Aspects of the gauge boson-gaugino mixing in a supersymmetric scenario with Lorentz-symmetry violation

We write down an $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric extension for non-Abelian gauge theories in (1+3) dimensions with a Lorentz- and CPT-violating term of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw type. By including effects of the background (supersymmetric) fermion bilinears that accompany Lorentz-symmetry violation in a Carroll-Field-Jackiw scenario, we investigate both the gauge boson and gaugino dispersion relations in order to compute their respective masses in terms of the background structures. Such results open up a potential path towards a possible mechanism for gaugino-gauge boson conversion, an analogue of the Primakoff effect, induced here not by an external magnetic field, but instead by the (Majorana) fermionic sector of the supersymmetry multiplet in the backstage of the Lorentz-symmetry violation.

Considerations on anomalous photon and Z-boson self-couplings from the Born-Infeld weak hypercharge action

We investigate the effects of the Born-Infeld action on the Abelian sector of the electroweak model. The consequence of this approach is the emergence of anomalous couplings in the neutral sector of the $Z$-gauge boson and photon. These new couplings consist of quartic interactions of the photon with the $Z$-particle, as for example, three-photon-and-one-$Z$ vertex. With that, we obtain the decay width of $Z \to 3\,γ$ from which we impose a bound on the Born-Infeld parameter. Other bounds are also obtained from the photon quartic couplings. Subsequently, we consider the presence of an external uniform magnetic field in connection with this Born-Infeld weak hypercharge model. The magnetic background field yields new kinematic effects, like the kinetic mixing between the photon and the $Z$-boson, and we obtain thereby the corresponding dispersion relations for the mixed photon-$Z$-particle system. Finally, we calculate the lowest-order modifications to the interaction energy for the anomalous coupling $3γ-Z$, within the framework of the gauge-invariant but path-dependent variables formalism. Our results show that the interaction energy contains a linear term leading to the confinement of static probe charges. With the help of the potential that comes out, interparticle forces are estimated.

Lorentz-symmetry violation in scenarios of non-linear electromagnetic models: a preliminary inspection

In this contribution, our efforts consist in presenting and discussing the status of a paper in progress we are working on to investigate how non-linear electromagnetic effects couple to the parameters that signal Lorentz-symmetry violation (LSV). Here, we realize LSV by means of a specific model, namely Carroll-Field-Jackiw's. We set the formulation by considering a general non-linear photonic Lagrangian (written in terms of the Lorentz-invariant bilinears in the field-strength) that may be coupled to different operators that carry the message of LSV. In possess of the polynomial equation expressing the dispersion relation and the refractive index, one can find the results that express how the (meta)material constitutive properties of the vacuum are affected by the mixing of the parameters that measure LSV with the parameters of the specific non-linear electrodynamic model under consideration. We expect that our efforts might be of interest in connection with the experiments carried out with the existing super-intense LASERs based on chirped pulse amplification.

Phenomenology of a Born-Infeld extension of the $U(1)_{\rm Y}$ sector at lepton colliders

In this work we perform a non-linear extension of the $U(1)_{\rm Y}$ sector of the Standard Model leading to novel quartic effective interactions between the neutral gauge bosons. We study the induced effects through high-energy processes resulting in three photons, namely, Z-boson decay and electron-positron annihilation. Available experimental data on these processes do not yield viable lower bounds on the mass parameter $\sqrtβ$, but we estimate that the range $\sqrtβ \lesssim m_Z$ could be reliably excluded with better statistics in future $e^- e^+$ colliders. We also discuss neutral gauge-boson scatterings, contextualizing our findings with recent results on anomalous quartic gauge couplings.

Casimir Effect at finite temperature for the CPT-even extension of QED

By the thermofield dynamics (TFD) formalism we obtain the energy-momentum tensor for the Electromagnetism with Lorentz Breaking Even term of the Standard Model Extended (SME) Sector in a topology $S^{1}\times S^{1}\times R^{2}$. We carry out the compactification by a generalized TFD-Bogoliubov transformation that is used to define a renormalized energy-momentum tensor, and the Casimir energy and pressure at finite temperature are then derived. A comparative analysis with the electromagnetic case is developed, and we remark the influence of the background in the traditional Casimir effect.

Comparative aspects of spin-dependent interaction potentials for spin-1/2 and spin-1 matter fields

This paper sets out to establish a comparative study between classes of spin- and velocity-dependent potentials for spin-1/2 and spin-1 matter currents/sources in the non-relativistic regime. Both (neutral massive) scalar and vector particles are considered to mediate the interactions between (pseudo-)scalar sources or (pseudo-)vector currents. Though our discussion is more general, we contemplate specific cases in which our results may describe the electromagnetic interaction with a massive (Proca-type) photon exchanged between two spin-1/2 or two spin-1 carriers. We highlight the similarities and peculiarities of the potentials for the two different types of charged matter and also focus our attention on the comparison between the particular aspects of two different field representations for spin-1 matter particles. We believe that our results may contribute to a further discussion of the relation between charge, spin and extensibility of elementary particles.

