Bound on optimal local discrimination of multipartite quantum states

We consider the unambiguous discrimination of multipartite quantum states and provide an upper bound for the maximum success probability of optimal local discrimination. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition to realize the upper bound. We further establish a necessary and sufficient condition for this upper bound to be saturated. Finally, we illustrate our results using examples in multidimensional multipartite quantum systems.

Annihilating and creating nonlocality without entanglement by postmeasurement information

Nonlocality without entanglement (NLWE) is a nonlocal quantum phenomenon that arises in separable state discrimination. We show that the availability of the postmeasurement information about the prepared subensemble can affect the occurrence of NLWE in discriminating nonorthogonal nonentangled states. We provide a two-qubit state ensemble consisting of four nonorthogonal separable pure states and show that the postmeasurement information about the prepared subensemble can annihilate NLWE. We also provide another two-qubit state ensemble consisting of four nonorthogonal separable states and show that the postmeasurement information can create NLWE. Our result can provide a useful method to share or hide information using nonorthogonal separable states.

Atomic indirect measurement and robust binary quantum communication under phase-diffusion noise

It was known that a novel quantum communication protocol surpassing the shot noise limit can be proposed by an atomic indirect measurement based on the Jaynes-Cummings model. Moreover, the quantum communication with the atomic indirect measurement can nearly achieve the Helstrom bound as well as the accessible information when message is transmitted by an ideal coherent state. Here, we show that the atomic indirect measurement is robust against the phase-diffusion noise. By considering the error probability of discriminating received signal, we show that the atomic indirect measurement can also nearly achieve the Helstrom bound as well as the accessible information even the channel is exposed to the phase-diffused noise. Moreover, we further show that atomic indirect measurement outperforms the feedback-excluded receiver composed of a photon number resolving detector and maximum-a-posteriori decision rule when the standard deviation of the phase-diffusion channel is not too large.

Bound on local minimum-error discrimination of bipartite quantum states

We consider the optimal discrimination of bipartite quantum states and provide an upper bound for the maximum success probability of optimal local discrimination. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a measurement to realize the upper bound. We further establish a necessary and sufficient condition for this upper bound to be saturated. Finally, we illustrate our results using an example.

Locking and unlocking of quantum nonlocality without entanglement in local discrimination of quantum states

The phenomenon of nonlocality without entanglement(NLWE) arises in discriminating multi-party quantum separable states. Recently, it has been found that the post-measurement information about the prepared subensemble can lock or unlock NLWE in minimum-error discrimination of non-orthogonal separable states. Thus, it is natural to ask whether the availability of the post-measurement information can influence on the occurrence of NLWE even in other state-discrimination strategies. Here, we show that the post-measurement information can be used to lock as well as unlock the occurrence of NLWE in terms of optimal unambiguous discrimination. Our results can provide a useful application for hiding or sharing information based on non-orthogonal separable states.

Qubit State Discrimination using Post-measurement Information

We consider the optimal discrimination of nonorthogonal qubit states with post-measurement information and provide an analytic structure of the optimal measurements. We also show that there is always a null optimal measurement when post-measurement information is given. Further, in discriminating four states using post-measurement information, we analytically provide the optimal probability of correct guessing and show that the uniqueness of optimal measurement is equivalent to the non-existence of non-null optimal measurement with post-measurement information.

Enhanced Optimal Quantum Communication by Generalized Phase Shift Keying Coherent Signal

It is well known that the maximal success probability of the binary quantum communication can be improved by using a sub-Poissonian non-standard coherent state as an information carrier. In the present article, we consider the quantum communication with $N$-ary phase shift keying ($N$-PSK) signal for an arbitrary positive integer $N>1$. By using non-standard coherent state, we analytically provide the maximal success probability of the quantum communication with $N$-PSK. Unlike the binary case, we show that even super-Poissonianity of non-standard coherent state can improve the maximal success probability of $N$-PSK quantum communication.

