Five-Loop Static Contribution to the Gravitational Interaction Potential of Two Point Masses

We compute the static contribution to the gravitational interaction potential of two point masses in the velocity-independent five-loop (and 5th post-Newtonian) approximation to the harmonic coordinates effective action in a direct calculation. The computation is performed using effective field methods based on Feynman diagrams in momentum-space in $d = 3 - 2\varepsilon$ space dimensions. We also reproduce the previous results including the 4th post-Newtonian order.

Gravity in binary systems at the fifth and sixth post-Newtonian order

Binary sources of gravitational waves in the early inspiral phase are accurately described by a post-Newtonian expansion in small velocity and weak interaction. We compute the conservative dynamics to fifth and partial sixth order using a non-relativistic effective field theory. We give predictions for central observables and determine the required coefficients for the construction of an Effective One-Body Hamiltonian, extending the applicability of our results to the late inspiral and merger phases.

High Precision QED Initial State Corrections for $e^+ e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z^*$ Annihilation

The precise knowledge of the QED initial state corrections is of instrumental importance in studying high luminosity measurements in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at facilities like LEP, the International Linear Collider ILC, CLIC, a Giga-$Z$ facility, and the planned FCC\_ee. Logarithmic corrections of up to $O(α^6 L^5)$ are necessary with various subleading terms taken into account. This applies to both the inclusive measurement of processes like $e^+ e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z^*$ and also the forward-backward asymmetry. As has been shown recently, techniques from massive QCD, such as the computation of massive on-shell operator matrix elements, can be used for these calculations. We give an introduction to this topic and present both the calculation methods and the numerical corrections having been reached so far.

The fifth-order post-Newtonian Hamiltonian dynamics of two-body systems from an effective field theory approach

Within an effective field theory method to general relativity, we calculate the fifth-order post--Newtonian (5 PN) Hamiltonian dynamics also for the tail terms, extending earlier work on the potential contributions, working in harmonic coordinates. Here we calculate independently all (local) 5 PN contributions to the tail terms using the in--in formalism, on which we give a detailed account. The five expansion terms of the Hamiltonian in the effective one body (EOB) approach, $q_{82}, q_{63}, q_{44}, \bar{d_5}$ and $a_6$, can all be determined from the local contributions to periastron advance $K^{\rm loc,h}(\hat{E},j)$, without further assumptions on the structure of the symmetric mass ratio, $ν$, of the expansion coefficients of the scattering angle $χ_k$. The $O(ν^2)$ contributions to the 5 PN EOB parameters have been unknown in part before. We perform comparisons of our analytic results with the literature and also present numerical results on some observables.

The Two-Loop Massless Off-Shell QCD Operator Matrix Elements to Finite Terms

We calculate the unpolarized and polarized two--loop massless off--shell operator matrix elements in QCD to $O(\varepsilon)$ in the dimensional parameter in an automated way. Here we use the method of arbitrary high Mellin moments and difference ring theory, based on integration-by-parts relations. This method also constitutes one way to compute the QCD anomalous dimensions. The presented higher order contributions to these operator matrix elements occur as building blocks in the corresponding higher order calculations up to four--loop order. All contributing quantities can be expressed in terms of harmonic sums in Mellin--$N$ space or by harmonic polylogarithms in $z$--space. We also perform comparisons to the literature.

The Unpolarized and Polarized Single-Mass Three-Loop Heavy Flavor Operator Matrix Elements $A_{gg,Q}$ and $ΔA_{gg,Q}$

We calculate the gluonic massive operator matrix elements in the unpolarized and polarized cases, $A_{gg,Q}(x,μ^2)$ and $ΔA_{gg,Q}(x,μ^2)$, at three-loop order for a single mass. These quantities contribute to the matching of the gluon distribution in the variable flavor number scheme. The polarized operator matrix element is calculated in the Larin scheme. These operator matrix elements contain finite binomial and inverse binomial sums in Mellin $N$-space and iterated integrals over square root-valued alphabets in momentum fraction $x$-space. We derive the necessary analytic relations for the analytic continuation of these quantities from the even or odd Mellin moments into the complex plane, present analytic expressions in momentum fraction $x$-space and derive numerical results. The present results complete the gluon transition matrix elements both of the single- and double-mass variable flavor number scheme to three-loop order.

The Polarized Transition Matrix Element $A_{gq}(N)$ of the Variable Flavor Number Scheme at $O(α_s^3)$

We calculate the polarized massive operator matrix element $A_{gq}^{(3)}(N)$ to 3-loop order in Quantum Chromodynamics analytically at general values of the Mellin variable $N$ both in the single- and double-mass case in the Larin scheme. It is a transition function required in the variable flavor number scheme at $O(α_s^3)$. We also present the results in momentum fraction space.

