Zero-Assignment Constraint for Graph Matching with Outliers

Graph matching (GM), as a longstanding problem in computer vision and pattern recognition, still suffers from numerous cluttered outliers in practical applications. To address this issue, we present the zero-assignment constraint (ZAC) for approaching the graph matching problem in the presence of outliers. The underlying idea is to suppress the matchings of outliers by assigning zero-valued vectors to the potential outliers in the obtained optimal correspondence matrix. We provide elaborate theoretical analysis to the problem, i.e., GM with ZAC, and figure out that the GM problem with and without outliers are intrinsically different, which enables us to put forward a sufficient condition to construct valid and reasonable objective function. Consequently, we design an efficient outlier-robust algorithm to significantly reduce the incorrect or redundant matchings caused by numerous outliers. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method can achieve the state-of-the-art performance in terms of accuracy and efficiency, especially in the presence of numerous outliers.

Landau-Zener-Stückelberg Interferometry in $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Non-Hermitian models

We systematically investigate the non-Hermitian generalisations of the Landau-Zener (LZ) transition and the Landau-Zener-Stückelberg (LZS) interferometry. The LZ transition probabilities, or band populations, are calculated for a generic non-Hermitian model and their asymptotic behaviour analysed. We then focus on non-Hermitian systems with a real adiabatic parameter and study the LZS interferometry formed out of two identical avoided level crossings. Four distinctive cases of interferometry are identified and the analytic formulae for the transition probabilities are calculated for each case. The differences and similarities between the non-Hermitian case and its Hermitian counterpart are emphasised. In particular, the geometrical phase originated from the sign change of the mass term at the two level crossings is still present in the non-Hermitian system, indicating its robustness against the non-Hermiticity. We further apply our non-Hermitian LZS theory to describing the Bloch oscillation in one-dimensional parity-time $(\mathcal{PT})$ reversal symmetric non-Hermitian Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model and propose an experimental scheme to simulate such dynamics using photonic waveguide arrays. The Landau-Zener transition, as well as the LZS interferometry, can be visualised through the beam intensity profile and the transition probabilitiess measured by the centre of mass of the profile.

Creation of an ultracold gas of ground-state $^{23}\rm{Na}^{87}\rm{Rb}$ molecules

We report the successful production of an ultracold sample of absolute ground-state $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb molecules. Starting from weakly-bound Feshbach molecules formed via magneto-association, the lowest rovibrational and hyperfine level of the electronic ground state is populated following a high efficiency and high resolution two-photon Raman process. The high purity absolute ground-state samples have up to 8000 molecules and densities of over $10^{11}$ cm$^{-3}$. By measuring the Stark shifts induced by external electric fields, we determined the permanent electric dipole moment of the absolute ground-state $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb and demonstrated the capability of inducing an effective dipole moment over one Debye. Bimolecular reaction between ground-state $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb molecules is endothermic, but we still observed a rather fast decay of the molecular sample. Our results pave the way toward investigation of ultracold molecular collisions in a fully controlled manner, and possibly to quantum gases of ultracold bosonic molecules with strong dipolar interactions.

Long-range states of the NaRb molecule near the Na($3^2S_{1/2}$)+Rb($5^2P_{3/2}$) asymptote

We report a high-resolution spectroscopic investigation of the long-range states of the $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb molecule near its Na($3^2S_{1/2}$)+Rb($5^2P_{3/2}$) asymptote. This study was performed with weakly bound ultracold molecules produced via magneto-association with an inter-species Feshbach resonance. We observed several regular vibrational series, which are assigned to the 5 attractive long-range states correlated with this asymptote. The vibrational levels of two of these states have sharp but complex structures due to hyperfine and Zeeman interactions. For the other states, we observed significant linewidth broadenings due to strong predissociation caused by spin-orbit couplings with states correlated to the lower Na($3^2S_{1/2}$)+Rb($5^2P_{1/2}$) asymptote. The long-range $C_6$ van der Waals coefficients extracted from our spectrum are in good agreement with theoretical values.

