SubFace: Learning with Softmax Approximation for Face Recognition

The softmax-based loss functions and its variants (e.g., cosface, sphereface, and arcface) significantly improve the face recognition performance in wild unconstrained scenes. A common practice of these algorithms is to perform optimizations on the multiplication between the embedding features and the linear transformation matrix. However in most cases, the dimension of embedding features is given based on traditional design experience, and there is less-studied on improving performance using the feature itself when giving a fixed size. To address this challenge, this paper presents a softmax approximation method called SubFace, which employs the subspace feature to promote the performance of face recognition. Specifically, we dynamically select the non-overlapping subspace features in each batch during training, and then use the subspace features to approximate full-feature among softmax-based loss, so the discriminability of the deep model can be significantly enhanced for face recognition. Comprehensive experiments conducted on benchmark datasets demonstrate that our method can significantly improve the performance of vanilla CNN baseline, which strongly proves the effectiveness of subspace strategy with the margin-based loss.

On a subset sums problem of Chen and Wu

For a set $A$, let $P(A)$ be the set of all finite subset sums of $A$. We prove that if a sequence $B=\{11\leq b_1<b_2<\cdots\}$ satisfies $b_2=3b_1+5$, $b_3=3b_2+2$ and $b_{n+1}=3b_n+4b_{n-1}$ for all $n\geq 3$, then there is a sequence of positive integers $A=\{a_1<a_2<\cdots\}$ such that $P(A)=\mathbb{N}\setminus B$. This result shows that the answer to the problem of Chen and Wu [`The inverse problem on subset sums', European. J. Combin. 34(2013), 841-845] is negative.

On an inverse problem in additive number theory

For a set $A$, let $P(A)$ be the set of all finite subset sums of $A$. In this paper, for a sequence of integers $B=\{1<b_1<b_2<\cdots\}$ and $3b_1+5\leq b_2\leq 6b_1+10$, we determine the critical value for $b_3$ such that there exists an infinite sequence $A$ of positive integers for which $P(A)=\mathbb{N}\setminus B$. This result shows that we partially solve the problem of Fang and Fang [`On an inverse problem in additive number theory', Acta Math. Hungar. 158(2019), 36-39].

Mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in complex projective spaces

In this paper, we investigate the mean curvature flow of submanifolds of arbitrary codimension in $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^m$. We prove that if the initial submanifold satisfies a pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as $t \rightarrow \infty$. Consequently, we obtain a new differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^m$. Our work improves the convergence theorem for mean curvature flow due to Pipoli and Sinestrari {\cite{PiSi2015}}.

New result on Chern conjecture for minimal hypersurfaces and its application

We verify that if $M$ is a compact minimal hypersurface in $\mathbb{S}^{n+1}$ whose squared length of the second fundamental form satisfying $0\leq |A|^2-n\leq\frac{n}{22}$, then $|A|^2\equiv n$ and $M$ is a Clifford torus. Moreover, we prove that if $M$ is a complete self-shrinker with polynomial volume growth in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ whose equation is given by (\ref{selfshr}), and if the squared length of the second fundamental form of $M$ satisfies $0\leq|A|^2-1\leq\frac{1}{21}$, then $|A|^2\equiv1$ and $M$ is a round sphere or a cylinder. Our results improve the rigidity theorems due to Q. Ding and Y. L. Xin \cite{DX1,DX2}.

A New Version of Huisken's Convergence Theorem for Mean Curvature Flow in Spheres

We prove that if the initial hypersurface of the mean curvature flow in spheres satisfies a sharp pinching condition, then the solution of the flow converges to a round point or a totally geodesic sphere. Our result improves the famous convergence theorem due to Huisken [9]. Moreover, we prove a convergence theorem under the weakly pinching condition. In particular, we obtain a classification theorem for weakly pinched hypersurfaces. It should be emphasized that our pinching condition implies that the Ricci curvature of the initial hypersurface is positive, but does not imply positivity of the sectional curvature.

An Eigenvalue Pinching Theorem for Compact Hypersurfaces in A Sphere

In this article, we prove an eigenvalue pinching theorem for the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian on compact hypersurfaces in a sphere. Let $(M^n,g)$ be a closed, connected and oriented Riemannian manifold isometrically immersed by $ϕ$ into $§^{n+1}$. Let $q>n$ and $A>0$ be some real numbers satisfying $|M|^\frac{1}{n}(1+\|B\|_q)\leq A$. Suppose that $ϕ(M)\subset B(p_0,R)$, where $p_0$ is a center of gravity of $M$ and radius $R<\fracπ{2}$. We prove that there exists a positive constant $\e$ depending on $q$, $n$, $R$ and $A$ such that if $n(1+\|H\|_\infty^2)-\e\leq ł_1$, then $M$ is diffeomorphic to $§^n$. Furthermore, $ϕ(M)$ is starshaped with respect to $p_0$, Hausdorff close and almost-isometric to the geodesic sphere $S\(p_0,R_0\)$, where $R_0=\arcsin\frac{1}{\sqrt{1+\|H\|_\infty^2}}$.

An Optimal Convergence Theorem for Mean Curvature Flow of Arbitrary Codimension in Hyperbolic Spaces

In this paper, we prove that if the initial submanifold $M_0$ of dimension $n(\ge6)$ satisfies an optimal pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in hyperbolic spaces converges to a round point in finite time. In particular, we obtain the optimal differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in hyperbolic spaces. It should be emphasized that our pinching condition implies that the Ricci curvature of the initial submanifold is positive, but does not imply positivity of the sectional curvature of $M_0$.

Mean curvature flow of higher codimension in Riemannian manifolds

We investigate the convergence of the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in Riemannian manifolds with bounded geometry. We prove that if the initial submanifold satisfies a pinching condition, then along the mean curvature flow the submanifold contracts smoothly to a round point in finite time. As a consequence we obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.

The extension and convergence of mean curvature flow in higher codimension

In this paper, we first investigate the integral curvature condition to extend the mean curvature flow of submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold with codimension $d\geq1$, which generalizes the extension theorem for the mean curvature flow of hypersurfaces due to Le-Šešum \cite{LS} and the authors \cite{XYZ1,XYZ2}. Using the extension theorem, we prove two convergence theorems for the mean curvature flow of closed submanifolds in ${R}^{n+d}$ under suitable integral curvature conditions.
