Diagonal Adaptive Non-local Observables on Quantum Neural Networks

Adaptive Non-local Observables (ANOs) have shown that making quantum observables dynamic can substantially enlarge the function space of Variational Quantum Algorithms, partly shifting hardware demands from circuit synthesis to measurement design. However, this advantage is accompanied by a steep increase in the number of parameters, as well as the classical optimization cost for varying general Hermitian observables. We propose a special form of ANO that significantly reduces this burden by considering only diagonal observables paired with quantum circuits. Mathematically, this is equivalent to the full ANO of a large parameter space since diagonal matrices are canonical representatives of the ANO space modulo unitary similarity. As a result, Diagonal ANO retains the same capability of full ANO while reducing $k$-local observable complexity from $O(4^k)$ to $O(2^k)$ and lowering the corresponding measurement-side classical computation. In this sense, diagonal ANO preserves much of the benefit of full ANO while encompassing conventional VQCs as a special case.

Boosting Self-Supervised Embeddings for Speech Enhancement

Self-supervised learning (SSL) representation for speech has achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on several downstream tasks. However, there remains room for improvement in speech enhancement (SE) tasks. In this study, we used a cross-domain feature to solve the problem that SSL embeddings may lack fine-grained information to regenerate speech signals. By integrating the SSL representation and spectrogram, the result can be significantly boosted. We further study the relationship between the noise robustness of SSL representation via clean-noisy distance (CN distance) and the layer importance for SE. Consequently, we found that SSL representations with lower noise robustness are more important. Furthermore, our experiments on the VCTK-DEMAND dataset demonstrated that fine-tuning an SSL representation with an SE model can outperform the SOTA SSL-based SE methods in PESQ, CSIG and COVL without invoking complicated network architectures. In later experiments, the CN distance in SSL embeddings was observed to increase after fine-tuning. These results verify our expectations and may help design SE-related SSL training in the future.

Kaluza-Klein theory for teleparallel gravity

We study teleparallel gravity in the \emph{original} Kaluza-Klein (KK) scenario. Our calculation of the KK reduction of teleparallel gravity indicates that the 5-dimensional torsion scalar $^{(5)}T$ generates the non-Brans-Dicke type effective Lagrangian in 4-dimension due to an additional coupling between the derivative of the scalar field and torsion, but the result is equivalent to that in general relativity. We also discuss the cosmological behavior in the FLRW universe based on the effective teleparallel gravity.

Teleparallel Gravity in Five Dimensional Theories

We study teleparallel gravity in five-dimensional spacetime with particular discussions on Kaluza-Klein (KK) and braneworld theories. We directly perform the dimensional reduction by differential forms. In the braneworld theory, the teleparallel gravity formalism in the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker cosmology is equivalent to GR due to the same Friedmann equation, whereas in the KK case the reduction of our formulation does not recover the effect as GR of 4-dimensional spacetime.

Asymptotic Cosmological Behavior of Scalar-Torsion Mode in Poincare Gauge Theory

We study the cosmological effect of the simple scalar-torsion ($0^+$) mode in Poincaré gauge theory of gravity. We find that for the non-constant (affine) curvature case, the early evolution of the torsion density $ρ_T$ has a radiation-like asymptotic behavior of $a^{-4}$ with $a$ representing the scale factor, along with the stable point of the torsion pressure ($P_T$) and density ratio $P_T/ρ_T\rightarrow 1/3$ in the high redshift regime $(z \gg 0)$, which is different from the previous result in the literature. We use the Laurent expansion to resolve the solution. We also illustrate our result by the execution of numerical computations.

Scalar-Torsion Mode in a Cosmological Model of the Poincaré Gauge Theory of Gravity

We investigate the equation of state (EoS) of the scalar-torsion mode in Poincaré gauge theory of gravity. We concentrate on two cases with the constant curvature solution and positive kinetic energy, respectively. In the former, we find that the torsion EoS has different values in the various stages of the universe. In particular, it behaves like the radiation (matter) EoS of $w_r=1/3$ ($w_m=0$) in the radiation (matter) dominant epoch, while in the late time the torsion density is supportive for the accelerating universe. In the latter, our numerical analysis shows that in general the EoS has an asymptotic behavior in the high redshift regime, while it could cross the phantom divide line in the low redshift regime.
