Singular compactness and definability for $Σ$-cotorsion and Gorenstein modules

We introduce a general version of singular compactness theorem which makes it possible to show that being a $Σ$-cotorsion module is a property of the complete theory of the module. As an application of the powerful tools developed along the way, we give a new description of Gorenstein flat modules which implies that, regardless of the ring, the class of all Gorenstein flat modules forms the left-hand class of a perfect cotorsion pair. We also prove the dual result for Gorenstein injective modules.

Tilting classes over commutative rings

We classify all tilting classes over an arbitrary commutative ring via certain sequences of Thomason subsets of the spectrum, generalizing the classification for noetherian commutative rings by Angeleri-Pospíšil-Šťovíček-Trlifaj. We show that the n-tilting classes can be equivalently expressed as classes of all modules vanishing in the first n degrees of one of the following homology theories arising from a finitely generated ideal: Tor_*(R/I,-), Koszul homology, Čech homology, or local homology (even though in general none of those theories coincide). Cofinite-type n-cotilting classes are described by vanishing of the corresponding cohomology theories. For any cotilting class of cofinite type, we also construct a corresponding cotilting module, generalizing the construction of Šťovíček-Trlifaj-Herbera. Finally, we characterize cotilting classes of cofinite type amongst the general ones, and construct new examples of n-cotilting classes not of cofinite type, which are in a sense hard to tell apart from those of cofinite type.

Tilting theory for trees via stable homotopy theory

We show that variants of the classical reflection functors from quiver representation theory exist in any abstract stable homotopy theory, making them available for example over arbitrary ground rings, for quasi-coherent modules on schemes, in the differential-graded context, in stable homotopy theory as well as in the equivariant, motivic, and parametrized variant thereof. As an application of these equivalences we obtain abstract tilting results for trees valid in all these situations, hence generalizing a result of Happel. The main tools introduced for the construction of these reflection functors are homotopical epimorphisms of small categories and one-point extensions of small categories, both of which are inspired by similar concepts in homological algebra.
