Disorder Effects in Dynamical Restoration of Spontaneously Broken Continuous Symmetry

We discuss the Euclidean quantum $O(N)$ model with $N=2$ in a continuous broken symmetry phase. We study the system at low temperatures in the presence of quenched disorder linearly coupled to the scalar field. Performing an average over the ensemble of all realizations of the disorder, we represent the average free energy in terms of a series of the moments of the partition function. In the one-loop approximation, we prove that there is a denumerable collection of moments that lead the system to develop critical behavior. Our results indicate that in an equilibrium system, the strongly correlation of the disorder in imaginary produces generic scale invariance in the massive modes.

Comment on "$Λ_c N$ interaction in leading order covariant chiral effective field theory"

Song et al. [Phys. Rev. C 102, 065208 (2020)] presented results for the $Λ_c N$ interaction based on an extrapolation of lattice simulations by the HAL QCD Collaboration at unphysical quark masses to the physical point via covariant chiral effective field theory. We point out that their predictions for the $^3D_1$ partial wave disagree with available lattice results. We discuss the origin of that disagreement and present a comparison with predictions from conventional (non-relativistic) chiral effective field theory.

Femtoscopic correlations and the $Λ_c N$ interaction

We study the prospects for deducing constraints on the interaction of charmed baryons with nucleons from measurements of two-particle momentum correlation functions for $Λ_c p$. The correlation functions are calculated for $Λ_c N$ and $Σ_c N$ interactions that have been extrapolated from lattice QCD simulations at unphysical masses of $m_π=410-570$ MeV to the physical point using chiral effective field theory as guideline. In addition, we consider phenomenological $Y_c N$ models from the literature to explore the sensitivity of the results to the properties of the interaction in detail. We find that a measurement of the $Λ_c p$ correlation functions could indeed allow one to discriminate between strongly attractive $Λ_c N$ forces, as predicted by some phenomenological models, and a weakly attractive interaction as suggested by the presently available lattice simulations.

$Φ$ and $J/Ψ$ Mesons in Cold Nuclear Matter

We present $Φ$- and $J/Ψ$--nuclear bound state energies and absorption widths for some selected nuclei, using potentials in the local density approximation computed from an effective Lagrangian approach combined with the quark-meson coupling model. Our results suggest that these mesons should form bound states with all the nuclei considered provided that these mesons are produced in nearly recoilless kinematics.

Disordered Bose-Einstein condensate in hard walls trap

We discuss the effects of quenched disorder in a dilute Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a hard walls trap. Starting from the disordered Gross-Pitaevskii functional, we obtain a representation for the quenched free energy as a series of integer moments of the partition function. Positive and negative disorder-dependent effective coupling constants appear in the integer moments. Going beyond the mean-field approximation, we compute the static two-point correlation functions at first-order in the positive effective coupling constants. We obtain the combined contributions of effects due to boundary conditions and disorder in this weakly disordered condensate. The ground state renormalized density profile of the condensate is presented. We also discuss the appearance of metastable and true ground states for strong disorder, when the effective coupling constants become negative.

Hadronic molecules with a ${\bar{D}}$ meson in a medium

We study the effect of a hot and dense medium on the binding energy of hadronic molecules with open-charm mesons. We focus on a recent chiral quark-model-based prediction of a molecular state in the $N \bar D$ system. We analyze how the two-body thresholds and the hadron-hadron interactions are modified when quark and meson masses and quark-meson couplings change in a function of the temperature and baryon density according to predictions of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We find that in some cases the molecular binding is enhanced in medium as compared to their free-space binding. We discuss the consequences of our findings for the search for exotic hadrons in high-energy heavy-ion collisions as well as in the forthcoming facilities FAIR or J-PARC.

Issues and Opportunities in Exotic Hadrons

The last few years have been witness to a proliferation of new results concerning heavy exotic hadrons. Experimentally, many new signals have been discovered that could be pointing towards the existence of tetraquarks, pentaquarks, and other exotic configurations of quarks and gluons. Theoretically, advances in lattice field theory techniques place us at the cusp of understanding complex coupled-channel phenomena, modelling grows more sophisticated, and effective field theories are being applied to an ever greater range of situations. It is thus an opportune time to evaluate the status of the field. In the following, a series of high priority experimental and theoretical issues concerning heavy exotic hadrons is presented.

