Structural and magnetic phase transitions in Ca0.73_{0.73}La0.27_{0.27}FeAs2_2 with electron overdoped FeAs layers

We report a study of the Ca0.73_{0.73}La0.27_{0.27}FeAs2_2 single crystals. We unravel a monoclinic to triclinic phase transition at 58 K, and a paramagnetic to stripe antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase transition at 54 K, below which spins order 45∘^\circ away from the stripe direction. Furthermore, we demonstrate this material is substantially structurally untwinned at ambient pressure with the formation of spin rotation walls (S-walls). Finally, in addition to the central-hole and corner-electron Fermi pockets usually appearing in Fe pnictide superconductors, angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) measurements resolve a Fermiology where an extra electron pocket of mainly As chain character exists at the Brillouin zone edge.

Tetragonal magnetic phase in Ba1−x_{1-x}Kx_xFe2_2As2_2 from x-ray and neutron diffraction

Combined neutron and x-ray diffraction experiments demonstrate the formation of a low-temperature minority tetragonal phase in Ba0.76_{0.76}K0.24_{0.24}Fe2_2As2_2 in addition to the majority magnetic, orthorhombic phase. A coincident enhancement in the magnetic (12\frac{1}{2} 12\frac{1}{2} 1) peaks shows that this minority phase is of the same type that was observed in Ba1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 (0.24≤x≤0.280.24 \leq x \leq 0.28), in which the magnetic moments reorient along the cc-axis. This is evidence that the tetragonal magnetic phase is a universal feature of the hole-doped iron-based superconductors.

Coincident structural and magnetic order in BaFe2_2(As1−x_{1-x})Px_x)2_2 revealed by high-resolution neutron diffraction

We present neutron diffraction analysis of BaFe2_2(As1−x_{1-x}Px_x)2_2 over a wide temperature (10 to 300 K) and compositional (0.11≤x≤0.790.11 \leq x \leq 0.79) range, including the normal state, the magnetically ordered state, and the superconducting state. The paramagnetic to spin-density wave and orthorhombic to tetragonal transitions are first order and coincident within the sensitivity of our measurements (∼0.5\sim 0.5 K). Extrapolation of the orthorhombic order parameter down to zero suggests that structural quantum criticality cannot exist at compositions higher than x=0.28x = 0.28, which is much lower than values determined using other methods, but in good agreement with our observations of the actual phase stability range. The onset of spin-density wave order shows a stronger structural anomaly than the charge-doped system in the form of an enhancement of the c/ac/a ratio below the transition.

Structural, Magnetic, and Superconducting Properties of Ba1-xNaxFe2As2

We report the results of a systematic investigation of the phase diagram of the iron-based superconductor system, Ba1-xNaxFe2As2, from x = 0.1 to x = 1.0 using high resolution neutron and x-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. We find that the coincident structural and magnetic phase transition to an orthorhombic (O) structure with space group Fmmm and a striped antiferromagnet (AF) with space group F(C)mm'm' in Ba1-xNaxFe2As2 is of first order. A complete suppression of the magnetic phase is observed by x = 0.30, and bulk superconductivity occurs at a critical concentration near 0.15. We compare the new findings to the previously reported results of the hole-doped Ba1-xKxFe2As2 solid solution in order to resolve the differing effects of band filling and A-site cation size on the properties of the magnetic and superconducting ground states. The substantial size difference between Na and K causes various changes in the lattice trends, yet the overarching property phase diagram from the Ba1-xKxFe2As2 phase diagram carries over to the Ba1-xNaxFe2As2 solid solution. We note that the composition dependence of the c axis turns over from positive to negative around x = 0.35, unlike the K-substituted materials. We show that this can be understood by invoking steric effects; primarily the Fe2As2 layer shape is dictated mostly by the electronic filling, which secondarily induces an interlayer spacing adjusted to compensate for the given cation volume. This exemplifies the primacy of even subtle features in the Fe2As2 layer in controlling both the structure and properties in the uncollapsed 122 phases.

Anisotropic Hc2H_{c2} determined up to 92 T and the signature of multi-band superconductivity in Ca10_{10}(Pt4_{4}As8_{8})((Fe1−x_{1-x}Ptx_{x})2_{2}As2_{2})5_{5} superconductor

The upper critical fields, Hc2H_{c2}(TT), of single crystals of the superconductor Ca10_{10}(Pt4−δ_{4-δ}As8_{8})((Fe0.97_{0.97}Pt0.03_{0.03})2_{2}As2_{2})5_{5} (δδ ≈\approx 0.246) are determined over a wide range of temperatures down to TT = 1.42 K and magnetic fields of up to μ0Hμ_{0}H ≃\simeq 92 T. The measurements of anisotropic Hc2H_{c2}(TT) curves are performed in pulsed magnetic fields using radio-frequency contactless penetration depth measurements for magnetic field applied both parallel and perpendicular to the \textbf{ab}-plane. Whereas a clear upward curvature in Hc2∥cH_{c2}^{\parallel\textbf{c}}(TT) along \textbf{H}∥\parallel\textbf{c} is observed with decreasing temperature, the Hc2∥abH_{c2}^{\parallel\textbf{ab}}(TT) along \textbf{H}∥\parallel\textbf{ab} shows a flattening at low temperatures. The rapid increase of the Hc2∥cH_{c2}^{\parallel\textbf{c}}(TT) at low temperatures suggests that the superconductivity can be described by two dominating bands. The anisotropy parameter, γHγ_{H} ≡\equiv Hc2∥ab/Hc2∥cH_{c2}^{\parallel\textbf{ab}}/H_{c2}^{\parallel\textbf{c}}, is ∼\sim7 close to TcT_{c} and decreases considerably to ∼\sim1 with decreasing temperature, showing rather weak anisotropy at low temperatures.
