ_{l-i}(M_n(F_q))$, is the simple graph whose vertices are all the elements of $R$ and two distinct vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if and only if either $[x] \subset [y]$ or $[y] \subset [x]$ is considered. Various graph theoretic properties of $Γ_{l-i}(M_n(F_q))$ including connectedness, girth, clique number, etc. are studied.

Certain properties of the enhanced power graph associated with a finite group

The enhanced power graph of a finite group $G$, denoted by $\mathcal{P}_E(G)$, is the simple undirected graph whose vertex set is $G$ and two distinct vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if $x, y \in \langle z \rangle$ for some $z \in G$. In this article, we determine all finite groups such that the minimum degree and the vertex connectivity of $\mathcal{P}_E(G)$ are equal. Also, we classify all groups whose (proper) enhanced power graphs are strongly regular. Further, the vertex connectivity of the enhanced power graphs associated to some nilpotent groups is obtained. Finally, we obtain a lower bound and an upper bound for the Wiener index of $\mathcal{P}_E(G)$, where $G$ is a nilpotent group. The finite nilpotent groups attaining these bounds are also characterized.

Lambda Number of the enhanced power graph of a finite group

The enhanced power graph of a finite group $G$ is the simple undirected graph whose vertex set is $G$ and two distinct vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if $x, y \in \langle z \rangle$ for some $z \in G$. An $L( 2,1)$-labeling of graph $Γ$ is an integer labeling of $V(Γ)$ such that adjacent vertices have labels that differ by at least $2$ and vertices distance $2$ apart have labels that differ by at least $1$. The $λ$-number of $Γ$, denoted by $λ(Γ)$, is the minimum range over all $L( 2,1)$-labelings. In this article, we study the lambda number of the enhanced power graph $\mathcal{P}_E(G)$ of the group $G$. This paper extends the corresponding results, obtained in [22], of the lambda number of power graphs to enhanced power graphs. Moreover, for a non-trivial simple group $G$ of order $n$, we prove that $λ(\mathcal{P}_E(G)) = n$ if and only if $G$ is not a cyclic group of order $n\geq 3$. Finally, we compute the exact value of $λ(\mathcal{P}_E(G))$ if $G$ is a finite nilpotent group.

On the intersection ideal graph of semigroups

The intersection ideal graph $Γ(S)$ of a semigroup $S$ is a simple undirected graph whose vertices are all nontrivial left ideals of $S$ and two distinct left ideals $I, J$ are adjacent if and only if their intersection is nontrivial. In this paper, we investigate the connectedness of $Γ(S)$. We show that if $Γ(S)$ is connected then $diam(Γ(S)) \leq 2$. Further we classify the semigroups such that the diameter of their intersection graph is two. Other graph invariants, namely perfectness, planarity, girth, dominance number, clique number, independence number etc. are also discussed. Finally, if $S$ is union of $n$ minimal left ideals then we obtain the automorphism group of $Γ(S)$.

The complement of enhanced power graph of a finite group

The enhanced power graph $\mathcal{P}_E(G)$ of a finite group $G$ is the simple undirected graph whose vertex set is $G$ and two distinct vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if $x, y \in \langle z \rangle$ for some $z \in G$. In this article, we give an affirmative answer of the question posed by Cameron [6] which states that: Is it true that the complement of the enhanced power graph $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G)}$ of a non-cyclic group $G$ has only one connected component apart from isolated vertices? We classify all finite groups $G$ such that the graph $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G)}$ is bipartite. We show that the graph $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G)}$ is weakly perfect. Further, we study the subgraph $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G^*)}$ of $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G)}$ induced by all the non-isolated vertices of $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G)}$. We classify all finite groups $G$ such that the graph is $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G^*)}$ is unicyclic and pentacyclic. We prove the non-existence of finite groups $G$ such that the graph $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G^*)}$ is bicyclic, tricyclic or tetracyclic. Finally, we characterize all finite groups $G$ such that the graph $\bar{\mathcal{P}_E(G^*)}$ is outerplanar, planar, projective-planar and toroidal, respectively.

Equality of various graphs on finite semigroups

In this paper, we consider various graphs, namely: power graph, cyclic graph, enhanced power graph and commuting graph, on a finite semigroup $S$. For an arbitrary pair of these four graphs, we classify finite semigroups such that the graphs in this pair are equal. In this connection, for each of the graph we also give a necessary and sufficient condition on $S$ such that it is complete. The work of this paper generalize the corresponding results obtained for groups.