Symmetry-preserving contact interaction model for heavy-light mesons

We use a symmetry-preserving regularization method of ultraviolet divergences in a vector-vector contact interac- tion model for low-energy QCD. The contact interaction is a representation of nonperturbative kernels used Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations. The regularization method is based on a subtraction scheme that avoids standard steps in the evaluation of divergent integrals that invariably lead to symmetry violation. Aiming at the study of heavy-light mesons, we have implemented the method to the pseudoscalar pion and Kaon mesons. We have solved the Dyson-Schwinger equation for the u, d and s quark propagators, and obtained the bound-state Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes in a way that the Ward-Green-Takahashi identities reflecting global symmetries of the model are satisfied for arbitrary routing of the momenta running in loop integrals.

Relativistic model for the nonmesonic weak decay of single-lambda hypernuclei

Having in mind its future extension for theoretical investigations related to charmed nuclei, we develop a relativistic formalism for the nonmesonic weak decay of single-$Λ$ hypernuclei in the framework of the independent-particle shell model and with the dynamics represented by the $(π,K)$ one-meson-exchange model. Numerical results for the one-nucleon-induced transition rates of ${}^{12}_Λ\textrm{C}$ are presented and compared with those obtained in the analogous nonrelativistic calculation. There is satisfactory agreement between the two approaches, and the most noteworthy difference is that the ratio $Γ_{n}/Γ_{p}$ is appreciably higher and closer to the experimental value in the relativistic calculation. Large discrepancies between ours and previous relativistic calculations are found, for which we do not encounter any fully satisfactory explanation. The most recent experimental data is well reproduced by our results. In summary, we have achieved our purpose to develop a reliable model for the relativistic calculation of the nonmesonic weak decay of $Λ$-hypernuclei, which can now be extended to evaluate similar processes in charmed nuclei.

The $ψ$(3770) resonance and its production in $\bar pp \to D \bar D$

The production of a $D\bar D$ meson-pair in antiproton-proton ($\bar p p$) annihilation close to the production threshold is investigated, with special emphasis on the role played by the $ψ$(3770) resonance. The study is performed in a meson-baryon model where the elementary charm production process is described by baryon exchange. Effects of the interactions in the initial and final states are taken into account rigorously, where the latter involves also those due to the $ψ$(3770). The predictions for the $D\bar D$ production cross section are in the range of 30 -- 250 nb, the contribution from the $ψ$(3770) resonance itself amounts to roughly 20 -- 80 nb.

Markovian versus non-Markovian stochastic quantization of a complex-action model

We analyze the Markovian and non-Markovian stochastic quantization methods for a complex action quantum mechanical model analog to a Maxwell-Chern-Simons eletrodynamics in Weyl gauge. We show through analytical methods convergence to the correct equilibrium state for both methods. Introduction of a memory kernel generates a non-Markovian process which has the effect of slowing down oscillations that arise in the Langevin-time evolution toward equilibrium of complex action problems. This feature of non-Markovian stochastic quantization might be beneficial in large scale numerical simulations of complex action field theories on a lattice.

Production of charmed pseudoscalar mesons in antiproton-proton annihilation

We study the production of charmed mesons (D, D_s) in antiproton-proton annihilation close to the reaction thresholds. The elementary charm production process is described by baryon exchange and in the constituent quark model, respectively. Effects of the interactions in the initial and final states are taken into account rigorously. The calculations are performed in close analogy to our earlier study on pbarp to KbarK by connecting the processes via SU(4) flavor symmetry. Our predictions for the DDbar production cross section are in the order of 10^{-2} -- 10^{-1} mu b. They turned out to be comparable to those obtained in other studies. The cross section for a D_sD_s pair is found to be of the same order of magnitude despite the fact that its production in pbarp scattering requires a two-step process.

