A Two-Component Dark Matter Model and its Associated Gravitational Waves

We consider an extension of the Standard Model that accounts for the muon $g-2$ tension and neutrino masses and study in detail dark matter phenomenology. The model under consideration includes a WIMP and a FIMP scalar dark matter candidates and thus gives rise to two-component dark matter scenarios. We discuss different regimes and mechanisms of production, including the novel freeze-in semi-production, and show that the WIMP and FIMP together compose the observed relic density today. The presence of the extra scalar fields allows phase transitions of the first order. We examine the evolution of the vacuum state and discuss stochastic gravitational wave signals associated with the first-order phase transition. We show that the gravitational wave signals may be probed by future gravitational wave experiments which may serve as a complementary detection signal.

A two-component vector WIMP -- fermion FIMP dark matter model with an extended seesaw mechanism

We consider an extension of the Standard Model that explains the neutrino masses and has a rich dark matter phenomenology. The model has two dark matter candidates, a vector WIMP and a fermion FIMP, and the sum of their relic densities matches the total dark matter abundance. We extensively study the dark matter production mechanisms and its connection with the neutrino sector, together with various bounds from present and future experiments. The extra scalar field in the model may induce a first-order phase transition in the early Universe. We study the production of stochastic gravitational waves associated with the first-order phase transition. We show that the phase transition can be strong, and thus the model may satisfy one of the necessary conditions for a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Detectability of the phase transition-associated gravitational waves is also discussed.

General Analytical Conditions for Inflaton Fragmentation: Quick and Easy Tests for its Occurrence

Understanding the physics of inflaton condensate fragmentation in the early Universe is crucial as the existence of fragments in the form of non-topological solitons (oscillons or Q-balls) may potentially modify the evolution of the post-inflation Universe. Furthermore, such fragments may evolve into primordial black holes and form dark matter, or emit gravitational waves. Due to the non-perturbative and non-linear nature of the dynamics, most of the studies rely on numerical lattice simulations. Numerical simulations of condensate fragmentation are, however, challenging and, without knowing where to look in the parameter space, they are likely to be time-consuming as well. In this paper, we provide generic analytical conditions for the perturbations of an inflaton condensate to undergo growth to non-linearity in the cases of both symmetric and asymmetric inflaton potentials. We apply the conditions to various inflation models and demonstrate that our results are in good agreement with explicit numerical simulations. Our analytical conditions are easy to use and may be utilised in order to quickly identify models that may undergo fragmentation and determine the conditions under which they do so, which can guide subsequent in-depth numerical analyses.

Non-minimally assisted chaotic inflation

Conventional wisdom says that a chaotic inflation model with a power-law potential is ruled out by the recent Planck-BICEP/Keck results. We find, however, that the model can be assisted by a non-minimally coupled scalar field and still provides a successful inflation. Considering a power-law chaotic inflation model of the type $V\sim φ^n$ with $n=\{2, 4/3, 1, 2/3, 1/3\}$, we show that $n=1/3$ ($n=\{2/3, 1/3\}$) may be revived with the help of the quadratic (quartic) non-minimal coupling of the assistant field to gravity.

Absolutely Robust Controllers for Chemical Reaction Networks

In this work, we design a type of controller that consists of adding a specific set of reactions to an existing mass-action chemical reaction network in order to control a target species. This set of reactions is effective for both deterministic and stochastic networks, in the latter case controlling the mean as well as the variance of the target species. We employ a type of network property called absolute concentration robustness (ACR). We provide applications to the control of a multisite phosphorylation model as well as a receptor-ligand signaling system. For this framework, we use the so-called deficiency zero theorem from chemical reaction network theory as well as multiscaling model reduction methods. We show that the target species has approximately Poisson distribution with the desired mean. We further show that ACR controllers can bring robust perfect adaptation to a target species and are complementary to a recently introduced antithetic feedback controller used for stochastic chemical reactions.