On The Commuting Graph of Semidihedral Group

The commuting graph $Δ(G)$ of a finite non-abelian group $G$ is a simple graph with vertex set $G$ and two distinct vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if $xy = yx$. In this paper, among some properties of $Δ(G)$, we investigate $Δ(SD_{8n})$ the commuting graph of the semidihedral group $SD_{8n}$. In this connection, we discuss various graph invariants of $Δ(SD_{8n})$ including minimum degree, vertex connectivity, independence number, matching number and detour properties. We also obtain the Laplacian spectrum, metric dimension and resolving polynomial of $Δ(SD_{8n})$.

On the enhanced power graph of a group

The enhanced power graph $\mathcal{P}_e(G)$ of a group $G$ is a graph with vertex set $G$ and two vertices are adjacent if they belong to the same cyclic subgroup. In this paper, we consider the minimum degree, independence number and matching number of enhanced power graphs of finite groups. We first study these graph invariants for $\mathcal{P}_e(G)$ when $G$ is any finite group, and then determine them when $G$ is a finite abelian $p$-group, $U_{6n} = \langle a, b : a^{2n} = b^3 = e, ba =ab^{-1} \rangle$, the dihedral group $D_{2n}$, or the semidihedral group $SD_{8n}$. If $G$ is any of these groups, we prove that $\mathcal{P}_e(G)$ is perfect and then obtain its strong metric dimension. Additionally, we give an expression for the independence number of $\mathcal{P}_e(G)$ for any finite abelian group $G$. These results along with certain known equalities yield the edge connectivity, vertex covering number and edge covering number of enhanced power graphs of the respective groups as well.

Investigations of the heterometallic Ludwigite Ni${_2}$AlBO${_5}$

We present magnetic, thermodynamic, dielectric and structural investigations on the aluminoborate Ni${_2}$AlBO${_5}$, belonging to the ludwigite family. Room temperature structural refinement suggests that the system crystallizes in the orthorhombic $Pbam$ symmetry, in similarity with most members of this material class. Magnetic and thermodynamic measurements shows that the system undergoes a phase transition to an antiferromagnetic state at 38K, signatures of which are also seen in the lattice parameters and the dielectric constant. Short range magnetic correlations appear to persist to much higher temperatures - a regime in which the ac susceptibility exhibits a power law temperature dependence, in agreement with that expected for random exchange Heisenberg antiferromagnetic spin chains.

Magneto-thermally Activated Spin-state Transition in La0.95Ca0.05CoO3: Magnetically-tunable Dipolar Glass and Giant Magneto-electricity

Magneto-dielectric spectra of La0.95Ca0.05CoO3 covering the crossover of spin states reveals strong coupling of its spin and dipolar degrees of freedom. Signature of spin-state transition at 30K clearly manifests in magnetization, supported by Co L_3,2-edge XAS data on the doped-specimen as consistent with its suppressed T_SST vs. ~150K for pure LaCoO3. Dispersive activation-step Δε'(T_ω)~O(10^2) and relaxation-peak ε"(T_ω) reflect the allied influence of coexistent spin-states on the dielectric character. Dipolar relaxation in the LS regime below T_SST is partly segmental (VFT kinetics) featuring magnetic-field tunability, whereas in the LS/IS-spin disordered state above 30K, it is uncorrelated (Arrhenic kinetics) and almost impervious to the H-field. Kinetics-switchover defines the dipolar-glass transition temperature Tg(H), below which the magneto-thermally-activated cooperative relaxations freeze-out by the VFT temperature T_0(H). Applied H-field facilitates thermally-activated SST and accelerates the dipolar relaxations; a critical 5T field collapsing the entire kinetics into a single Arrhenic behavior. Magneto-electricity (ME) spanning sizable thermo-spectral range registers diverse signatures here in the kinetic, spectral, and field behaviors, in contrast to the static/perturbative ME observed close to the spin-ordering in typical multiferroics. Intrinsic magneto-dielectricity (50%) along with vanishing magneto-loss is obtained at (27K/50kHz)_9T. Sub-linear deviant field-hysteretic split seen in ε'(H)|_>4T suggests the emergence of robust dipoles organized into nano-clusters, realized by the internally-generated high magneto-electric field. An elaborate ω-T multi-dispersions diagram maps the rich variety of phase/response patterns, revealing the highly-interacting magnetic and electric moments in the system.

