Effects of $CP$-violating internucleon interactions in paramagnetic molecules

We demonstrate that electron electric dipole moment experiments with molecules in paramagnetic state are sensitive to $P,T$-violating nuclear forces and other $CP$-violating parameters in the hadronic sector. These experiments, in particular, measure the coupling constant $C_{SP}$ of the $CP$-odd contact semileptonic interaction. We establish relations between $C_{SP}$ and different $CP$-violating hadronic parameters including strength constants of the $CP$-odd nuclear potentials, $CP$-odd pion-nucleon interactions, quark-chromo EDM and QCD vacuum angle. These relations allow us to find limits on various $CP$-odd hadronic parameters.

Electric field on nucleus due to phonon lattice oscillations in solid states

In atoms and molecules, the electrons screen the nucleus from the external electric field. However, if the frequency of the electric field reaches the energy of atomic or molecular transition, the electric field at the nucleus may be resonantly enhanced by many orders in magnitude. In this paper, we study the mechanisms of screening or enhancement of electric field acting on the nuclei in solid states. We show that in dielectric crystals the phonon oscillations of the lattice play crucial role for determining the electric field on nuclei in the MHz-THz region. As an application, we propose an experimental scheme for measuring nuclear electric dipole moment in a solid state based on the coherent excitation of acoustic phonons.

Gauge and matter superfield theories on $S^2$

We develop a superfield formulation of gauge and matter field theories on a two-dimensional sphere with rigid N=(2,2) as well as extended supersymmetry. The construction is based on a supercoset SU(2|1)/[U(1) x U(1)] containing $S^2$ as the bosonic subspace. We derive an explicit form of supervielbein and covariant derivatives on this coset, and use them to construct classical superfield actions for gauge and matter supermultiplets in this superbackground. We then apply superfield methods for computing one-loop partition functions of these theories and demonstrate how the localization technique works directly in the superspace.

Superfield theories on $S^3$ and their localization

We consider the superfield formulation of supersymmetric gauge and matter field theories on a three-dimensional sphere with rigid ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetry, as well as with ${\cal N}> 2$. The construction is based on a supercoset $SU(2|1)/U(1)$ containing $S^3$ as the bosonic subspace. We derive an explicit form of $SU(2|1)/U(1)$ supervielbein and covariant derivatives, and use them to construct classical superfield actions for gauge and matter supermultiplets in this superbackground. We then apply superfield methods for computing one-loop partition functions of these theories and demonstrate how the localization technique works directly in the superspace.

Two-loop low-energy effective action in Abelian supersymmetric Chern-Simons matter models

We compute two-loop low-energy effective actions in Abelian Chern-Simons matter models with N=2 and N=3 supersymmetry up to four-derivative order. Calculations are performed with a slowly-varying gauge superfield background. Though the gauge superfield propagator depends on the gauge fixing parameter, it is shown that the obtained results are independent of this parameter. In the massless case the considered models are superconformal. We demonstrate that the superconformal symmetry strongly restricts the form of two-loop quantum corrections to the effective actions such that the obtained terms have simpler structure than the analogous ones in the effective action of three-dimensional supersymmetric electrodynamics (SQED) with vanishing topological mass.

Two-loop low-energy effective actions in N=2 and N=4 three-dimensional SQED

We study two-loop Euler-Heisenberg effective actions in three-dimensional N=2 and N=4 supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics (SQED) without Chern-Simons term. We find exact expressions for propagators of chiral superfields interacting with slowly-varying N=2 gauge superfield. Using these propagators we compute two-loop effective actions in the N=2 and N=4 SQED as the functionals of superfield strengths and their covariant spinor derivatives. The obtained effective actions contain new terms having no four-dimensional analogs. As an application, we find two-loop quantum corrections to the moduli space metric in the N=2 SQED.

Background field formalism and construction of effective action for N=2, d=3 supersymmetric gauge theories

We review the background field method for three-dimensional Yang-Mills and Chern-Simons models in N=2 superspace. Superfield proper time (heat kernel) techniques are developed and exact expressions of heat kernels for constant backgrounds are presented. The background field method and heat kernel techniques are applied for evaluating the low-energy effective actions in N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills and Chern-Simons models as well as in N=4 and N=8 SYM theories.

Superconformal N=3 SYM Low-Energy Effective Action

We construct a manifestly N=3 supersymmetric low-energy effective action of N=3 super Yang-Mills theory. The effective action is written in the N=3 harmonic superspace and respects the full N=3 superconformal symmetry. On mass shell this action is responsible for the four-derivative terms in the N=4 SYM effective action, such as F^4/X^4 and its supersymmetric completions, while off shell it involves also higher-derivative terms. For constant Maxwell and scalar fields its bosonic part coincides, up to the F^6/X^8 order, with the bosonic part of the D3 brane action in the AdS_5 x S^5 background. We also argue that in the sector of scalar fields it involves the correctly normalized Wess-Zumino term with the implicit SU(3) symmetry.