The three-loop polarized singlet anomalous dimensions from off-shell operator matrix elements

Future high luminosity polarized deep--inelastic scattering experiments will improve both the knowledge of the spin sub--structure of the nucleons and contribute further to the precision determination of the strong coupling constant, as well as, reveal currently yet unknown higher twist contributions in the polarized sector. For all these tasks to be performed, it is necessary to know the QCD leading twist scaling violations of the measured structure functions. Here an important ingredient consists in the polarized singlet anomalous dimensions and splitting functions in QCD. We recalculate these quantities to three--loop order in the M--scheme by using the traditional method of space--like off--shell massless operator matrix elements, being a gauge--dependent framework. Here one obtains the anomalous dimensions without referring to gravitational currents, needed when calculating them using the forward Compton amplitude. We also calculate the non--singlet splitting function $ΔP_{\rm qq}^{(2), \rm s, NS}$ and compare the final results to the literature, also including predictions for the region of small values of Bjorken $x$.

Fourth post-Newtonian Hamiltonian dynamics of two-body systems from an effective field theory approach

We calculate the motion of binary mass systems in gravity up to the fourth post--Newtonian order. We use momentum expansions within an effective field theory approach based on Feynman amplitudes in harmonic coordinates by applying dimensional regularization. We construct the canonical transformations to ADM coordinates and to effective one body theory (EOB) to compare with other approaches. We show that intermediate poles in the dimensional regularization parameter $\varepsilon$ vanish in the observables and the classical theory is not renormalized. The results are illustrated for a series of observables for which we agree with the literature.

Subleading Logarithmic QED Initial State Corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/{Z^{0}}^*$ to $O(α^6 L^5)$

Using the method of massive operator matrix elements, we calculate the subleading QED initial state radiative corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z^*$ for the first three logarithmic contributions from $O(α^3 L^3), O(α^3 L^2), O(α^3 L)$ to $O(α^5 L^5), O(α^5 L^4), O(α^5 L^3)$ and compare their effects to the leading contribution $O(α^6 L^6)$ and one more subleading term $O(α^6 L^5)$. The calculation is performed in the limit of large center of mass energies squared $s \gg m_e^2$. These terms supplement the known corrections to $O(α^2)$, which were completed recently. Given the high precision at future colliders operating at very large luminosity, these corrections are important for concise theoretical predictions. The present calculation needs the calculation of one more two--loop massive operator matrix element in QED. The radiators are obtained as solutions of the associated Callen--Symanzik equations in the massive case. The radiators can be expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms to weight {\sf w = 6} of argument $z$ and $(1-z)$ and in Mellin $N$ space by generalized harmonic sums. Numerical results are presented on the position of the $Z$ peak and corrections to the $Z$ width, $Γ_Z$. The corrections calculated result into a final theoretical accuracy for $δM_Z$ and $δΓ_Z$ which is estimated to be of O(30 keV) at an anticipated systematic accuracy at the FCC\_ee of \sim 100 keV. This precision cannot be reached, however, by including only the corrections up to $O(α^3)$.

Testing binary dynamics in gravity at the sixth post-Newtonian level

We calculate the motion of binary mass systems in gravity up to the sixth post--Newtonian order to the $G_N^3$ terms ab initio using momentum expansions within an effective field theory approach based on Feynman amplitudes in harmonic coordinates. For these contributions we construct a canonical transformation to isotropic and to EOB coordinates at 5PN and agree with the results in the literature \cite{Bern:2019nnu,Damour:2019lcq}. At 6PN we compare to the Hamiltonians in isotropic coordinates either given in \cite{Bern:2019nnu} or resulting from the scattering angle. We find a canonical transformation from our Hamiltonian in harmonic coordinates to \cite{Bern:2019nnu}, but not to \cite{Damour:2019lcq}. This implies that we also agree on all observables with \cite{Bern:2019nnu} to the sixth post--Newtonian order to $G_N^3$.

The $O(α^2)$ Initial State QED Corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z_0^*$

We calculate the complete $O(α^2)$ initial state radiation corrections to $e^+ e^-$ annihilation into a neutral vector boson in a direct analytic computation without any approximation. The corrections are represented in terms of iterated incomplete (elliptic) integrals over alphabets of square--root valued letters. Performing the limit $s \gg m_e^2$, we find discrepancies with the earlier results of Ref.~\cite{Berends:1987ab} and confirm results obtained in Ref.~\cite{Blumlein:2011mi} where the effective method of massive operator matrix elements has been used, which works for all but the power corrections in $m^2_e/s$. In this way, we also confirm the validity of the factorization of massive partons in the Drell--Yan process. We add non--logarithmic terms at $O(α^2)$ which have not been considered in previous calculations. The final results in the limit $s \gg m_e^2$ can be given in terms of Nielsen integrals.

The fifth-order post-Newtonian Hamiltonian dynamics of two-body systems from an effective field theory approach: potential contributions

We calculate the potential contributions of the motion of binary mass systems in gravity to the fifth post--Newtonian order ab initio using coupling and velocity expansions within an effective field theory approach based on Feynman amplitudes starting with harmonic coordinates and using dimensional regularization. Furthermore, the singular and logarithmic tail contributions are calculated. We also consider the non--local tail contributions. Further steps towards the complete calculation are discussed and first comparisons are given to results in the literature.

