Joint $q$-moments and shift invariance for the multi-species $q$-TAZRP on the infinite line

This paper presents a novel method for computing certain particle locations in the multi-species $q$-TAZRP (totally asymmetric zero range process). The method is based on a decomposition of the process into its discrete-time embedded Markov chain, which is described more generally as a monotone process on a graded partially ordered set; and an independent family of exponential random variables. A further ingredient is explicit contour integral formulas for the transition probabilities of the $q$-TAZRP. The main result of this method is a shift invariance for the multi-species $q$-TAZRP on the infinite line. By a previously known Markov duality result, these particle locations are the same as joint $q$-moments. One particular special case is that for step initial conditions, ordered multi-point joint $q$-moments of the $n$-species $q$-TAZRP match the $n$-point joint $q$-moments of the single-species $q$-TAZRP. Thus, we conjecture that the Airy$_2$ process describes the joint multi-point fluctuations of multi-species $q$-TAZRP. As a probabilistic application of this result, we find explicit contour integral formulas for the joint $q$-moments of the multi-species $q$-TAZRP in the diffusive scaling regime.

Probabilistic global well-posedness for a viscous nonlinear wave equation modeling fluid-structure interaction

We prove probabilistic well-posedness for a 2D viscous nonlinear wave equation modeling fluid-structure interaction between a 3D incompressible, viscous Stokes flow and nonlinear elastodynamics of a 2D stretched membrane. The focus is on (rough) data, often arising in real-life problems, for which it is known that the deterministic problem is ill-posed. We show that random perturbations of such data give rise almost surely to the existence of a unique solution. More specifically, we prove almost sure global well-posedness for a viscous nonlinear wave equation with the subcritical initial data in the Sobolev space $\mathcal{H}^s (\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s > - \frac 15$, which are randomly perturbed using Wiener randomization. This result shows "robustness" of nonlinear FSI problems/models, and provides confidence that even for the "rough data" (data in $\mathcal{H}^s$, $s > -\frac 1 5$) random perturbations of such data (due to e.g., randomness in real-life data, numerical discretization, etc.) will almost surely provide a unique solution which depends continuously on the data in the $\mathcal{H}^s$ topology.

Well-posedness of solutions to stochastic fluid-structure interaction

In this paper we introduce a constructive approach to study well-posedness of solutions to stochastic fluid-structure interaction with stochastic noise. We focus on a benchmark problem in stochastic fluid-structure interaction, and prove the existence of a unique weak solution in the probabilistically strong sense. The benchmark problem consists of the 2D time-dependent Stokes equations describing the flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid interacting with a linearly elastic membrane modeled by the 1D linear wave equation. The membrane is stochastically forced by the time-dependent white noise. The fluid and the structure are linearly coupled. The constructive existence proof is based on a time-discretization via an operator splitting approach. This introduces a sequence of approximate solutions, which are random variables. We show the existence of a subsequence of approximate solutions which converges, almost surely, to a weak solution in the probabilistically strong sense. The proof is based on uniform energy estimates in terms of the expectation of the energy norms, which are the backbone for a weak compactness argument giving rise to a weakly convergent subsequence of probability measures associated with the approximate solutions. Probabilistic techniques based on the Skorohod representation theorem and the Gyöngy-Krylov lemma are then employed to obtain almost sure convergence of a subsequence of the random approximate solutions to a weak solution in the probabilistically strong sense. The result shows that the deterministic benchmark FSI model is robust to stochastic noise, even in the presence of rough white noise in time. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first well-posedness result for fully coupled stochastic fluid-structure interaction.

Coxeter Group Actions on Interacting Particle Systems

We provide a conceptual proof of the color-position symmetry of colored ASEP by relating it to the actions of Coxeter groups. The group action (and hence the color-position symmetry) also applies to more general interacting particle systems, such as the colored ASEP(q,j) or systems with open boundary conditions. As an application, we find the asymptotics of the expected positions of second-class particles in the ASEP(q,j).

Two dualities: Markov and Schur-Weyl

We show that quantum Schur-Weyl duality leads to Markov duality for a variety of asymmetric interacting particle systems. In particular, we consider three cases: (1) Using a Schur-Weyl duality between a two-parameter quantum group and a two-parameter Hecke algebra from arXiv:math/0108038, we recover the Markov self-duality of multi-species ASEP previously discovered in arXiv:1605.00691 and arXiv:1606.04587. (2) From a Schur-Weyl duality between a co-ideal subalgebra of a quantum group and a Hecke algebra of type B arXiv:1609.01766, we find a Markov duality for a multi-species open ASEP on the semi-infinite line. The duality functional has not previously appeared in the literature. (3) A "fused" Hecke algebra from arXiv:2001.11372 leads to a new process, which we call braided ASEP. In braided ASEP, up to m particles may occupy a site and up to m particles may jump at a time. The Schur-Weyl duality between this Hecke algebra and a quantum group lead to a Markov duality. The duality function had previously appeared as the duality function of the multi-species ASEP(q,m/2) arXiv:1605.00691 and the stochastic multi-species higher spin vertex model arXiv:1701.04468.

