Blow-up solutions for a system of Schrödinger equations with general quadratic-type nonlinearities in dimensions five and six

In this work, we show the existence of ground state solutions for an $l$-component system of non-linear Schrödinger equations with quadratic-type growth interactions in the energy-critical case. They are obtained analyzing a critical Sobolev-type inequality and using the concentration-compactness method. As an application, we prove the existence of blow-up solutions of the system without the mass-resonance condition in dimension six (and five), when the initial data is radial.

Nonlinear Stability of Periodic-Wave Solutions for Systems of Dispersive Equations

We prove the orbital stability of periodic traveling-wave solutions for systems of dispersive equations with coupled nonlinear terms. Our method is basically developed under two assumptions: one concerning the spectrum of the linearized operator around the traveling wave and another one concerning the existence of a conserved quantity with suitable properties. The method can be applied to several systems such as the Liu-Kubota-Ko system, the modified KdV system and a log-KdV type system.

Orbital stability of one-parameter periodic traveling waves for dispersive equations and applications

This paper establishes suficient conditions for the orbital stability of one-parameter spatially periodic traveling-wave solutions for one-dimensional dispersive equations. Our method of proof combines known techniques with some new ideas. As a consequence of our result, we give several applications for well known dispersive equations. Extension of the theory to regularized equations is also established.

Persistence properties for the dispersion generalized BO-ZK equation in weighted anisotropic Sobolev spaces

In this paper we study the initial-value problem associated with the dispersion generalized-Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, $$ u_{t}+D^{a+1}_x \partial_{x}u+u_{xyy}+uu_{x}=0, \qquad a\in(0,1). $$ More specifically, we study the persistence property of the solution in the weighted anisotropic Sobolev spaces $$ H^{(1+a)s,2s}(\R^{2})\cap L^{2}((x^{2r_1} +y^{2r_2})dxdy), $$ for appropriate $s$, $r_1$ and $r_2$. By establishing unique continuation properties we also show that our results are sharp with respect to the decay in the $x$-direction.

Solitary wave solutions and global well-posedness for a coupled system of gKdV equations

In this work we consider the initial-value problem associated with a coupled system of generalized Korteweg-de Vries equations. We present a relationship between the best constant for a Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequality and a criterion for the existence of global solutions in the energy space. We prove that such a constant is directly related to the existence problem of solitary-wave solutions with minimal mass, the so called ground state solutions. To guarantee the existence of ground states we use a variational method.

Scattering for a 3D coupled nonlinear Schrödinger system

We consider the three-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrödinger system \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} i\partial_tu+Δu+(|u|^2+β|v|^2)u=0,\\ i\partial_tv+Δv+(|v|^2+β|u|^2)v=0. \end{cases} \end{equation*} Let $(P,Q)$ be any ground state solution of the above Schrödinger system. We show that for any initial data $(u_0,v_0)$ in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^3)\times H^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$ satisfying $M(u_0,v_0)A(u_0,v_0)<M(P,Q)A(P,Q)$ and $M(u_0,v_0)E(u_0,v_0)<M(P,Q)E(P,Q)$, where $M(u,v)$ and $E(u,v)$ are the mass and energy (invariant quantities) associated to the system, the corresponding solution is global in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^3)\times H^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and scatters. Our approach is in the same spirit of Duyckaerts-Holmer-Roudenko, where the authors considered the 3D cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

Sufficient Conditions for Orbital Stability of Periodic Traveling Waves

The present paper deals with sufficient conditions for orbital stability of periodic waves of a general class of evolution equations supporting nonlinear dispersive waves. Our method can be seen as an extension to spatially periodic waves of the theory of solitary waves recently developed in \cite{st}. Firstly, our main result do not depend on the parametrization of the periodic wave itself. Secondly, motived by the well known orbital stability criterion for solitary waves, we show that the same criterion holds for periodic waves. In addition, we show that the positiveness of the principal entries of the Hessian matrix related to the "energy surface function" are also sufficient to obtain the stability. Consequently, we can establish the orbital stability of periodic waves for several nonlinear dispersive models. We believe our method can be applied in a wide class of evolution equations; in particular it can be extended to regularized dispersive wave equations.

The IVP for the Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in low regularity Sobolev spaces

In this paper we study the initial-value problem associated with the Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. Such equation appears as a two-dimensional generalization of the Benjamin-Ono equation when transverse effects are included via weak dispersion of Zakharov-Kuznetsov type. We prove that the initial-value problem is locally well-posed in the usual $L^2(\R^2)$-based Sobolev spaces $H^{s}(\R^2)$, $s>11/8$, and in some weighted Sobolev spaces. To obtain our results, most of the arguments are accomplished taking into account the ones for the Benjamin-Ono equation.

Orbital Stability of Periodic Waves for the Log-KdV Equation

In this paper we establish the orbital stability of periodic waves related to the logarithmic Korteweg-de Vries equation. Our motivation is inspired in the recent work \cite{carles}, in which the authors established the well-posedness and the linear stability of Gaussian solitary waves. By using the approach put forward recently in \cite{natali1} to construct a smooth branch of periodic waves as well as to get the spectral properties of the associated linearized operator, we apply the abstract theories in \cite{grillakis1} and \cite{weinstein1} to deduce the orbital stability of the periodic traveling waves in the energy space.