The Two-mass Contribution to the Three-Loop Polarized Operator Matrix Element $A_{gg,Q}^{(3)}$

We compute the two-mass contributions to the polarized massive operator matrix element $A_{gg,Q}^{(3)}$ at third order in the strong coupling constant $α_s$ in Quantum Chromodynamics analytically. These corrections are important ingredients for the matching relations in the variable flavor number scheme and for the calculation of Wilson coefficients in deep--inelastic scattering in the asymptotic regime $Q^2 \gg m_c^2, m_b^2$. The analytic result is expressed in terms of nested harmonic, generalized harmonic, cyclotomic and binomial sums in $N$-space and by iterated integrals involving square-root valued arguments in $z$ space, as functions of the mass ratio. Numerical results are presented. New two--scale iterative integrals are calculated.

The effects of $O(α^2)$ initial state QED corrections to $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z^*$ at very high luminosity colliders

We present numerical results on the recently completed $O(α^2)$ initial state corrections to the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z^*$, which is a central process at past and future high energy and high luminsoity colliders for precision measurements of the properties of the $Z$-boson, the Higgs boson, and the top quark. We observe differences to an earlier result \cite{Berends:1987ab} in the non-logarithmic contributions at $O(α^2)$. The new result leads to a 4 MeV shift in the $Z$ width considering the lower end $s_0 = 4 m_τ^2$ of the radiation region, which is larger than the present accuracy. We present predictions on the radiative corrections to the central processes $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/Z^*$, $e^+e^- \rightarrow Z H$ and $e^+e^- \rightarrow t \overline{t}$ planned at future colliders like the ILC, CLIC, Fcc\_ee and CEPC to measure the mass and the width of the $Z$ boson, the Higgs boson and the top quark, for which the present corrections are significant.

The Heavy Fermion Contributions to the Massive Three Loop Form Factors

We compute the $n_h$ terms to the massive three loop vector-, axialvector-, scalar- and pseudoscalar form factors in a direct analytic calculation using the method of large moments. This method has the advantage, that the master integrals have to be dealt with only in their moment representation, allowing to also consider quantities which obey differential equations, which are not first order factorizable (elliptic and higher), already at this level. To obtain all the associated recursions, up to 8000 moments had to be calculated. A new technique has been applied to solve the associated differential equation systems. Here the decoupling is performed such, that only minimal depth $ε$--expansions had to be performed for non--first-order factorizing systems, minimizing the calculation of initial values. The pole terms in the dimensional parameter $ε$ can be completely predicted using renormalization group methods, as confirmed by the present results. A series of contributions at $O(ε^0)$ have first order factorizable representations. For a smaller number of color--zeta projections this is not the case. All first order factorizing terms can be represented by harmonic polylogarithms. We also obtain analytic results for the non--first-order factorizing terms by Taylor series in a variable $x$, for which we have calculated at least 2000 expansion coefficients, in an approximation. Based on this representation the form factors can be given in the Euclidean region and in the region $q^2 \approx 0$. Numerical results are presented.

The three-loop polarized pure singlet operator matrix element with two different masses

We present the two-mass QCD contributions to the polarized pure singlet operator matrix element at three loop order in $x$-space. These terms are relevant for calculating the polarized structure function $g_1(x,Q^2)$ at $O(α_s^3)$ as well as for the matching relations in the variable flavor number scheme and the polarized heavy quark distribution functions at the same order. The result for the operator matrix element is given in terms of generalized iterated integrals. These integrals depend on the mass ratio through the main argument, and the alphabet includes square--root valued letters.

The three-loop single mass polarized pure singlet operator matrix element

We calculate the massive polarized three-loop pure singlet operator matrix element $A_{Qq}^{(3), \rm PS}$ in the single mass case in the Larin scheme. This operator matrix element contributes to the massive polarized three-loop Wilson coefficient $H_{Qq}^{(3),\rm PS}$ in deep-inelastic scattering and constitutes a three-loop transition matrix element in the variable flavor number scheme. We provide analytic results in Mellin $N$ and in $x$ space and study the behaviour of this operator matrix element in the region of small and large values of the Bjorken variable $x$.

Three loop QCD corrections to heavy quark form factors

Higher order calculations in perturbative Quantum Field Theories often produce coupled linear systems of differential equations which factorize to first order. Here we present an algorithm to solve such systems in terms of iterated integrals over an alphabet the structure of which is implied by the coefficient matrix of the given system. We apply this method to calculate the master integrals in the color-planar and complete light quark contributions to the three-loop massive form factors.

A Critical Appraisal and Evaluation of Modern PDFs

We review the present status of the determination of parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the light of the precision requirements for the LHC in Run 2 and other future hadron colliders. We provide brief reviews of all currently available PDF sets and use them to compute cross sections for a number of benchmark processes, including Higgs boson production in gluon-gluon fusion at the LHC. We show that the differences in the predictions obtained with the various PDFs are due to particular theory assumptions made in the fits of those PDFs. We discuss PDF uncertainties in the kinematic region covered by the LHC and on averaging procedures for PDFs, such as advocated by the PDF4LHC15 sets, and provide recommendations for the usage of PDF sets for theory predictions at the LHC.

Summary of workshop on Future Physics with HERA Data

Recent highlights from the HERA experiments, Hermes, H1 and ZEUS, are reviewed and ideas for future analyses to fully exploit this unique data set are proposed. This document is a summary of a workshop on future physics with HERA data held at DESY, Hamburg at the end of 2014. All areas of HERA physics are covered and contributions from both experimentalists and theorists are included. The document outlines areas where HERA physics can still make a significant contribution, principally in a deeper understanding of QCD, and its relevance to other facilities. Within the framework of the Data Preservation in High Energy Physics, the HERA data have been preserved for analyses to take place over a timescale of 10 years and more. Therefore, although an extensive list of possibilities is presented here, safe storage of the data ensures that it can also be used in the far future should new ideas and analyses be proposed.

