Aspects of Sommerfeld Enhancement in the light of Halo gamma-ray excess

We examine Sommerfeld enhancement in dark matter annihilation as a potential origin of the halo-like gamma-ray excess near $E_γ\simeq 20$ GeV reported by Totani. A minimal model with a light CP-even scalar mediator naturally produces a velocity-dependent annihilation cross section consistent with thermal freeze-out, the Milky Way excess, and limits from dwarf spheroidal galaxies.

A comprehensive study of vector leptoquark with $U(1)_{B_3-L_2}$ on the $B$-meson and Muon g-2 anomalies

Recently reported anomalies in various $B$ meson decays and also in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon $(g-2)_μ$ motivate us to consider a particular extension of the standard model incorporating new interactions in lepton and quark sectors simultaneously. Our minimal choice would be leptoquark. In particular, we take vector leptoquark ($U_1$) and comprehensively study all related observables including ${(g-2)_μ},\ R_{K^{(*)}},\ R_{D^{(*)}}$, $B \to (K) \ell \ell' $ where $\ell\ell'$ are various combinations of $μ$ and $τ$, and also lepton flavor violation in the $τ$ decays. We find that a hybrid scenario with additional $U(1)_{B_3-L_2}$ gauge boson provides a common explanation of all these anomalies.

Festina-Lente Bound on Higgs Vacuum Structure and Inflation

The recently suggested Festina-Lente (FL) bound provides a lower bound on the masses of ${\rm U(1)}$ charged particles in terms of the positive vacuum energy. Since the charged particle masses in the Standard Model (SM) are generated by the Higgs mechanism, the FL bound provides a testbed of consistent Higgs potentials in the current dark energy-dominated universe as well as during inflation. We study the implications of the FL bound on the UV behavior of the Higgs potential for a miniscule vacuum energy, as in the current universe. We also present values of the Hubble parameter and the Higgs vacuum expectation value allowed by the FL bound during inflation, which implies that the Higgs cannot stay at the electroweak scale during this epoch.

Non-minimally assisted chaotic inflation

Conventional wisdom says that a chaotic inflation model with a power-law potential is ruled out by the recent Planck-BICEP/Keck results. We find, however, that the model can be assisted by a non-minimally coupled scalar field and still provides a successful inflation. Considering a power-law chaotic inflation model of the type $V\sim φ^n$ with $n=\{2, 4/3, 1, 2/3, 1/3\}$, we show that $n=1/3$ ($n=\{2/3, 1/3\}$) may be revived with the help of the quadratic (quartic) non-minimal coupling of the assistant field to gravity.

Cosmic-Neutrino-Boosted Dark Matter ($ν$BDM)

A novel mechanism of boosting dark matter by cosmic neutrinos is proposed. The new mechanism is so significant that the arriving flux of dark matter in the mass window $1~{\rm keV} \lesssim m_{\rm DM} \lesssim 1~{\rm MeV}$ on Earth can be enhanced by two to four orders of magnitude compared to one only by cosmic electrons. Thereby we firstly derive conservative but still stringent bounds and future sensitivity limits for such cosmic-neutrino-boosted dark matter ($ν$BDM) from advanced underground experiments such as Borexino, PandaX, XENON1T, and JUNO.

Reheating in Models with Non-minimal Coupling in metric and Palatini formalisms

We study reheating of inflationary models with general non-minimal coupling $K(ϕ)R$ with $K(ϕ)\sim \sqrt{V(ϕ)}$ where $R$ is the Ricci scalar and $V$ is the inflaton potential. In particular, when we take the monomial potential $K(ϕ) \propto ϕ^m$ with $m \in \mathbb{Z}_+$, we provide general analytic expressions for cosmological observables. We consider a wide range of non-minimal coupling $ ξ\in [0, \infty) $ in metric and Palatini formalisms and derive the predictions for cosmological observables and the reheating temperature taking a general equation of state parameter $ w_\text{reh} $.

Spontaneous Leptogenesis in Higgs Inflation

We propose a scenario of spontaneous leptogenesis in Higgs inflation with help from two additional operators: the Weinberg operator (Dim 5) and the derivative coupling of the Higgs field and the current of lepton number (Dim 6). The former is responsible for lepton number violation and the latter induces chemical potential for lepton number. The period of rapidly changing Higgs field, naturally realized in Higgs inflation during the reheating, allows large enhancement in the produced asymmetry in lepton number, which is eventually converted into baryon asymmetry of the universe. This scenario is compatible with high reheating temperature of Higgs inflation model.

Beyond the Starobinsky model for inflation

We single out the Starobinsky model and its extensions among generic $f(R)$ gravity as attractors at large field values for chaotic inflation. Treating a $R^3$ curvature term as a perturbation of the Starobinsky model, we impose the phenomenological bounds on the additional term satisfying the successful inflationary predictions. We find that the scalar spectral index can vary in both the red or blue tilted direction, depending on the sign of the coefficient of the $R^3$ term, whereas the tensor-to-scalar ratio is less affected in the Planck-compatible region. We also discuss the role of higher order curvature term for stability and the reheating dynamics for the unambiguous prediction for the number of efoldings up to the $R^3$ term.