Relativistic Bose-Einstein condensation with disorder

We investigate the thermodynamics of a self-interacting relativistic charged scalar field in the presence of weak disorder. We consider quenched disorder which couples linearly to the mass of the scalar field. After performing noise averages over the free energy of the system, we find that disorder increases the mean-field critical temperature for Bose-Einstein condensation at finite density. The effect of disorder on the temperature dependence of the chemical potential for a fixed charge density is investigated. Significant differences from the mean-field temperature dependence of the chemical potential are observed as the strength of the noise intensity increases. Finally, the temperature dependence of the chemical potential with fixed total charge and entropy is investigated. It is found that there is no Bose-Einstein condensation for a fixed charge to entropy ratio in the presence of weak disorder. The possible relevance of the findings in the present paper in different areas is discussed.

$η(T)/s (T)$ and collective flow in chiral hydrodynamics

Using relativistic conformal hydrodynamics coupled to the linear $σ$ model we study the evolution of matter created in heavy--ion collisions. We focus the study on the influence of the dynamics of the chiral fields on the charged-hadron elliptic flow $v_2$ for a temperature--independent as well as for a temperature--dependent $η/s$ that is calculated from kinetic theory. We find that $v_2$ is not very sensitive to the coupling of chiral fields to the hydrodynamic evolution, but the temperature dependence of $η/s$ plays a much bigger role on this observable.

DbarN interaction in a color-confining chiral quark model

We investigate the low-energy elastic DbarN interaction using a quark model that confines color and realizes dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. The model is defined by a microscopic Hamiltonian inspired in the QCD Hamiltonian in Coulomb gauge. Constituent quark masses are obtained by solving a gap equation and baryon and meson bound-state wave functions are obtained using a variational method. We derive a low energy meson-nucleon potential from a quark-interchange mechanism whose ingredients are the quark-quark and quark-antiquark interactions and baryon and meson wave functions, all derived from the same microscopic Hamiltonian. The model is supplemented with (sigma,rho,omega,a0) single-meson exchanges to describe the long-range part of the interaction. Cross-sections and phase shifts are obtained by iterating the quark-interchange plus meson-exchange potentials in a Lippmann-Schwinger equation. Once model parameters in meson exchange potential are fixed to describe the low-energy experimental phase shifts of the K+N and K0N reactions, predictions for Dbar0N and D-N reactions are obtained without introducing new parameters.

$J/Ψ$ mass shift and $J/Ψ$-nuclear bound state

We calculate mass shift of the $J/Ψ$ meson in nuclear matter arising from the modification of $DD, DD^*$ and $D^*D^*$ meson loop contributions to the $J/Ψ$ self-energy. The estimate includes the in-medium $D$ and $D^*$ meson masses consistently. The $J/Ψ$ mass shift (scalar potential) calculated is negative (attractive), and complementary to the attractive potential obtained from the QCD color van der Waals forces. Some results for the $J/Ψ$-nuclear bound state energies are also presented.

preprint2011arXiv

$J/Ψ$-nuclear bound states

$J/Ψ$-nuclear bound state energies are calculated for a range of nuclei by solving the Proca (Klein-Gordon) equation. Critical input for the calculations, namely the medium-modified $D$ and $D^*$ meson masses, as well as the nucleon density distributions in nuclei, are obtained from the quark-meson coupling model. The attractive potential originates from the $D$ and $D^*$ meson loops in the $J/Ψ$ self-energy in nuclear medium. It appears that $J/Ψ$-nuclear bound states should produce a clear experimental signature provided that the $J/Ψ$ meson is produced in recoilless kinematics.

Dissipative hydrodynamics coupled to chiral fields

Using second--order dissipative hydrodynamics coupled self-consistently to the linear $σ$ model we study the 2+1 dimensional evolution of the fireball created in Au+Au relativistic collisions. We analyze the influence of the dynamics of the chiral fields on the charged-hadron elliptic flow $v_2$ and on the ratio $v_4/(v_2)^2$ for a temperature-independent as well as for a temperature-dependent viscosity-to-entropy ratio $η/s$ calculated from the linearized Boltzmann equation in the relaxation time approximation. We find that $v_2$ is not very sensitive to the coupling of chiral sources to the hydrodynamic evolution, but the temperature dependence of $η/s$ plays a much bigger role on this observable. On the other hand, the ratio $v_4/(v_2)^2$ turns out to be much more sensitive than $v_2$ to both the coupling of the chiral sources and the temperature dependence of $η/s$.