Besides the heavy quark pair production, also the single heavy flavor excitation $s \rightarrow c$ contributes. Numerical results are presented for the charm quark contributions and consequences on the unpolarized Bjorken sum rule and Adler sum rule are discussed.

Calculating Three Loop Ladder and V-Topologies for Massive Operator Matrix Elements by Computer Algebra

Three loop ladder and $V$-topology diagrams contributing to the massive operator matrix element $A_{Qg}$ are calculated. The corresponding objects can all be expressed in terms of nested sums and recurrences depending on the Mellin variable $N$ and the dimensional parameter $\varepsilon$. Given these representations, the desired Laurent series expansions in $\varepsilon$ can be obtained with the help of our computer algebra toolbox. Here we rely on generalized hypergeometric functions and Mellin-Barnes representations, on difference ring algorithms for symbolic summation, on an optimized version of the multivariate Almkvist-Zeilberger algorithm for symbolic integration, and on new methods to calculate Laurent series solutions of coupled systems of differential equations. The solutions can be computed for general coefficient matrices directly for any basis also performing the expansion in the dimensional parameter in case it is expressible in terms of indefinite nested product-sum expressions. This structural result is based on new results of our difference ring theory. In the cases discussed we deal with iterative sum- and integral-solutions over general alphabets. The final results are expressed in terms of special sums, forming quasi-shuffle algebras, such as nested harmonic sums, generalized harmonic sums, and nested binomially weighted (cyclotomic) sums. Analytic continuations to complex values of $N$ are possible through the recursion relations obeyed by these quantities and their analytic asymptotic expansions. The latter lead to a host of new constants beyond the multiple zeta values, the infinite generalized harmonic and cyclotomic sums in the case of $V$-topologies.

High-precision $α_s$ measurements from LHC to FCC-ee

This document provides a writeup of all contributions to the workshop on "High precision measurements of $α_s$: From LHC to FCC-ee" held at CERN, Oct. 12--13, 2015. The workshop explored in depth the latest developments on the determination of the QCD coupling $α_s$ from 15 methods where high precision measurements are (or will be) available. Those include low-energy observables: (i) lattice QCD, (ii) pion decay factor, (iii) quarkonia and (iv) $τ$ decays, (v) soft parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions, as well as high-energy observables: (vi) global fits of parton distribution functions, (vii) hard parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions, (viii) jets in $e^\pm$p DIS and $γ$-p photoproduction, (ix) photon structure function in $γ$-$γ$, (x) event shapes and (xi) jet cross sections in $e^+e^-$ collisions, (xii) W boson and (xiii) Z boson decays, and (xiv) jets and (xv) top-quark cross sections in proton-(anti)proton collisions. The current status of the theoretical and experimental uncertainties associated to each extraction method, the improvements expected from LHC data in the coming years, and future perspectives achievable in $e^+e^-$ collisions at the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) with $\cal{O}$(1--100 ab$^{-1}$) integrated luminosities yielding 10$^{12}$ Z bosons and jets, and 10$^{8}$ W bosons and $τ$ leptons, are thoroughly reviewed. The current uncertainty of the (preliminary) 2015 strong coupling world-average value, $α_s(m_Z)$ = 0.1177 $\pm$ 0.0013, is about 1\%. Some participants believed this may be reduced by a factor of three in the near future by including novel high-precision observables, although this opinion was not universally shared. At the FCC-ee facility, a factor of ten reduction in the $α_s$ uncertainty should be possible, mostly thanks to the huge Z and W data samples available.

3-Loop Heavy Flavor Corrections in Deep-Inelastic Scattering with Two Heavy Quark Lines

We consider gluonic contributions to the heavy flavor Wilson coefficients at 3-loop order in QCD with two heavy quark lines in the asymptotic region $Q^2 \gg m_{1(2)}^2$. Here we report on the complete result in the case of two equal masses $m_1 = m_2$ for the massive operator matrix element $A_{gg,Q}^{(3)}$, which contributes to the corresponding heavy flavor transition matrix element in the variable flavor number scheme. Nested finite binomial sums and iterated integrals over square-root valued alphabets emerge in the result for this quantity in $N$ and $x$-space, respectively. We also present results for the case of two unequal masses for the flavor non-singlet OMEs and on the scalar integrals ic case of $A_{gg,Q}^{(3)}$, which were calculated without a further approximation. The graphs can be expressed by finite nested binomial sums over generalized harmonic sums, the alphabet of which contains rational letters in the ratio $η= m_1^2/m_2^2$.