Higgs inflation in metric and Palatini formalisms: Required suppression of higher dimensional operators

We investigate the sensitivity of Higgs(-like) inflation to higher dimensional operators in the nonminimal couplings and in the potential, both in the metric and Palatini formalisms. We find that, while inflationary predictions are relatively stable against the higher dimensional operators around the attractor point in the metric formalism, they are extremely sensitive in the Palatini one: for the latter, inflationary predictions are spoiled by $|ξ_4| \gtrsim 10^{-6}$ in the nonminimal couplings $(ξ_2 ϕ^2 + ξ_4 ϕ^4 + \cdots)R$, or by $|λ_6| \gtrsim 10^{-16}$ in the Jordan-frame potential $λ_4 ϕ^4 + λ_6 ϕ^6 + \cdots$ (both in Planck units). This extreme sensitivity results from the absence of attractor in the Palatini formalism. Our study underscores the challenge of realizing inflationary models with the nonminimal coupling in the Palatini formalism.

Light gauge boson interpretation for $(g-2)_μ$ and the $K_L \rightarrow π^0 + \text{(invisible)}$ anomaly at the J-PARC KOTO experiment

We discuss a list of possible light gauge boson interpretations for the long-standing experimental anomaly in $(g-2)_μ$ and also recent anomalous excess in $K_L \rightarrow π^0 + \text{(invisible)}$ events at the J-PARC KOTO experiment. We consider two models: $i$) $L_μ- L_τ$ gauge boson with heavy vector-like quarks and $ii$) $(L_μ- L_τ) + ε(B_3 - L_τ)$ gauge boson in the presence of right-handed neutrinos. When the light gauge boson has mass close to the neutral pion in order to satisfy the Grossman-Nir bound, the models successfully explain the anomalies simultaneously while satisfying all known experimental constraints. We extensively provide the future prospect of suggested models.

On the violent preheating in the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ inflationary model

It has been argued that the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ model acts as the UV extension of the Higgs inflation, pushing up its cut-off scale in the vacuum close up to the Planck scale. In this letter, we study the inflaton oscillation stage after inflation, focusing on the effective mass of the phase direction of the Higgs field, which can cause a violent preheating process. We find that the "spikes" in the effective mass of the phase direction observed in the Higgs inflation still appear in the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ model. While the spikes appear above the cut-off scale in the Higgs-only case, they appear below the cut-off scale when the model is extended with $R^2$ term though reheating cannot be completed in the violent particle production regime since the spikes get milder.

Primordial Black Holes in Higgs-$R^2$ Inflation as a Whole Dark Matter

Primordial black holes are produced in a minimal UV extension to the Higgs inflation with an included $R^2$ term. We show that for parameters consistent with Standard Model measurements and Planck observation results lead to $M_{\rm PBH} \in (10^{-16}, 10^{-15}) M_\odot$ primordial black holes with significant abundance, which may consist the majority of dark matter.

Search for sterile neutrino with light gauge interactions: recasting collider, beam-dump, and neutrino telescope searches

We investigate features of the sterile neutrinos in the presence of a light gauge boson $X^μ$ that couples to the neutrino sector. The novel bounds on the active-sterile neutrino mixings $| U_{\ell 4} |^2$, especially for tau flavor ($l = τ$), from various collider and fixed target experiments are explored. Also, taking into account the additional decay channel of the sterile neutrino into a light gauge boson ($ν_4 \to ν_\ell e^+ e^-$), we explore and constrain a parameter space for low energy excess in neutrino oscillation experiments.

Timing information at HL-LHC: Complete determination of masses of Dark Matter and Long lived particle

A long standing problem in kinematics at the hadron colliders is to determine the mass of invisible particles. This issue is particularly important for the signals of dark matter, which becomes one of the prominent targets of future collider experiments. In this paper, we show that the additional information from the precise timing measurement, which will be available at the planned high-liminosity run of the LHC (HL-LHC), will shade new light on the kinematics study. As a concrete example, we focus on the signal of the pair produced long-lived particles ($LLP_{1,2}$), respectively leaving displaced vertex with visible ($V_{1,2}$) and invisible ($I_{1,2}$) final state, $pp \to LLP_1+LLP_2 \to (V_1+I_1)+(V_2+I_2)$. We explicitly show that this system is completely solvable with timing information.

