Robopheus: A Virtual-Physical Interactive Mobile Robotic Testbed

The mobile robotic testbed is an essential and critical support to verify the effectiveness of mobile robotics research. This paper introduces a novel multi-robot testbed, named Robopheus, which exploits the ideas of virtual-physical modeling in digital-twin. Unlike most existing testbeds, the developed Robopheus constructs a bridge that connects the traditional physical hardware and virtual simulation testbeds, providing scalable, interactive, and high-fidelity simulations-tests on both sides. Another salient feature of the Robopheus is that it enables a new form to learn the actual models from the physical environment dynamically and is compatible with heterogeneous robot chassis and controllers. In turn, the virtual world's learned models are further leveraged to approximate the robot dynamics online on the physical side. Extensive experiments demonstrate the extraordinary performance of the Robopheus. Significantly, the physical-virtual interaction design increases the trajectory accuracy of a real robot by 300%, compared with that of not using the interaction.

Improved quantum algorithm for the random subset sum problem

Solving random subset sum instances plays an important role in constructing cryptographic systems. For the random subset sum problem, in 2013 Bernstein et al. proposed a quantum algorithm with heuristic time complexity $\widetilde{O}(2^{0.241n})$, where the "$\widetilde{O}$" symbol is used to omit poly($\log n$) factors. In 2018, Helm and May proposed another quantum algorithm that reduces the heuristic time and memory complexity to $\widetilde{O}(2^{0.226n})$. In this paper, a new quantum algorithm is proposed, with heuristic time and memory complexity $\widetilde{O}(2^{0.209n})$.

Multicolor Graphdiyne Random Lasers

By breaking the restriction of mirrors, random lasers from a disordered medium have found unique applications spanning from displays, spectroscopy, biomedical treatments, to Li-Fi.Gain media in the form of two-dimension with distinct physical and chemical properties may lead to the next-generation of random lasers. Graphdiyne, a 2D graphene allotrope with intrigued carbon hybridization, atomic lattice, and optoelectronic properties, has attracted increasing attention recently. Herein, the photon emission characteristics and photo-carrier dynamics in graphdiyne are systematically studied, and the multicolor random lasers have been unprecedently realized using graphdiyne nanosheets as the gain. Considering the well bio-compatibility of graphdiyne, these results may look ahead a plethora of potential applications in the nanotechnology platform based on graphdiyne.

Three-Dimensional Projective Geometry with Geometric Algebra

The line geometric model of 3-D projective geometry has the nice property that the Lie algebra sl(4) of 3-D projective transformations is isomorphic to the bivector algebra of CL(3,3), and line geometry is closely related to the classical screw theory for 3-D rigid-body motions. The canonical homomorphism from SL(4) to Spin(3,3) is not satisfying because it is not surjective, and the projective transformations of negative determinant do induce orthogonal transformations in the Plücker coordinate space of lines. This paper presents our contributions in developing a rigorous and convenient algebraic framework for the study of 3-D projective geometry with Clifford algebra. To overcome the unsatisfying defects of the Plücker correspondence, we propose a group Pin^{sp}(3,3) with Pin(3,3) as its normal subgroup, to quadruple-cover the group of 3-D projective transformations and polarities. We construct spinors in factored form that generate 3-D reflections and rigid-body motions, and extend screw algebra from the Lie algebra of rigid-body motions to other 6-D Lie subalgebras of sl(4), and construct the corresponding cross products and virtual works.

Normalization of Polynomials in Algebraic Invariants of Three-Dimensional Orthogonal Geometry

In classical invariant theory, the Gröbner base of the ideal of syzygies and the normal forms of polynomials of invariants are two core contents. To improve the performance of invariant theory in symbolic computing of classical geometry, advanced invariants are introduced via Clifford product. This paper addresses and solves the two key problems in advanced invariant theory: the Gröbner base of the ideal of syzygies among advanced invariants, and the normal forms of polynomials of advanced invariants. These results beautifully extend the straightening of Young tableaux to advanced invariants.