3-loop Massive $O(T_F^2)$ Contributions to the DIS Operator Matrix Element $A_{gg}$

Contributions to heavy flavour transition matrix elements in the variable flavour number scheme are considered at 3-loop order. Higher Order Heavy Quark Corrections to Deep-Inelastic Scattering

The 3-loop heavy flavor corrections to deep-inelastic scattering are essential for consistent next-to-next-to-leading order QCD analyses. We report on the present status of the calculation of these corrections at large virtualities $Q^2$. We also describe a series of mathematical, computer-algebraic and combinatorial methods and special function spaces, needed to perform these calculations. Finally, we briefly discuss the status of measuring $α_s(M_Z)$, the charm quark mass $m_c$, and the parton distribution functions at next-to-next-to-leading order from the world precision data on deep-inelastic scattering.

Iterated Binomial Sums and their Associated Iterated Integrals

We consider finite iterated generalized harmonic sums weighted by the binomial $\binom{2k}{k}$ in numerators and denominators. A large class of these functions emerges in the calculation of massive Feynman diagrams with local operator insertions starting at 3-loop order in the coupling constant and extends the classes of the nested harmonic, generalized harmonic and cyclotomic sums. The binomially weighted sums are associated by the Mellin transform to iterated integrals over square-root valued alphabets. The values of the sums for $N \rightarrow \infty$ and the iterated integrals at $x=1$ lead to new constants, extending the set of special numbers given by the multiple zeta values, the cyclotomic zeta values and special constants which emerge in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$ of generalized harmonic sums. We develop algorithms to obtain the Mellin representations of these sums in a systematic way. They are of importance for the derivation of the asymptotic expansion of these sums and their analytic continuation to $N \in \mathbb{C}$. The associated convolution relations are derived for real parameters and can therefore be used in a wider context, as e.g. for multi-scale processes. We also derive algorithms to transform iterated integrals over root-valued alphabets into binomial sums. Using generating functions we study a few aspects of infinite (inverse) binomial sums.

The 3-Loop Non-Singlet Heavy Flavor Contributions and Anomalous Dimensions for the Structure Function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and Transversity

We calculate the massive flavor non-singlet Wilson coefficient for the heavy flavor contributions to the structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ in the asymptotic region $Q^2 \gg m^2$ and the associated operator matrix element $A_{qq,Q}^{(3), \rm NS}(N)$ to 3-loop order in Quantum Chromodynamics at general values of the Mellin variable $N$. This matrix element is associated to the vector current and axial vector current for the even and the odd moments $N$, respectively. We also calculate the corresponding operator matrix elements for transversity, compute the contributions to the 3-loop anomalous dimensions to $O(N_F)$ and compare to results in the literature. The 3-loop matching of the flavor non-singlet distribution in the variable flavor number scheme is derived. A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN

This document provides a brief overview of the recently published report on the design of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), which comprises its physics programme, accelerator physics, technology and main detector concepts. The LHeC exploits and develops challenging, though principally existing, accelerator and detector technologies. This summary is complemented by brief illustrations of some of the highlights of the physics programme, which relies on a vastly extended kinematic range, luminosity and unprecedented precision in deep inelastic scattering. Illustrations are provided regarding high precision QCD, new physics (Higgs, SUSY) and electron-ion physics. The LHeC is designed to run synchronously with the LHC in the twenties and to achieve an integrated luminosity of O(100) fb$^{-1}$. It will become the cleanest high resolution microscope of mankind and will substantially extend as well as complement the investigation of the physics of the TeV energy scale, which has been enabled by the LHC.

ABM news and benchmarks

We report on progress in the determination of the unpolarised nucleon PDFs within the ABM global fit framework. The data used in the ABM analysis are updated including the charm-production and the high-Q2 neutral-current samples obtained at the HERA collider, as well as the LHC data on the differential Drell-Yan cross-sections. An updated set of the PDFs with improved experimental and theoretical accuracy at small x is presented. We find minimal impact of the t-quark production cross section measured at the Tevatron and the LHC on the gluon distribution and the value of the strong coupling constant α_s determined from the ABM fit in the case of the t-quark running-mass definition. In particular, the value of α_s(M_Z)=0.1133(8) is obtained from the variant of the ABM12 fit with the Tevatron and CMS t-quark production cross-section data included and the MSbar value of m_t(m_t)=162 GeV.

Determination of $α_s$ and $m_c$ in deep-inelastic scattering

We describe the determination of the strong coupling constant $α_s(M_Z^2)$ and of the charm-quark mass $m_c(m_c)$ in the $\bar{\rm MS}$-scheme, based on the QCD analysis of the unpolarized World deep-inelastic scattering data. At NNLO the values of $α_s(M_Z^2)=0.1134\pm 0.0011(\text{exp})$ and $m_c(m_c)=1.24 \pm 0.03 (\text{exp})\,^{+0.03}_{-0.02} (\text{scale})\,^{+0.00}_{-0.07} (\text{th})$ are obtained and are compared with other determinations, also clarifying discrepancies.

Heavy-quark production in deep-inelastic scattering

We report recent experimental and theoretical progress concerning the heavy-quark electro-production in the context of the ABM11 parton distribution function (PDF) fit. In the updated ABM11 analysis, including the recent combined HERA charm data, the MSbar-values of the c-quark mass m_c(m_c)=1.24 +- 0.03 (exp)\,^{+0.03}_{-0.02}(scale)\,^{+0.00}_{-0.07} (th) and m_c(m_c)=1.15\, +- 0.04 (exp)\,^{+0.04}_{-0.00} (scale) are determined at NNLO and NLO, respectively. The values of m_c obtained are compared to other determinations including the ones based on the various variable-flavor-number (VFN) scheme prescriptions. The VFN scheme uncertainties related to the matching of the 4(5)-flavor PDFs with the 3(4)-flavor ones are discussed.