Galactic center GeV gamma-ray excess from dark matter with gauged lepton numbers

The recently observed excess in gamma-ray signal near the Galactic center suggests that dark matter particles may annihilate into charged fermions that produce gamma-ray to be observed. In this paper, we consider a leptonic dark matter, which annihilates into the standard model leptons, $μ^+ μ^-$ and $τ^+ τ^-$, by the interaction of the gauged lepton number ${\rm U(1)}_{L_μ-L_τ}$ and fits the observed excess. Interestingly, the necessary annihilation cross section for the observed gamma-ray flux provides a good fit to the value for the relic abundance of dark matter. We identify the preferred parameter space of the model after taking the existing experimental constraints from the precision measurements including the muon $(g-2)$, tau decay, neutrino trident production, dark matter direct detection, LHC, and LEP experiments.

Indirect signature of dark matter with the diphoton resonance at 750 GeV

Motivated by the recently reported diphoton resonance at 750 GeV, we study a new axion-like bosonic portal model of dark matter physics. When the resonance particle is identified as the pseudo-scalar mediator, via which the standard model sector would interact with the dark matter sector, the data from collider physics would provide profound implications to dark matter phenomenology. In this paper, we first identify the preferred parameter space of the suggested portal model from the results of the LHC run with $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, and then we examine the dark matter signature taking into account the data from cosmic-ray experiments including Fermi-LAT dwarf galaxy $γ$-ray search, HESS $γ$-line search, and future CTA diffuse $γ$-ray and $γ$-line searches.

Investigating the jet activity accompanying the production at the LHC of a massive scalar particle decaying into photons

We study the jet activity that accompanies the production by gluon fusion of a new physics scalar particle decaying into photons at the LHC. In the considered scenarios, both the production and decay mechanisms are governed by loop-induced interactions involving a heavy colored state. We show that the presence of large new physics contributions to the inclusive diphoton invariant-mass spectrum always implies a significant production rate of non-standard diphoton events containing extra hard jets. We investigate the existence of possible handles that could provide a way to obtain information on the underlying physics behind the scalar resonance, and this in a wide mass window.

LHC 750 GeV Diphoton excess in a radiative seesaw model

We investigate a possibility for explaining the recently announced 750\,GeV diphoton excess by the ATLAS and the CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in a model with multiple doubly charged particles, which was originally suggested for explaining tiny neutrino masses through a three-loop effect in a natural way. The enhanced radiatively generated effective coupling of a new singlet scalar $S$ with diphoton with multiple charged particles in the loop enlarges the production rate of $S$ in $pp\to S+X$ via photon fusion process and also the decay width $Γ(S\to γγ)$ even without assuming a tree level production mechanism. We provide detailed analysis on the cases with or without allowing the mixing between $S$ and the standard model Higgs doublet.

Diboson Excesses Demystified in Effective Field Theory Approach

We study the collider implication of a neutral resonance which decays to several diboson final states such as $W^+W^-$, $ZZ$, and $Zγ$ via a minimal set of effective operators. We consider both CP-even and CP-odd bosonic states with spin 0, 1, or 2. The production cross sections for the bosonic resonance states are obtained with the effective operators involving gluons (and quarks), and the branching fractions are obtained with the operators responsible for the interactions with electroweak gauge bosons. We demonstrate that each scenario allows for a broad parameter space which could accommodate the recently-reported intriguing excesses in the ATLAS diboson final states, and discuss how the CP states and spin information of the resonance can be extracted at the LHC run II.

Higgs inflation from Standard Model criticality

The observed Higgs mass $M_H=125.9\pm0.4$GeV leads to the criticality of the Standard Model, that is, the Higgs potential becomes flat around the scale $10^{17\text{--}18}$GeV for the top mass $171.3$GeV. Earlier we have proposed a Higgs inflation scenario in which this criticality plays a crucial role. In this paper, we investigate detailed cosmological predictions of this scenario in light of the latest Planck and BICEP2 results. We find that this scenario can be consistent with the constraint from the running index too. We also compute the Higgs one-loop effective potential including the Higgs portal scalar dark matter, with the two-loop renormalization group equations and find a constraint on the coupling between Higgs and dark matter depending on the inflationary parameters.

Superheavy dark matter and IceCube neutrino signals:bounds on decaying dark matter

Superheavy dark matter may show its presence in high energy neutrino signals detected on earth. From the latest results of IceCube, we could set the strongest lower bound on the lifetime of dark matter beyond 100 TeV around $10^{28} {\rm sec}$. The excess around a PeV is noticed and may be interpreted as the first signal of DM even though further confirmation and dedicated searches are invited.

Cluster X-ray line at $3.5\,{\rm keV}$ from axion-like dark matter

The recently reported X-ray line signal at $E_γ\simeq 3.5\, {\rm keV}$ from a stacked spectrum of various galaxy clusters and the Andromeda galaxy may be originating from a decaying dark matter particle of the mass $2 E_γ$. A light axion-like scalar is suggested as a natural candidate for dark matter and its production mechanisms are closely examined. We show that the right amount of axion relic density with the preferred parameters, $m_a \simeq 7 \,{\rm keV}$ and $f_a \simeq 4\times 10^{14}\, {\rm GeV}$, can be naturally obtainable from the decay of inflaton. If the axions were produced from the saxion decay, it could not have constituted the total relic density due to the bound from structure formation. Nonetheless, the saxion decay is an interesting possibility, because the $3.5\, {\rm keV}$ line and dark radiation can be addressed simultaneously, being consistent with the Planck data. Small misalignment angles of the axion, ranging between $θ_a\sim 10^{-4} -10^{-1}$ depending on the reheating temperature, can also be the source of axion production. The model with axion misalignment can satisfy the constraints for structure formation and iso-curvature perturbation.

