Lorentz-violating modifications to particle dynamics, thermodynamics and vacuum energy in bumblebee gravity

We investigate how spontaneous Lorentz symmetry breaking in bumblebee gravity modifies particle dynamics, thermodynamics, and vacuum energy around a static black hole background. Starting from the optical-mechanical correspondence, we derive a modified dispersion relation that encodes the influence of the Lorentz-violating parameter $λ$ on the propagation of massive and massless modes. We analyze the resulting optical properties, including the effective refractive index, group velocity, and energy-dependent time delay, and show how the non-asymptotically flat geometry reshapes signal propagation. From the same dispersion relation, we construct the interparticle potential for massive and massless excitations and evaluate the electron scattering cross section within the Born approximation, identifying characteristic Lorentz-violating corrections. We then develop a statistical-ensemble description based on the deformed energy-momentum relation and obtain analytic expressions for the thermodynamic observables of a massless bosonic gas. The pressure, mean energy, entropy, and heat capacity are examined in three representative regimes -- extremely close to the horizon, near the photon sphere, and in the asymptotic region -- where Lorentz violation systematically increase the magnitude of these quantities and leads to finite asymptotic plateaus. Finally, we analyze the vacuum state in the curved background and compute the regularized Casimir energy at zero and finite temperature.

Black String solutions in Rainbow Gravity

In this paper we study black string solutions under the consideration of rainbow gravity. We have analytically obtained the solution for four-dimensional black strings in terms of the functions $f(E/E_p)$ and $g(E/E_p)$ that sets the energy scale where the rainbow gravity becomes relevant. We have also obtained the Hawking temperature for the black string, from which we could see that the rainbow functions play the role of increasing or decreasing the Hawking temperature for a given horizon radius depending on the choice of such rainbow functions. We have computed the entropy, specific heat and free energy for the black string. The entropy and specific heat exhibit a rainbow dependence, while the free energy is not modified by the rainbow functions. Finally we have studied the effects of the rainbow gravity in the orbits of massive and massless particles around a black string. We could verify that neither massive nor massless particles exhibit stable orbits around a black string in the scenario of rainbow gravity, for any configuration of rainbow functions.

Brane inflation driven by an arctan potential: CMB constraints and Reheating

We investigate the early universe evolution in the context of brane inflation driven by a supergravity-inspired $\arctan$ potential. We performed a slow-roll and a semi-analytical reheating analyses and obtained constraints on the inflationary parameters in agreement with Planck 2018 data. We also employed a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis to perform a parameter estimation of the cosmological parameters, obtaining results in good agreement with the currently available cosmic microwave background and baryon acoustic oscillation data. This work establishes the general theoretical predictions of the $\arctan$ model, with the results of the statistical analysis corroborating its observational viability.

Generalized para-Bose states

In this paper, we construct integrals of motion in a para-Bose formulation for a general time-dependent quadratic Hamiltonian, which, in its turn, commutes with the reflection operator. In this context, we obtain generalizations for the squeezed vacuum states (SVS) and coherent states (CS) in terms of the Wigner parameter. Furthermore, we show that there is a completeness relation for the generalized SVS owing to the Wigner parameter. In the study of the probability transition, we found that the displacement parameter acts as a transition parameter by allowing access to odd states, while the Wigner parameter controls the dispersion of the distribution. We show that the Wigner parameter is quantized by imposing that the vacuum state has even parity. We apply the general results to the case of the time-independent para-Bose oscillator and find that the mean values of the coordinate and momentum have an oscillatory behavior similarly to the simple harmonic oscillator, while the standard deviation presents corrections in terms of the squeeze, displacement, and Wigner parameters.

LIV effects on the quantum stochastic motion in an acoustic FRW-geometry

It is well known in the literature that vacuum fluctuations can induce a random motion of particles which is sometimes called quantum Brownian motion or quantum stochastic motion. In this paper, we consider Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) in an acoustic spatially flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) geometry. In particular, we are looking for the LIV effects in the stochastic motion of scalar and massive test particles. This motion is induced by a massless quantized scalar field on this geometry, which in turn is derived from an Abelian Higgs model with LIV. Deviations in the velocity dispersion of the particles proportional to the LIV parameter are found.

Quasinormal modes and shadow of noncommutative black hole

In this paper we investigate quasinormal modes (QNM) for a scalar field around a noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole. We verify the effect of noncommutativity on quasinormal frequencies by applying two procedures widely used in the literature. The first is the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation up to sixth order. In the second case we use the continuous fraction method developed by Leaver. Besides, we also show that due to noncommutativity, the shadow radius is reduced when we increase the noncommutative parameter. In addition, we find that the shadow radius is nonzero even at the zero mass limit for finite noncommutative parameter.

