Kato's Ramification filtration via de Rham-Witt complex and applications

Given an $F$-finite regular scheme $X$ of positive characteristic and a simple normal crossing divisor $E$ on $X$, we introduce a filtration on the de Rham-Witt complex $W_mΩ^\bullet_{X\setminus E}$. When $X$ is the spectrum of a henselian discrete valuation ring $A$ with quotient field $K$, this extends the classical filtration on $W_m(K)$ due to Brylinski. We show that Kato's ramification filtration on $H^q_\et(X \setminus E, {\Q}/{\Z}(q-1))$ for $q \ge 1$ admits an explicit description in terms of the above filtration of the de Rham-Witt complex of $X \setminus E$. When $q =1$, this specializes to the results of Kato and Kerz-Saito. As applications, we prove refinements of the duality theorem of Jannsen-Saito-Zhao for smooth projective schemes over finite fields and the duality theorem of Zhao for semi-stable schemes over henselian discrete valuation rings of positive characteristic with finiteresidue fields. We also prove a modulus version of the duality theorem of Ekedahl. As another application, we prove Lefschetz theorems for Kato's ramification filtrations for smooth projective varieties over $F$-finite fields. This extends a result of Kerz-Saito for $H^1$ to higher cohomology. Similar results are proven for the Brauer group.

Tame class field theory over local fields

For a quasi-projective scheme $X$ admitting a smooth compactification over a local field of residue characteristic $p > 0$, we construct a continuous reciprocity homomorphism from a tame class group to the abelian tame etale fundamental group of $X$. We describe the prime-to-$p$ parts of its kernel and cokernel. This generalizes the higher dimensional unramified class field theory over local fields by Jannsen-Saito and Forre. We also prove a finiteness theorem for the geometric part of the abelian tame etale fundamental group, generalizing the results of Grothendieck and Yoshida for the unramified fundamental group.

A decomposition theorem for 0-cycles and applications

We prove a decomposition theorem for the cohomological Chow group of 0-cycles on the double of a quasi-projective $R_1$-scheme over a field along a closed subscheme, in terms of the Chow groups, with and without modulus, of the scheme. This yields a significant generalization of the decomposition theorem of Binda-Krishna. As applications, we prove a moving lemma for Chow groups with modulus and an analogue of Bloch's formula for 0-cycles with modulus on singular surfaces. The latter extends a previous result of Binda-Krishna-Saito.

Reciprocity for Kato-Saito idele class group with modulus

We introduce an etale fundamental group with modulus and construct a reciprocity homomorphism from the Kato-Saito idele class group with modulus to this fundamental group. This is the K-theoretic analogue of the reciprocity for the cycle-theoretic idele class group with modulus due to Kerz-Saito, and plays a central role in showing the isomorphism between the two idele class groups. It also provides a new interpretation of the already known etale fundamental group with modulus due to Deligne and Laumon.

Zero-cycle groups on algebraic varieties

We compare various groups of 0-cycles on quasi-projective varieties over a field. As applications, we show that for certain singular projective varieties, the Levine-Weibel Chow group of 0-cycles coincides with the corresponding Friedlander-Voevodsky motivic cohomology. We also show that over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, the Chow group of 0-cycles with modulus on a smooth projective variety with respect to a reduced divisor coincides with the Suslin homology of the complement of the divisor. We prove several generalizations of the finiteness theorem of Saito and Sato for the Chow group of 0-cycles over $p$-adic fields. We also use these results to deduce a torsion theorem for Suslin homology which extends a result of Bloch to open varieties.

preprint2022arXiv

Zero-cycles on normal varieties

We prove an extension of the Kato-Saito class field theory for smooth projective schemes over a finite field to schemes with singularities. As an application, we obtain Bloch's formula for the Chow groups of 0-cycles on such schemes. We identify the Chow group of 0-cycles on a normal projective scheme over an algebraically closed field to the Suslin homology of its regular locus. Our final result is a Roitman torsion theorem for smooth quasi-projective schemes over algebraically closed fields. This completes the missing $p$-torsion part in the torsion theorem of Spiess and Szamuely.