Higgs inflation still alive

The observed value of the Higgs mass indicates that the Higgs potential becomes small and flat at the scale around $10^{17}$GeV. Having this fact in mind, we reconsider the Higgs inflation scenario proposed by Bezrukov and Shaposhnikov. It turns out that the non-minimal coupling $ξ$ of the Higgs-squared to the Ricci scalar can be smaller than ten. For example, $ξ=7$ corresponds to the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r\simeq0.2$, which is consistent with the recent observation by BICEP2.

Model-Independent Production of a Top-Philic Resonance at the LHC

We investigate the collider phenomenology of a color-singlet vector resonance, which couples to the heaviest quarks, the top quarks, but very weakly to the rest of the fermions in the Standard Model. We find that the dominant production of such a resonance does not appear at the tree level -- it rather occurs at the one-loop level in association with an extra jet. Signatures like t anti-t plus jets readily emerge as a result of the subsequent decay of the resonance into a pair of top quarks. Without the additional jet, the resonance can still be produced off-shell, which gives a sizeable contribution at low masses. The lower top quark multiplicity of the loop induced resonance production facilitates its reconstruction as compared to the tree level production that gives rise to more exotic signatures involving three or even four top quarks in the final state. For all these cases, we discuss the constraints on the resonance production stemming from recent experimental measurements in the top quark sector. We find that the top-philic vector resonance remains largely unconstrained for the majority of the parameter space, although this will be scrutinized closely in the Run 2 phase of the LHC.

Stop and Sbottom LSP with R-parity Violation

Considering a third-generation squark as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), we investigate R-parity violating collider signatures with bilinear LH or trilinear LQD operators that may contribute to observed neutrino masses and mixings. Reinterpreting the LHC 7+8 TeV results of SUSY and leptoquark searches, we find that third-generation squark LSPs decaying to first- or second-generation leptons are generally excluded up to at least about 660 GeV at 95%C.L.. One notable feature of many models is that sbottoms can decay to top quarks and charged leptons that lead to a broader invariant mass spectrum and weaker collider constraints. More dedicated searches with $b$-taggings or top reconstructions are thus encouraged. Finally, we discuss that the recently observed excesses in the CMS leptoquark search can be accommodated by the decay of sbottom LSPs in the LQD$_{113+131}$ model.

Superheavy Dark Matter in Light of Dark Radiation

Superheavy dark matter can satisfy the observed dark matter abundance if the stability condition is fulfilled. Here, we propose a new Abelian gauge symmetry ${\rm U(1)}_H$ for the stability of superheavy dark matter as the electromagnetic gauge symmetry to the electron. The new gauge boson associated with ${\rm U(1)}_H$ contributes to the effective number of relativistic degrees of freedom in the universe as dark radiation, which has been recently measured by several experiments, e.g., PLANCK. We calculate the contribution to dark radiation from the decay of a scalar particle via the superheavy dark matter in the loop. Interestingly enough, this scenario will be probed by a future LHC run in the invisible decay signatures of the Higgs boson.

Two Higgs doublet models for the LHC Higgs boson data at $\sqrt{s}=$ 7 and 8 TeV

Updated LHC data on the new 126 GeV boson during the 7 and 8 TeV runnings strengthen the standard model Higgs boson interpretation further. Through the global $χ^2$ analysis, we investigate whether the new particle could be one of the scalar particles in two Higgs doublet models. Four types (Type I, II, X and Y) are comprehensively studied. Taking the recent analysis on the spin-parity of the new boson, we consider two scenarios: the new boson is either the light CP-even one ($h^0$) or the heavy CP-even one ($H^0$). It is found that both scenarios are consistent with the new data, not only in the parameter regions near the decoupling limit but also in other regions far from the decoupling limit. In addition, the current data are compatible with the possibility that the light Higgs boson $h^0$ is hidden in the mass window of 90-100 GeV. The diphoton or $ττ$ channel can provide a probe of this possibility by the enhanced signal rates.