A 3-form Gauge Potential in 5D in connection with a Possible Dark Sector of 4D-Electrodynamics

We here propose a 5-dimensional {\bf Abelian gauge} model based on the mixing between a $U(1)$ potential and an Abelian 3-form field by means of a topological mass term. An extended covariant derivative is introduced to minimally couple a Dirac field to the $U(1)$ potential, while this same covariant derivative non-minimally couples the 3-form field to the charged fermion. A number of properties are discussed in 5D; in particular, the appearance of a topological fermionic current. A 4-dimensional reduced version of the model is investigated and, { \bf in addition to the $U(1)$ electric- and magnetic-sort of fields,} there emerges an extra set of electric- and magnetic-like fields which contribute a negative pressure and may be identified as a possible fraction of dark energy. The role of the topological fermionic current is also contemplated upon dimensional reduction from 5D to 4D. Other issues we present in 4 space-time dimensions are the emergence {\bf of a pseudo-scalar massive particle,} an extra massive neutral gauge boson,{\bf which we interpret as a kind of paraphoton}, and the calculation of spin- and velocity-dependent interparticle potentials associated to the exchange of the intermediate bosonic fields of the model.

On a connection between a class of q-deformed algebras and the Hausdorff derivative in a medium with fractal metric

Over the recent decades, diverse formalisms have emerged that are adopted to approach complex systems. Amongst those, we may quote the q-calculus in Tsallis' version of Non-Extensive Statistics with its undeniable success whenever applied to a wide class of different systems; Kaniadakis' approach, based on the compatibility between relativity and thermodynamics; Fractional Calculus (FC), that deals with the dynamics of anomalous transport and other natural phenomena, and also some local versions of FC that claim to be able to study fractal and multifractal spaces and to describe dynamics in these spaces by means of fractional differential equations. The question we might ask is whether or not there are common aspects that connect these alternative approaches. In this short communication, we discuss a possible relationship between q-deformed algebras in two different contexts of Statistical Mechanics, namely, the Tsallis' framework and the Kaniadakis' scenario, with local form of fractional-derivative operators defined in fractal media, the so-called Hausdorff derivatives, mapped into a continuous medium with a fractal measure. This connection opens up new perspectives for theories that satisfactorily describe the dynamics for the transport in media with fractal metrics, such as porous or granular media. Possible connections with other alternative definitions of FC are also contempled. Insights on complexity connected to concepts like coarse-grained space-time and physics in general are pointed out.

Topologically Massive Spin-1 Particles and Spin-Dependent Potentials

We investigate the role played by particular field representations of an intermediate massive spin-1 boson in the context of spin-dependent interparticle potentials between fermionic sources in the limit of low momentum transfer. The comparison between the well-known case of the Proca field and that of an exchanged spin-1 boson (with gauge-invariant mass) described by a 2-form potential mixed with a 4-vector gauge field is established in order to pursue an analysis of spin- as well as velocity-dependent profiles of the interparticle potentials. We discuss possible applications and derive an upper bound on the product of vector and pseudo-tensor coupling constants.

The photino sector and a confining potential in a supersymetric Lorentz-symmetry-violating model

We study the spectrum of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Carroll-Field-Jackiw model for Electrodynamics with a topological Chern-Simons-like Lorentz-symmetry violating term. We identify a number of independent background fermion condensates, work out the gaugino dispersion relation and propose a photonic effective action to consider aspects of confinement induced by the SUSY background fermion condensates, which also appear to signal Lorentz-symmetry violation in the photino sector of the action. Our calculations of the static potential are carried out within the framework of the gauge-invariant but path-dependent variables formalism which are alternative to the Wilson loop approach. Our results show that the interaction energy contains a linear term leading to the confinement of static probe charges.

Aspects of the Coarse-Grained-Based Approach to a Low-Relativistic Fractional Schrödinger Equation

The main goal of this paper is to set up the coarse-grained formulation of a fractional Schrödinger equation that incorporates a higher (spatial) derivative term which accounts for relativistic effects at a lowest order. The corresponding continuity equation is worked out and we also identify the contribution of the relativistic correction the quantum potential in the coarse-grained treatment. As a consequence, in the classical regime, we derive the sort of fractional Newtonian law with the quantum potential included and the fractional conterparts of the De Broglies's energy and momentum relations.