Relieving Geometrical frustration through doping in the Dy$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$BaCo$_{4}$O$_{7}$ Swedenborgites

The geometrically frustrated antiferromagnetic Swedenborgite DyBaCo$_{4}$O$_{7}$ is investigated by a combination of xray diffraction, magnetization and dielectric measurements. Systematic doping in the series Dy$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$BaCo$_{4}$O$_{7}$ causes a lifting of the geometrical frustration resulting in a structural transition from a Trigonal P31c to an orthorhombic Pbn2$_{1 }$ symmetry at $x=0.4$. This structural transition can also be accessed as a function of temperature, and all our orthorhombic specimens exhibit this transition at elevated temperatures. In line with previous reports, the temperature at which this structural transition occurs scales linearly with the mean ionic radii of the $A$ site ion. However, CaBaCo$_{4}$O$_{7}$ which has an equal number of Co${^{2+}}$ and Co${^{3+}}$ ions clearly violates this quasilinear relationship, indicating that charge ordering could also play a critical role in stabilizing the orthorhombic distortion in this system. Using thermoremanent magnetization measurements to circumvent the problem of the large paramagnetic background arising from Dy${^{3+}}$ ions, we chart out the phase diagram of the Dy$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$BaCo$_{4}$O$_{7}$ series.

Multiferroicity in Li0.05Ti0.02Ni0.93O Above Room Temperature

We present direct evidence of above room temperature magneto-electricity in single-phase Li0.05Ti0.02Ni0.93O with above-ambient antiferromagnetic ordering. Temperature-hysteresis in warming/cooling heat-flow thermograms establishes a discontinuous/first-order nature of the cubic-to-rhombohedral structural change concurring the AFM transition. At TN = 488K, magnetization features a sharp slope-&-curvature discontinuity and dielectric constant shows a peak-anomaly. Room temperature P-E loop measures a large polarization traceable to the Nèel domain walls. We find positive room-temperature magneto-capacitance up to 9T, linear at low-fields (MC ~ Hlow); the prefactor slope (dlnε'/dHlow) featuring a positive frequency-coefficient rises from O(10-3/T) at 0.1MHz to O(10-1/T) at 4MHz, with maximum dε'/dH ~ 120/T.

Syntactic semigroup problem for the semigroup reducts of Affine Near-semirings over Brandt Semigroups

The syntactic semigroup problem is to decide whether a given finite semigroup is syntactic or not. This work investigates the syntactic semigroup problem for both the semigroup reducts of $A^+(B_n)$, the affine near-semiring over a Brandt semigroup $B_n$. It is ascertained that both the semigroup reducts of $A^+(B_n)$ are syntactic semigroups.

Copper Titanates: A Family of Magneto-Quantum Paraelectrics

A magneto-quantum-paraelectric family is emergent from the shared low-temperature characteristics of representative SrCu3Ti4O12 (SCTO), CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO), and Ca0.9Li0.1Cu3Ti4O12 (CLCTO) antiferro-tilted/A1/4A'3/4BO3-structures. Above their magnetic ordering temperatures TN, dielectric permittivity of SCTO and CLCTO follow typical quantum paraelectric Barrett-form unambiguously, whereas in CCTO, this behaviour is masked by the huge ε'-step, born of thermally-activated site-antisite (Ca/Cu) disorder. The hidden quantum paraelectricity in CCTO is revealed with Li-doping at Ca-site, by considerable temperature-scale-upshift of the colossal dielectric constant (CDC) anomaly.

Glassy Domain Wall Matter in KH2PO4 Crystal: Field-Induced Transition

We have investigated the domain wall (DW) dielectric response of potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) crystal under 0-500V dc-bias electric field. Activated DW-contribution onsets freezing at Tf(ω, V), some 27K below the ferroelectric TC; timescale τf(T, V) exhibiting Vogel-Fulcher (VFT) divergence. Sharply distinct low- and high-field behaviors of TC(V), DW-Tg(V), VFT-T0(V), barrier energy Ua(V), and DW glass-fragility m(V) signify a field-induced transition from randomly-pinned/vitreous to clustered/glass-ceramic phases of domain wall matter. Field-hysteresis (ε'poled > ε'unpoled) observed at high dc-bias indicates coexistent unclustered DW phase, quenched-in during the field-cooling. We construct a paradigm T-E phase diagram depicting the complex glassy patterns of domain wall matter.

