$Δ$L=2 hyperon decays induced by Majorana neutrinos and doubly-charged scalars

Searches for $ΔL=2$ decays are crucial to disentangle the Dirac vs Majorana nature of neutrinos. While neutrinoless nuclear double beta decays are the most promising tool to look for di-electron signals of $ΔL=2$, searches of di-lepton channels with other flavors are far less limited by statistics. We revisit the calculation of $ΔL=2$ decays of hyperons $B^-_i\to B^+_f\ell^-\ell'^-$. We compute the rates of these decays by including the hyperon form factors, which yields finite results in the one-loop model mechanism involving Majorana neutrinos (long-range contributions). In addition, we study the short-range contributions to these kinds of processes in two appealing scenarios. First, we consider the effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos in low-scale seesaw models that involve a minimal parametrization with only two heavy Majorana states. Second, we study an alternative model where $ΔL=2$ decays are induced by a scalar boson coupled to di-leptons to provide additional predictions.

One-loop determination of $τ\to π(K) ν_τ[γ]$ branching ratios and new physics tests

We calculate the ratios $R_{τ/ P}\equiv Γ\left( τ\to P ν_τ[γ] \right) / Γ\left(P\to μν_μ[γ]\right)$ ($P=π,K$) at one loop following a large-$N_C$ expansion where Chiral Perturbation Theory is enlarged by including the lightest resonances and respecting the short-distance behavior dictated by QCD. We find $δR_{τ/π}=(0.18\pm 0.57 )\%$ and $δR_{τ/K}=(0.97\pm 0.58 )\%$, where the uncertainties are induced fundamentally by the counterterms. We test the lepton universality, obtaining $\left|g_τ/g_μ\right|_π=0.9964\pm 0.0038$ and $\left|g_τ/g_μ\right|_K=0.9857\pm 0.0078$, and analyze the CKM unitarity, getting results at $2.1σ$ and $1.5σ$ from unitarity via $|V_{us}/V_{ud}|$ and $|V_{us}|$, respectively. We also update the search for non-standard interactions in $τ$ decays. As a by-product, we report the theoretical radiative corrections to the $τ\to P ν_τ[γ]$ decay rates: $δ_{τπ} = -(0.24 \pm 0.56) \%$ and $δ_{τK} = -(0.15 \pm 0.57) \%$.} \maketitle

Effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos on lepton flavor violating processes

The observation of lepton flavor violating processes at colliders could be a clear signal of a non-minimal neutrino sector. We define a 5-parameter model with a pair of TeV fermion singlets and arbitrary mixings with the three active neutrino flavors. Then we analyze several flavor violating transitions ($\ell\to \ell^{\prime}γ,\,\ell^{\prime}\ell^{\prime\prime}\bar{\ell}^{\prime\prime\prime}$ or $μ-e$ conversions in nuclei) and $Z\to\bar{\ell}\,\ell^{\prime}$ decays induced by the presence of heavy neutrinos. In particular, we calculate all the one-loop contributions to these processes and present their analytic expressions. We focus on the genuine effects of the heavy Majorana masses, comparing the results in that case with the ones obtained when the two heavy neutrinos define a Dirac field. Finally, we use our results to update the bounds on the heavy-light mixings in the neutrino sector.

The $ρ$ parameter and $H^0\to \ell_i \ell_j$ in models with TeV sterile neutrinos

The presence of massive sterile neutrinos $N$ mixed with the active ones induces flavor violating processes in the charged lepton sector at the loop level. In particular, the amplitude of $H^0\to \bar{\ell}_i\ell_j$ is expected to be proportional to the product of heavy-light Yukawa couplings $y_iy_j=2 \,s_{ν_i} s_{ν_j}\, m_N^2/v^2$, where $s_{ν_{i,j}}$ express the heavy-light neutrino mixings. Here we revisit these Higgs decays in the most generic extension of the neutrino sector, focusing on large values of $y_{i}$. We show that decoupling effects and a cancellation between the two dominant contributions to these processes makes the amplitude about one hundred times smaller than anticipated. We find that perturbative values of $y_{i}$ giving an acceptable contribution to the $ρ$ parameter imply ${\cal B}(H^0\to \bar{\ell}_i\ell_j)<10^{-8}$ for any lepton flavors, a rate that is not accessible at current colliders.