Two-loop effective potentials in general N=2, d=3 chiral superfield model

We study local superspace contributions to low-energy effective action in general chiral three-dimensional superfield model. The effective Kahler and chiral potentials are computed in explicit form up to the two-loop order. In accordance with the non-renormalization theorem, the ultraviolet divergences appear only in the full superspace while the effective chiral potential receives only finite quantum contributions in the massless case. As an application, the two-loop effective scalar potential is found for the three-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric Wess-Zumino model.

Effective action of three-dimensional extended supersymmetric matter on gauge superfield background

We study the low-energy effective actions for gauge superfields induced by quantum N=2 and N=4 supersymmetric matter fields in three-dimensional Minkowski space. Analyzing the superconformal invariants in the N=2 superspace we propose a general form of the N=2 gauge invariant and superconformal effective action. The leading terms in this action are fixed by the symmetry up to the coefficients while the higher order terms with respect to the Maxwell field strength are found up to one arbitrary function of quasi-primary N=2 superfields constructed from the superfield strength and its covariant spinor derivatives. Then we find this function and the coefficients by direct quantum computations in the N=2 superspace. The effective action of N=4 gauge multiplet is obtained by generalizing the N=2 effective action.

Low-energy effective actions in three-dimensional extended SYM theories

We develop the background field method in the N=2, d=3 superspace for studying effective actions in three-dimensional SYM models which live in the world-volume of various 2-branes. In particular, the low-energy effective action for the N=2 quiver gauge theory with four chiral superfields in the bifundamental representation is studied. This gauge theory describes the D2 brane probing the conifold singularity. Surprisingly, the leading terms in this effective action reproduce the classical action of the Abelian ABJM theory confirming the fact that the M2 brane can be considered as the effective theory for the D2 brane at strong coupling. Apart from this N=2 quiver gauge theory we study the low-energy effective action in pure N=2, N=4 and N=8 SYM theories with gauge group SU(N) spontaneously broken down to an Abelian subgroup. In particular, for the N=4 SYM we find similar correspondence between the leading terms in its effective action and the classical action of the Abelian Gaiotto-Witten theory.

ABJM models in N=3 harmonic superspace

We construct the classical action of the Aharony-Bergman-Jafferis-Maldacena (ABJM) model in the N=3, d=3 harmonic superspace. In such a formulation three out of six supersymmetries are realized off shell while the other three mix the superfields and close on shell. The superfield action involves two hypermultiplet superfields in the bifundamental representation of the gauge group and two Chern-Simons gauge superfields corresponding to the left and right gauge groups. The N=3 superconformal invariance allows only for a minimal gauge interaction of the hypermultiplets. Amazingly, the correct sextic scalar potential of ABJM emerges after the elimination of auxiliary fields. Besides the original U(N)xU(N) ABJM model, we also construct N=3 superfield formulations of some generalizations. For the SU(2)xSU(2) case we give a simple superfield proof of its enhanced N=8 supersymmetry and SO(8) R-symmetry.

N=4 superparticle and super Yang-Mills theory in USp(4) harmonic superspace

We study the N=4 harmonic superparticle model, both with and without central charge and quantize it. Since the central charge breaks the U(4) R-symmetry group of the N=4 superalgebra down to USp(4), we consider the superparticle dynamics in N=4 harmonic superspace with USp(4)/(U(1)xU(1)) harmonic variables. We show that the quantization of a massive superparticle with central charge leads to a superfield realization of the N=4 massive vector multiplet in N=4 harmonic superspace. In the massless case without central charge the superparticle quantization reproduces three different multiplets: the N=4 SYM multiplet, the N=4 gravitino multiplet and N=4 supergravity multiplet. The SYM multiplet is described by six analytic superfield strengths with different types of analyticity. We show that these strengths solve the N=4 SYM constraints and can be used for the construction of actions in N=4 harmonic superspace.

Renormalizability of non-anticommutative N=(1,1) theories with singlet deformation

We study the quantum properties of two theories with a non-anticommutative (or nilpotent) chiral singlet deformation of N=(1,1) supersymmetry: the abelian model of a vector gauge multiplet and the model of a gauge multiplet interacting with a neutral hypermultiplet. In spite of the presence of a negative-mass-dimension coupling constant (deformation parameter), both theories are shown to be finite in the sense that the full effective action is one-loop exact and contains finitely many divergent terms, which vanish on-shell. The beta-function for the coupling constant is equal to zero. The divergencies can all be removed off shell by a redefinition of one of the two scalar fields of the gauge multiplet. These notable quantum properties are tightly related to the existence of a Seiberg-Witten-type transformation in both models.

On Low-Energy Effective Action of Noncommutative Hypermultiplet Model

We consider the noncommutative hypermultiplet model within harmonic superspace approach. The 1-loop four-point contributions to the effective action of selfinteracting q-hypermultiplet are computed. This model has two coupling constants instead of a single one in commutative case. It is shown that both these coupling constants are generated by 1-loop quantum corrections in the model of q-hypermultiplet interacting with vector multiplet. The holomorphic effective action of q-hypermultiplet in external gauge superfield is calculated. For the fundamental representation there is no UV/IR-mixing and the holomorphic potential is a star-product generalization of a standard commutative one. For the adjoint representation of U(N) gauge group the leading contributions to the holomorphic effective action are given by the terms respecting for the UV/IR-mixing which are related to U(1) phase of U(N) group.
