Fluctuations and correlations of quark spin in hot and dense QCD matter

In this work, we examine the impact of QCD phase transitions on the quark spin fluctuations and correlations. We propose the quark-antiquark correlation, which relates to the vector meson spin alignment and the $Λ-\barΛ$ correlation, can be used as a novel probe of the critical end point (CEP) in the QCD phase diagram. Using the Nambu-Jona-Lanisio model, we qualitatively study the properties of quark-antiquark spin correlations. Our findings reveal a peak structure near the CEP of the chiral phase transition, which may serve as an experimental signature of the CEP and account for the non-monotonic behavior of $ϕ$ meson alignment at low collision energies observed recently in experiments.

Effect of global momentum conservation on longitudinal flow decorrelation

We calculate the longitudinal flow decorrelation coefficients, i.e., $r_n(η,η_r)$ for $n=2,3$, in the presence of hydro-like flow and the global momentum conservation (GMC) constraint. The longitudinal flow decorrelation is weakened due to the GMC constraint. The GMC effect is sensitive to the total number of particles involved in GMC, the average longitudinal momentum, the transverse momentum, and the reference pseudorapidity. Our results of the $r_2(η,η_{rA})/r_2(η,η_{rB})$ ratio between two reference pseudorapidity bins are consistent with the experimental measurements. We predict that the modification effect of GMC on longitudinal flow decorrelation is more noticeable at BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider energies than at CERN Large Hadron Collider energies. Our finding provides a new perspective for understanding the longitudinal flow decorrelation in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

A transport model study of multiparticle cumulants in $p+p$ collisions at 13 TeV

Flow-like signals including the ridge structure observed in small collision systems that are similar to those in large collision systems have led to questions about the onset of collectivity in nuclear collisions. In this study, we use the string melting version of a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model with or without the sub-nucleon geometry for the proton to study multiparticle cumulants in $p+p$ collisions at 13 TeV. Both versions of the model produce negative $c_{2}\{4 \}$ values at high multiplicities. In addition, the dependence of $c_{2}\{4 \}$ on the parton cross section is non-monotonous, where only a range of parton cross section values leads to negative $c_{2} \{4 \}$. Furthermore, the AMPT model with sub-nucleon geometry better describes the multiplicity dependence of $c_{2} \{4 \}$, demonstrating the importance of incorporating the sub-nucleon geometry in studies of small collision systems.

Impact of nuclear structure on the CME background in $^{96}_{44}$Ru + $^{96}_{44}$Ru and $^{96}_{40}$Zr + $^{96}_{40}$Zr collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 $\sim$ 200 GeV from a multiphase transport model

Impacts of nuclear structure on multiplicity ($N_{ch}$) and anisotropic flows ($v_{2}$ and $v_{3}$) in the isobaric collisions of $^{96}_{44}$Ru + $^{96}_{44}$Ru and $^{96}_{40}$Zr + $^{96}_{40}$Zr at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7, 27, 62.4 and 200 GeV are investigated by using the string melting version of A MultiPhase Transport (AMPT) model. In comparison with the experimental data released recently by the STAR collaboration, it is found that the impact of quadrupole deformation $β_{2}$ on the $v_{2}$ difference is mainly manifested in the most central collisions, while the octupole deformation $β_{3}$ is in the near-central collisions, and the neutron skin effect dominates in the mid-central collisions. Viewing from the energy dependence, these effects are magnified at lower energies.

Multiparticle azimuthal cumulants from transverse momentum conservation and collective flow

We calculate the $n$th order of $2k$-particle azimuthal cumulants $c_n\{2k\}$ based on transverse momentum conservation (TMC) and collective flow $v_n$(n=2,3). We demonstrate that the TMC effect only leads to a nonzero $c_n\{2k\}$ with the sign of $(-1)^{nk}$ and the magnitude inversely proportional to $(N-2k)^{nk}$. The interplay between TMC and collective flow can change the signs of $c_2\{4\}$, $c_3\{2\}$ and $c_3\{4\}$ at some values of multiplicity $N$, which could provide a good probe to study the onset of collectivity and search for the substructure of proton in small colliding systems.

