Superconductivity tuned by the iron vacancy order in Kx_{\bf x}Fe2−y_{\bf 2-y}Se2_2

Combining in-depth neutron diffraction and systematic bulk studies, we discover that the 5×5\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5} Fe vacancy order with its associated block antiferromagnetic order is the ground state, with varying occupancy ratio of the iron 16i and vacancy 4d sites, across the phase-diagram of Kx_{\bf x}Fe2−y_{\bf 2-y}Se2_2. The orthorhombic order with one of the four Fe sites vacant appears only at intermediate temperature as a competing phase. The material experiences an insulator to metal crossover when the 5×5\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5} order has highly developed. Superconductivity occurs in such a metallic phase.

Antiferromagnetic order and superlattice structure in nonsuperconducting and superconducting RbyFe(1.6+x)Se2

Neutron diffraction has been used to study the lattice and magnetic structures of the insulating and superconducting Rby_yFe1.6+x_{1.6+x}Se2_2. For the insulating Rby_{y}Fe1.6+x_{1.6+x}Se2_2, neutron polarization analysis and single crystal neutron diffraction unambiguously confirm the earlier proposed 5×5\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5} block antiferromagnetic structure. For superconducting samples (Tc=30T_c=30 K), we find that in addition to the tetragonal 5×5\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5} superlattice structure transition at 513 K, the material develops a separate 2×2\sqrt{2}\times \sqrt{2} superlattice structure at a lower temperature of 480 K. These results suggest that superconducting Rby_{y}Fe1.6+x_{1.6+x}Se2_2 is phase separated with coexisting 2×2\sqrt{2}\times \sqrt{2} and 5×5\sqrt{5}\times\sqrt{5} superlattice structures.