Entanglement of formation and monogamy of multi-party quantum entanglement

We provide a sufficient condition for the monogamy inequality of multi-party quantum entanglement of arbitrary dimensions in terms of entanglement of formation. Based on the classical-classical-quantum(ccq) states whose quantum parts are obtained from the two-party reduced density matrices of a three-party quantum state, we show the additivity of the mutual information of the ccq states guarantees the monogamy inequality of the three-party pure state in terms of EoF. After illustrating the result with some examples, we generalize our result of three-party systems into any multi-party systems of arbitrary dimensions.

Indirect Measurement for Optimal Quantum Communication Enhanced by Binary Non-standard Coherent States

It is well known that the Helstrom bound can be improved by generalizing the form of a coherent state. Thus, designing a quantum measurement achieving the improved Helstrom bound is important for novel quantum communication. In the present article, we analytically show that the improved Helstrom bound can be achieved by a projective measurement composed of orthogonal non-standard Schrödinger cat states. Moreover, we numerically show that the improved Helstrom bound can be nearly achieved by an indirect measurement based on the Jaynes-Cummings model. As the Jaynes-Cummings model describes an interaction between a light and a two-level atom, we emphasize that the indirect measurement considered in this article has potential to be experimentally implemented.

Strong polygamy of multi-party $q$-expected quantum correlations

We show that the polygamous nature of multi-party quantum correlations can be characterized in a {\em stronger} form based on Tsallis $q$-entropy and $q$-expectation value. By considering the amount of entanglement that can be distributed in multi-party systems, we establish a class of strong polygamy inequalities of multi-party entanglement in terms of Tsallis $q$-entropy and $q$-expectation for $q \geq 1$. Our new class of inequalities is in fact tighter than the usual polygamy inequalities of multi-party entanglement, and the tightness is explicitly illustrated by an example. Moreover, our new class of inequalities is concerned with the $q$-expected entanglement distributed between a single party and any possible subsets of the rest parties whereas the usual polygamy inequality only considers the entanglement between a single party and another. We further establish the equivalence between strong polygamy inequalities of quantum entanglement and quantum discord distributed in multi-party quantum systems.

Holevo Capacity of Discrete Weyl Channels

Holevo capacity is the maximum rate at which a quantum channel can reliably transmit classical information without entanglement. However, calculating the Holevo capacity of arbitrary quantum channels is a nontrivial and computationally expensive task since it requires the numerical optimization over all possible input quantum states. In this paper, we consider discrete Weyl channels (DWCs) and exploit their symmetry properties to model DWC as a classical symmetric channel. We characterize lower and upper bounds on the Holevo capacity of DWCs using simple computational formulae. Then, we provide a sufficient and necessary condition where the upper and lower bounds coincide. The framework in this paper enables us to characterize the exact Holevo capacity for most of the known special cases of DWCs.

Polygamy of multi-party $q$-expected quantum entanglement

We characterize the polygamy nature of quantum entanglement in multi-party systems in terms of $q$-expectation value for the full range of $q\geq 1$. By investigating some properties of generalized quantum correlations in terms of $q$-expectation value and Tsallis $q$-entropy, we establish a class of polygamy inequalities of multi-party quantum entanglement in arbitrary dimensions based on $q$-expected entanglement measure. As Tsallis $q$-entropy is reduced to von Neumann entropy, and $q$-expectation value becomes the ordinary expectation value when $q$ tends to $1$, our results encapsulate previous results of polygamy inequalities based on von Neumann entropy as special cases.

Generalized entanglement constraints in multi-qubit systems in terms of Tsallis entropy

We provide generalized entanglement constraints in multi-qubit systems in terms of Tsallis entropy. Using quantum Tsallis entropy of order $q$, we first provide a generalized monogamy inequality of multi-qubit entanglement for $q=2$ or $3$. This generalization encapsulates multi-qubit CKW-type inequality as a special case. We further provide a generalized polygamy inequality of multi-qubit entanglement in terms of Tsallis-$q$ entropy for $1 \leq q \leq2$ or $3 \leq q \leq 4$, which also contains the multi-qubit polygamy inequality as a special case.

