In this paper, we consider topological semigroup actions on compact topological spaces. Under mild assumptions on the semigroup and the action, we construct a semi-direct product groupoid with a Haar system. We also show that it is equivalent to a transformation groupoid. We apply this construction to the Wiener-Hopf $C^{*}$-algebras.
Let $G$ be a locally compact groupoid. If $X$ is a free and proper $G$-space, then $(X*X)/G$ is a groupoid equivalent to $G$. We consider the situation where $X$ is proper but no longer free. The formalism of groupoid C*-algebras and their representations is suitable to attach C*-algebras to this new object.
We review various notions of correspondences for locally compact groupoids with Haar systems, in particular a recent definition due to R.D. Holkar. We give the construction of the representations induced by such a correspondence. Finally, we extend the construction of induced representations to hypergroupoids.
We establish that a second countable locally compact groupoid possessing a continuous Haar system is topologically amenable if and only if it is Borel amenable. We give some examples and applications.
This is a study of derivations constructed from conditionally negative type functions on groupoids which illustrates Sauvageot's theory of non-commutative Dirichlet forms.
Let $G$ be a minimal locally compact groupoid with compact metrizable unit space and let $E$ be a continuous $G$-Hilbert bundle. We show that a bounded continuous cocycle $c: G\ra r^*E$ is necessarily a continuous coboundary. This is a groupoid version of a classical theorem of Gottschalk and Hedlund.
Given a semigroup of local homeomorphisms on a compact space X we consider the corresponding semigroup of *-endomorphisms on C(X) and discuss the possibility of extending it to an interaction group, a concept recently introduced by the first named author. Under suitable hypotheses we may also define a transformation groupoid whose C*-algebra turns out to be isomorphic to the crossed product algebra for the interaction group. Several examples are considered, including one which gives rise to a slightly different construction and should be interpreted as being the C*-algebra of a certain polymorphism.