Extending the D'Alembert Solution to Space-Time Modified Riemann-Liouville Fractional Wave Equations

In the realm of complexity, it is argued that adequate modeling of TeV-physics demands an approach based on fractal operators and fractional calculus (FC). Non-local theories and memory effects are connected to complexity and the FC. The non-differentiable nature of the microscopic dynamics may be connected with time scales. Based on the Modified Riemann-Liouville definition of fractional derivatives, we have worked out explicit solutions to a fractional wave equation with suitable initial conditions to carefully understand the time evolution of classical fields with a fractional dynamics. First, by considering space-time partial fractional derivatives of the same order in time and space, a generalized fractional D'Alembertian is introduced and by means of a transformation of variables to light-cone coordinates, an explicit analytical solution is obtained. To address the situation of different orders in the time and space derivatives, we adopt different approaches, as it will become clear throughout the paper. Aspects connected to Lorentz symmetry are analyzed in both approaches.

N=1-Supersymmetric Description of a Spin-1/2 charged Particle in a 5d-World

We study the dynamics of a charged spin-1/2 particle in an external 5-dimensional electromagnetic field. We then consider that we are at the $TeV$\ scale, so that we can access the fifth dimension and carry out our physical considerations in a 5-dimensional brane. In this brane, we focus our attention to the quantum-mechanical dynamics of a charged particle minimally coupled to the 5-dimensional electromagnetic field. We propose a way to identify the Abraham-Lorentz back reaction force as an effect of the extra (fifth) dimension. Also, a sort of dark matter behavior can be identified in a particular regime of the dynamics of the particle interacting with the bulk electric field.

New class of spin projection operators for 3D models

A new set of projection operators for three-dimensional models are constructed. Using these operators, an uncomplicated and easily handling algorithm for analysing the unitarity of the aforementioned systems is built up. Interestingly enough, this method converts the task of probing the unitarity of a given 3D system, that is in general a time-consuming work, into a straightforward algebraic exercise; besides, it also greatly clarifies the physical interpretation of the propagating modes. In order to test the efficacy and quickness of the algorithm at hand, the unitarity of some important and timely higher-order electromagnetic (gravitational) systems augmented by both Chern-Simons and higher order Chern-Simons terms are investigated.

Probing the Effects of Lorentz-Symmetry Violating Chern-Simons and Ricci-Cotton Terms in Higher Derivative Gravity

The combined effects of the Lorentz-symmetry violating Chern-Simons and Ricci-Cotton actions are investigated for the Einstein-Hilbert gravity in the second order formalism modified by higher derivative terms, and their consequences on the spectrum of excitations are analyzed. We follow the lines of previous works and build up an orthonormal basis of operators that splits the fundamental fields according to their individual degrees of freedom. With this new basis, the attainment of the propagators is remarkably simplified and the identification of the physical and unphysical modes gets a new insight. Our conclusion is that the only tachyon- and ghost-free model is the Einstein-Hilbert action added up by the Chern-Simons term with a time-like vector of the type $v^μ = (μ,\vec{0})$. Spectral consistency imposes taht the Ricci-Cotton term must be switched off. We then infer that gravity with Lorentz-symmetry violation imposes a drastically different constraint on the background if compared to usual gauge theories whenever conditions for suppression of tachyons and ghosts are required.

Supergraph Approach in a Higher-order LDE Calculation of the Effective Potential for F-type Broken SUSY

In this work, we adopt the simplest model that spontaneously breaks supersymmetry, namely, the minimal O'Raifeartaigh model. The effective potential is computed in the framework of the linear delta expansion (LDE) approach up to the order $δ^2$, conjugated with superspace and supergraph techniques. The latter can be duly mastered even if supersymmetry is no longer exact and the efficacy of the superfield approach in connection with the LDE procedure is confirmed according to our investigation. That opens up a way for a semi-nonperturbative superspace computation which allows us to deal with spontaneously broken supersymmetric models and encourages us to go further and apply this treatment to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) precision tests.

Superspace approach to the renormalization of the O'Raifeartaigh model up to the second order in the LDE parameter

We adopt a superspace/supergraph formalism to pursue the investigation of the structure of one- and two-loop divergences in the frame of the minimal O'Raifeartaigh model that realizes the F-term spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. The linear delta expansion(LDE) procedure is introduced and renormalization is carried out up to the second order in the LDE expansion parameter. In agreement with the nonrenormalization theorem for the (chiral/antichiral) matter potential of ${\mathcal N}=1, \ D=4$ supersymmetry, our explicit supergraph calculations confirm that only the Kähler potential is actually renomalized.

A Discussion on Massive Gravitons and Propagating Torsion in Arbitrary Dimensions

In this paper, we reassess a particular $R^{2}$-type gravity action in D dimensions, recently studied by Nakasone and Oda, taking now torsion effects into account. Considering that the vielbein and the spin connection carry independent propagating degrees of freedom, we conclude that ghosts and tachyons are absent only if torsion is non-propagating, and we also conclude that there is no room for massive gravitons. To include these excitations, we understand how to enlarge Nakasone-Oda's model by means of explicit torsion terms in the action and we discuss the unitarity of the enlarged model for arbitrary dimensions.