The generalized uncertainty principle effect in acoustic black holes

We obtain an effective acoustic metric with quantum corrections that are provided by a minimum length implemented by the generalized Heisenberg uncertainty principle (GUP) in the Abelian Higgs model. The effective acoustic metric now depends on the contribution of scalar and vector potentials. We also explore the Hawking radiation and entropy by considering the effective canonical acoustic black hole and find that the modified Hawking temperature leads to logarithm corrections to the entropy. Finally, we investigate the dispersion relations of the model to establish the relationships among the deviations of the group velocity, frequency and temperature due to the GUP.

Brane inflation and the robustness of the Starobinsky inflationary model

The first inflationary model conceived was the one proposed by Starobinsky which includes an additional term quadratic in the Ricci-scalar R in the Einstein-Hilbert action. The model is now considered a target for several future cosmic microwave background experiments given its compatibility with current observational data. In this paper, we analyse the robustness of the Starobinsky inflation by inserting it into a generalized scenario based on a $β$-Starobinsky inflation potential, which is motivated through brane inflation. In the Einstein frame, the generalized model recovers the original model for $β=0$, whereas $\forall β\neq 0$ represents an extended class of models that admit a wider range of solutions. We investigate limits on $β$ from current cosmic microwave background and baryonic acoustic oscillation data and find that only a small deviation from the original scenario is allowed, $β=-0.08 \pm 0.12$ (68% C.L.), which is fully compatible with zero and confirms the robustness of the Starobinsky inflationary model in light of current observations.

Lifshitz-scaling in CPT-even Lorentz-violating electrodynamics and GRB time delay

In this work, we consider the Hořava-Lifshitz scaling to rewrite higher-order derivatives in Lorentz-violating CPT-even electrodynamics. The possibility of the Lorentz invariance violation being originally suppressed by the quantum gravity energy scale $M_{\rm QG}$, may be indeed circumvented in a scenario with anisotropy between space and time above certain intermediate energy scale $Λ_{\rm HL} \ll M_{\rm QG}$. To test the model, we have used observational results of a cosmological time delay between high and low energy photons from gamma ray bursts (GRB090510) event. For specific values of the Lifshitz critical exponent, we have found interesting lower bounds on the values of $M_{\rm QG}$.

Noncommutative correction to the entropy of BTZ black hole with GUP

We investigate the effect of noncommutativity and quantum corrections to the temperature and entropy of a BTZ black hole based on a Lorentzian distribution with the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). To determine the Hawking radiation in the tunneling formalism we apply the Hamilton-Jacobi method by using the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approach. In the present study we have obtained logarithmic corrections to entropy due to the effect of noncommutativity and GUP. We also address the issue concerning stability of the non-commutative BTZ black hole by investigating its modified specific heat capacity.

Noncommutative correction to the entropy of Schwarzschild black hole with GUP

In this paper we study through tunneling formalism, the effect of noncommutativity to Hawking radiation and the entropy of the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole. In our model we have considered the noncommutativity implemented via the Lorentzian distribution. We obtain non-commutative corrections to the Hawking temperature using the Hamilton-Jacobi method and the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation. In addition, we found corrections of the logarithmic and other types due to noncommutativity and quantum corrections from the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) for the entropy of the Schwarzschild black hole.

The Extension Method for Bloch Branes

The nature of gravity and its strength compared with other forces are fundamental challenges faced by the actual science. A path to understanding the hierarchy problem of gravity consists in adding an extra dimension to Einstein-Hilbert's general relativity. Therefore, gravity would be the only force leaking through this region of spacetime also known as brane. Despite the success of the mathematical description for the hierarchy issue through simple thin branes, it is also possible to derive a consistent theory of gravity using thick branes. The present work unveils a new procedure to determine analytic hybrid thick braneworld models. The discussions were based on the so-called Bloch branes, which are constructed via a two-field model coupled with gravity in 5-dimensional spacetime. Both fields used to build the Bloch branes depend only on the extra dimension, and the hybrid branes present internal structure, characterizing them as thick. In this work, we were able to derive new analytic thick brane models by using the extension method. Some of these new branes present a Minkowski spacetime immersed inside of the fifth-dimension. We showed how the symmetry of the emergent branes can be controlled via specific parameters. We also analyzed the stability conditions for each braneworld family, showing possible stable states for gravitons.