The Large Rank of a Finite Semigroup using Prime Subsets

The \emph{large rank} of a finite semigroup $Γ$, denoted by $r_5(Γ)$, is the least number $n$ such that every subset of $Γ$ with $n$ elements generates $Γ$. Howie and Ribeiro showed that $r_5(Γ) = |V| + 1$, where $V$ is a largest proper subsemigroup of $Γ$. This work considers the complementary concept of subsemigroups, called \emph{prime subsets}, and gives an alternative approach to find the large rank of a finite semigroup. In this connection, the paper provides a shorter proof of Howie and Ribeiro's result about the large rank of Brandt semigroups. Further, this work obtains the large rank of the semigroup of order-preserving singular selfmaps.

Affine Near-Semirings over Brandt Semigroups

In order to study the structure of $A^+(B_n)$ -- the affine near-semiring over a Brandt semigroup -- this work completely characterizes the Green's classes of its semigroup reducts. In this connection, this work characterizes the elements of $A^+(B_n)$ and reports the size of $A^+(B_n)$. Further, idempotents and regular elements of the semigroup reducts of $A^+(B_n)$ have also been characterized and studied some relevant semigroups in $A^+(B_n)$.

The Ranks of the Additive Semigroup Reduct of Affine Near-Semiring over Brandt Semigroup

This work investigates the rank properties of $A^+(B_n)$, the additive semigroup reduct of affine near-semiring over Brandt semigroup $B_n$. In this connection, this work reports the ranks $r_1$, $r_2$, $r_3$ and $r_5$ of $A^+(B_n)$ and identifies a lower bound for the upper rank $r_4(A^+(B_n))$. While this lower bound is found to be the $r_4(A^+(B_n))$ for $n \ge 6$, in other cases where $2 \le n \le 5$, the upper rank of $A^+(B_n)$ is still open for investigation.

Discovery of Strange Kinetics in Bulk Material: Correlated Dipoles in CaCu3Ti4O12

Dielectric spectroscopy of CaCu3Ti4O12 was performed spanning broad ranges of temperature (10-300K) and frequency (0.5Hz-2MHz). We attribute the permittivity step-fall to the evolution of Kirkwood-Fröehlich dipole-correlations; reducing the moment-density due to anti-parallel orienting dipoles, with decreasing temperature. Unambiguous sub-Arrhenic dispersion of the associated loss-peak reveals the prime role of strange kinetics; used to describe nonlinearity-governed meso-confined/fractal systems, witnessed here for the first time in a bulk material. Effective energy-scale is seen to follow thermal evolution of the moment density, and the maidenly estimated correlation-length achieves mesoscopic scale below 100K. Temperature dependence of correlations reveals emergence of a new, parallel-dipole-orientation branch below 85K. Novel features observed define a crossover temperature window connecting the single-dipoles regime and the correlated moments. Conciling known results, we suggest a fractal-like self-similar configuration of Ca/Cu-rich sub-phases; resultant heterogeneity endowing CaCu3Ti4O12 its peculiar electrical behaviour.

Fractional Power-Law Spectral Response of CaCu3Ti4O12 Dielectric: Many-Body Effects

Spectral character of dielectric response in CaCu3Ti4O12 across 0.5Hz-4MHz over 45-200K corresponding to neither the Debyean nor the KWW relaxation patterns rather indicates a random-walk like diffusive dynamics of moments. Non-linear relaxation here is due to the many body dipole-interactions, as confirmed by spectral-fits of our measured permittivity to the Dissado-Hill behaviour. Fractional power-laws observed in ε*(ω) macroscopically reflect the fractal microscopic configurations. Below ~100K, the power-law exponent m (n) steeply decreases (increases), indicating finite length-scale collective response of moment-bearing entities. At higher temperatures, m gradually approaches 1 and n falls to low values, reflecting tendency towards the single-particle/Debyean relaxation.