Thermodynamics of partonic matter in relativistic heavy-ion collisions from a multiphase transport model

Using the string melting version of a multiphase transport model, we focus on the evolution of thermodynamic properties of the central cell of parton matter produced in Au$+$Au collisions ranging from 200 GeV down to 2.7 GeV. The temperature and chemical potentials have been calculated based on both Boltzmann and quantum statistics in order to locate their evolution trajectories in the QCD phase diagram. We demonstrate that the trajectories can depend on many physical factors, especially the finite nuclear thickness at lower energies. However, from the evolution of pressure anisotropy, only partial thermalization can be achieved when the partonic systems reach the predicted QCD phase boundary. It provides some helpful insights to studying the QCD phase structure through relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Parton collisional effect on the conversion of geometry eccentricities into momentum anisotropies in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We explore parton collisional effects on the conversion of geometry eccentricities into azimuthal anisotropies in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV using a multi-phase transport model. The initial eccentricity $\varepsilon_{n}$ (n = 2,3) and flow harmonics $v_{n}$ (n = 2,3) are investigated as a function of the number of parton collisions ($N_{coll}$) during the source evolution of partonic phase. It is found that partonic collisions leads to generate elliptic flow $v_{2}$ and triangular flow $v_{3}$ in Pb+Pb collisions. On the other hand, partonic collisions also result in an evolution of the eccentricity of geometry. The collisional effect on the flow conversion efficiency is therefore studied. We find that the partons with larger $N_{coll}$ show a lower flow conversion efficiency, which reflect differential behaviors with respect to $N_{coll}$. It provides an additional insight into the dynamics of the space-momentum transformation during the QGP evolution from a transport model point of view.

A sensitivity study of the primary correlators used to characterize chiral-magnetically-driven charge separation

A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model is used to study the detection sensitivity of two of the primary correlators -- $Δγ$ and $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ -- employed to characterize charge separation induced by the Chiral Magnetic Effect (CME). The study, performed relative to several event planes for different input "CME signals", indicates a detection threshold for the fraction $f_{\rm CME}=Δγ_{\rm CME}/Δγ$, which renders the $Δγ$-correlator insensitive to values of the Fourier dipole coefficient $a_1 \lesssim 2.5\%$, that is larger than the purported signal(signal difference) for ion-ion(isobaric) collisions. By contrast, the $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ correlator indicates concave-shaped distributions with inverse widths ($\mathrm{σ^{-1}_{R_{Ψ_2}}}$) that are linearly proportional to $a_1$, and independent of the character of the event plane used for their extraction. The sensitivity of the $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ correlator to minimal CME-driven charge separation in the presence of realistic backgrounds, could aid better characterization of the CME in heavy-ion collisions.

We present updated experimental results for the chiral magnetic effect and related phenomena. The time evolution of the magnetic fields in different models is discussed. The newly developed quantum kinetic theory for massive fermions is reviewed. We present theoretical and experimental results for the polarization of $Λ$ hyperons and the $ρ_{00}$ value of vector mesons.

The ion-deposited energy formulas and their applications for the interaction of various energetic ions with carbon nanostructures

Based on Monte Carlo (MC) simulations of the interaction of energetic noble gas ions with carbon nanostructures, we have derived the ion-deposited energy formulas and their applications for the above interaction. We also have studied the nuclear point mass effects i.e. the well-known mass ratio effects, and the nuclear point charge effects on the ion-deposited energy then the damage regularities. In particular, we, for first time, find a straight line of the penetrating point threshold energies for energetic noble gas ions. Near this straight line, the nuclear point charge effects dominate the ion-deposited energy then the damage regularities.

