Spin-orbit torques and magnetization switching in Gd/Fe multilayers generated by current injection in NiCu alloys

Light transition metals have recently emerged as a sustainable material class for efficient spin-charge interconversion. We report measurements of current-induced spin-orbit torques generated by Ni$_{1-x}$Cu$_{x}$ alloys in perpendicularly magnetized ferrimagnetic Gd/Fe multilayers. We show that the spin-orbit torque efficiency of Ni$_{1-x}$Cu$_{x}$ increases with the Ni/Cu atomic ratio, reaching values comparable to those of Pt for Ni$_{55}$Cu$_{45}$. Furthermore, we demonstrate magnetization switching of a 20-nm-thick Gd/Fe multilayer with a threshold current that decreases with increasing Ni concentration, similar to the spin-orbit torque efficiency. Our findings show that Ni$_{1-x}$Cu$_{x}$$-$based magnetic heterostructures allow for efficient control of the magnetization by electric currents.

Connectivity and Purity for logarithmic motives

The goal of this paper is to extend the work of Voevodsky and Morel on the homotopy $t$-structure on the category of motivic complexes to the context of motives for logarithmic schemes. To do so, we prove an analogue of Morel's connectivity theorem and show a purity statement for $(\mathbf{P}^1, \infty)$-local complexes of sheaves with log transfers. The homotopy $t$-structure on $\mathbf{logDM}^{\textrm{eff}}(k)$ is proved to be compatible with Voevodsky's $t$-structure i.e. we show that the comparison functor $R^{\overline{\square}}ω^*\colon \mathbf{DM}^{\textrm{eff}}(k)\to \mathbf{logDM}^{\textrm{eff}}(k)$ is $t$-exact. The heart of the homotopy $t$-structure on $\mathbf{logDM}^{\textrm{eff}}(k)$ is the Grothendieck abelian category of strictly cube-invariant sheaves with log transfers: we use it to build a new version of the category of reciprocity sheaves in the style of Kahn--Saito--Yamazaki and Rülling.

On the cohomology of reciprocity sheaves

In this paper we show the existence of an action of Chow correspondences on the cohomology of reciprocity sheaves. In order to do so, we prove a number of structural results, such as a projective bundle formula, a blow-up formula, a Gysin sequence, and the existence of proper pushforward. In this way we recover and generalize analogous statements for the cohomology of Hodge sheaves and Hodge-Witt sheaves. We give several applications of the general theory to problems which have been classically studied. Among these applications, we construct new birational invariants of smooth projective varieties and obstructions to the existence of zero-cycles of degree one from the cohomology of reciprocity sheaves.

Zero-cycle groups on algebraic varieties

We compare various groups of 0-cycles on quasi-projective varieties over a field. As applications, we show that for certain singular projective varieties, the Levine-Weibel Chow group of 0-cycles coincides with the corresponding Friedlander-Voevodsky motivic cohomology. We also show that over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, the Chow group of 0-cycles with modulus on a smooth projective variety with respect to a reduced divisor coincides with the Suslin homology of the complement of the divisor. We prove several generalizations of the finiteness theorem of Saito and Sato for the Chow group of 0-cycles over $p$-adic fields. We also use these results to deduce a torsion theorem for Suslin homology which extends a result of Bloch to open varieties.

Semi-purity for cycles with modulus

In this paper, we prove a form of purity property for the $(\mathbb{P}^1, \infty)$-invariant replacement $h_0^{\overline{\square}}(\mathfrak{X})$ of the Yoneda object $\mathbb{Z}_{\rm tr} (\mathfrak{X})$ for a modulus pair $\mathfrak{X}=(\overline{X}, X_\infty)$ over a field $k$, consisting of a smooth projective $k$-scheme and an effective Cartier divisor on it. As application, we prove the analogue in the modulus setting of Voevodsky's fundamental theorem on the homotopy invariance of the cohomology of homotopy invariant sheaves with transfers, based on a main result of "Purity of reciprocity sheaves" arXiv:1704.02442. This plays an essential role in the development of the theory of motives with modulus, and among other things implies the existence of a homotopy $t$-structure on the category $\mathbf{MDM}^{\rm eff}(k)$ of Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki.

Torsion and divisibility for reciprocity sheaves and 0-cycles with modulus

The notion of modulus is a striking feature of Rosenlicht-Serre's theory of generalized Jacobian varieties of curves. It was carried over to algebraic cycles on general varieties by Bloch-Esnault, Park, Rülling, Krishna-Levine. Recently, Kerz-Saito introduced a notion of Chow group of $0$-cycles with modulus in connection with geometric class field theory with wild ramification for varieties over finite fields. We study the non-homotopy invariant part of the Chow group of $0$-cycles with modulus and show their torsion and divisibility properties. Modulus is being brought to sheaf theory by Kahn-Saito-Yamazaki in their attempt to construct a generalization of Voevodsky-Suslin-Friedlander's theory of homotopy invariant presheaves with transfers. We prove parallel results about torsion and divisibility properties for them.
