Stable equilibria for the roots of the symmetric continuous Hahn and Wilson polynomials

We show that the gradient flows associated with a recently found family of Morse functions converge exponentially to the roots of the symmetric continuous Hahn polynomials. By symmetry reduction the rate of the exponential convergence can be improved, which is clarified by comparing with corresponding gradient flows for the roots of the Wilson polynomials.

Spectrum and eigenfunctions of the lattice hyperbolic Ruijsenaars-Schneider system with exponential Morse term

We place the hyperbolic quantum Ruijsenaars-Schneider system with an exponential Morse term on a lattice and diagonalize the resulting $n$-particle model by means of multivariate continuous dual $q$-Hahn polynomials that arise as a parameter reduction of the Macdonald-Koornwinder polynomials. This allows to compute the $n$-particle scattering operator, to identify the bispectral dual system, and to confirm the quantum integrability in a Hilbert space set-up.

Integrable boundary interactions for Ruijsenaars' difference Toda chain

We endow Ruijsenaars' open difference Toda chain with a one-sided boundary interaction of Askey-Wilson type and diagonalize the quantum Hamiltonian by means of deformed hyperoctahedral $q$-Whittaker functions that arise as a $t=0$ degeneration of the Macdonald-Koornwinder multivariate Askey-Wilson polynomials. This immediately entails the quantum integrability, the bispectral dual system, and the $n$-particle scattering operator for the chain in question.

Discrete harmonic analysis on a Weyl alcove

We introduce a representation of the double affine Hecke algebra at the critical level q=1 in terms of difference-reflection operators and use it to construct an explicit integrable discrete Laplacian on the Weyl alcove corresponding to an element in the center. The Laplacian in question is to be viewed as an integrable discretization of the conventional Laplace operator on Euclidian space perturbed by a delta-potential supported on the reflection hyperplanes of the affine Weyl group. The Bethe Ansatz method is employed to show that our discrete Laplacian and its commuting integrals are diagonalized by a finite-dimensional basis of periodic Macdonald spherical functions.

The semi-infinite q-boson system with boundary interaction

Upon introducing a one-parameter quadratic deformation of the q-boson algebra and a diagonal perturbation at the end point, we arrive at a semi-infinite q-boson system with a two-parameter boundary interaction. The eigenfunctions are shown to be given by Macdonald's hyperoctahedral Hall-Littlewood functions of type BC. It follows that the n-particle spectrum is bounded and absolutely continuous and that the corresponding scattering matrix factorizes as a product of two-particle bulk and one-particle boundary scattering matrices.

Unitary representations of affine Hecke algebras related to Macdonald spherical functions

For any reduced crystallographic root system, we introduce a unitary representation of the (extended) affine Hecke algebra given by discrete difference-reflection operators acting in a Hilbert space of complex functions on the weight lattice. It is shown that the action of the center under this representation is diagonal on the basis of Macdonald spherical functions. As an application, we compute an explicit Pieri formula for these spherical functions.

A generalized Macdonald operator

We present an explicit difference operator diagonalized by the Macdonald polynomials associated with an (arbitrary) admissible pair of irreducible reduced crystallographic root systems. By the duality symmetry, this gives rise to an explicit Pieri formula for the Macdonald polynomials in question. The simplest examples of our construction recover Macdonald's celebrated difference operators and associated Pieri formulas pertaining to the minuscule and quasi-minuscule weights. As further by-products, explicit expansions and Littlewood-Richardson type formulas are obtained for the Macdonald polynomials associated with a special class of small weights.

A Pieri formula for Macdonald's spherical functions and polynomials

We present explicit Pieri formulas for Macdonald's spherical functions (or generalized Hall-Littlewood polynomials associated with root systems) and their $q$-deformation the Macdonald polynomials. For the root systems of type $A$, our Pieri formulas recover the well-known Pieri formulas for the Hall-Littlewood and Macdonald symmetric functions due to Morris and Macdonald as special cases.

Bernstein-Szego Polynomials Associated with Root Systems

We introduce multivariate generalizations of the Bernstein-Szego polynomials, which are associated to the root systems of the complex simple Lie algebras. The multivariate polynomials in question generalize Macdonald's Hall-Littlewood polynomials associated with root systems. For the root system of type A1 (corresponding to the Lie algebra SL (2;C)) the classic Bernstein-Szego polynomials are recovered.

Scattering theory of discrete (pseudo) Laplacians on a Weyl chamber

To a crystallographic root system we associate a system of multivariate orthogonal polynomials diagonalizing an integrable system of discrete pseudo Laplacians on the Weyl chamber. We develop the time-dependent scattering theory for these discrete pseudo Laplacians and determine the corresponding wave operators and scattering operators in closed form. As an application, we describe the scattering behavior of certain hyperbolic Ruijsenaars-Schneider type lattice Calogero-Moser models associated with the Macdonald polynomials.

On certain multiple Bailey, Rogers and Dougall type summation formulas

A multidimensional generalization of Bailey's very-well-poised bilateral basic hypergeometric ${}_6ψ_6$ summation formula and its Dougall type ${}_5H_5$ hypergeometric degeneration for $q\to 1$ is studied. The multiple Bailey sum amounts to an extension corresponding to the case of a nonreduced root system of certain summation identities associated to the reduced root systems that were recently conjectured by Aomoto and Ito and proved by Macdonald. By truncation, we obtain multidimensional analogues of the very-well-poised unilateral (basic) hypergeometric Rogers ${}_6ϕ_5$ and Dougall ${}_5F_4$ sums (both nonterminating and terminating). The terminating sums may be used to arrive at product formulas for the norms of recently introduced ($q$-)Racah polynomials in several variables.

Commuting difference operators with applications to orthogonal polynomials in several variables

Elementary properties of the Koornwinder-Macdonald multivariable Askey-Wilson polynomials are discussed. Studied are the orthogonality, the difference equations, the recurrence relations, and the orthonormalization constants for these polynomials. Essential in our approach are certain commuting difference operators simultaneously diagonalized by the polynomials.