Validation and improvement of the ZPC parton cascade inside a box

Cascade solutions of the Boltzmann equation suffer from causality violation at large densities and/or scattering cross sections. Although the particle subdivision technique can reduce the causality violation, it alters event-by-event correlations and fluctuations and is also computationally expensive. Here we evaluate and then improve the accuracy of the ZPC parton cascade for elastic scatterings inside a box without using parton subdivision. We first test different collision schemes for the collision times and ordering time and find that the default collision scheme does not accurately describe the equilibrium momentum distribution at large opacities. We then find a specific collision scheme that can describe very accurately the equilibrium momentum distribution as well as the time evolution towards equilibrium, even at large opacities. We also calculate the shear viscosity and the $η/s$ ratio of the parton systems and confirm that the new collision scheme is more accurate. In addition, we use a novel parton subdivision method to obtain the "exact" evolution of the system. This subdivision method is valid for such box calculations and is so much more efficient than the standard subdivision method that we use a subdivision factor of $10^6$ in this study.

Extracting jet transport parameter $\hat{q}$ from a multiphase transport model

Within a multi-phase transport model with string melting scenario, jet transport parameter $\hat{q}$ is calculated in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN} } $= 200 GeV and Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN} } $= 2.76 TeV. The $\hat{q}$ increases with the increasing of jet energy for both partonic phase and hadronic phase. The energy and path length dependences of $\hat{q}$ in full heavy-ion evolution are consistent with the expectations of jet quenching. The correlation between jet transport parameter $\hat{q}$ and dijet transverse momentum asymmetry $A_{J}$ is mainly investigated, which discloses that a larger $\hat{q}$ corresponds to a larger $A_{J}$. It supports a consistent jet energy loss picture from the two viewpoints of single jet and dijet. It is proposed to measure dijet asymmetry distributions with different jet transport parameter ranges as a new potential method to study jet quenching physics in high energy heavy-ion collisions.

Sensitivity analysis of the chiral magnetic effect observables using a multiphase transport model

Because the traditional observable of charge-dependent azimuthal correlator $γ$ contains both contributions from the chiral magnetic effect (CME) and its background, a new observable of $R_{Ψ_{m}}$ has been recently proposed which is expected to be able to distinguish the CME from the background. In this study, we apply two methods to calculate $R_{Ψ_{m}}$ using a multiphase transport model without or with introducing a percentage of CME-induced charge separation. We demonstrate that the shape of final $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ distribution is flat for the case without the CME, but concave for that with an amount of the CME, because the initial CME signal survives from strong final state interactions. By comparing the responses of $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ and $γ$ to the strength of the initial CME, we observe that two observables show different nonlinear sensitivities to the CME. We find that the shape of $R_{Ψ_{2}}$ has an advantage in measuring a small amount of the CME, although it requires large event statistics.

Predictions for $\sqrt {s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV Pb+Pb Collisions from a Multi-Phase Transport Model

We present predictions from the string melting version of a multi-phase transport model on various observables in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt {s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV. We use the same version of the model as an earlier study that reasonably reproduced dN/dy, $p_{\rm T}$-spectra and elliptic flow of charged pions and kaons at low-$p_{\rm T}$ for central and semi-central heavy ion collisions at 200 GeV and 2.76 TeV. While we compare with the already-available centrality dependence data on charged particle $dN/dη$ at mid-pseudorapidity in Pb+Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV, we make predictions on identified particle dN/dy, $p_{\rm T}$-spectra, azimuthal anisotropies $v_n (n=2,3,4)$, and factorization ratios $r_{n}(η^{a},η^{b}) (n=2,3)$ for longitudinal correlations.