Two-field inflation with non-minimal coupling

Motivated by the recent `Higgs-inflation' scenario based on a single inflaton field, we consider more generic two-field inflation with non-minimal coupling term. The generic analytic expressions are derived for cosmological observables with the product-separable as well as additive-separable potentials when the non-minimal coupling term is dominated by one of the two fields. A hybrid model of the inflaton potential $V=μ^2 ϕ^2 \left[1+\cos(χ/σ)\right]$ with a non-minimal coupling $K=αϕ$, which guarantees the flatness, is closely examined as a concrete example. Compared to the minimal model with $K=0$, the non-minimal model is shown to provide better fit to the recent cosmological observation by WMAP9 and Planck2013 with the relatively lower field values during the inflationary epoch. Most interestingly, a small value of tensor-to-scalar ratio requires a large non-minimal coupling in our scenario. The model produces non-observably small non-Gaussianity in most of parameter space while a large non-Gaussianity($\sim {\mathcal O}(10)$) is obtainable only when the inflation takes place in a limited field space along the top of the potential.

126 GeV Higgs in Next-to-Minimal Universal Extra Dimensions

Discovery of a Higgs boson and precise measurements of its properties open a new window to test physics beyond the standard model. Models with Universal Extra Dimensions are not exception. Kaluza-Klein excitations of the standard model particles contribute to the production and decay of the Higgs boson. In particular, the parameters associated with third generation quarks are constrained by Higgs data, which are relatively insensitive to other searches often involving light quarks and leptons. We investigate implications of the 126 GeV Higgs in Next-to-Minimal Universal Extra Dimensions, and show that boundary terms and bulk masses allow a lower compactification scale as compared to in Minimal Universal Extra Dimensions.

A testable scenario of WIMPZILLA with Dark Radiation

As the electromagnetic gauge symmetry makes the electron stable, a new abelian gauge symmetry may be responsible for the stability of superheavy dark matter. The gauge boson associated with the new gauge symmetry naturally plays the role of dark radiation and contributes to the effective number of `neutrino species', which has been recently measured by Planck. We estimate the contribution of dark radiation from the radiative decay of a scalar particle induced by the WIMPZILLA in the loop. The scalar particle may affect the invisible decay of the Higgs boson by the Higgs portal type coupling.

Dilepton + jet signature of Split-UED at the LHC

We study the signature of dilepton and a hard jet ($\ell^+\ell^-j$) via heavy new gauge boson production in split universal extra dimension scenario where the Kaluza-Klein parity is conserved but the Kaluza-Klein number is not. A hard cut to the jet energy effectively removes virtually all possible backgrounds and provides a handle to search of new physics involving new neutral heavy states as the Kaluza-Klein $Z$ boson. The signature can be more generically used in search of other new states such as graviton and radion in warped extra dimension models.

We provide a comprehensive analysis for a general UED model, including Kaluza-Klein mass spectra, their interactions with the SM particles, and constraints from LHC, electroweak tests, and dark matter experiments. Black holes and the LHC: A review

In low-scale gravity models, a particle collider with trans-Planckian collision energies can be an ideal place for producing black holes because a large amount of energy can be concentrated at the collision point, which can ultimately lead to black hole formation. In this article, the theoretical foundation for microscopic higher dimensional black holes is reviewed and the possible production and detection at the LHC is described and critically examined.

Bounds on the Fermion-Bulk Masses in Models with Universal Extra Dimensions

In models with extra dimensions, vectorlike Dirac masses for fermion fields are generically allowed. These masses are independent of electroweak symmetry breaking and do not contribute to the known masses for the quarks and leptons. They control the profile of the bulk wave functions, the mass spectra of Kaluza-Klein modes, and interactions that could be tested in experiments. In this article, we study the effects of bulk masses in electroweak precision measurements and in dark matter and collider searches, to set bounds on the bulk mass parameters in models with a flat universal extra dimension, namely, Split-UED. We find the current bound on the universal bulk-mass to be smaller than (0.2-0.3)/R, where R is the radius of the extra dimension. Similar but slightly relaxed bounds are obtained in the non-universal bulk mass case. The LHC is expected to play an important role in constraining the remaining parameter space.

Comprehensive study of two Higgs doublet model in light of the new boson with mass around 125 GeV

The recent discovery of a new boson of mass roughly 125 GeV has been reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. Although its signals in various decay modes resemble those of the standard model (SM) Higgs boson, observed are the combinations of entangled information about the production, decay rates and total decay width of the new boson. In addition, some decay channels show non-negligible deviation from the SM expectation, such as the $2σ$ excess in the diphoton channel. In the four types (I, II, X and Y) of two Higgs doublet models, we perform the global $χ^2$ fit in three scenarios: (i) the new boson is the light CP-even Higgs boson $h^0$; (ii) it is the heavy CP-even Higgs boson $H^0$; (iii) the signals are from degenerate $h^0$ and the pseudoscalar $A^0$. Considering other phenomenological constraints such as flavor physics, electroweak precision data, and the LEP search for the Higgs boson, we find that the the first scenarios in Type II and Type Y models actually provide better or similarly good fit to the data than the SM. All the other models are excluded at 95% C.L..