An Investigation of the $K_{F}$-type Lorentz-Symmetry Breaking Gauge Models in $N=1$-Supersymmetric Scenario

In this work, we present two possible venues to accomodate the $K_{F}$-type Lorentz-symmetry violating Electrodynamics in an $N=1$-supersymmetric framework. A chiral and a vector superfield are chosen to describe the background that signals Lorentz-symmetry breaking. In each case, the $\ K_{μνκλ}$-tensor is expressed in terms of the components of the background superfield that we choose to describe the breaking. We also present in detail the actions with all fermionic partners of the background that determine $\ K_{μνκλ}$.

Casimir Effect at finite temperature for the Kalb-Ramond field

We use the thermofield dynamics (TFD) formalism to obtain the energy-momentum tensor for the Kalb-Ramond (KR) field in a topology $% S^{1}\times S^{1}\times R^{2}$. The compactification is carried out by a generalized TFD-Bogoliubov transformation that is used to define a renormalized energy-momentum tensor. The expressions for the Casimir energy and pressure at finite temperature are then derived. A comparative analysis with the electromagnetic case is developed, and the results may be important for applications, as in cuprate superconductivity, for instance.

Chern-Simons Gravity with (Curvature)$^{2}$- and (Torsion)$^{2}$-Terms and A Basis of Degree-of-Freedom Projection Operators

We investigate the effects of (Curvature)$^{2}$- and (Torsion)$^{2}$- terms in the Einstein-Hilbert-Chern-Simons Lagrangian. The purposes are two-fold: (i) to show the efficacy of an orthogonal basis of degree-of-freedom projection operators recently proposed and to ascertain its adequacy for obtaining propagators of general parity-breaking gravity models in three dimensions; (ii) to analyze the role of the topological Chern-Simons term for the unitarity and the particle spectrum of the model squared-curvature terms in connection with dynamical torsion. Our conclusion is that the Chern-Simons term does not influence the unitarity conditions imposed on the parameters of the Lagrangian, but significantly modifies the particle spectrum.

Superspace evaluation of the two-loop effective potential for the O'Raifeartaigh model

All-order spurion-corrected superpropagators and superfield Feynman rules are employed to systematically compute a two-loop corrected effective potential for the O'Raifeartaigh model, that realizes spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. Though the shifted superpropagators are rather nontrivial, superspace techniques may be suitably extended and confirm their efficacy in computing radiative corrections even when supersymmetry breakdown occurs.

Linear delta expansion applied to the O'Raifeartaigh model

We reassess the method of the linear delta expansion for the calculation of effective potentials in superspace, by adopting the improved version of the super-Feynman rules in the framework of the O'Raifeartaigh model for spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. The effective potential is calculated using both the fastest apparent convergence and the principle of minimal sensitivity criteria and the consistency and efficacy of the method are checked in deriving the Coleman-Weinberg potential.

Classical Solutions in a Lorentz-violating Maxwell-Chern-Simons Electrodynamics

We take as starting point the planar model arising from the dimensional reduction of the Maxwell Electrodynamics with the (Lorentz-violating) Carroll-Field-Jackiw term. We then write and study the extended Maxwell equations and the corresponding wave equations for the potentials. The solution to these equations show some interesting deviations from the usual MCS Electrodynamics, with background-dependent correction terms. In the case of a time-like background, the correction terms dominate over the MCS sector in the region far from the origin, and establish the behaviour of a massless Electrodynamics (in the electric sector). In the space-like case, the solutions indicate the clear manifestation of spatial anisotropy, which is consistent with the existence of a privileged direction is space.

Dual embedding of the Lorentz-violating electrodinamics and Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization

Modifications of the electromagnetic Maxwell Lagrangian in four dimensions have been considered by some authors. One may include an explicit massive term (Proca) and a topological but not Lorentz-invariant term within certain observational limits. We find the dual-corresponding gauge invariant version of this theory by using the recently suggested gauge embedding method. We enforce this dualisation procedure by showing that, in many cases, this is actually a constructive method to find a sort of parent action, which manifestly establishes duality. We also use the gauge invariant version of this theory to formulate a Batalin-Vilkovisky quantization and present a detailed discussion on the excitation spectrum.

In this letter the algebraic renormalization method, which is independent of any kind of regularization scheme, is presented for the parity-preserving QED_3 coupled to scalar matter in the symmetric regime, where the scalar assumes vanishing vacuum expectation value, $<ϕ>=0$. The model shows to be stable under radiative corrections and anomaly free.

The model shows to be stable under radiative corrections and anomaly free.