Rapidity bin multiplicity correlations from a multi-phase transport model

The central-arbitrary bin and forward-backward bin multiplicity correlation patterns for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} $= $7.7-62.4$ GeV are investigated within a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model. An interesting observation is that for $\sqrt{s_{NN}} <19.6$ GeV Au+Au collisions, these two correlation patterns both have an increase with the pseudorapidity gap, while for $\sqrt{s_{NN}} >19.6$ GeV Au+Au collisions, they decrease. We mainly discuss the influence of different evolution stages of collision system on the central-arbitrary bin correlations, such as the initial conditions, partonic scatterings, hadronization scheme and hadronic scatterings. Our results show that the central-arbitrary bin multiplicity correlations have different responses to partonic phase and hadronic phase, which can be suggested as a good probe to explore the dynamical evolution mechanism of the hot dense matter in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Test the chiral magnetic effect with isobaric collisions

The quark-gluon matter produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions may contain local domains in which P and CP symmetries are not preserved. When coupled with an external magnetic field, such P- and CP-odd domains will generate electric currents along the magnetic field --- a phenomenon called the chiral magnetic effect (CME). Recently, the STAR Collaboration at RHIC and the ALICE Collaboration at the LHC released data of charge-dependent azimuthal-angle correlators with features consistent with the CME expectation. However, the experimental observable is contaminated with significant background contributions from elliptic-flow-driven effects, which makes the interpretation of the data ambiguous. In this Letter, we show that the collisions of isobaric nuclei, $^{96}_{44}$Ru + $^{96}_{44}$Ru and $^{96}_{40}$Zr + $^{96}_{40}$Zr, provide an ideal tool to disentangle the CME signal from the background effects. Our simulation demonstrates that the two collision types at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV have more than $10\%$ difference in the CME signal and less than $2\%$ difference in the elliptic-flow-driven backgrounds for the centrality range of $20-60\%$.

Longitudinal Decorrelation of Anisotropic Flows in Heavy-ion Collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

Fluctuations in the initial transverse energy-density distribution lead to anisotropic flows as observed in central high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Studies of longitudinal fluctuations of the anisotropic flows can shed further light on the initial conditions and dynamical evolution of the hot quark-gluon matter in these collisions. Correlations between anisotropic flows with varying pseudorapidity gaps in Pb+Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are investigated using both an event-by-event (3+1)-D ideal hydrodynamical model with fluctuating initial conditions and the a multiphase transport (AMPT) Monte Carlo model for high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Anisotropic flows at different pseudorapidities are found to become significantly decorrelated with increasing pseudo-rapidity gaps due to longitudinal fluctuations in the initial states of heavy-ion collisions. The longitudinal correlation of the elliptic flow shows a strong centrality dependence while the correlation of the triangular flow is independent of the centrality. Longitudinal fluctuations as a source of the decorrelation are further shown to consist of a twist or gradual rotation in flow angles between the forward and backward direction and additional fluctuations on top of the twist. Within the AMPT model, longitudinal correlations of anisotropic flows are also found to depend on the value of partonic cross sections. The implicatiosn of constraining the initial conditions and shear viscosity to entropy density ratio of the partonic matter in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are also discussed.

Possible observables for the chiral electric separation effect in Cu + Au collisions

The quark-gluon plasma (QGP) generated in relativistic heavy-ion collisions could be locally parity-odd. In parity-odd QGP, the electric field may induce a chiral current which is called the chiral electric separation effect (CESE). We propose two possible observables for CESE in Cu + Au collisions: The first one is the correlation $ζ_{αβ}=\langle \cos[2(ϕ_α+ϕ_β-2Ψ_{\rm RP})]\rangle$; the second one is the charge-dependent event-plane angle $Ψ^{q}_2$ with $q=\pm$ being charge. Nonzero $Δζ=ζ_{opp}-ζ_{same}$ and $ΔΨ=\langle|Ψ_2^+-Ψ_2^-|\rangle$ may signal the CESE in Cu + Au collisions. Within a multiphase transport model, we study how the final state interaction affects these observables. We find that the correlation $γ_{αβ}=\langle\cos(ϕ_α+ϕ_β-Ψ_{\rm RP})\rangle$ is sensitive to the out-of-plane charge separation caused by the chiral magnetic effect and to the in-plane charge separation caused by the in-plane electric field, but it is not sensitive to the CESE. On the other hand, $Δζ$ and $ΔΨ$ are sensitive to the CESE. Therefore, we suggest that the future experiments measure the above observables in Cu+Au collisions in order to disentangle different chiral and charge separation mechanisms.

