GW170817 and GW190425 as Hybrid Stars of Dark and Nuclear Matters

We propose three scenarios for compact hybrid stars composed of nuclear and dark matter. These hybrid stars could provide alternative interpretations to the LIGO/Virgo events GW170817 and GW190425. To demonstrate our proposal, we solve the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff configurations of hybrid stars by using the SLy4, APR4, and SKb equations of state (EoS) for nuclear matter, and an EoS for a bosonic self interacting dark matter (SIDM) proposed by Colpi et al \cite{Colpi:1986ye}. We then obtain their mass-radius and tidal Love number (TLN)-mass relations, and further examine the possible saddle instability of these compact objects by the generalized Bardeen-Thorne-Meltzer (BTM) criteria. Our results show that the hybrid star scenarios are able to explain GW170817 and GW190425. Some hybrid stars can have compact neutron or mixed cores around 10 km while possessing thick dark matter shells, thus they can be more massive than the maximum mass of the typical neutron stars but are electromagnetically detected with about the same size of neutron stars. Reversely, we also infer the dark matter model from the parameter estimation of GW190425. Our proposed hybrid stars can be further tested by the coming LIGO/Virgo O3 events.

Self-interacting Dark Scalar Spikes around Black Holes via Relativistic Bondi Accretion

We consider the spike mass density profile in a dark halo by self-consistently solving the relativistic Bondi accretion of dark matter onto a non-spining black hole of mass $M$. We assume that the dominant component of the dark matter in the halo is a Standard model gauge-singlet scalar. Its mass $m\simeq 10^{-5}{\rm eV}$ and quartic self-coupling $λ\lesssim10^{-19}$ are constrained to be compatible with the properties of galactic dark halos. In the hydrodynamic limit, we find that the accretion rate is bounded from below, $\dot{M}_{\rm min}=96πG^2M^2 m^4/λ\hbar^3$. Therefore, for $M=10^6~{\rm M}_\odot$ we have $\dot{M}_{\rm min}\simeq1.41\times 10^{-9}~{\rm M}_\odot~{\rm yr}^{-1}$, which is subdominant compared to the Eddington accretion of baryons. The spike density profile $ρ_0(r)$ within the self-gravitating regime cannot be fitted well by a single-power law but a double-power one. Despite that, we can fit $ρ_0(r)$ piecewise and find that $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.20}$ near the sound horizon, $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.00}$ towards the Bondi radius and $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.08}$ for the region in between. This contrasts with more cuspy $ρ_0(r) \propto r^{-1.75}$ for dark matter with Coulomb-like self-interaction.

Conditional Noise Deep Learning for Parameter Estimation of Gravitational Wave Events

We construct a Bayesian inference deep learning machine for parameter estimation of gravitational wave events of binaries of black hole coalescence. The structure of our deep Bayesian machine adopts the conditional variational autoencoder scheme by conditioning on both the gravitational wave strains and the variations of the amplitude spectral density (ASD) of the detector noise. We show that our deep Bayesian machine is capable of yielding posteriors compatible with the ones from the nested sampling method and better than the one without conditioning on the ASD. Our result implies that the process of parameter estimation can be accelerated significantly by deep learning even with large ASD drifting/variation. We also apply our deep Bayesian machine to the LIGO/Virgo O3 events, the result is compatible with the one by the traditional Bayesian inference method for the gravitational wave events with signal-to-noise ratios higher than typical threshold value. We also discuss some possible ways for future improvement.

Constraints on low-energy effective theories from weak cosmic censorship

We examine the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) for the extremal charged black hole in possible generalizations of Einstein-Maxwell theory due to the higher order corrections, up to fourth-derivative terms. Our derivation is based on Wald's gedanken experiment to destroy an extremal black hole. We find that, provided the null energy condition for the falling matter, the WCCC is preserved for all possible generalizations. Thus, the WCCC cannot serve as a constraint to the higher order effective theories. We also show that up to first order variations of black hole mass and charge, WCCC is preserved for non-rotating extremal black holes in all $n$-dimensional diffeomorphism-covariant theories of gravity and $U(1)$ gauge field.