New Exclusion Limits on Dark Gauge Forces from Proton Bremsstrahlung in Beam-Dump Data

We re-analyze published proton beam dump data taken at the U70 accelerator at IHEP Serpukhov with the $ν$-calorimeter I experiment in 1989 to set mass-coupling limits for dark gauge forces. The corresponding data have been used for axion and light Higgs particle searches in Refs. \cite{Blumlein:1990ay,Blumlein:1991xh} before. More recently, limits on dark gauge forces have been derived from this data set, considering a dark photon production from $π^0$-decay \cite{Blumlein:2011mv}. Here we determine extended mass and coupling exclusion bounds for dark gauge bosons ranging to masses $m_{γ'}$ of 624 MeV at admixture parameters $\varepsilon \simeq 10^{-6}$ considering high-energy Bremsstrahlung of the $U$-boson off the initial proton beam and different detection mechanisms.

New Results on the 3-Loop Heavy Flavor Corrections in Deep-Inelastic Scattering

We report on recent progress in the calculation of the 3-loop massive Wilson coefficients in deep-inelastic scattering at general values of $N$ for neutral and charged current reactions in the asymptotic region $Q^2 \gg m^2$. Four new out of eight massive operator matrix elements and Wilson coefficients have been obtained recently. We also discuss recent results on Feynman graphs containing two-massive fermion lines and present complete results for the bubble topologies for all processes.

New Results on the 3-Loop Heavy Flavor Wilson Coefficients in Deep-Inelastic Scattering

We report on recent results obtained for the 3-loop heavy flavor Wilson coefficients in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) at general values of the Mellin variable $N$ at larger scales of $Q^2$. These concern contributions to the gluonic ladder-topologies, the transition matrix elements in the variable flavor scheme of $O(n_f T_F^2)$ and $O(T_F^2)$, and first results on higher 3-loop topologies. The knowledge of the heavy flavor Wilson coefficients at 3-loop order is of importance to extract the parton distribution functions and $α_s(M_Z^2)$ in complete NNLO QCD analyses of the world precision data on the structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$.

On the Relation of the LHeC and the LHC

The present note relies on the recently published conceptual design report of the LHeC and extends the first contribution to the European strategy debate in emphasising the role of the LHeC to complement and complete the high luminosity LHC programme. The brief discussion therefore focuses on the importance of high precision PDF and $α_s$ determinations for the physics beyond the Standard Model (GUTs, SUSY, Higgs). Emphasis is also given to the importance of high parton density phenomena in nuclei and their relevance to the heavy ion physics programme at the LHC.

A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN: Report on the Physics and Design Concepts for Machine and Detector

The physics programme and the design are described of a new collider for particle and nuclear physics, the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), in which a newly built electron beam of 60 GeV, up to possibly 140 GeV, energy collides with the intense hadron beams of the LHC. Compared to HERA, the kinematic range covered is extended by a factor of twenty in the negative four-momentum squared, $Q^2$, and in the inverse Bjorken $x$, while with the design luminosity of $10^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ the LHeC is projected to exceed the integrated HERA luminosity by two orders of magnitude. The physics programme is devoted to an exploration of the energy frontier, complementing the LHC and its discovery potential for physics beyond the Standard Model with high precision deep inelastic scattering measurements. These are designed to investigate a variety of fundamental questions in strong and electroweak interactions. The physics programme also includes electron-deuteron and electron-ion scattering in a $(Q^2, 1/x)$ range extended by four orders of magnitude as compared to previous lepton-nucleus DIS experiments for novel investigations of neutron's and nuclear structure, the initial conditions of Quark-Gluon Plasma formation and further quantum chromodynamic phenomena. The LHeC may be realised either as a ring-ring or as a linac-ring collider. Optics and beam dynamics studies are presented for both versions, along with technical design considerations on the interaction region, magnets and further components, together with a design study for a high acceptance detector. Civil engineering and installation studies are presented for the accelerator and the detector. The LHeC can be built within a decade and thus be operated while the LHC runs in its high-luminosity phase. It thus represents a major opportunity for progress in particle physics exploiting the investment made in the LHC.

Evaluation of Multi-Sums for Large Scale Problems

A big class of Feynman integrals, in particular, the coefficients of their Laurent series expansion w.r.t.\ the dimension parameter $\ep$ can be transformed to multi-sums over hypergeometric terms and harmonic sums. In this article, we present a general summation method based on difference fields that simplifies these multi--sums by transforming them from inside to outside to representations in terms of indefinite nested sums and products. In particular, we present techniques that assist in the task to simplify huge expressions of such multi-sums in a completely automatic fashion. The ideas are illustrated on new calculations coming from 3-loop topologies of gluonic massive operator matrix elements containing two fermion lines, which contribute to the transition matrix elements in the variable flavor scheme.