Rapidity dependence of elliptic and triangular flow in proton-nucleus collisions from collective dynamics

The rapidity dependence of elliptic, $v_2$, and triangular, $v_3$, flow coefficients in proton-nucleus (p+A) collisions is predicted in hydrodynamics and in a multi-phase transport model (AMPT). We find that $v_n$ ($n=2,3$) on a nucleus side is significantly larger than on a proton side and the ratio between the two, $v_n^{\rm Pb}/v_n^{\rm p}$, weekly depends on the transverse momentum of produced particles.

Azimuthal anisotropies of reconstructed jets in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV in a multiphase transport model

Azimuthal anisotropies of reconstructed jets [$v_{n}^{jet} (n=2, 3)$] have been investigated in Pb+Pb collisions at the center of mass energy $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV within a framework of a multiphase transport (AMPT) model. The $v_{2}^{jet}$ is in good agreement with the recent ATLAS data. However, the $v_{3}^{jet}$ shows a smaller magnitude than $v_{2}^{jet}$, and approaches zero at a larger transverse momentum. It is attributed to the path-length dependence in which the jet energy loss fraction depends on the azimuthal angles with respect to different orders of event planes. The ratio $v_{n}^{jet}/\varepsilon_{n}$ increases from peripheral to noncentral collisions, and $v_{n}^{jet}$ increases with the initial spatial asymmetry ($\varepsilon_{n}$) for a given centrality bin. These behaviors indicate that the $v_{n}^{jet}$ is produced by the strong interactions between jet and the partonic medium with different initial geometry shapes. Therefore, azimuthal anisotropies of reconstructed jet are proposed as a good probe to study the initial spatial fluctuations, which are expected to provide constraints on the path-length dependence of jet quenching models.

Charge separation with fluctuating domains in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Charge separation induced by the chiral magnetic effect suggested that some ${\cal P}$- or ${\cal CP}$-odd metastable domains could be produced in a QCD vacuum in the early stage of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Based on a multi-phase transport model, our results suggest that a domain-based scenario with final state interactions can describe the solenoidal tracker at RHIC detector (STAR) measurements of both same- and opposite-charge azimuthal angle correlations, $<\cos(ϕ_α+ϕ_β)>$, in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=200$ GeV. The occupancy factor of the total volume of domains over the fireball volume is small, which indicates that the size and number of metastable domains should be relatively small in the early stage of a quark-gluon plasma.

Elliptic and triangular flow in p+Pb and peripheral Pb+Pb collisions from parton scatterings

Using a multiphase transport model (AMPT) we calculate the elliptic, $v_2$, and triangular, $v_3$, Fourier coefficients of the two-particle azimuthal correlation function in proton-nucleus (p+Pb) and peripheral nucleus-nucleus (Pb+Pb) collisions. Our results for $v_3$ are in a good agreement with the CMS data collected at the Large Hadron Collider. The $v_2$ coefficient is very well described in p+Pb collisions and is underestimated for higher transverse momenta in Pb+Pb interactions. The characteristic mass ordering of $v_2$ in p+Pb is reproduced whereas for $v_3$ this effect is not observed. We further predict the pseudorapidity dependence of $v_2$ and $v_3$ in p+Pb and observe that both are increasing when going from a proton side to a Pb-nucleus side. Predictions for the higher order Fourier coefficients, $v_4$ and $v_5$, in p+Pb are also presented.

