The function-operator convolution algebra over the Bergman space of the ball and its Gelfand theory

We investigate the structure of the commutative Banach algebra formed as the direct sum of integrable radial functions on the disc and the radial operators on the Bergman space, endowed with the convolution from quantum harmonic analysis as the product. In particular, we study the Gelfand theory of this algebra and discuss certain properties of the appropriate Fourier transform of operators which naturally arises from the Gelfand transform.

Classification of (Sp~(n,R)×Sp~(1,R))(\widetilde{Sp}(n,\mathbb{R})\times\widetilde{Sp}(1,\mathbb{R}))-Manifolds

Let MM be an analytic complete finite volume pseudo-Riemannian manifold and Sp~(n,R)×Sp~(1,R)\widetilde{Sp}(n,\mathbb{R})\times\widetilde{Sp}(1,\mathbb{R}) a connected semisimple Lie group such that its Lie algebra is sp(n,R)⊕sp(1,R)\mathfrak{sp}(n,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{sp}(1,\mathbb{R}). We characterize the structure of the manifold MM assuming that the Lie group Sp~(n,R)×Sp~(1,R)\widetilde{Sp}(n,\mathbb{R})\times\widetilde{Sp}(1,\mathbb{R}) acts isometrically on MM and that its dimension satisfies 3+n(2n+1)<dim⁡(M)≤(n+1)(2n+3)3+n(2n+1)<\dim(M)\leq(n+1)(2n+3).

On low-dimensional manifolds with isometric U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-actions

Denote by U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q) the universal covering group of U(p,q)\mathrm{U}(p,q), the linear group of isometries of the pseudo-Hermitian space Cp,q\mathbb{C}^{p,q} of signature p,qp,q. Let MM be a connected analytic complete pseudo-Riemannian manifold that admits an isometric U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-action and that satisfies dim⁡M≤n(n+2)\dim M \leq n(n+2) where n=p+qn = p+q. We prove that if the action of SU~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{SU}}(p,q) (the connected derived group of U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)) has a dense orbit and the center of U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q) acts non-trivially, then MM is an isometric quotient of manifolds involving simple Lie groups with bi-invariant metrics. Furthermore, the U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-action is lifted to M~\widetilde{M} to natural actions on the groups involved. As a particular case, we prove that when M~\widetilde{M} is not a pseudo-Riemannian product, then its geometry and U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-action are obtained from one of the symmetric pairs (su(p,q+1),u(p,q))(\mathfrak{su}(p,q+1), \mathfrak{u}(p,q)) or (su(p+1,q),u(p,q))(\mathfrak{su}(p+1,q), \mathfrak{u}(p,q)).

Commuting Toeplitz Operators on Bounded Symmetric Domains and Multiplicity-Free Restrictions of Holomorphic Discrete Series

For any given bounded symmetric domain, we prove the existence of commutative C∗C^*-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators acting on any weighted Bergman space. The symbols of the Toeplitz operators that generate such algebras are defined by essentially bounded functions invariant under suitable subgroups of the group of biholomorphisms of the domain. These subgroups include the maximal compact groups of biholomorphisms. We prove the commutativity of the Toeplitz operators by considering the Bergman spaces as the underlying space of the holomorphic discrete series and then applying known multiplicity-free results for restrictions to certain subgroups of the holomorphic discrete series. In the compact case we completely characterize the subgroups that define invariant symbols that yield commuting Toeplitz operators in terms of the multiplicity-free property.

Partial Cosine-Funk Transforms at Poles of the Cosλ\textrm{Cos}^λ Transform on Grassmann Manifolds

The cosine-λλ transform, denoted Cλ\mathcal{C}^λ, is a family of integral transforms we can define on the sphere and on the Grassmann manifolds Gr(p,Kn)=SU(n,K)/S(U(p,K)×U(n−p,K))\textrm{Gr}(p, \mathbb{K}^n) = \textrm{SU}(n,\mathbb{K})/\text{S}(\textrm{U}(p,\mathbb{K}) \times \textrm{U}(n-p,\mathbb{K})) where K\mathbb{K} is R\mathbb{R}, C\mathbb{C} or the skew field H\mathbb{H} of quaternions. The family Cλ\mathcal{C}^λ extends meromorphically in λλ to the complex plane with poles at (among other values) λ=−1,…,−pλ=-1,\ldots, -p. In this paper we normalize Cλ\mathcal{C}^λ and evaluate at those poles. The result is a series of integral transforms on the Grassmannians that we can view as partial cosine-Funk transforms. The transform that arises at λ=−pλ= -p is the natural analog of the Funk transform in this setting.

Unitary Representations of Lie Groups with Reflection Symmetry

We consider the following class of unitary representations ππ of some (real) Lie group GG which has a matched pair of symmetries described as follows: (i) Suppose GG has a period-2 automorphism ττ, and that the Hilbert space H(π)\mathbf{H} (π) carries a unitary operator JJ such that Jπ=(π∘τ)JJπ=(π\circ τ)J (i.e., selfsimilarity). (ii) An added symmetry is implied if H(π)\mathbf{H} (π) further contains a closed subspace K0\mathbf{K}_0 having a certain order-covariance property, and satisfying the K0\mathbf{K}_0 -restricted positivity: <v∣Jv>≥0< v \mid Jv > \ge 0, ∀v∈K0\forall v\in \mathbf{K}_0 , where <⋅∣⋅>< \cdot \mid \cdot > is the inner product in H(π)\mathbf{H} (π). From (i)--(ii), we get an induced dual representation of an associated dual group GcG^c. All three properties, selfsimilarity, order-covariance, and positivity, are satisfied in a natural context when GG is semisimple and hermitean; but when GG is the (ax+b)(ax+b)-group, or the Heisenberg group, positivity is incompatible with the other two axioms for the infinite-dimensional irreducible representations. We describe a class of GG, containing the latter two, which admits a classification of the possible spaces K0⊂H(π)\mathbf{K}_0 \subset \mathbf{H} (π) satisfying the axioms of selfsimilarity and order-covariance.
