Decoherence-induced self-dual criticality in topological states of matter

Quantum measurements performed on a subsystem of a quantum many-body state can generate entanglement for its remaining constituents. The whole system including the measurement record is described by a hybrid mixed state, which can exhibit exotic phase transitions and critical phenomena. We demonstrate that generic measurement-induced phase transitions (MIPTs) can be cast as decoherence-induced critical mixed states in one higher dimension, by constructing a projected entangled pair state (PEPS) prior to decoherence or measurement. In this context, a deeper conceptual understanding of such mixed-state criticality is called for, particularly with regard to algebraic symmetry as an advanced organizing principle for such entangled states of matter. Integrating these connections we investigate the role of self-dual symmetry -- a fundamental notion in theoretical physics -- in mixed states, showing that the decoherence of electric (e) and magnetic (m) vortices from the 2D bulk of the toric code, or equivalently, a 2D cluster state with symmetry-protected topological order, can leave a (1+1)D quantum critical mixed state protected by a weak Kramers-Wannier self-dual symmetry. The corresponding self-dual critical bulk is described by the N->1 limit of the 2D Non-linear Sigma Model in symmetry class D with target space SO(2N)/U(N) at $Θ$-angle $π$, and represents a "measurement-version" of the Cho-Fisher network model subjected to Born-rule randomness...

Proximity induced superconductivity in monolayer CuO$_{2}$ on the cuprate substrates

To understand the recently observed high temperature superconductivity in the monolayer CuO$_2$ grown on the Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ substrates, we propose a two band model of the hybridized oxygen $p_x$ and $p_y$ orbitals with the proximity effect of the substrate. We demonstrate that both the nodal and nodeless d-wave superconducting states can be induced by the proximity effect, depending on the strengths of the pairing parameters.

SU(3) quantum critical model emerging from a spin-1 topological phase

Different from the spin-1 Haldane gapped phase, we propose a novel SO(3) spin-1 matrix product state (MPS), whose parent Hamiltonian includes three-site spin interactions. From the entanglement spectrum of a single block with $l$ sites, an enlarged SU(3) symmetry is identified in the edge states, which are conjugate to each other for the $l=even$ block but identical for the $l=odd$ block. By blocking this novel state, the blocked MPS explicitly displays the SU(3) symmetry with two distinct structures. Under a symmetric bulk bipartition with a sufficient large block length $% l=even$, the entanglement Hamiltonian (EH) of the reduced system characterizes a spontaneous dimerized phase with two-fold degeneracy. However, for the block length $l=odd$, the corresponding EH represents an SU(3) quantum critical point with delocalized edge quasiparticles, and the critical field theory is described by the SU(3) level-1 Wess-Zumino-Witten conformal field theory.

Conductance and shot noise in the helimagnet tunnel junction

As a result of sinusoidal spatial modulation, helimagnet induces spin-dependent diffracted transmission. In this work, we propose a general scattering matrix treatment to the transport properties in helimagnets with arbitrary helical structures. Multiferroic properties can be considered by taking electric polarization and magnetic helix together into account. A monolayer magnetic helix can be treated as a $δ$-barrier by diffraction theory. The conductance and shot noise properties of the normal metal/helimagnet/normal metal toy model are investigated. It is found that the shot noise is suppressed and demonstrates rise-and-fall variations as a result of interference between different diffracted channels. Sharp change of the shot noise occurs when one and both diffracted beams disappear into evanescent modes at the helimagnet spiral wave vector equal to one and two times the electron Fermi wave vector $q=k_F$ and $2 k_F$. We also considered the conductance and shot noise properties in a real multiferroic helimagnet $\rm{TbMnO_3}$ with ferroelectric and helimagnetism coexistent. It is found that clockwise and counterclockwise spin helix is distinctly separated in the conductance and shot noise spectrum. Their variation pattern is a combined result of helimagnetism and electric polarization.