A moving lemma for relative $0$-cycles

We prove a moving lemma for the additive and ordinary higher Chow groups of relative $0$-cycles of regular semi-local $k$-schemes essentially of finite type over an infinite perfect field. From this, we show that the cycle classes can be represented by cycles that possess certain finiteness, surjectivity, and smoothness properties. It plays a key role in showing that the crystalline cohomology of smooth varieties can be expressed in terms of algebraic cycles.

A module structure and a vanishing theorem for cycles with modulus

We show that the higher Chow groups with modulus of Binda-Kerz-Saito for a smooth quasi-projective scheme $X$ is a module over the Chow ring of $X$. From this, we deduce certain pull-backs, the projective bundle formula, and the blow-up formula for higher Chow groups with modulus. We prove vanishing of $0$-cycles of higher Chow groups with modulus on various affine varieties of dimension at least two. This shows in particular that the multivariate analogue of Bloch-Esnault--Rülling computations of additive higher Chow groups of 0-cycles vanishes.

preprint2016arXiv

A moving lemma for cycles with very ample modulus

We prove a moving lemma for higher Chow groups with modulus, in the sense of Binda-Kerz-Saito, of projective schemes when the modulus is given by a very ample divisor. This provides one of the first cases of moving lemmas for cycles with modulus, not covered by the additive higher Chow groups. We apply this to prove a contravariant functoriality of higher Chow groups with modulus. We use our moving techniques to show that the higher Chow groups of a line bundle over a scheme, with the 0-section as the modulus, vanishes.

Analogues of Gersten's conjecture for singular schemes

We formulate analogues, for Noetherian local $\mathbb Q$-algebras which are not necessarily regular, of the injectivity part of Gersten's conjecture in algebraic $K$-theory, and prove them in various cases. Our results suggest that the algebraic $K$-theory of such a ring should be detected by combining the algebraic $K$-theory of both its regular locus and the infinitesimal thickenings of its singular locus.

Equivariant K-theory and Higher Chow Groups of Schemes

For a smooth quasi-projective scheme $X$ over a field $k$ with an action of a reductive group, we establish a spectral sequence connecting the equivariant and the ordinary higher Chow groups of $X$. For $X$ smooth and projective, we show that this spectral sequence degenerates, leading to an explicit relation between the equivariant and the ordinary higher Chow groups. We obtain several applications to algebraic $K$-theory. We show that for a reductive group $G$ acting on a smooth projective scheme $X$, the forgetful map $K^G_i(X) \to K_i(X)$ induces an isomorphism $K^G_i(X)/{I_G K^G_i(X)} \cong K_i(X)$ with rational coefficients. This generalizes a result of Graham to higher $K$-theory of such schemes. We prove an equivariant Riemann-Roch theorem, leading to a generalization of a result of Edidin and Graham to higher $K$-theory. Similar techniques are used to prove the equivariant Quillen-Lichtenbaum conjecture.

Equivariant vector bundles, their derived category and $K$-theory on affine schemes

Let $G$ be an affine group scheme over a noetherian commutative ring $R$. We show that every $G$-equivariant vector bundle on an affine toric scheme over $R$ with $G$-action is extended from $\Spec(R)$ for several cases of $R$ and $G$. We show that given two affine schemes with group scheme actions, an equivalence of the equivariant derived categories implies isomorphism of the equivariant $K$-theories as well as equivariant $K'$-theories.

0-cycles on singular schemes and class field theory

We show that the Chow group of 0-cycles on a singular projective scheme $X$ over a finite field describes the abelian extensions of its function field which are unramified over the regular locus of $X$. As a consequence, we obtain the Bloch-Quillen formula for the Chow group of 0-cycles on such schemes. We deduce simple proofs of results of Kerz-Saito for a class of surfaces without any assumption on ${\rm char}(k)$.

preprint2015arXiv

On 0-cycles with modulus

Given a smooth surface $X$ over a field and an effective Cartier divisor $D$, we provide an exact sequence connecting $CH_0(X,D)$ and the relative $K$-group $K_0(X,D)$. We use this exact sequence to answer a question of Kerz and Saito whenever $X$ is a resolution of singularities of a normal surface. This exact sequence is used to show that the localization sequence for ordinary Chow groups does not extend to Chow groups with modulus.