$O(α_s)$ Heavy Flavor Corrections to Charged Current Deep-Inelastic Scattering in Mellin Space

We provide a fast and precise Mellin-space implementation of the $O(α_s)$ heavy flavor Wilson coefficients for charged current deep inelastic scattering processes. They are of importance for the extraction of the strange quark distribution in neutrino-nucleon scattering and the QCD analyses of the HERA charged current data. Errors in the literature are corrected. We also discuss a series of more general parton parameterizations in Mellin space.

Two-loop operator matrix elements for massive fermionic local twist-2 operators in QED

We describe the calculation of the two--loop massive operator matrix elements with massive external fermions in QED. We investigate the factorization of the $O(α^2)$ initial state corrections to $e^+e^-$ annihilation into a virtual boson for large cms energies $s \gg m_e^2$ into massive operator matrix elements and the massless Wilson coefficients of the Drell-Yan process adapting the color coefficients to the case of QED, as proposed by Berends et. al. in Ref. [1]. Our calculations show explicitly that the representation proposed in Ref. [1] works at one-loop order and up to terms linear in $\ln(s/m^2_e)$ at two-loop order. However, the two-loop constant part contains a few structural terms, which have not been obtained in previous direct calculations.

Heavy Flavor DIS Wilson coefficients in the asymptotic regime

We report on results for the heavy flavor contributions to $F_2(x,Q^2)$ in the limit $Q^2\gg m^2$ at {\sf NNLO}. By calculating the massive $3$--loop operator matrix elements, we account for all but the power suppressed terms in $m^2/Q^2$. Recently, the calculation of fixed Mellin moments of all $3$--loop massive operator matrix elements has been finished. We present new all--$N$ results for the $O(n_f)$--terms, thereby confirming the corresponding parts of the $3$--loop anomalous dimensions. Additionally, we report on first genuine $3$--loop results of the ladder--type diagrams for general values of the Mellin variable $N$.

NNLO Benchmarks for Gauge and Higgs Boson Production at TeV Hadron Colliders

The inclusive production cross sections for $W^+, W^-$ and $Z^0$-bosons form important benchmarks for the physics at hadron colliders. We perform a detailed comparison of the predictions for these standard candles based on recent next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) parton parameterizations and new analyses including the combined HERA data, compare to all available experimental results, and discuss the predictions for present and upcoming RHIC, SPS, Tevatron and LHC energies. The rates for gauge boson production at the LHC can be rather confidently predicted with an accuracy of better than about 10% at NNLO. We also present detailed NNLO predictions for the Higgs boson production cross sections for Tevatron and LHC energies (1.96, 7, 8, 14 TeV), and propose a possible method to monitor the gluon distribution experimentally in the kinematic region close to the mass range expected for the Higgs boson. The production cross sections of the Higgs boson at the LHC are presently predicted with an accuracy of about 10--17%. The inclusion of the NNLO contributions is mandatory for achieving such accuracies since the total uncertainties are substantially larger at NLO.

The 3-, 4-, and 5-flavor NNLO Parton from Deep-Inelastic-Scattering Data and at Hadron Colliders

We determine the parton distribution functions (PDFs) in a next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD-analysis of the inclusive neutral-current deep-inelastic-scattering (DIS) world data combined with the neutri{-}no-nucleon DIS di-muon data and the fixed-target Drell-Yan data. The PDF-evolution is performed in the $N_f = 3$ fixed-flavor scheme and supplementary sets of PDFs in the 4- and 5-flavor schemes are derived from the results in the 3-flavor scheme using matching conditions. The charm-quark DIS contribution is calculated in a general-mass variable-flavor-number (GMVFN) scheme interpolating between the zero-mass 4-flavor scheme at asymptotically large values of momentum transfer $Q^2$ and the 3-flavor scheme prescription of Buza-Matiounine-Smith-van Neerven (BMSN) at the value of $Q^2 = m_c^2$. The results in the GMVFN scheme are compared with those of the fixed-flavor scheme and other prescriptions used in global fits of PDFs. The strong coupling constant is measured at an accuracy of $\approx 1.5%$. We obtain at NNLO $α_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1135 \pm 0.0014$ in the fixed-flavor scheme and $α_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1129 \pm 0.0applying the BMSN-prescription. The implications for important standard candle and hard scattering processes at hadron colliders are illustrated. Predictions for cross sections of $W^{\pm}$- and $Z$-boson, the top-quark pair- and Higgs-boson production at the Tevatron and the LHC based on the 5-flavor PDFs of the present analysis are provided.014$

The O(α_s^3) Massive Operator Matrix Elements of O(n_f) for the Structure Function F_2(x,Q^2) and Transversity

The contributions $\propto n_f$ to the $O(α_s^3)$ massive operator matrix elements describing the heavy flavor Wilson coefficients in the limit $Q^2 \gg m^2$ are computed for the structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$ and transversity for general values of the Mellin variable $N$. Here, for two matrix elements, $A_{qq,Q}^{\sf PS}(N)$ and $A_{qg,Q}(N)$, the complete result is obtained. A first independent computation of the contributions to the 3--loop anomalous dimensions $γ_{qg}(N)$, $γ_{qq}^{\sf PS}(N$ and $γ_{qq}^{\sf NS,(TR)}(N)$ is given. In the computation advanced summation technologies for nested sums over products of hypergeometric terms with harmonic sums have been used. For intermediary results generalized harmonic sums occur, while the final results can be expressed by nested harmonic sums only.