Accuracy of Multiscale Reduction for Stochastic Reaction Systems

Stochastic models of chemical reaction networks are an important tool to describe and analyze noise effects in cell biology. When chemical species and reaction rates in a reaction system have different orders of magnitude, the associated stochastic system is often modeled in a multiscale regime. It is known that multiscale models can be approximated with a reduced system such as mean field dynamics or hybrid systems, but the accuracy of the approximation remains unknown. In this paper, we estimate the probability distribution of low copy species in multiscale stochastic reaction systems under short-time scale. We also establish an error bound for this approximation. Throughout the manuscript, typical mass action systems are mainly handled, but we also show that the main theorem can extended to general kinetics, which generalizes existing results in the literature. Our approach is based on a direct analysis of the Kolmogorov equation, in contrast to classical approaches in the existing literature.

Connecting between inflation and dark matter in models with gauged $Z_3$ symmetry

We investigate the possibility of unifying the inflation and dark matter physics in the minimal model for a complex scalar dark matter with gauged $Z_3$ symmetry. The dark local $U(1)$ symmetry is broken spontaneously into the $Z_3$ symmetry by the dark Higgs mechanism. As compared to dark matter models with $Z_2$ parity, the dark matter cubic self-interaction restricts the inflation with non-minimal couplings to take place beyond the pure dark matter direction and plays an important role in the loop corrections for the inflationary predictions as well as determining the correct dark matter relic density. Considering either of $2\rightarrow 2$, $3\rightarrow 2$ or forbidden channels to be a dominant production mechanism for dark matter, we show the viable parameter space of the model that is consistent with the theoretical and phenomenological constraints combined from inflation and dark matter.

Slack Reactants: A State-Space Truncation Framework to Estimate Quantitative Behavior of the Chemical Master Equation

State space truncation methods are widely used to approximate solutions of the chemical master equation. While most methods of this kind focus on truncating the state space directly, in this work we propose modifying the underlying chemical reaction network by introducing \emph{slack reactants} that indirectly truncate the state space. More specifically, slack reactants introduce an expanded chemical reaction network and impose a truncation scheme based on user defined properties, such as mass-conservation. This network structure allows us to prove inheritance of special properties of the original model, such as irreducibility and complex balancing. We use the network structure imposed by slack reactants to prove the convergence of the stationary distribution and first arrival times. We then provide examples comparing our method with the stationary finite state projection and finite buffer methods. Our slack reactant system appears to be more robust than some competing methods with respect to calculating first arrival times.

Stationary distributions of systems with Discreteness Induced Transitions

We provide a theoretical analysis of some autocatalytic reaction networks exhibiting the phenomenon of discretely induced transitions (DITs). The family of networks that we address includes the celebrated Togashi and Kaneko model. We prove positive recurrence, finiteness of all moments, and geometric ergodicity of the models in the family. For some parameter values, we find the analytic expression for the stationary distribution, and discuss the effect of volume scaling on the stationary behavior of the chain. We find the exact critical value of the volume for which DITs disappear.

Stochastically modeled weakly reversible reaction networks with a single linkage class

It has been known for nearly a decade that deterministically modeled reaction networks that are weakly reversible and consist of a single linkage class have trajectories that are bounded from both above and below by positive constants (so long as the initial condition has strictly positive components). It is conjectured that the stochastically modeled analogs of these systems are positive recurrent. We prove this conjecture in the affirmative under the following additional assumptions: (i) the system is binary and (ii) for each species, there is a complex (vertex in the associated reaction diagram) that is a multiple of that species. To show this result, a new proof technique is developed in which we study the recurrence properties of the $n-$step embedded discrete time Markov chain.