Neural Network flows of low q-state Potts and clock Models

It is known that a trained Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM) on the binary Monte Carlo Ising spin configurations, generates a series of iterative reconstructed spin configurations which spontaneously flow and stabilize to the critical point of physical system. Here we construct a variety of Neural Network (NN) flows using the RBM and (variational) autoencoders, to study the q-state Potts and clock models on the square lattice for q = 2, 3, 4. The NN are trained on Monte Carlo spin configurations at various temperatures. We find that the trained NN flow does develop a stable point that coincides with critical point of the q-state spin models. The behavior of the NN flow is nontrivial and generative, since the training is unsupervised and without any prior knowledge about the critical point and the Hamiltonian of the underlying spin model. Moreover, we find that the convergence of the flow is independent of the types of NNs and spin models, hinting a universal behavior. Our results strengthen the potential applicability of the notion of the NN flow in studying various states of matter and offer additional evidence on the connection with the Renormalization Group flow.

Compact Star of Holographic Nuclear Matter and GW170817

We use a holographic model of quantum chromodynamics to extract the equation of state (EoS) for the cold nuclear matter of moderate baryon density. This model is based on the Sakai-Sugimoto model in the deconfined Witten's geometry with the additional point-like D4-brane instanton configuration as the holographic baryons. Our EoS takes the following doubly-polytropic form: $ ε=2.629 {\cal A}^{-0.192} p^{1.192}+0.131 {\cal A}^{0.544} p^{0.456}$ with $\cal A$ a tunable parameter of order $10^{-1}$, where $ε$ and $p$ are the energy density and pressure, respectively. The sound speed satisfies the causality constraint and breaks the sound barrier. We solve the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations for the compact stars and obtain the reasonable compactness for the proper choices of $\cal A$. Based on these configurations we further calculate the tidal deformability of the single and binary stars. We find our results agree with the inferred values of LIGO/Virgo data analysis for GW170817.

Decoherence of Topological Qubit in Linear and Circular Motions: Decoherence Impedance, Anti-Unruh and Information Backflow

In this paper, we consider the decoherence patterns of a topological qubit made of two Majorana zero modes in the generic linear and circular motions in the Minkowski spacetime. We show that the reduced dynamics is exact without Markov approximation. Our results imply that the acceleration will cause thermalization as expected by Unruh effect. However, for the short-time scale, we find the rate of decoherence is anti-correlated with the acceleration, as kind of decoherence impedance. This is in fact related to the "anti-Unruh" phenomenon previously found by studying the transition probability of Unruh-DeWitt detector. We also obtain the information backflow by some time modulations of coupling constant or acceleration, which is a characteristic of the underlying non-Markovian reduced dynamics. Moreover, by exploiting the nonlocal nature of the topological qubit, we find that some incoherent accelerations of the constituent Majorana zero modes can preserve the coherence instead of thermalizing it.

K-theoretic classification of fermionic operator mixings in holographic conformal field theories

In this paper, we apply the K-theory scheme of classifying the topological insulators/superconductors to classify the topological classes of the massive multi-flavor fermions in anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. In the context of AdS/CFT correspondence, the multi-flavor fermionic mass matrix is dual to the pattern of operator mixing in the boundary conformal field theory (CFT). Thus, our results classify the possible patterns of operator mixings among fermionic operators in the holographic CFT.

Refined Characterization of Lattice Chern Insulators by Bulk Entanglement Spectrum

We have studied extensively the band crossing patterns of the bulk entanglement spectrum (BES) for various lattice Chern insulators. We find that only partitions with dual symmetry can have either stable nodal-lines or nodal-points in the BES when the system is in the topological phase of a nonzero Chern number. By deforming the Hamiltonian to lift the accidental symmetry, one can see that only nodal points are robust. They thus should bear certain topological characteristics of the BES. By studying the band crossing patterns in details we conclude that the topological characteristics of the BES are inherited from the topological order of the underlying Chern insulators and the former can have more refined topological structures. We then propose the conjecture that the sum of the vorticities in the BES in a properly chosen reduced Brillouin zone equals the Chern number of the underlying Chern insulator. This relation is beyond the usual classification scheme of topological insulators/superconductors.