Stability and Decay properties of Solitary wave solutions for the generalized BO-ZK equation

Studied here is the generalized Benjamin-Ono--Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation $u_t+u^pu_x+α\mathscr{H}u_{xx}+\varepsilon u_{xyy}=0, \quad (x,y)\in\rr^2\!,\;\;t\in \rr^+\!$ in two space dimensions. Here, $\mathscr{H}$ is the Hilbert transform and subscripts denote partial differentiation. We classify when equation (1) possesses solitary-wave solutions in terms of the signs of the constants $α$ and $\varepsilon$ appearing in the dispersive terms and the strength of the nonlinearity. Regularity and decay properties of these solitary wave are determined and their stability is studied.

The IVP for the Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in weighted Sobolev spaces

In this paper we study the initial-value problem associated with the Benjamin-Ono-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. We prove that the IVP for such equation is locally well-posed in the usual Sobolev spaces $H^{s}(\R^2),$ $s>2$, and in the anisotropic spaces $H^{s_1,s_2}(\R^2)$, $s_2>2$, $s_1\geq s_2$. We also study the persistence properties of the solution and local well-posedness in the weighted Sobolev class $$ \mathcal{Z}_{s,r}=H^{s}(\R^{2})\cap L^{2}((1+x^{2} +y^{2})^rdxdy), $$ where $s>2$, $r\geq 0$, and $s\geq 2r$. Unique continuation properties of the solution are also established. These continuation principles show that our persistence properties are sharp. Most of our arguments are accomplished taking into account that ones for the Benjamin-Ono equation.

On well-posedness and wave operator for the gKdV equation

We consider the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation $\partial_t u+\partial_x^3u+μ\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k>4$ is an integer number and $μ=\pm1$. We give an alternative proof of the Kenig, Ponce, and Vega result in \cite{kpv1}, which asserts local and global well-posedness in $\dot{H}^{s_k}(\R)$, with $s_k=(k-4)/2k$. A blow-up alternative in suitable Strichatz-type spaces is also established. The main tool is a new linear estimate. As a consequence, we also construct a wave operator in the critical space $\dot{H}^{s_k}(\R)$, extending the results of Côte [2].

A note on the 2D generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation: local, global, and scattering results

We consider the generalized two-dimensional Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation $u_t+\partial_x Δu+\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k\geq3$ is an integer number. For $k\geq8$ we prove local well-posedness in the $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, where $s$ is greater than the critical scaling index $s_k=1-2/k$. For $k\geq 3$ we also establish a sharp criteria to obtain global $H^1(\R^2)$ solutions. A nonlinear scattering result in $H^1(\R^2)$ is also established assuming the initial data is small and belongs to a suitable Lebesgue space.

Local and global well-posedness for the 2D generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

This paper addresses well-posedness issues for the initial value problem (IVP) associated with the generalized Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, namely, \{equation*} \quad \left\{\{array}{lll} {\displaystyle u_t+\partial_x Δu+u^ku_x = 0,}\qquad (x,y) \in \mathbb{R}^2, \,\,\,\, t>0, {\displaystyle u(x,y,0)=u_0(x,y)}. \{array} \right. \{equation*} For $2\leq k \leq 7$, the IVP above is shown to be locally well-posed for data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s>3/4$. For $k\geq8$, local well-posedness is shown to hold for data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s>s_k$, where $s_k=1-3/(2k-4)$. Furthermore, for $k\geq3$, if $u_0\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)$ and satisfies $\|u_0\|_{H^1}\ll1$, then the solution is shown to be global in $H^1(\mathbb{R}^2)$. For $k=2$, if $u_0\in H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$, $s>53/63$, and satisfies $\|u_0\|_{L^2}<\sqrt3 \, \|ϕ\|_{L^2}$, where $ϕ$ is the corresponding ground state solution, then the solution is shown to be global in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^2)$.

The supercritical generalized KdV equation: Global well-posedness in the energy space and below

We consider the generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation $\partial_t u+\partial_x^3u+μ\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k\geq5$ is an integer number and $μ=\pm1$. In the focusing case ($μ=1$), we show that if the initial data $u_0$ belongs to $H^1(\R)$ and satisfies $E(u_0)^{s_k} M(u_0)^{1-s_k} < E(Q)^{s_k} M(Q)^{1-s_k}$, $E(u_0)\geq0$, and $\|\partial_x u_0\|_{L^2}^{s_k}\|u_0\|_{L^2}^{1-s_k} < \|\partial_x Q\|_{L^2}^{s_k}\|Q\|_{L^2}^{1-s_k}$, where $M(u)$ and $E(u)$ are the mass and energy, then the corresponding solution is global in $H^1(\R)$. Here, $s_k=\frac{(k-4)}{2k}$ and $Q$ is the ground state solution corresponding to the gKdV equation. In the defocusing case ($μ=-1$), if $k$ is even, we prove that the Cauchy problem is globally well-posed in the Sobolev spaces $H^s(\mathbb{R})$, $s>\frac{4(k-1)}{5k}$.
