A note on critical problems involving the $p$-Grushin Operator: existence of infinitely many solutions

We consider a critical problem in a bounded domain involving the $p$-Grushin operator $Δ_α^p$. After a truncation argument, we obtain infinitely many solutions to our problem via Krasnoselskii's genus, extending a previous result of García Azorero and Peral Alonso to the $p$-Grushin operator. A central part of our analysis is the verification of the Palais-Smale condition of the associated functional under a certain level.

Multiple solutions for Schrödinger equations on Riemannian manifolds via $\nabla$-theorems

We consider a smooth, complete and non-compact Riemannian manifold $(\mathcal{M},g)$ of dimension $d \geq 3$, and we look for positive solutions to the semilinear elliptic equation $$ -Δ_g w + V w = αf(w) + λw \quad\hbox{in $\mathcal{M}$}. $$ The potential $V \colon \mathcal{M} \to \mathbb{R}$ is a continuous function which is coercive in a suitable sense, while the nonlinearity $f$ has a subcritical growth in the sense of Sobolev embeddings. By means of $\nabla$-Theorems introduced by Marino and Saccon, we prove that at least three solution exists as soon as the parameter $λ$ is sufficiently close to an eigenvalue of the operator $-Δ_g$.

Existence and localization of solutions for nonlocal fractional equations

This work is devoted to the study of the existence of at least one weak solution to nonlocal equations involving a general integro-differential operator of fractional type. As a special case, we derive an existence theorem for the fractional Laplacian, finding a nontrivial weak solution of the equation \begin{eqnarray*} \begin{cases} (-Δ)^s u=h(x)f(u) & {\mbox{ in }} Ω\\ u=0 & {\mbox{ in }} \mathbb{R}^n\setminus Ω, \end{cases} \end{eqnarray*} where $h\in L^{\infty}_+(Ω)\setminus\{0\}$ and $f:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is a suitable continuous function. These problems have a variational structure and we find a nontrivial weak solution for them by exploiting a recent local minimum result for smooth functionals defined on a reflexive Banach space. To make the nonlinear methods work, some careful analysis of the fractional spaces involved is necessary.

Existence results for some problems on Riemannian manifolds

By using variational techniques we provide new existence results for Yamabe-type equations with subcritical perturbations set on a compact $d$-dimensional ($d\geq 3$) Riemannian manifold without boundary. As a direct consequence of our main theorems, we prove the existence of at least one solution to the following singular Yamabe-type problem $$ \left\lbrace \begin{array}{ll} -Δ_g w + α(σ)w = μK(σ) w^\frac{d+2}{d-2} +λ\left( w^{r-1} + f(w)\right), \quad σ\in\mathcal{M} &\\ &\\ w\in H^2_α(\mathcal{M}), \quad w>0 \ \ \mbox{in} \ \ \mathcal{M} & \end{array} \right.$$ where, as usual, $Δ_g$ denotes the Laplace-Beltrami operator on $(\mathcal{M},g)$, $α, K:\mathcal{M}\to\mathbb{R}$ are positive (essentially) bounded functions, $r\in(0,1)$, and $f:[0,+\infty)\to[0,+\infty)$ is a subcritical continuous function. Restricting ourselves to the unit sphere ${\mathbb{S}}^d$ via the stereographic projection, we also solve some parametrized Emden-Fowler equations in the Euclidean case.

Gradient-type systems on unbounded domains of the Heisenberg group

The purpose of this paper is to study the existence of weak solutions for some classes of one-parameter subelliptic gradient-type systems involving a Sobolev-Hardy potential defined on an unbounded domain $Ω_ψ$ of the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n=\mathbb{C}^n\times \mathbb{R}$ ($n\geq 1$) whose geometrical profile is determined by two real positive functions $ψ_1$ and $ψ_2$ that are bounded on bounded sets. The treated problems have a variational structure and thanks to this, we are able to prove the existence of an open interval $Λ\subset (0,\infty)$ such that, for every parameter $λ\in Λ$, the system has at least two nontrivial symmetric weak solutions that are uniformly bounded with respect to the Sobolev $HW^{1,2}_0$-norm. Moreover, the existence is stable under certain small subcritical perturbations of the nonlinear term. The main proof, crucially based on the Palais principle of symmetric criticality, is obtained by developing a group-theoretical procedure on the unitary group $\mathbb{U}(n)=U(n)\times\{1\}$ and by exploiting some compactness embedding results into Lebesgue spaces, recently proved for suitable $\mathbb{U}(n)$-invariant subspaces of the Folland-Stein space $HW^{1,2}_0(Ω_ψ)$. A key ingredient for our variational approach is a very general min-max argument valid for sufficiently smooth functionals defined on reflexive Banach spaces.

Existence of solutions for $p$-Laplacian discrete equations

This work is devoted to the study of the existence of at least one (non-zero) solution to a problem involving the discrete $p$-Laplacian. As a special case, we derive an existence theorem for a second-order discrete problem, depending on a positive real parameter $α$, whose prototype is given by $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} -Δ^2u({k-1})=αf(k,u(k)),\quad \forall\; k \in {\mathbb{Z}}[1,T] \\ {u(0)=u({T+1})=0.}\\ \end{array} \right. $$ Our approach is based on variational methods in finite-dimensional setting.