Thermality and excited state Rényi entropy in two-dimensional CFT

We evaluate one-interval Rényi entropy and entanglement entropy for the excited states of two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) on a cylinder, and examine their differences from the ones for the thermal state. We assume the interval to be short so that we can use operator product expansion (OPE) of twist operators to calculate Rényi entropy in terms of sum of one-point functions of OPE blocks. We find that the entanglement entropy for highly excited state and thermal state behave the same way after appropriate identification of the conformal weight of the state with the temperature. However, there exists no such universal identification for the Rényi entropy in the short-interval expansion. Therefore, the highly excited state does not look thermal when comparing its Rényi entropy to the thermal state one. As the Rényi entropy captures the higher moments of the reduced density matrix but the entanglement entropy only the average, our results imply that the emergence of thermality depends on how refined we look into the entanglement structure of the underlying pure excited state.

Towards Holographic Quantum Energy Teleportation

We propose a simplified protocol of quantum energy teleportation (QET) for holographic conformal field theory (CFT) in 3-dimensional anti-de Sitter space with or without black hole. As a tentative proposal, we simplify the standard QET by replacing Alice's local measurement with the local projection, which excites the system from ground state into a particular state dual to a Banados geometry. We then mimic Bob's local operation of the usual QET for extracting energy by deforming the UV surface with a local bump. Adopting the surface/state duality this deformation corresponds to local unitary. We evaluate the extraction of energy from the holographic stress tensor, and find that Bob always gains energy extraction in our protocol. This could be related to the positive energy theorem of the dual gravity. Moreover, the ratio of extraction energy to injection one is a universal function of the UV surface deformation profile.

Entanglement renormalization and integral geometry

We revisit the applications of integral geometry in AdS$_3$ and argue that the metric of the kinematic space can be realized as the entanglement contour, which is defined as the additive entanglement density. From the renormalization of the entanglement contour, we can holographically understand the operations of disentangler and isometry in multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz. Furthermore, a renormalization group equation of the long-distance entanglement contour is then derived. We then generalize this integral geometric construction to higher dimensions and in particular demonstrate how it works in bulk space of homogeneity and isotropy.

Manifestations of topological band crossings in bulk entanglement spectrum: An analytical study for integer quantum Hall states

We consider integer quantum Hall states and calculate bulk entanglement spectrum by formulating the correlation matrix in guiding center representation. Our analytical approach is based on the projection operator with redefining the inner product of states in Hilbert space to take care of the restriction imposed by the (rectangle-tiled) checkerboard partition. The resultant correlation matrix contains the coupling constants between states of different guiding centers parameterized by magnetic length and the period of partition. We find various band-crossings by tuning the flux $Φ$ threading each chekerborad pixel and by changing filling factor $ν$. When $ν=1$ and $Φ=2π$, or $ν=2$ and $Φ=π$, one Dirac band crossing is found. For $ν=1$ and $Φ=π$, the band crossings are in the form of nodal line, enclosing the Brillouin zone. As for $ν=2$ and $Φ=2π$, the doubled Dirac point, or the quadratic point, is seen. Besides, we infer that the quadratic point is protected by C$_4$ symmetry of the checkerboard partition since it evolves into two separate Dirac points when the symmetry is lowered to C$_2$. In addition, we also identify the emerging symmetries responsible for the symmetric bulk entanglement spectra, which are absent in the underlying quantum Hall states.

OPE of the stress tensors and surface operators

We demonstrate that the divergent terms in the OPE of a stress tensor and a surface operator of general shape cannot be constructed only from local geometric data depending only on the shape of the surface. We verify this holographically at d=3 for Wilson line operators or equivalently the twist operator corresponding to computing the entanglement entropy using the Ryu-Takayanagi formula. We discuss possible implications of this result.

Decoherence Patterns of Topological Qubits from Majorana Modes

We investigate the decoherence patterns of topological qubits in contact with the environment by a novel way of deriving the open system dynamics other than the Feynman-Vernon. Each topological qubit is made of two Majorana modes of a 1D Kitaev's chain. These two Majorana modes interact with the environment in an incoherent way which yields peculiar decoherence patterns of the topological qubit. More specifically, we consider the open system dynamics of the topological qubits which are weakly coupled to the fermionic/bosonic Ohmic-like environments. We find atypical patterns of quantum decoherence. In contrast to the cases of non-topological qubits for which they always decohere completely in all Ohmic-like environments, the topological qubits decohere completely in the Ohmic and sub-Ohmic environments but not in the super-Ohmic ones. Moreover, we find that the fermion parities of the topological qubits though cannot prevent the qubit states from decoherence in the sub-Ohmic environments, can prevent from thermalization turning into Gibbs state. We also study the cases in which each Majorana mode can couple to different Ohmic-like environments and the time dependence of concurrence for two topological qubits.