Motivic homotopy of group scheme actions

To smooth schemes equipped with a smooth affine group scheme action, we associate an equivariant motivic homotopy category. Underlying our construction is the choice of an `equivariant Nisnevich topology' induced by a complete, regular, and bounded $cd$-structure. We show equivariant $K$-theory of smooth schemes is represented in the equivariant motivic homotopy category. This is used to characterize equivariantly contractible smooth affine curves and equivariant vector bundles on such curves. Generalizations of the purity and blow-up theorems in motivic homotopy theory are shown for actions of finite cyclic groups.

Semi-topologization in motivic homotopy theory and applications

We study the semi-topologization functor of Friedlander-Walker from the perspective of motivic homotopy theory. We construct a triangulated endo-functor on the stable motivic homotopy category $\mathcal{SH}(\C)$, which we call \emph{homotopy semi-topologization}. As applications, we discuss the representability of several semi-topological cohomology theories in $\mathcal{SH}(\C)$, a construction of a semi-topological analogue of algebraic cobordism, and a construction of Atiyah-Hirzebruch type spectral sequences for this theory.

Algebraic cobordism theory attached to algebraic equivalence

Based on the algebraic cobordism theory of Levine and Morel, we develop a theory of algebraic cobordism modulo algebraic equivalence. We prove that this theory can reproduce Chow groups modulo algebraic equivalence and the semi-topological $K_0$-groups. We also show that with finite coefficients, this theory agrees with the algebraic cobordism theory. We compute our cobordism theory for some low dimensional varieties. The results on infinite generation of some Griffiths groups by Clemens and on smash-nilpotence by Voevodsky and Voisin are also lifted and reinterpreted in terms of this cobordism theory.

Higher K-theory of Toric stacks

In this paper, we develop several techniques for computing the higher G-theory and K-theory of quotient stacks. Our main results for computing these groups are in terms of spectral sequences. We show that these spectral sequences degenerate in the case of many toric stacks, thereby providing an efficient computation of their higher K-theory. We apply our main results to give explicit description for the higher K-theory for many smooth toric stacks. As another application, we describe the higher K-theory of toric stack bundles over smooth base schemes.

The motivic cobordism for group actions

For a linear algebraic group $G$ over a field $k$, we define an equivariant version of the Voevodsky's motivic cobordism $MGL$. We show that this is an oriented cohomology theory with localization sequence on the category of smooth $G$-schemes and there is a natural transformation from this functor to the functor of equivariant motivic cohomology. We give several applications. In particular, we use this equivariant motivic cobordism to study the cobordism ring of the classifying spaces and the cycle class maps from the algebraic to the singular cohomology of such spaces. This theory of motivic cobordism allows us to define the theory of motivic cobordism on the category of all smooth quotient stacks.

A cdh approach to zero-cycles on singular varieties

We study the Chow group of zero-cycles on singular varieties using the cdh topology. We define the cdh versions of the zero-cycles and albanese maps. We prove results comparing these groups for a singular variety with the similar groups on the resolution of singularities. We use these to prove some results about the known Chow group of zero-cycles on surfaces and threefolds and some cases of arbitrary dimension.

Cobordism of flag bundles

Let $G$ be a connected linear algebraic group over a field $k$ of characteristic zero. For a principal $G$-bundle $π: E \to X$ over a scheme $X$ of finite type over $k$ and a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$, we describe the rational algebraic cobordism and higher Chow groups of the flag bundle $E/P \to X$ in terms of the cobordism of $X$ and that of the classifying space of a maximal torus of $G$ contained in $P$. As a consequence, we also obtain the formula for the cobordism and higher Chow groups of the principal bundles over the scheme $X$. If $X$ is smooth, this describes the cobordism ring of these bundles in terms of the cobordism ring of $X$.

Equivariant Cobordism for Torus Actions

We study the equivariant cobordism theory of schemes for torus actions. We give the explicit relation between the equivariant and the ordinary cobordism of schemes with torus action. We deduce analogous results for action of arbitrary connected linear algebraic groups. We prove some structure theorems for the equivariant and ordinary cobordism of schemes with torus action and derive important consequences. We establish the localization theorems in this setting. These are used to describe the structure of the ordinary cobordism ring of certain smooth projective varieties.
