Asymptotic distribution of integers with certain prime factorizations

Let p1<p2<...<pν<...p_{1}<p_2<... <p_ν<... be the sequence of prime numbers and let mm be a positive integer. We give a strong asymptotic formula for the distribution of the set of integers having prime factorizations of the form $p_{m^{k_1}}p_{m^{k_{2}}...p_{m^{k_{n}}}$ with k1≤k2≤...≤knk_{1}\le k_{2}\le...\le k_{n}. Such integers originate in various combinatorial counting problems; when m=2m=2, they arise as Matula numbers of certain rooted trees.

Nonstandard principles for generalized functions

Someone knowledgeable in nonstandard analysis may get the feeling that in the nonlinear theory of generalized functions, too often one works directly on the nets and spends effort to obtain results that should be clear from general principles. We want to show that such principles can indeed be introduced and to illustrate their role to solve problems. This text is intended as a tutorial on the use of nonstandard principles in generalized function theory intended for researchers in the nonlinear theory of generalized functions.

Hilbert $\widetilde{\C}$-modules: structural properties and applications to variational problems

We develop a theory of Hilbert $\widetilde{\C}$-modules by investigating their structural and functional analytic properties. Particular attention is given to finitely generated submodules, projection operators, representation theorems for $\widetilde{\C}$-linear functionals and $\widetilde{\C}$-sesquilinear forms. By making use of a generalized Lax-Milgram theorem, we provide some existence and uniqueness theorems for variational problems involving a generalized bilinear or sesquilinear form.

Ideals in the ring of Colombeau generalized numbers

In this paper, the structure of the ideals in the ring of Colombeau generalized numbers is investigated. Connections with the theories of exchange rings, Gelfand rings and lattice-ordered rings are given. Characterizations for prime, projective, pure and topologically closed ideals are given, answering in particular the questions about prime ideals in [Aragona-Juriaans]. Also z-ideals in the sense of [Mason] are characterized. The quotient rings modulo maximal ideals are shown to be canonically isomorphic with nonstandard fields of asymptotic numbers. Finally, a detailed study of the ideals allows us to prove that (under some set-theoretic assumption) the Hahn-Banach extension property does not hold for a large class of topological modules over the ring of Colombeau generalized numbers.

The Local Structure of Nonstandard Representatives of Distributions

It is shown that the nonstandard representatives of Schwartz-distributions, as introduced by K.D. Stroyan and W.A.J. Luxemburg in their book 'Introduction to the theory of infinitesimals', are locally equal to a finite-order derivative of a finite-valued and S-continuous function. By 'equality', we mean a pointwise equality, not an equality in a distributional sense. This proves a conjecture by M. Oberguggenberger in [Z. Anal. Anwend. 10 (1991), 263-264]. Moreover, the representatives of the zero-distribution are locally equal to a finite-order derivative of a function assuming only infinitesimal values. These results also unify the nonstandard theory of distributions by K.D. Stroyan and W.A.J. Luxemburg with the theory by R.F. Hoskins and J. Sousa Pinto in [Portugaliae Mathematica 48(2), 195-216].