Quantum Decoherence with Holography

Quantum decoherence is the loss of a system's purity due to its interaction with the surrounding environment. Via the AdS/CFT correspondence, we study how a system decoheres when its environment is a strongly-coupled theory. In the Feynman-Vernon formalism, we compute the influence functional holographically by relating it to the generating function of Schwinger-Keldysh propagators and thereby obtain the dynamics of the system's density matrix. We present two exactly solvable examples: (1) a straight string in a BTZ black hole and (2) a scalar probe in AdS$_5$. We prepare an initial state that mimics Schrödinger's cat and identify different stages of its decoherence process using the time-scaling behaviors of Rényi entropy. We also relate decoherence to local quantum quenches, and by comparing the time evolution behaviors of the Wigner function and Rényi entropy we demonstrate that the relaxation of local quantum excitations leads to the collapse of its wave-function.

Modular Properties of 3D Higher Spin Theory

In the three-dimensional sl(N) Chern-Simons higher-spin theory, we prove that the conical surplus and the black hole solution are related by the S-transformation of the modulus of the boundary torus. Then applying the modular group on a given conical surplus solution, we generate a 'SL(2,Z)' family of smooth constant solutions. We then show how these solutions are mapped into one another by coordinate transformations that act non-trivially on the homology of the boundary torus. After deriving a thermodynamics that applies to all the solutions in the 'SL(2,Z)' family, we compute their entropies and free energies, and determine how the latter transform under the modular transformations. Summing over all the modular images of the conical surplus, we write down a (tree-level) modular invariant partition function.

Refined Holographic Entanglement Entropy for the AdS Solitons and AdS black Holes

We consider the refinement of the holographic entanglement entropy for the holographic dual theories to the AdS solitons and AdS black holes, including the corrected ones by the Gauss-Bonnet term. The refinement is obtained by extracting the UV-independent piece of the holographic entanglement entropy, the so-called renormalized entanglement entropy which is independent of the choices of UV cutoff. Our main results are (i) the renormalized entanglement entropies of the AdS$_{d+1}$ soliton for $d=4,5$ are neither monotonically decreasing along the RG flow nor positive definite, especially around the deconfinement/confinement phase transition; (ii) there is no topological entanglement entropy for AdS$_5$ soliton even with Gauss-Bonnet correction; (iii) for the AdS black holes, the renormalized entanglement entropy obeys an expected volume law at IR regime, and the transition between UV and IR regimes is a smooth crossover even with Gauss-Bonnet correction; (iv) based on AdS/MERA conjecture, we postulate that the IR fixed-point state for the non-extremal AdS soliton is a trivial product state.

Symmetry Protected Quantum State Renormalization

Symmetry protected topological (SPT) phases with gapless edge excitations have been shown to exist in principle in strongly interacting bosonic/fermionic systems and it is highly desirable to find practical systems to realize such phases through numerical calculation. A central question to be addressed is how to determine the SPT order in the system given the numerical simulation result while no local order parameter can be measured to distinguish the phases from a trivial one. In the tensor network approach to simulate strongly interacting systems, the quantum state renormalization algorithm has been demonstrated to be effective in identifying the intrinsic topological orders. Here we show that a modified algorithm can identify SPT orders by extracting the fixed point entanglement pattern in the ground state wave function which is essential for the existence of SPT order. The key to this approach is to add symmetry protection to the quantum state renormalization process and we demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm with the example of AKLT states in both 1D and 2D.