Final state effects on charge asymmetry of pion elliptic flow in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

Within a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model with the string melting mechanism and imported initial electric quadrupole moment, the difference between the elliptic flow of positive and negative pions is calculated. The slope parameter $r$ of the linear dependence of $Δv_{2}=v_{2}(π^{-})-v_{2}(π^{+})$ on $A_{ch}=(N^{+}-N^{-})/(N^{+}+N^{-})$ is yielded owing to the parton cascade, which converts the initial electric quadrupole distribution into the final charge-dependent elliptic flow. The slope parameter $r$ is found to be increased by the hadronization given by the coalescence, and decreased by the resonance decays. The slope parameter $r$ is very sensitive to both the initial electric quadrupole percentage and centrality bin and consequently a helpful constraint on the quadrupole moment of the chiral magnetic wave is obtained for Au+Au collisions at the top RHIC energy.

Long-range azimuthal correlations in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions from the incoherent scattering of partons

We show that the incoherent elastic scattering of partons, as present in a multi-phase transport model (AMPT), with a modest parton-parton cross-section of $σ=1.5 - 3$ mb, naturally explains the long-range two-particle azimuthal correlation as observed in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions at the Large Hadron Collider.

Medium modifications of jet shapes in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV within a multiphase transport model

Within a multiphase transport model, medium modifications of differential jet shapes are investigated in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. The differential jet shapes are significantly modified by the strong interactions between jets and a partonic medium in Pb+Pb collisions relative to that in p+p collisions. The modifications are slightly weakened by the hadronization of coalescence, but strengthened by resonance decays in hadronic rescatterings. Subleading jets display larger medium modifications than leading jets, especially in central Pb+Pb collisions with large dijet asymmetries. These behaviors of medium modifications of differential jet shapes reflect a dynamical evolution of redistribution of jet energy inside a quenched jet cone in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Medium modifications of photon-tagged jet fragmentation function in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

Based on a multiphase transport model, medium modifications of prompt photon-tagged jet fragmentation function are investigated by comparing prompt photon-tagged hadron azimuthal correlation in Au+Au collisions (0-40\%) with that in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The measured modification factor, $I_{AA}$, increases with the increasing integration range of the away side, which reveals a medium-modified jet shape in which the medium enhancement of soft particles is preferentially located far away from the jet axis. The $I_{AA}$ largely results from strong interactions between jets and partonic matter. However, both hadronization of coalescence and hadronic rescatterings play certain roles to modify the $I_{AA}$. These behaviors reflect a dynamical evolution of modifications of the prompt photon-tagged jet fragmentation function in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Decomposition of jet fragmentation function in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

Based on a multi-phase transport model, the measured jet fragmentation function ratio of Pb+Pb collisions to p+p collisions in CERN Large Hadron Collider experiments is decomposed into two parts, corresponding to the two contributions of jet hadronization from fragmentation and coalescence. The results suggest an existence of distinct competitions between two jet hadronization mechanisms for different $ξ$=ln(1/$z$) ranges in different centrality bins. The jet fragmentation functions for different types of hadrons (mesons and baryons) are proposed as a good probe to study the competition between fragmentation and coalescence for the jet hardonization in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Dijet asymmetry in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV within a multiphase transport model

Within a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model, dijet asymmetry is studied in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. It is found that a large dijet asymmetry ($A_{J}$) is produced by strong interactions between jets and partonic matter. It is demonstrated that hadronization and final-state hadronic rescatterings have little effects on $A_{J}$. The final $A_{J}$ is found to be driven by both initial $A_{J}$ and partonic jet energy loss, which is consistent with an increasing jet energy loss in a hot and strongly interacting partonic medium in more central Pb+Pb collisions.

Towards detailed tomography of high energy heavy-ion collisions by $γ$-jet

Within a multi-phase transport (AMPT) model with string melting scenario, the transverse momentum imbalance between prompt photon and jet is studied in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. Jet loses more energy in more central collisions due to strong partonic interactions between jet parton shower and partonic matter, which is more significant than due to hadronic interactions only. The hadronization and final-state hadronic interactions have little influences on the imbalance. The imbalance ratio $x_{jγ}$ is sensitive to both production position and passing direction of $γ$-jet, which provides an opportunity to do detail $γ$-jet tomography on the formed partonic matter by selecting different $x_{jγ}$ ranges. It is also proposed that $γ$-hadron azimuthal correlation associated with photon+jet is a probe to see the medium responses to different $γ$-jet production configurations.