DN interaction from the Juelich meson-exchange model

The $DN$ interaction is studied in close analogy to the meson-exchange $\bar KN$ potential of the Juelich group using SU(4) symmetry constraints. The model generates the $Λ_c$(2595) resonance dynamically as a $DN$ quasi-bound state. Results for $DN$ scattering lengths and cross sections are presented and compared with predictions based on the Weinberg-Tomozawa term. Some features of the $Λ_c$(2595) resonance are also discussed emphasizing the role of the near-by $πΣ_c$ threshold.

Scalar Quantum Field Theory in Disordered Media

A free massive scalar field in inhomogeneous random media is investigated. The coefficients of the Klein-Gordon equation are taken to be random functions of the spatial coordinates. The case of an annealed-like disordered medium, modeled by centered stationary and Gaussian processes, is analyzed. After performing the averages over the random functions, we obtain the two-point causal Green's function of the model up to one-loop. The disordered scalar quantum field theory becomes qualitatively similar to a $λϕ^{4}$ self-interacting theory with a frequency-dependent coupling.

Thermal Radiation from a Fluctuating Event Horizon

We consider a pointlike two-level system undergoing uniformly accelerated motion. We evaluate the transition probability for a finite time interval of this system coupled to a massless scalar field near a fluctuating event horizon. Horizon fluctuations are modeled using a random noise which generates light-cone fluctuations. We study the case of centered, stationary and Gaussian random processes. The transition probability of the system is obtained from the positive-frequency Wightman function calculated to one loop order in the noise averaging process. Our results show that the fluctuating horizon modifies the thermal radiation but leaves unchanged the temperature associated with the acceleration.

Analog model for quantum gravity effects: phonons in random fluids

We describe an analog model for quantum gravity effects in condensed matter physics. The situation discussed is that of phonons propagating in a fluid with a random velocity wave equation. We consider that there are random fluctuations in the reciprocal of the bulk modulus of the system and study free phonons in the presence of Gaussian colored noise with zero mean. We show that in this model, after performing the random averages over the noise function a free conventional scalar quantum field theory describing free phonons becomes a self-interacting model.

Charm production in antiproton-proton annihilation

We study the production of charmed mesons (D) and baryons (Lambda_c) in antiproton-proton (app) annihilation close to their respective production thresholds. The elementary charm production process is described by either baryon/meson exchange or by quark/gluon dynamics. Effects of the interactions in the initial and final states are taken into account rigorously. The calculations are performed in close analogy to our earlier study on app -> antiLambda-Lambda and app -> antiK-K by connecting the processes via SU(4) flavor symmetry. Our predictions for the antiLambda_c-Lambda_c production cross section are in the order of 1 to 7 mb, i.e. a factor of around 10-70 smaller than the corresponding cross sections for antiLambda-Lambda However, they are 100 to 1000 times larger than predictions of other model calculations in the literature. On the other hand, the resulting cross sections for antiD-D production are found to be in the order of 10^{-2} -- 10^{-1} microbarn and they turned out to be comparable to those obtained in other studies.

DN interaction from meson exchange

A model of the DN interaction is presented which is developed in close analogy to the meson-exchange KbarN potential of the Juelich group utilizing SU(4) symmetry constraints. The main ingredients of the interaction are provided by vector meson (rho, omega) exchange and higher-order box diagrams involving D*N, DΔ, and D*Δintermediate states. The coupling of DN to the pi-Lambda_c and pi-Sigma_c channels is taken into account. The interaction model generates the Lambda_c(2595) resonance dynamically as a DN quasi-bound state. Results for DN total and differential cross sections are presented and compared with predictions of an interaction model that is based on the leading-order Weinberg-Tomozawa term. Some features of the Lambda_c(2595) resonance are discussed and the role of the near-by pi-Sigma_c threshold is emphasized. Selected predictions of the orginal KbarN model are reported too. Specifically, it is pointed out that the model generates two poles in the partial wave corresponding to the Lambda(1405) resonance.