Testing Information Causality for General Quantum Communication Protocols

Information causality was proposed as a physical principle to put upper bound on the accessible information gain in a physical bi-partite communication scheme. Intuitively, the information gain cannot be larger than the amount of classical communication to avoid violation of causality. Moreover, it was shown that this bound is consistent with the Tsirelson bound for the binary quantum systems. In this paper, we test the information causality for the more general (non-binary) quantum communication schemes. In order to apply the semi-definite programming method to find the maximal information gain, we only consider the schemes in which the information gain is monotonically related to the Bell-type functions, i.e., the generalization of CHSH functions for Bell inequalities in a binary schemes. We determine these Bell-type functions by using the signal decay theorem. Our results support the proposal of information causality. We also find the maximal information gain by numerical brute-force method for the most general 2-level and 2-setting quantum communication schemes. Our results show that boundary for the information causality bound does not agree with the one for the Tsirelson bound.

Cosmological constant, inflation and no-cloning theorem

From the viewpoint of no-cloning theorem we postulate a relation between the current accelerated expansion of our universe and the inflationary expansion in the very early universe. It implies that the fate of our universe should be in a state with accelerated expansion. Quantitatively we find that the no-cloning theorem leads to a lower bound on the cosmological constant which is compatible with observations.

Majorana Zero-modes and Topological Phases of Multi-flavored Jackiw-Rebbi model

Motivated by the recent Kitaev's K-theory analysis of topological insulators and superconductors, we adopt the same framework to study the topological phase structure of Jackiw-Rebbi model in 3+1 dimensions. According to the K-theory analysis based on the properties of the charge conjugation and time reversal symmetries, we classify the topological phases of the model. In particular, we find that there exist $\mathbf{Z}$ Majorana zero-modes hosted by the hedgehogs/t'Hooft-Polyakov monopoles, if the model has a $T^2=1$ time reversal symmetry. Guided by the K-theory results, we then explicitly show that a single Majorana zero mode solution exists for the SU(2) doublet fermions in some co-dimensional one planes of the mass parameter space. It turns out we can see the existence of none or a single zero mode when the fermion doublet is only two. We then take a step further to consider four-fermion case and find there can be zero, one or two normalizable zero mode in some particular choices of mass matrices. Our results also indicate that a single normalizable Majorana zero mode can be compatible with the cancellation of SU(2) Witten anomaly.

Double Field Theory for Double D-branes

We consider Hull's doubled formalism for open strings on D-branes in flat space and construct the corresponding effective double field theory. We show that the worldsheet boundary conditions of the doubled formalism describe in a unified way a T-dual pair of D-branes, which we call double D-branes. We evaluate the one-loop beta function for the boundary gauge coupling and then obtain the effective field theory for the double D-branes. The effective field theory is described by a DBI action of double fields. The T-duality covariant form of this DBI action is thus a kind of "master" action, which describes all the double D-brane configurations related by T-duality transformations. We discuss a number of aspects of this effective theory.

Holographic Multi-Band Superconductor

We propose a gravity dual for the holographic superconductor with multi-band carriers. Moreover, the currents of these carriers are unified under a global flavored SO(3) symmetry, which is dual to the bulk SO(3) gauge symmetry. We study the phase diagram of our model, and find it qualitatively agrees with the one for the realistic 2-band superconductor, such as $MgB_2$. We also identify the bulk field dual to the electromagnetic $U(1)_{EM}$ current, which should be invariant under the global flavored SO(3) rotation. We then evaluate the corresponding holographic conductivity and find the expected mean field like behaviors.

Information Causality and Noisy Computations

We reformulate the information causality in a more general framework by adopting the results of signal propagation and computation in a noisy circuit. In our framework, the information causality leads to a broad class of Tsirelson inequalities. This fact allows us to subject information causality to experimental scrutiny. A no-go theorem for reliable nonlocal computation is also derived. Information causality prevents any physical circuit from performing reliable computations.

Topological Order and Degenerate Singular Value Spectrum in Two-Dimensional Dimerized Quantum Heisenberg Model

We study the connection between topological order and degeneracy of the singular value spectrum by explicitly solving the two-dimensional dimerized quantum Heisenberg model in the form of tensor product state ansatz. Based on the ground state solution, we find non-zero topological entanglement entropy at the frustrated regime. It indicates a possible topological phase. Furthermore, we find that the singular value spectrum associated with each link in tensor product state is doubly degenerate only in this phase. Degeneracy of the singular value spectrum is robust against various types of perturbations, in accordance with our expectation for topological order. Our results support the connection among topological order, long range entanglement and the dominant degenerate singular values. In the context of tensor product state ansatz, the numerical evaluation of singular value spectrum costs far less computation power than the one for topological entanglement entropy. Our results provide a more viable way to numerically identify the topological order for the generic frustrated systems.