Algebraic Symmetry and Self-Duality of an Open ASEP

We consider the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) with open boundary condition at the left boundary, where particles exit at rate γ and enter at rate α = γτ^2, and where τ is the asymmetry parameter in the bulk. At the right boundary, particles neither enter nor exit. By mapping the generator to the Hamiltonian of an XXZ quantum spin chain with reflection matrices, and using previously known results, we show algebraic symmetry and self-duality for the model.

An interacting particle system with geometric jump rates near a partially reflecting boundary

This paper constructs a new interacting particle system on a two--dimensional lattice with geometric jumps near a boundary which partially reflects the particles. The projection to each horizontal level is Markov, and on every level the dynamics match stochastic matrices constructed from pure alpha characters of $Sp(\infty)$, while on every other level they match an interacting particle system from Pieri formulas for $Sp(2r)$. Using a previously discovered correlation kernel, asymptotics are shown to be the Discrete Jacobi and Symmetric Pearcey processes.

Stochastic duality of ASEP with two particle types via symmetry of quantum groups of rank two

We study two generalizations of the asymmetric simple exclusion process with two types of particles. Particles of type 1 can jump over particles of type 2, while particles of type 2 can only influence the jump rates of particles of type 1. We prove that the processes are self-dual and explicitly write the duality function. As an application, an expression for the r-th moment of the exponentiated current is written in terms of r-particle evolution. The construction and proofs of duality are accomplished using symmetry of the quantum groups $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_3)$ and $U_q(\mathfrak{sp}_4)$, with each node in the Dynkin diagram corresponding to a particle type, and the number of edges corresponding to the jump rates.

Strong Szego asymptotics and zeros of the zeta function

Assuming the Riemann hypothesis, we prove the weak convergence of linear statistics of the zeros of L-functions towards a Gaussian field, with covariance structure corresponding to the $\HH^{1/2}$-norm of the test functions. For this purpose, we obtain an approximate form of the explicit formula, relying on Selberg's smoothed expression for $ζ'/ζ$ and the Helffer-Sjöstrand functional calculus. Our main result is an analogue of the strong Szeg{\H o} theorem, known for Toeplitz operators and random matrix theory.

The Gaussian free field in interlacing particle systems

We show that if an interlacing particle system in a two-dimensional lattice is a determinantal point process, and the correlation kernel can be expressed as a double integral with certain technical assumptions, then the moments of the fluctuations of the height function converge to that of the Gaussian free field. In particular, this shows that a previously studied random surface growth model with a reflecting wall has Gaussian free field fluctuations.

Three-dimensional Gaussian fluctuations of non-commutative random surfaces along time-like paths

We construct a continuous-time non-commutative random walk on $U(\mathfrak{gl}_N)$ with dilation maps $U(\mathfrak{gl}_N)\rightarrow L^2(U(N))^{\otimes\infty}$. This is an analog of a continuous-time non-commutative random walk on the group von Neumann algebra $vN(U(N))$ constructed in [15], and is a variant of discrete-time non-commutative random walks on $U(\mathfrak{gl}_N)$ [2,9]. It is also shown that when restricting to the Gelfand-Tsetlin subalgebra of $U(\mathfrak{gl}_N),$ the non-commutative random walk matches a (2+1)-dimensional random surface model introduced in [7]. As an application, it is then proved that the moments converge to an explicit Gaussian field along time-like paths. Combining with [7] which showed convergence to the Gaussian free field along space-like paths, this computes the entire three-dimensional Gaussian field. In particular, it matches a Gaussian field from eigenvalues of random matrices [5].

Asymptotics of a discrete-time particle system near a reflecting boundary

We examine a discrete-time Markovian particle system on the quarter-plane introduced by M. Defosseux. The vertical boundary acts as a reflecting wall. The particle system lies in the Anisotropic Kardar-Parisi-Zhang with a wall universality class. After projecting to a single horizontal level, we take the longtime asymptotics and obtain the discrete Jacobi and symmetric Pearcey kernels. This is achieved by showing that the particle system is identical to a Markov chain arising from representations of the infinite-dimensional orthogonal group. The fixed-time marginals of this Markov chain are known to be determinantal point processes, allowing us to take the limit of the correlation kernel. We also give a simple example which shows that in the multi-level case, the particle system and the Markov chain evolve differently.

Random surface growth with a wall and Plancherel measures for O(infinity)

We consider a Markov evolution of lozenge tilings of a quarter-plane and study its asymptotics at large times. One of the boundary rays serves as a reflecting wall. We observe frozen and liquid regions, prove convergence of the local correlations to translation-invariant Gibbs measures in the liquid region, and obtain new discrete Jacobi and symmetric Pearcey determinantal point processes near the wall. The model can be viewed as the one-parameter family of Plancherel measures for the infinite-dimensional orthogonal group, and we use this interpretation to derive the determinantal formula for the correlation functions at any finite time moment.

preprint2007arXiv

Asymptotics of Plancherel measures for the infinite-dimensional unitary group

We study a two-dimensional family of probability measures on infinite Gelfand-Tsetlin schemes induced by a distinguished family of extreme characters of the infinite-dimensional unitary group. These measures are unitary group analogs of the well-known Plancherel measures for symmetric groups. We show that any measure from our family defines a determinantal point process, and we prove that in appropriate scaling limits, such processes converge to two different extensions of the discrete sine process as well as to the extended Airy and Pearcey processes.