Exploiting higher-order resonant modes for axion haloscopes

The haloscope is one of the most sensitive approaches to the QCD axion physics within the region where the axion is considered to be a dark matter candidate. Current experimental sensitivities, which rely on the lowest fundamental TM010 mode of a cylindrical cavity, are limited to relatively low mass regions. Exploiting higher-order resonant modes would be beneficial because it will enable us to extend the search range with no volume loss and higher quality factors. This approach has been discarded mainly because of the significant degradation of form factor, and difficulty with frequency tuning. Here we introduce a new tuning mechanism concept which both enhances the form factor and yields reasonable frequency tunability. A proof of concept demonstration verified that this design is feasible for high mass axion search experiments.

Leptonic Precision Test of Leptophilic Two-Higgs-Doublet Model

The type X (lepton-specific) two-Higgs-doublet model at large $\tanβ$ becomes leptophilic and thus allows a light pseudoscalar $A$ accommodating the observed muon $g-2$ deviation without conflicting with various hadronic constraints. On the other hand, it is strongly constrained by leptonic precision observables such as lepton universality test in the neutral and charged currents. Treating all the lepton universality data in a consistent way, we show how the current data constrain the parameter space of $m_A$ and $\tanβ$ for given degenerate masses of heavy Higgs bosons $H$ and $H^\pm$. While no overlapping region is found at $1σ$, a sizable region is still viable at $2σ$ for $H/H^\pm$ masses at around 200$\sim$400 GeV.

Multifield dynamics of supersymmetric Higgs inflation in SU(5) GUT

We study the Higgs inflation model realized in the supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory (GUT), focusing on its multifield dynamics and prediction of cosmological observables. The requirement for GUT symmetry breaking during inflation imposes tight constraints on the model parameters. We find, nevertheless, with an appropriately chosen noncanonical Kahler potential the model is in excellent agreement with the present cosmological observation. The effects from multifield dynamics is found to be minor and thus, unlike other similar supersymmetric implementation of nonminimally coupled Higgs inflation, the prediction of this model is robust against multifield ambiguities.

Testing supersymmetric Higgs inflation with non-Gaussianity

We investigate multi-field signatures of the nonminimally coupled supersymmetric Higgs inflation-type cosmological scenario, focusing on the two-field Higgs-lepton inflation model as a concrete example. This type of inflationary model is realized in a theory beyond the Standard Model embedded in supergravity with a noncanonical Kähler potential. We employ the backward $δN$ formalism to compute cosmological observables, including the scalar and tensor power spectra, the spectral indices, the tensor-to-scalar ratio and the local-type nonlinearity parameter. The trajectory of the inflaton is controlled by the initial conditions of the inflaton as well as by the coefficients in the Kähler potential. We analyze the bispectrum of the primordial fluctuations when the inflaton trajectory deviates from a straight line, and obtain constraints on the noncanonical terms of the Kähler potential using the Planck satellite data. Our analysis represents a concrete particle phenomenology-based case study of inflation in which primordial non-Gaussianities can reveal aspects of supergravity.

Two-field inflation with non-minimal coupling

Motivated by the recent `Higgs-inflation' scenario based on a single inflaton field, we consider more generic two-field inflation with non-minimal coupling term. The generic analytic expressions are derived for cosmological observables with the product-separable as well as additive-separable potentials when the non-minimal coupling term is dominated by one of the two fields. A hybrid model of the inflaton potential $V=μ^2 ϕ^2 \left[1+\cos(χ/σ)\right]$ with a non-minimal coupling $K=αϕ$, which guarantees the flatness, is closely examined as a concrete example. Compared to the minimal model with $K=0$, the non-minimal model is shown to provide better fit to the recent cosmological observation by WMAP9 and Planck2013 with the relatively lower field values during the inflationary epoch. Most interestingly, a small value of tensor-to-scalar ratio requires a large non-minimal coupling in our scenario. The model produces non-observably small non-Gaussianity in most of parameter space while a large non-Gaussianity($\sim {\mathcal O}(10)$) is obtainable only when the inflation takes place in a limited field space along the top of the potential.