We briefly comment on how this breathing vacuum bubble can affect the analysis of the string theory landscape.

Dynamical Instability of Holographic QCD at Finite Density

In this paper we study the dynamical instability of Sakai-Sugimoto's holographic QCD model at finite baryon density. In this model, the baryon density, represented by the smeared instanton on the worldvolume of the probe D8-\overline{D8} mesonic brane, sources the worldvolume electric field, and through the Chern-Simons term it will induces the instability to form a chiral helical wave. This is similar to Deryagin-Grigoriev-Rubakov instability to form the chiral density wave for large N_c QCD at finite density. Our results show that this kind of instability occurs for sufficiently high baryon number densities. The phase diagram of holographic QCD will thus be changed from the one which is based only on thermodynamics. This holographic approach provides an effective way to study the phases of QCD at finite density, where the conventional perturbative QCD and lattice simulation fail.

Holographic Anyons in the ABJM Theory

We consider the holographic anyons in the ABJM theory from three different aspects of AdS/CFT correspondence. First, we identify the holographic anyons by using the field equations of supergravity, including the Chern-Simons terms of the probe branes. We find that the composite of Dp-branes wrapped over CP3 with the worldvolume magnetic fields can be the anyons. Next, we discuss the possible candidates of the dual anyonic operators on the CFT side, and find the agreement of their anyonic phases with the supergravity analysis. Finally, we try to construct the brane profile for the holographic anyons by solving the equations of motion and Killing spinor equations for the embedding profile of the wrapped branes. As a by product, we find a BPS spiky brane for the dual baryons in the ABJM theory.

Unruh Effect and Holography

We study the Unruh effect on the dynamics of quarks and mesons in the context of AdS$_5$/CFT$_4$ correspondence. We adopt an AdS$_5$ metric with the boundary Rindler horizon extending into a bulk Rindler-like horizon, which yields the thermodynamics with Unruh temperature verified by computing the boundary stress tensor. We then embed in it a probe fundamental string and a $D7$ brane in such a way that they become the dual of an accelerated quark and a meson in Minkowski space, respectively. Using the standard procedure of holographic renormalization, we calculate the chiral condensate, and also the spectral functions for both the accelerated quark and meson. Especially, we extract the corresponding strength of random force of the Langevin dynamics and observe that it can characterize the phase transition of meson melting. This result raises an issue toward a formulation of complementarity principle for the Rindler horizon. We find most of the dynamical features are qualitatively similar to the ones in the thermal bath dual to the AdS black hole background, though they could be quite different quantitatively.

Multipartite Entanglement Measures and Quantum Criticality from Matrix and Tensor Product States

We compute the multipartite entanglement measures such as the global entanglement of various one- and two-dimensional quantum systems to probe the quantum criticality based on the matrix and tensor product states (MPSs/TPSs). We use infinite time-evolving block decimation (iTEBD) method to find the ground states numerically in the form of MPSs/TPSs, and then evaluate their entanglement measures by the method of tensor renormalization group (TRG). We find these entanglement measures can characterize the quantum phase transitions by their derivative discontinuity right at the critical points in all models considered here. We also comment on the scaling behaviors of the entanglement measures by the ideas of quantum state renormalization group transformations.

Non-relativistic Holography and Singular Black Hole

We provide a framework for non-relativistic holography so that a covariant action principle ensuring the Galilean symmetry for dual conformal field theory is given. This framework is based on the Bargmann lift of the Newton-Cartan gravity to the one-dimensional higher Einstein gravity, or reversely, the null-like Kaluza-Klein reduction. We reproduce the previous zero temperature results, and our framework provides a natural explanation about why the holography is co-dimension 2. We then construct the black hole solution dual to the thermal CFT, and find the horizon is curvature singular. However, we are able to derive the sensible thermodynamics for the dual non-relativistic CFT with correct thermodynamical relations. Besides, our construction admits a null Killing vector in the bulk such that the Galilean symmetry is preserved under the holographic RG flow. Finally, we evaluate the viscosity and find it zero if we neglect the back reaction of the singular horizon, otherwise, it could be nonzero.