Strong monogamy of multi-party quantum entanglement for partially coherently superposed states

We provide an evidence for the validity of strong monogamy inequality of multi-party quantum entanglement using square of convex-roof extended negativity(SCREN). We first consider a large class of multi-qudit mixed state that are in a partially coherent superposition of a generalized W-class state and the vacuum, and provide some useful properties about this class of states. We show that monogamy inequality of multi-qudit entanglement in terms of SCREN holds for this class of states. We further show that SCREN strong monogamy inequality of multi-qudit entanglement also holds for this class of states. Thus SCREN is a good alternative to characterize the monogamous and strongly monogamous properties of multi-qudit entanglement.

Tsallis entropy and general polygamy of multi-party quantum entanglement in arbitrary dimensions

We establish a unified view to the polygamy of multi-party quantum entanglement in arbitrary dimensions. Using quantum Tsallis-$q$ entropy, we provide a one-parameter class of polygamy inequalities of multi-party quantum entanglement. This class of polygamy inequalities reduces to the known polygamy inequalities based on tangle and entanglement of assistance for a selective choice of the parameter $q$. We further provide one-parameter generalizations of various quantum correlations based on Tsallis-$q$ entropy. By investigating the properties of the generalized quantum correlations, we provide a sufficient condition, on which the Tsallis-$q$ polygamy inequalities hold in multi-party quantum systems of arbitrary dimensions.

Negativity and strong monogamy of multi-party quantum entanglement beyond qubits

We propose the square of convex-roof extended negativity(SCREN) as a powerful candidate to characterize strong monogamy of multi-party quantum entanglement. We first provide a strong monogamy inequality of multi-party entanglement using SCREN, and show that the tangle-based multi-qubit strong monogamy inequality can be rephrased by SCREN. We further show that SCREN strong monogamy inequality is still true for the counterexamples that violate tangle-based strong monogamy inequality in higher-dimensional quantum systems rather than qubits. We also analytically show that SCREN strong monogamy inequality is true for a large class of multi-qudit states, a superposition of multi-qudit generalized W-class states and vacuums. Thus SCREN is a good alternative to characterize the strong monogamy of entanglement even in multi-qudit systems.

Strong monogamy of quantum entanglement for multi-qubit W-class states

We provide a strong evidence for strong monogamy inequality of multi-qubit entanglement recently proposed in [B. Regula {\em et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 113}, 110501 (2014)]. We consider a large class of multi-qubit generalized W-class states, and analytically show that the strong monogamy inequality of multi-qubit entanglement is saturated by this class of states.

Generalized Entropy and Global Quantum Discord in Multi-party Quantum systems

Using Tsallis-q entropy, we introduce the generalized concept of global quantum discord, namely the q-global quantum discord, and provide its analytic evaluation for two classes of multi-qubit states. We also provide a sufficient condition, for which the pairwise quantum correlations in terms of q-global quantum discord is monogamous in multi-party quantum systems.

preprint2013arXiv

Strong polygamy of quantum correlations in multi-party quantum systems

We propose a new type of polygamy inequality for multi-party quantum entanglement. We first consider the possible amount of bipartite entanglement distributed between a fixed party and any subset of the rest parties in a multi-party quantum system. By using the summation of these distributed entanglements, we provide an upper bound of the distributed entanglement between a party and the rest in multi-party quantum systems. We then show that this upper bound also plays as a lower bound of the usual polygamy inequality, therefore the strong polygamy of multi-party quantum entanglement. For the case of multi-party pure states, we further show that the strong polygamy of entanglement implies the strong polygamy of quantum discord.

preprint2012arXiv

General polygamy inequality of multi-party quantum entanglement

Using entanglement of assistance, we establish a general polygamy inequality of multi-party entanglement in arbitrary dimensional quantum systems. For multi-party closed quantum systems, we relate our result with the monogamy of entanglement to show that the entropy of entanglement is an universal entanglement measure that bounds both monogamy and polygamy of multi-party quantum entanglement.