A double species $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb Bose-Einstein condensate with tunable miscibility via an interspecies Feshbach resonance

We have realized a dual-species Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb atoms and observed their immiscibility. Because of the favorable background intra- and inter-species scattering lengths, stable condensates can be obtained via efficient evaporative cooling and sympathetic cooling without the need for fine tuning of the interactions. Our system thus provides a clean platform for studying inter-species interactions driven effects in superfluid mixtures. With a Feshbach resonance, we have successfully created double BECs with largely tunable inter-species interactions and studied the miscible-immiscible phase transition.

Coherent heteronuclear spin dynamics in an ultracold spin-1 mixture

We report the observation of coherent heteronuclear spin dynamics driven by inter-species spin-spin interaction in an ultracold spinor mixture, which manifests as periodical and well correlated spin oscillations between two atomic species. In particular, we investigate the magnetic field dependence of the oscillations and find a resonance behavior which depends on {\em both} the linear and quadratic Zeeman effects and the spin-dependent interaction. We also demonstrate a unique knob for controlling the spin dynamics in the spinor mixture with species-dependent vector light shifts. Our finds are in agreement with theoretical simulations without any fitting parameters.

Coherent spin mixing dynamics in thermal $^{87}$Rb spin-1 and spin-2 gases

We study the non-equilibrium coherent spin mixing dynamics in ferromagnetic spin-1 and antiferromagnetic spin-2 thermal gases of ultracold $^{87}$Rb atoms. Long lasting spin population oscillations with magnetic field dependent resonances are observed in both cases. Our observations are well reproduced by Boltzmann equations of the Wigner distribution function. Compared to the equation of motion of spinor Bose-Einstein condensates, the only difference here is a factor of two increase in the spin-dependent interaction, which is confirmed directly in the spin-2 case by measuring the relation between the oscillation amplitude and the sample's density.

Formation of Ultracold NaRb Feshbach Molecules

We report the creation of ultracold bosonic $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb Feshbach molecules via magneto-association. By ramping the magnetic field across an interspecies Feshbach resonance, at least 4000 molecules can be produced out of the near degenerate ultracold mixture. Fast loss due to inelastic atom-molecule collisions is observed, which limits the pure molecule number, after residual atoms removal, to 1700. The pure molecule sample can live for 21.8(8) ms in the optical trap, long enough for future molecular spectroscopy studies toward coherently transferring to the singlet ro-vibrational ground state, where these molecules are stable against chemical reaction and have a permanent electric dipole moment of 3.3 Debye. We have also measured the Feshbach molecule's binding energy near the Feshbach resonance by the oscillating magnetic field method and found these molecules have a large closed-channel fraction.

Observation of Feshbach resonances between ultracold Na and Rb atoms

We have successfully prepared an optically trapped ultracold mixture of $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb atoms and studied their interspecies Feshbach resonances. Using two different spin combinations, several s-wave and p-wave resonances are identified by observing a high inelastic loss and a temperature rising for both species near resonant magnetic field values. The two s-wave resonances observed below 500 G between atoms in the lowest energy level are possible candidates for Feshbach molecule association. Our results are well characterized by a coupled-channel model and are used refining the ground state interaction potentials between $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb. This work opens up the prospect for preparing ultracold ensembles of ground-state bosonic NaRb molecules which are chemically stable and can provide strong dipolar interactions.

Production of a rubidium Bose-Einstein condensate in a hybrid trap with light induced atom desorption

We report on the production of a rubidium Bose-Einstein condensate in a simplified vacuum apparatus. Magneto-optical traps with large numbers and ultra-high vacuum for moderately long conservative trap lifetimes of 16 seconds are sequentially obtained with light induced rapid atomic vapor pressure modulation. Subsequent evaporative cooling is carried out in two stages in a hybrid magnetic quadrupole plus optical dipole trap. High evaporation efficiencies are observed in both stages and $^{87}$Rb BECs with more than 10$^5$ atoms can be reliably produced with total evaporation time of only 9.5 seconds.