Screened potential and quarkonia properties at high temperatures

We perform a quark model calculation of the quarkonia $b\overline{b}$ and $c\overline{c}$ spectra using smooth and sudden string breaking potentials. The screening parameter is scale dependent and can be related to an effective running gluon mass that has a finite infrared fixed point. A temperature dependence for the screening mass is motivated by lattice QCD simulations at finite temperature. Qualitatively different results are obtained for quarkonia properties close to a critical value of the deconfining temperature when a smooth or a sudden string breaking potential is used. In particular, with a sudden string breaking potential quarkonia radii remain almost independent of the temperature up to the critical point, only well above the critical point the radii increase significantly. Such a behavior will impact the phenomenology of quarkonia interactions in medium, in particular for scattering dissociation processes.

The reaction ppbar -> Lambda_c-Lambda_cbar close to threshold

Predictions for the charm-production reaction antiproton-proton -> antiLambda_c-Lambda_c for energies near the threshold are presented. The calculations are performed in a meson-exchange framework in close analogy to our earlier study on antiproton-proton -> antiLambda-Lambda by connecting the two processes via SU(4) symmetry. The obtained antiLambda_c-Lambda_c production cross sections are in the order of 1 to 7 \mub, i.e. a factor of around 10 smaller than the corresponding cross sections for antiLambda-Lambda. However, they are 100 to 1000 times larger than predictions of other model calculations in the literature.

Memory Effect and Fast Spinodal Decomposition

We consider the modification of the Cahn-Hilliard equation when a time delay process through a memory function is taken into account. We then study the process of spinodal decomposition in fast phase transitions associated with a conserved order parameter. The introduced memory effect plays an important role to obtain a finite group velocity. Then, we discuss the constraint for the parameters to satisfy causality. The memory effect is seen to affect the dynamics of phase transition at short times and has the effect of delaying, in a significant way, the process of rapid growth of the order parameter that follows a quench into the spinodal region.

Influence of a Z+(1540) resonance on K+N scattering

The impact of a (I=0, J^P=1/2^+) Z^+(1540) resonance with a width of 5 MeV or more on the K+N (I=0) elastic cross section and on the P01 phase shift is examined within the KN meson-exchange model of the Juelich group. It is shown that the rather strong enhancement of the cross section caused by the presence of a Z^+ with the above properties is not compatible with the existing empirical information on KN scattering. Only a much narrower Z^+ state could be reconciled with the existing data -- or, alternatively, the Z^+ state must lie at an energy much closer to the KN threshold.

Chiral aspects of hadron structure

Chiral loop corrections for hadronic properties are considered in a constituent quark model. It is emphasized that the correct implementation of such corrections requires a sum over intermediate hadronic states. The leading non-analytic corrections are very important for baryon magnetic moments and explain the failure of the sum rule $(μ_{Σ^{+}}+2μ_{Σ^{-}})/μ_Λ=-1$ predicted by the constituent quark model.

Fock terms in the quark-meson coupling model

The mean field description of nuclear matter in the quark-meson coupling model is improved by the inclusion of exchange contributions (Fock terms). The inclusion of Fock terms allows us to explore the momentum dependence of meson-nucleon vertices and the role of pionic degrees of freedom in matter. It is found that the Fock terms maintain the previous predictions of the model for the in-medium properties of the nucleon and for the nuclear incompressibility. The Fock terms significantly increase the absolute values of the single-particle, four-component scalar and vector potentials, a feature that is relevant for the spin-orbit splitting in finite nuclei.

Second quantization approach to composite hadron interactions in quark models

Starting from the Fock space representation of hadron bound states in a quark model, a change of representation is implemented by a unitary transformation such that the composite hadrons are redescribed by elementary-particle field operators. Application of the unitary transformation to the microscopic quark Hamiltonian gives rise to effective hadron-hadron, hadron-quark, and quark-quark Hamiltonians. An effective baryon Hamiltonian is derived using a simple quark model. The baryon Hamiltonian is free of the post-prior discrepancy which usually plagues composite-particle effective interactions.