Unification of multi-qubit polygamy inequalities

We establish a unified view of polygamy of multi-qubit entanglement. We first introduce a two-parameter generalization of entanglement of assistance namely unified entanglement of assistance for bipartite quantum states, and provide an analytic lowerbound in two-qubit systems. We show a broad class of polygamy inequalities of multi-qubit entanglement in terms of unified entanglement of assistance that encapsulates all known multi-qubit polygamy inequalities as special cases. We further show that this class of polygamy inequalities can be improved into tighter inequalities for three-qubit systems.

Unified entropy, entanglement measures and monogamy of multi-party entanglement

We show that restricted shareability of multi-qubit entanglement can be fully characterized by unified-$(q,s)$ entropy. We provide a two-parameter class of bipartite entanglement measures, namely unified-$(q,s)$ entanglement with its analytic formula in two-qubit systems for $q\geq 1$, $0\leq s \leq1$ and $qs\leq3$. Using unified-$(q,s)$ entanglement, we establish a broad class of the monogamy inequalities of multi-qubit entanglement for $q\geq2$, $0\leq s \leq1$ and $qs\leq3$.

Bound on distributed entanglement

Using the convex-roof extended negativity and the negativity of assistance as quantifications of bipartite entanglement, we consider the possible remotely-distributed entanglement. For two pure states $\ketϕ_{AB}$ and $\ketψ_{CD}$ on bipartite systems $AB$ and $CD$, we first show that the possible amount of entanglement remotely distributed on the system $AC$ by joint measurement on the system $BD$ is not less than the product of two amounts of entanglement for the states $\ketϕ_{AB}$ and $\ketψ_{CD}$ in two-qubit and two-qutrit systems. We also provide some sufficient conditions, for which the result can be generalized into higher-dimensional quantum systems.

Constraint on teleportation over multipartite pure states

We first define a quantity exhibiting the usefulness of bipartite quantum states for teleportation, called the quantum teleportation capability, and then investigate its restricted shareability in multi-party quantum systems. In this work, we verify that the quantum teleportation capability has a monogamous property in its shareability for arbitrary three-qutrit pure states by employing the monogamy inequality in terms of the negativity.

Distribution and dynamics of entanglement in high-dimensional quantum systems using convex-roof extended negativity

We develop theories of entanglement distribution and of entanglement dynamics for qudit systems, which incorporate previous qubit formulations. Using convex-roof extended negativity, we generalize previous qubit results for entanglement distribution with isotropic states and for entanglement dynamics with the depolarizing channel, and we establish a relation between these two types of entanglement networks.

Tsallis entropy and entanglement constraints in multi-qubit systems

We show that the restricted sharability and distribution of multi-qubit entanglement can be characterized by Tsallis-$q$ entropy. We first provide a class of bipartite entanglement measures named Tsallis-$q$ entanglement, and provide its analytic formula in two-qubit systems for $1 \leq q \leq 4$. For $2 \leq q \leq 3$, we show a monogamy inequality of multi-qubit entanglement in terms of Tsallis-$q$ entanglement, and we also provide a polygamy inequality using Tsallis-$q$ entropy for $1 \leq q \leq 2$ and $3 \leq q \leq 4$.

On the geometric distance between quantum states with positive partial transposition and private states

We prove an analytic positive lower bound for the geometric distance between entangled positive partial transpose (PPT) states of a broad class and any private state that delivers one secure key bit. Our proof holds for any Hilbert space of finite dimension. Although our result is proven for a specific class of PPT states, we show that our bound nonetheless holds for all known entangled PPT states with non-zero distillable key rates whether or not they are in our special class.

Bound entangled states with nonzero distillable key rate

In this paper, we present sufficient conditions for states to have positive distillable key rate. Exploiting the conditions, we show that the bound entangled states given by Horodecki et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 160502 (2005), quant-ph/0506203] have nonzero distillable key rate, and finally exhibit a new class of bound entangled states with positive distillable key rate, but with negative Devetak-Winter lower bound of distillable key rate for the ccq states of their privacy squeezed versions.