Quantum Secret Sharing with Multi-level Mutually (Un-)Biased Bases

We construct general schemes for multi-partite quantum secret sharing using multi-level systems, and find that the consistent conditions for valid measurements can be summarized in two simple algebraic conditions. The scheme using the very high dimensional mutually unbiased bases can in principle achieve perfect security against intercept-resend attack; and for the scheme using mutually biased bases, it reaches the optimal but non-perfect security at 4-level system. We also address the security issue against the general attacks in the context of our multi-level schemes. Especially, we propose new protocol to enhance both the efficiency and the security against the entanglement-assisted participant's attack by incorporating quantum-key-distribution and measurement-basis-encrypted schemes so that its security is as robust as quantum-key-distribution.

One-Loop Effect of Null-Like Cosmology's Holographic Dual Super-Yang-Mills

We calculate the 1-loop effect in super-Yang-Mills which preserves 1/4-supersymmetries and is holographically dual to the null-like cosmology with a big-bang singularity. Though the bosonic and fermionic spectra do not agree precisely, we do obtain vanishing 1-loop vacuum energy for generic warped plane-wave type backgrounds with a big-bang singularity. Moreover, we find that the cosmological "constant" contributed either by bosons or fermions is time-dependent. The issues about the particle production of some background and about the UV structure are also commented. We argue that the effective higher derivative interactions are suppressed as long as the Fourier transform of the time-dependent coupling is UV-finite. Our result holds for scalar configurations that are BPS but with arbitrary time-dependence. This suggests the existence of non-renormalization theorem for such a new class of time-dependent theories. Altogether, it implies that such a super-Yang-Mills is scale-invariant, and that its dual bulk quantum gravity might behave regularly near the big bang.

Colliding Plane Waves in String Theory

We construct colliding plane wave solutions in higher dimensional gravity theory with dilaton and higher form flux, which appears naturally in the low energy theory of string theory. Especially, the role of the junction condition in constructing the solutions is emphasized. Our results not only include the previously known CPW solutions, but also provide a wide class of new solutions that is not known in the literature before. We find that late time curvature singularity is always developed for the solutions we obtained in this paper. This supports the generalized version of Tipler's theorem in higher dimensional supergravity.

We find that for small string coupling, the tachyonic matter remains in the late time, but it will completely evaporate away over a short time of few string scales if the string coupling is huge. Comment on the implication of our results to the g-theorem of boundary conformal field theory is given.

Star Spectroscopy in the Constant B field Background

In this paper we calculate the spectrum of Neumann matrix with zero modes in the presence of the constant B field in Witten's cubic string field theory. We find both the continuous spectrum inside $[{-1\over3}, 0)$ and the constraint on the existence of the discrete spectrum. For generic $θ$, -1/3 is not in the discrete spectrum but in the continuous spectrum. For each eigenvalue in the continuous spectrum there are four twist-definite degenerate eigenvector except for -1/3 at which the degeneracy is two. However, for each twist-definite eigenvector the twist parity is opposite among the two spacetime components. Based upon the result at -1/3 we prove that the ratio of brane tension to be one as expected. Furthermore, we discuss the factorization of star algebra in the presence of B field under zero-slope limit and comment on the implications of our results to the recent proposed map of Witten's star to Moyal's star.

Tachyon Condensation of D2/D4-Brane System in Noncommutative Gauge Theory

In this paper we construct the 2+1 effective theory of the light states in D2/D4-brane system in the context of noncommutative Yang-Mills theory. This effective theory is noncommutative and tachyonic, however, it is not taking the form of an Abelian Higgs model as naively expected. We solve the classical solutions of the effective theory which are nicely corresponding to different states during the tachyon condensation process of the dissolution of D2-brane into D4-brane. We also find that if the expected stable self-dual D0/D4 configuration as the unit-winding vortex exists, it would be highly calibrated in the effective theory and be out of the reach of the analytic solutions.