NR/HEP: roadmap for the future

Physics in curved spacetime describes a multitude of phenomena, ranging from astrophysics to high energy physics. The last few years have witnessed further progress on several fronts, including the accurate numerical evolution of the gravitational field equations, which now allows highly nonlinear phenomena to be tamed. Numerical relativity simulations, originally developed to understand strong field astrophysical processes, could prove extremely useful to understand high-energy physics processes like trans-Planckian scattering and gauge-gravity dualities. We present a concise and comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art and important open problems in the field(s), along with guidelines for the next years. This writeup is a summary of the "NR/HEP Workshop" held in Madeira, Portugal from August 31st to September 3rd 2011.

Radiatively decaying scalar dark matter through U(1) mixings and the Fermi 130 GeV gamma-ray line

In light of the recent observation of the Fermi-LAT 130 GeV gamma-ray line, we suggest a model of scalar dark matter in hidden sector, which can decay into two (hidden) photons. The process is radiatively induced by a GUT scale fermion in the loop, which is charged under a hidden sector U(1), and the kinetic mixing ($\sim εF^{μν}F'_{μν}$) enables us to fit the required decay width for the Fermi-LAT peak. The model does not allow any dangerous decay channels into light standard model particles.

Critical comment on the recent microscopic black hole search at the LHC

Recently the CMS collaboration at the LHC reported "the first direct limit on black hole production at a particle accelerator" using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35/pb of pp-collision at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV. Even though the result has a strong impact on future searches, the interpretation lacks enough theoretical support. In this letter, we show that the parameter range which was considered by the CMS collaboration is actually out of the validity range of semi-classical black hole picture so that the Monte-Carlo simulation result which was crucially used in the analysis still needs further solid scientific basis.

Ghost condensation and CPT violation in neutrino sector

We consider CPT violation in neutrino sector, which is induced by ghost condensation. A model with extra dimension is suggested where ghost condensation occurs at a distant location separated from the SM brane. Right handed neutrinos in the bulk, which are originally introduced to explain small Yukawa couplings, play the role of messenger fields communicating ghost condensation and the standard model sector and lead to a sizable CPT violation in neutrino sector at the leading order. The model provides a resolution to the recent MINOS anomaly without spoiling any experimental constraints and may be able to be tested by observing an interesting phenomenon, twinkling cosmic microwave background radiation, with timescale about O(10-100) minutes at future CMB observations e.g. Planck.

Hyperbolic Inflation

We propose a natural scenario for the cosmological inflation with the non-minimal coupling term invoking compact hyperbolic extra dimensions. Thanks to the unique mathematical properties of compact hyperbolic space, the large volume of extra dimensions, which provides a natural understanding of the proper size of couplings, does not necessarily accompany with the low Kaluza-Klein scale so that the model allows a single field inflation with a scale around $10^{13}$ GeV. The model fulfills all the observed data and predicts a sizable gravitational perturbation, r~0.003.

Inverse seesaw in supersymmetry

We study a mechanism where tiny neutrino masses arise only from radiative contribution in a supersymmetric model. In each generation, the tree-level light neutrino mass is rotated away by introducing a second SM singlet $s_{L}$ that forms a Dirac mass term with the right-handed neutrino $n_{R}$. Even with non-zero Majorana neutrino mass for the right-handed neutrinos $M_{R} \bar{n^{c}_{R}} n_{R}$, the lightest neutrino remains massless at tree level due to an approximate symmetry as $U(1)_{ν-s}$. Holomorphic feature of superpotential ensures that the Majorana neutrino masses $M_{R} \bar{n^{c}_{R}} n_{R}$ and $M^{*}_{R} \bar{s^{c}_{L}} s_{L}$ are not generated simultaneously. However, the $U(1)_{ν-s}$ is not respected by the SM gauge interactions or interaction with Higgs. Consequently, tiny neutrino masses arise from radiative contributions. It is also shown that the right-handed neutrino Majorana mass $M_{R}$ can be at $\cal O$(KeV) to obtain the proper light neutrino mass.

5D UED: Flat and Flavorless

5D UED is not automatically minimally flavor violating. This is due to flavor asymmetric counter-terms required on the branes. Additionally, there are likely to be higher dimensional operators which directly contribute to flavor observables. We document a mostly unsuccessful attempt at utilizing localization in a flat extra dimension to resolve these flavor constraints while maintaining KK-parity as a good quantum number. It is unsuccessful insofar as we seem to be forced to add brane operators in such a way as to precisely mimic the effects of a double throat warped extra dimension. In the course of our efforts, we encounter and present solutions to a problem common to many extra dimensional models in which fields are "doubly localized:" ultra-light modes. Under scrutiny, this issue seems tied to an intrinsic tension between maintaining Kaluza-Klein parity and resolving mass hierarchies via localization.

A vector-like fourth generation with a discrete symmetry from Split-UED

Split-UED allows for the possibility that the lowest lying KK excitations of the Standard Model fermions can be much lighter than the corresponding gauge or Higgs KK states. This can happen provided the fermion bulk masses are chosen to be large, in units of the inverse compactification radius, 1/R, and negative. In this setup, all of the other KK states would be effectively decoupled from low energy physics. Such a scenario would then lead to an apparent vector-like fourth generation with an associated discrete symmetry that allows us to accommodate a dark matter candidate. In this paper the rather unique phenomenology presented by this picture will be examined.