Flavor violating leptonic decays of $τ$ and $μ$ leptons in the Standard Model with massive neutrinos

We have revisited the computations of the flavor violating leptonic decays of the $τ$ and $μ$ leptons into three lighter charged leptons in the Standard Model with non-vanishing neutrino masses. We were driven by a claimed unnaturally large branching ratio predicted for the $τ^-\to μ^- \ell^+ \ell^-$ ($\ell=μ, e$) decays \cite{Pham:1998fq}, which was at odds with the corresponding predictions for the $μ^-\to e^- e^-e^+$ processes \cite{Petcov:1976ff}. In contrast with the prediction in \cite{Pham:1998fq}, our results are strongly suppressed and in good agreement with the approximation done in ref.~\cite{Petcov:1976ff}, where masses and momenta of the external particles were neglected in order to deal with the loop integrals. However, as a result of keeping external momenta and masses in the computation of the dominant penguin and box diagrams- we even find slightly smaller branching fractions. Therefore, we confirm that any future observation of such processes would be an unambiguous manifestation of new physics beyond the Standard Model

$WWV$ $(V=γ,Z)$ vertex in the Georgi-Machacek model

The CP-even static form factors $Δκ'_V$ and $ΔQ_V$ ($V=γ,\, Z$) associated with the $WWV$ vertex are studied in the context of the Georgi-Machacek model (GMM), which predicts nine new scalar bosons accommodated in a singlet, a triplet and a fiveplet. General expressions for the one-loop contributions to $Δκ'_V$ and $ΔQ_V$ arising from neutral, singly and doubly charged scalar bosons are obtained in terms of both parametric integrals and Passarino-Veltman scalar functions, which can be numerically evaluated. It is found that the GMM yields 15 (28) distinct contributions to $Δκ'_γ$ and $ΔQ_γ$ ($Δκ'_Z$ and $ΔQ_Z$), though several of them are naturally suppressed. A numerical analysis is done in the region of parameter space still consistent with current experimental data and it is found that the largest contributions to $Δκ'_V$ arise from Feynman diagrams with two nondegenerate scalar bosons in the loop, with values of the order of $a=g^2/(96π^2)$ reached when there is a large splitting between the masses of these scalar bosons. As for $ΔQ_V$, it reaches values as large as $10^{-2}a$ for the lightest allowed scalar bosons, but it decreases rapidly as one of the masses of the scalar bosons becomes large. Among the new contributions of the GMM to the $Δκ'_V$ and $ΔQ_V$ form factors are those induced by the $H_5^\pm W^\mp Z$ vertex, which arises at the tree-level and is a unique prediction of this model.

Has a Higgs-flavon with a $750$ GeV mass been detected at the LHC13?

Higgs-flavon fields appear as a part of the Froggatt-Nielsen (FN) mechanism, which attempts to explain the hierarchy of Yukawa couplings. We explore the possibility that the 750 GeV diphoton resonance recently reported at the LHC13, could be identified with a low-scale Higgs-flavon field $H_F$ and find the region of the parameter space consistent with CMS and ATLAS data. It is found that the extra vector-like fermions of the ultraviolet completion of the FN mechanism are necessary in order to reproduce the observed signal. We consider a standard model (SM) extension that contains two Higgs doublets (a standard one and an inert one) and one complex FN singlet. The inert doublet includes a stable neutral boson, which provides a viable dark matter candidate, while the mixing of the standard doublet and the FN singlet induces flavor violation in the Higgs sector at the tree-level. Constraints on the parameters of the model are derived from the LHC Higgs data, which include the search for the lepton flavor violating decay of the SM Higgs boson $h\to \barμτ$. It is also found that in some region of the parameter space the model may give rise to a large branching ratio for the $H_F \to hh$ decay, of the order of 0.1, which could be searched for at the LHC.

Decay $t-> cγ$ in models with SU_L(3)XU_X(1) gauge symmetry

The one-loop level mediated $t-> c γ$ decay is analyzed in the framework of 331 models, which induce three-level flavor-changing neutral currents mediated by an extra neutral gauge boson, Z', and a neutral scalar boson, ϕ. These models also predict new charged gauge and scalar bosons, together with three new quarks, which can be exotic (with electric charges of -4/3e and 5/3e) or standard model like. Apart from the contribution of the W boson, the $t\to cγ$ decay receives contributions induced by the extra gauge boson and the neutral scalar boson, which are generic for 331 models. In the so-called minimal 331 model, there are additional contributions from the new charged gauge and scalar bosons accompanied by the exotic quarks. We present analytical results for the most general $t-> cγ$ amplitude in terms of transcendental functions. For the numerical analysis we focus on the minimal 331 model: the current bounds on the model parameters are examined and a particular scenario is discussed in which the corresponding branching ratio could be of the order of 10^{-6}, with the dominant contributions arising from the charged gauge bosons and a relatively light neutral scalar boson with flavor-changing couplings, whereas the Z' contribution would be of the order of 10^{-9} for m_{Z'}>2 TeV. However, a further suppression could be expected due to a potential suppression of the values of the flavor-changing coupling constants. Under the same assumptions, in 331 models without exotic quarks, the $t-> cγ$ branching ratio would receive the dominant contribution from the neutral scalar boson, which could be of the order of 10^{-7} for a Higgs mass of a few hundreds of GeVs.