Higher nonlocal problems with bounded potential

The aim of this paper is to study a class of nonlocal fractional Laplacian equations depending on two real parameters. More precisely, by using an appropriate analytical context on fractional Sobolev spaces due to Servadei and Valdinoci, we establish the existence of three weak solutions for nonlocal fractional problems exploiting an abstract critical point result for smooth functionals. We emphasize that the dependence of the underlying equation from one of the real parameter is not necessarily of affine type.

Multiple solutions for elliptic equations involving a general operator in divergence form

In this paper, exploiting variational methods, the existence of three weak solutions for a class of elliptic equations involving a general operator in divergence form and with Dirichlet boundary condition is investigated. Several special cases are analyzed. In conclusion, for completeness, a concrete example of an application is presented by finding the existence of three nontrivial weak solutions for an uniformly elliptic second-order problem on a bounded Euclidean domain.

Multiplicity results for fractional Laplace problems with critical growth

This paper deals with multiplicity and bifurcation results for nonlinear problems driven by the fractional Laplace operator $(-Δ)^s$ and involving a critical Sobolev term. In particular, we consider $$\begin{cases} (-Δ)^su=γ|u|^{2^*-2}u+f(x,u) & \mbox{in } Ωu=0 & \mbox{in } \mathbb R^n\setminus Ω, \end{cases}$$ where $Ω\subset\mathbb R^n$ is an open bounded set with continuous boundary, $n>2s$ with $s\in(0,1)$, $γ$ is a positive real parameter, $2^*=2n/(n-2s)$ is the fractional critical Sobolev exponent and $f$ is a Carathéodory function satisfying different subcritical conditions.

Nonlinear Neumann problems driven by a nonhomogeneous differential operator

We study a nonlinear parametric Neumann problem driven by a nonhomogeneous quasilinear elliptic differential operator $\operatorname{div}(a(x,\nabla u))$, a special case of which is the $p$-Laplacian. The reaction term is a nonlinearity function $f$ which exhibits $(p-1)$-subcritical growth. By using variational methods, we prove a multiplicity result on the existence of weak solutions for such problems. An explicit example of an application is also presented.

On doubly nonlocal fractional elliptic equations

This work is devoted to the study of the existence of solutions to nonlocal equations involving the fractional Laplacian. These equations have a variational structure and we find a nontrivial solution for them using the Mountain Pass Theorem. To make the nonlinear methods work, some careful analysis of the fractional spaces involved is necessary. In addition, we require rather general assumptions on the local operator. As far as we know, this result is new and represent a fractional version of a classical theorem obtained working with Laplacian equations.

On sequences of solutions for discrete anisotropic equations

Taking advantage of a recent critical point theorem, the existence of infinitely many solutions for an anisotropic problem with a parameter is established. More precisely, a concrete interval of positive parameters, for which the treated problem admits infinitely many solutions, is determined without symmetry assumptions on the nonlinear data. Our goal was achieved by requiring an appropriate behavior of the nonlinear terms at zero, without any additional conditions.

Periodic solutions for nonlocal fractional equations

The purpose of this paper is to study the existence of (weak) periodic solutions for nonlocal fractional equations with periodic boundary conditions. These equations have a variational structure and, by applying a critical point result coming out from a classical Pucci-Serrin theorem in addition to a local minimum result for differentiable functionals due to Ricceri, we are able to prove the existence of at least two periodic solutions for the treated problems. As far as we know, all these results are new.

On multiple solutions for nonlocal fractional problems via $\nabla$-theorems

The aim of this paper is to prove multiplicity of solutions for nonlocal fractional equations modeled by $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} (-Δ)^s u-λu=f(x,u) & {\mbox{ in }} Ω\\ u=0 & {\mbox{ in }} \mathbb{R}^n\setminus Ω\,, \end{array} \right. $$ where $s\in (0,1)$ is fixed, $(-Δ)^s$ is the fractional Laplace operator, $λ$ is a real parameter, $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, $n>2s$, is an open bounded set with continuous boundary and nonlinearity $f$ satisfies natural superlinear and subcritical growth assumptions. Precisely, along the paper we prove the existence of at least three non-trivial solutions for this problem in a suitable left neighborhood of any eigenvalue of $(-Δ)^s$. At this purpose we employ a variational theorem of mixed type (one of the so-called $\nabla$-theorems).

Sequences of weak solutions for fractional equations

This work is devoted to study the existence of infinitely many weak solutions to nonlocal equations involving a general integrodifferential operator of fractional type. These equations have a variational structure and we find a sequence of nontrivial weak solutions for them exploiting the ${\mathbb{Z}}_2$-symmetric version of the Mountain Pass Theorem. To make the nonlinear methods work, some careful analysis of the fractional spaces involved is necessary. As a particular case, we derive an existence theorem for the fractional Laplacian, finding nontrivial solutions of the equation $$ \left\{\begin{array}{ll} (-Δ)^s u=f(x,u) & {\mbox{in}} Ω\\ u=0 & {\mbox{in}} \erre^n\setminus Ω. \end{array} \right. $$ As far as we know, all these results are new and represent a fractional version of classical theorems obtained working with Laplacian equations.