Collider Phenomenology with Split-UED

We investigate the collider implications of Split Universal Extra Dimensions. The non-vanishing fermion mass in the bulk, which is consistent with the KK-parity, largely modifies the phenomenology of Minimal Universal Exta Dimensions. We scrutinize the behavior of couplings and study the discovery reach of the Tevatron and the LHC for level-2 Kaluza-Klein modes in the dilepton channel, which would indicates the presence of the extra dimensions. Observation of large event rates for dilepton resonances can result from a nontrivial fermion mass profile along the extra dimensions, which, in turn, may corroborate extra dimensional explanation for the observation of the positron excess in cosmic rays.

Invisible Higgs decay with B\to Kν\barν constraint

If the Higgs boson were the only particle within the LHC accessible range, precision measurement of the Higgs's properties would play a unique role in studying electroweak symmetry breaking as well as possible new physics. We try to use low energy experiments such as rare B decay to constrain a challenging decay mode of Higgs, in which a Higgs decays to a pair of light (\approx 1 \sim 2 GeV) SM singlet S and becomes invisible. By using the current experimental bound of rare decay B\to Kν\barν and computing the contribution of B\to K SS to (the) B\to K+\cancel{E}, we obtain an upper bound on the Higgs coupling to such light singlet. It is interesting that the partial width of the invisible decay mode h\to SS by taking the upper bound value of coupling is at a comparable level with h\to WW/ZZ or WW^(*) decay modes, making the Higgs identifiable but with a different predicted decay BR from the standard model Higgs decay. It will then have an impact on precision measurement of the Higgs's properties. We also study the implication for cosmology from such a light singlet and propose a solution to the potential problem.

TeV scale horizontal gauge symmetry and its implications in B-physics

We propose a gauged $U(1)_{H}$ horizontal symmetry around TeV scale that is a subgroup of a $SU(3)_{H}$ horizontal gauge symmetry broken at ${\cal O}(10^{14}) \GeV$. The breaking generates right-handed Majorana neutrino masses through a $SU(3)_H$ sextet scalar. A particular Majorana right-handed neutrino mass matrix explicitly determines the remnant $U(1)_{H}$ at low energy which only couples to $b-s$ and $μ-τ$ in the gauge eigenstate. The dangerous $K-\bar{K}$, $D-\bar{D}$ mixing and $B_s \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ are kept to be safe because the relevant couplings are suppressed through high powers of small mixing angles in the fermion rotation matrix. Our analysis which applies to the general case shows that the Tevatron di-muon anomaly can be explained through the $B_{s}$ and $B_{d}$ mixing while keeping all the other experimental constraints within 90 \% C. L. For the $B$ meson decay, the $B_{s}\to μ^{\pm}τ^{\mp}$ is the leading leptonic decay channel which is several orders of magnitude below current experimental bound.

Dark matter and collider phenomenology of split-UED

We explicitly show that split-universal extra dimension (split-UED), a recently suggested extension of universal extra dimension (UED) model, can nicely explain recent anomalies in cosmic-ray positrons and electrons observed by PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS. Kaluza-Klein (KK) dark matters mainly annihilate into leptons because the hadronic branching fraction is highly suppressed by large KK quark masses and the antiproton flux agrees very well with the observation where no excess is found . The flux of cosmic gamma-rays from pion decay is also highly suppressed and hardly detected in low energy region (E<20 GeV). Collider signatures of colored KK particles at the LHC, especially q_1 q_1 production, are studied in detail. Due to the large split in masses of KK quarks and other particles, hard p_T jets and missing E_T are generated, which make it possible to suppress the standard model background and discover the signals.

Dark Matter and Collider Physics in Split-UED

Kaluza-Klein dark matter is an attractive weakly interacting massive particle in universal extra dimension model. In the recent extension "split-UED", annihilation of Kaluza-Klein dark matter with a mass range 600-1000 GeV provides excellent fits to the recently observed excesses in cosmic electron and positron fluxes of Pamela, ATIC and Fermi-LAT experiments. The cosmic gamma-ray flux in the same process can be significant around 300 GeV, thus can be observed or constrained by the forthcoming Fermi-LAT diffuse gamma-ray data. The collider signal at the LHC is the resonance in the dijets channels and the large missing energy in the missing energy plus jets.