Effects of final state interactions on charge separation in relativistic heavy ion collisions

Charge separation is an important consequence of the Chiral Magnetic Effect. Within the framework of a multi-phase transport model, the effects of final state interactions on initial charge separation are studied. We demonstrate that charge separation can be significantly reduced by the evolution of the Quark-Gluon Plasma produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Hadronization and resonance decay can also affect charge separation. Moreover, our results show that the Chiral Magnetic Effect leads to the modification of the relation between the charge azimuthal correlation and the elliptic flow that is expected from transverse momentum conservation only. The transverse momentum and pseudorapidity dependences of, and the effects of background on the charge azimuthal correlation are also discussed.

Initial fluctuations and dihadron and $γ$-hadron correlations in high-energy heavy ion collisions

Jets, jet-medium interaction and hydrodynamic evolution of fluctuations in initial parton density all lead to the final anisotropic dihadron azimuthal correlations in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We remove the harmonic flow background and study the net correlations from different sources with different initial conditions within the AMPT model. We also study $γ$-hadron correlations which are only influenced by jet-medium interactions.

Jets, Mach cone, hot spots, ridges, harmonic flow, dihadron and $γ$-hadron correlation in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

Within the AMPT Monte Carlo model, hot spots in the initial transverse parton density are shown to lead to harmonic flows which all contribute to dihadron azimuthal correlation. The net back-to-back dihadron correlation after subtraction of harmonic flows still has a double-peak that is independent of the initial geometric triangularity at a fixed impact-parameter and unique to the structure of jet-induced Mach cone and expanding hot spots dragged by radial flow. The longitudinal structure of hot spots also leads to a near-side ridge in dihadron correlation with a large rapidity gap. By successively randomizing the azimuthal angle of the transverse momenta and positions of initial partons, one can isolate the effects of jet-induced medium excitation and expanding hot spots on the dihadron azimuthal correlation with both small and large rapidity gap. The double-peak in the net dihadron correlation is quantitatively different from that in $γ$-hadron that is free of the contributions from harmonic flow and hot spots and caused only by jet-induced Mach cone.

Mach cone induced by $γ$-triggered jets in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

MMedium excitation by jet shower propagation inside a quark-gluon plasma is studied within a linear Boltzmann transport and a multiphase transport model. Contrary to the naive expectation, it is the deflection of both the jet shower and the Mach-cone-like excitation in an expanding medium that is found to gives rise to a double-peak azimuthal particle distribution with respect to the initial jet direction. Such deflection is the strongest for hadron-triggered jets which are often produced close to the surface of dense medium due to trigger-bias and travel against or tangential to the radial flow. Without such trigger bias, the effect of deflection on $γ$-jet showers and their medium excitation is weaker. Comparative study of hadron and $γ$-triggered particle correlations can therefore reveal the dynamics of jet-induced medium excitation in high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Dihadron and gamma-hadron correlations from jet-induced medium excitation in high-energy heavy-ion collisions

Jet propagation is shown to produce Mach-cone-like medium excitation inside a quark-gluon plasma. However, only deflection of such medium excitation and jet shower partons by radial flow leads to double-peaked dihadron correlation in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Dihadron correlations from harmonic flow, hot spots and dijets are studied separately within the AMPT Monte Carlo model and all lead to double-peaked dihadron azimuthal correlation. The $γ$-hadron correlation has similar double-peak feature but is free of the contributions from harmonic flow and hot spots. Dihadron and $γ$-hadron correlations are compared to shed light on jet-induced medium excitation and hot spots in an expanding medium.