From Moments to Functions in Quantum Chromodynamics

Single-scale quantities, like the QCD anomalous dimensions and Wilson coefficients, obey difference equations. Therefore their analytic form can be determined from a finite number of moments. We demonstrate this in an explicit calculation by establishing and solving large scale recursions by means of computer algebra for the anomalous dimensions and Wilson coefficients in unpolarized deeply inelastic scattering from their Mellin moments to 3-loop order.

The Multiple Zeta Value Data Mine

We provide a data mine of proven results for multiple zeta values (MZVs) of the form $ζ(s_1,s_2,...,s_k)=\sum_{n_1>n_2>...>n_k>0}^\infty \{1/(n_1^{s_1} >... n_k^{s_k})\}$ with weight $w=\sum_{i=1}^k s_i$ and depth $k$ and for Euler sums of the form $\sum_{n_1>n_2>...>n_k>0}^\infty t\{(ε_1^{n_1} >...ε_1 ^{n_k})/ (n_1^{s_1} ... n_k^{s_k}) \}$ with signs $ε_i=\pm1$. Notably, we achieve explicit proven reductions of all MZVs with weights $w\le22$, and all Euler sums with weights $w\le12$, to bases whose dimensions, bigraded by weight and depth, have sizes in precise agreement with the Broadhurst--Kreimer and Broadhurst conjectures. Moreover, we lend further support to these conjectures by studying even greater weights ($w\le30$), using modular arithmetic. To obtain these results we derive a new type of relation for Euler sums, the Generalized Doubling Relations. We elucidate the "pushdown" mechanism, whereby the ornate enumeration of primitive MZVs, by weight and depth, is reconciled with the far simpler enumeration of primitive Euler sums. There is some evidence that this pushdown mechanism finds its origin in doubling relations. We hope that our data mine, obtained by exploiting the unique power of the computer algebra language {\sc form}, will enable the study of many more such consequences of the double-shuffle algebra of MZVs, and their Euler cousins, which are already the subject of keen interest, to practitioners of quantum field theory, and to mathematicians alike.

Mellin Moments of the Next-to-next-to Leading Order Coefficient Functions for the Drell-Yan Process and Hadronic Higgs-Boson Production

We calculate the Mellin moments of the next-to-next-to leading order coefficient functions for the Drell--Yan and Higgs production cross sections. The results can be expressed in terms of multiple finite harmonic sums of maximal weight w = 4. Using algebraic and structural relations between harmonic sums one finds that besides the single harmonic sums only five basic sums and their derivatives w.r.t. the summation index contribute. This representation reduces the large complexity being present in x-space calculations and is well suited for fast numerical implementations.

Polarized Parton Densities

In this talk we summarize main results of a recent determination of the polarized deeply inelastic parton distributions to NLO from the world data. QCD Analysis of Polarized Deep Inelastic Data and Parton Distributions

A QCD analysis of the world data on polarized deep inelastic scattering is presented in leading and next-to-leading order. New parameterizations are derived for the quark and gluon distributions for the kinematic range $x ε[10^{-9},1], Q^2 ε[1,10^6] \GeV^2$. The extrapolation far outside the domain of the current measurements is given both to allow for applications at higher values of $Q^2$ and to be able to calculate integral properties of the present distributions. The values of $Λ_{\rm QCD}$ and $α_s(M_z)$ are determined. Emphasis is put on the derivation of the fully correlated $1σ$ error bands for these distributions, which are also given in terms of parameterizations and are directly applicable to determine experimental errors of other polarized observables. The impact of the variation of both the renormalization and factorization scales on the value of $α_s$ is studied. Finally we perform a factorization--scheme invariant QCD analysis based on the observables $g_1(x,Q^2)$ and $d g_1(x,Q^2)/d \log(Q^2)$ in next-to-leading order, which is compared to the standard analysis. A series of low moments of parton densities, accounting for error correlation, are given to allow for comparison with results from lattice simulations.

Harmonic Sums and Mellin Transforms up to two-loop Order

A systematic study is performed on the finite harmonic sums up to level four. These sums form the general basis for the Mellin transforms of all individual functions $f_i(x)$ of the momentum fraction $x$ emerging in the quantities of massless QED and QCD up to two--loop order, as the unpolarized and polarized splitting functions, coefficient functions, and hard scattering cross sections for space and time-like momentum transfer. The finite harmonic sums are calculated explicitly in the linear representation. Algebraic relations connecting these sums are derived to obtain representations based on a reduced set of basic functions. The Mellin transforms of all the corresponding Nielsen functions are calculated.

Representation of the virtual Compton amplitude for polarized scattering in the generalized Bjorken region

The Compton amplitude is calculated in terms of expectation values of light-ray quark operators. As a technical tool we apply the nonlocal light-cone expansion. Thereby we express the expectation value of the vector light-ray operator with the help of the expectation value of the corresponding scalar operator of twist 2. This allows important simplifications. In the limit of forward scattering the integral relations between the twist-2 contributions of the structure functions are implied directly.

Leptoquark Pair Production in Hadronic Interactions

The scalar and vector leptoquark pair production cross sections in hadronic collisions are calculated.