Neutrino mass from a hidden world and its phenomenological implications

We propose a model of neutrino mass generation in extra dimension. Allowing a large lepton number violation on a distant brane spatially separated from the standard model brane, a small neutrino mass is naturally generated due to an exponential suppression of the messenger field in the 5D bulk. The model accommodates a large Yukawa coupling with the singlet neutrino (n_R) which may change the standard Higgs search and can simultaneously accommodate visible lepton number violation at the electroweak scale, which leads to very interesting phenomenology at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

Split-UED and Dark Matter

Motivated by the recent observation of the high energy electron and positron excesses in cosmic ray by PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS, we suggest an anomaly-free scenario for the universal extra dimension that localizes the SM quarks and splits the spectrum of KK quarks from KK leptons. When the SM quarks are "well localized" at the boundaries, the most stringent bound of the model ($1/R > 510$ GeV) comes from the resonance search for the Tevatron dijet channels. Even at the early stage of LHC, one can discover the second KK gluon for masses up to 4 TeV.

Implication of Brane fluctuations to indirect collider signals

We study the effect of brane fluctuation on the indirect signals of high energy colliders. Brane fluctuation could act as a regulator of divergent expression of infinite tower of Kaluza-Klein graviton effects. The phenomenological parameter $λ$, introduced by Hewett, is shown to be determined in our setting, and its dramatic behaviors depending on the $D=4+δ$ dimensional gravitation scale $M_D$, `softening parameter' $Δ$, and $\sqrt{s}$ of collider are presented. The present exclusion bounds from the processes $e^+e^-\to γγ$ and $p\bar{p}\to e^+ e^-, γγ(γ)$ are considered within the parameter space $(M_D, Δ)$ with respect to the number of extra dimensions.

Rotating black holes at future colliders: Greybody factors for brane fields

We study theoretical aspects of the rotating black hole production and evaporation in the extra dimension scenarios with TeV scale gravity, within the mass range in which the higher dimensional Kerr solution provides good description. We evaluate the production cross section of black holes taking their angular momenta into account. We find that it becomes larger than the Schwarzschild radius squared, which is conventionally utilized in literature, and our result nicely agrees with the recent numerical study by Yoshino and Nambu within a few percent error for higher dimensional case. In the same approximation to obtain the above result, we find that the production cross section becomes larger for the black hole with larger angular momentum. Second, we derive the generalized Teukolsky equation for spin 0, 1/2 and 1 brane fields in the higher dimensional Kerr geometry and explicitly show that it is separable in any dimensions. For five-dimensional (Randall-Sundrum) black hole, we obtain analytic formulae for the greybody factors in low frequency expansion and we present the power spectra of the Hawking radiation as well as their angular dependence. Phenomenological implications of our result are briefly sketched.

Testing Higgs Triplet Model and Neutrino Mass Patterns

The observed neutrino oscillation data might be explained by new physics at a TeV scale, which is testable in the future experiments. Among various possibilities, the low-energy Higgs triplet model is a prime candidate of such new physics since it predicts clean signatures of lepton flavor violating processes directly related to the neutrino masses and mixing. It is discussed how various neutrino mass patterns can be discriminated by examining the lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons as well as the collider signatures of a doubly charged Higgs boson in the model.

Production of Spinning Black Holes at colliders

When the Planck scale is as low as TeV scale, there will be chances to produce Black holes (BH's) at future colliders. Generally, BH's produced via pariticle collisions could have non-zero angular momentum. We estimate the production cross section of spinning and non-spinning BH's for future colliders. Although the production cross section for the rotating BH is much suppressed by angular momentum dependent factor, the total cross section could be $\sim 2 -3$ times enhanced for the case of $δ=4-6$.

Neutralino-Nucleus Elastic Cross Section in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Explicit CP Violation

We study the elastic scattering of the lightest neutralino with a nucleus in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with explicit flavor preserving CP violation, including the one-loop CP-violating neutral Higgs-boson mixing effects induced dominantly by the CP phases in the top and bottom (s)quark sectors. We construct the most general form of the effective Lagrangian for the neutralino-nucleus scattering in the limit of vanishing momentum transfers and then we perform a comprehensive analysis of the effects of the complex CP phases on the mass spectra of the lightest neutralino, neutral Higgs bosons and top squarks, and on the the spin-dependent and spin-independent neutralino-nucleus scattering cross section for three neucleus targets F, Si and Ge. The CP phases can reduce or enhance the neutralino-nucleus cross sections significantly, depending on the values of the real parameters in the MSSM.

Probing Z' gauge boson with the spin configuration of top quark pair production at future $e^- e^+$ linear colliders

We explore the effects of extra neutral gauge boson involved in the supersymmetric E6 model on the spin configuration of the top quark pair produced at the polarized e- e+ collider. Generic mixing terms are considered including kinetic mixing terms as well as mass mixing. In the off-diagonal spin basis of the standard model, we show that the cross sections for the suppressed spin configurations can be enhanced with the effects of the Z' boson through the modification of the spin configuration of produced top quark pair enough to be measured in the Linear Colliders, which provides the way to observe the effects of Z' boson and discriminate the pattern of gauge group decomposition. It is pointed out that the kinetic mixing may dilute the effects of mass mixing terms, and we have to perform the combined analysis.