Absorption and scattering of a noncommutative black hole

In this paper we focus on the partial wave method with the aim of exploring the scattering of massless scalar waves due to the noncommutative Schwarzschild black hole via Lorentzian smeared mass distribution. We determine the phase shift analytically in low-frequency limit and we show that the scattering and absorption cross section is modified. Specially, we show that in the low-frequency limit the scattering/absorption cross section has its value decreased when we increase the value of the non-commutativity parameter. In addition, we have confirmed this result by solving the problem numerically for arbitrary frequencies. Such modifications found for the scattering and absorption cross section present similarities with the Reissner-Nordström black hole.

Absorption and scattering of a self-dual black hole

In this paper we aim to investigate the process of massless scalar wave scattering due to a self-dual black hole through the partial wave method. We calculate the phase shift analytically at the low energy limit and we show that the dominant term of the differential cross section at the small angle limit is modified by the presence of parameters related to the polymeric function and minimum area of a self-dual black hole. We also find that the result for the absorption cross section is given by the event horizon area of the self-dual black hole at the low frequency limit. We also show that, contrarily to the case of a Schwarzschild black hole, the differential scattering/absorption cross section of a self-dual black hole is nonzero at the zero mass limit. In addition, we verify these results by numerically solving the radial equation for arbitrary frequencies.

Black branes in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime and viscosity/entropy ratios in Horndeski gravity

We investigate black brane solutions in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime in 3+1-dimensional Horndeski gravity, which admit a critical exponent fixed at $z=1/2$. The cosmological constant depends on $z$ as $Λ=-(1+2z)/L^{2}$. We compute the shear viscosity in the 2+1-dimensional dual boundary field theory via holographic correspondence. We investigate the violation of the bound for viscosity to entropy density ratio of $η/s\geq1/(4π)$ at $z=1/2$.

Diffusive process under Lifshitz scaling and pandemic scenarios

We here propose to model active and cumulative cases data from COVID-19 by a continuous effective model based on a modified diffusion equation under Lifshitz scaling with a dynamic diffusion coefficient. The proposed model is rich enough to capture different aspects of a complex virus diffusion as humanity has been recently facing. The model being continuous it is bound to be solved analytically and/or numerically. So, we investigate two possible models where the diffusion coefficient associated with possible types of contamination are captured by some specific profiles. The active cases curves here derived were able to successfully describe the pandemic behavior of Germany and Spain. Moreover, we also predict some scenarios for the evolution of COVID-19 in Brazil. Furthermore, we depicted the cumulative cases curves of COVID-19, reproducing the spreading of the pandemic between the cities of São Paulo and São José dos Campos, Brazil. The scenarios also unveil how the lockdown measures can flatten the contamination curves. We can find the best profile of the diffusion coefficient that better fit the real data of pandemic.

Higher-derivative analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect, absorption and superresonance

In this paper we consider the acoustic metric obtained from an Abelian Higgs model extended with higher derivative terms in the bosonic sector which describes an acoustic rotating black hole and analyze the phenomena of superresonance, analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect and absorption. We investigate these effects by computing the scalar wave scattering by a draining bathtub vortex and discuss the physical interpretation of higher derivative terms. Furthermore, we show that the absorption does not vanish as the draining parameter tends to zero.

Polar gravitational perturbations and quasinormal modes of a loop quantum gravity black hole

In this work, we have calculated the polar gravitational quasinormal modes for a quantum corrected black hole model, that arises in the context of Loop Quantum Gravity, known as Self-Dual Black Hole. In this way, we have calculated the characteristic frequencies using the WKB approach, where we can verify a strong dependence with the Loop Quantum Gravity parameters. At the same time we check that the Self-Dual Black Hole is stable under polar gravitational perturbations, we can also verify that the spectrum of the polar quasinormal modes differs from the axial one \cite{Cruz:2015bcj}. Such a result tells us that isospectrality is broken in the context of Self Dual Black Holes.

Acoustic Black Holes and Universal Aspects of Area Products

In this paper we derive acoustic metrics in the (3+1)-dimensional Abelian Higgs model with higher derivative terms. We have found acoustic metrics that are conformally related to the Reissner-Nordström and Kerr-Newman metrics. The universal aspects of area products which depend only on quantized quantities such as conserved electric charge and angular momentum are also addressed. We relate these areas with entanglement entropy of acoustic black holes in BEC systems. We also have shown there is an equivalence between microscopic descriptions of axisymmetric acoustic black hole entropy in a BEC system in four and two dimensions. Particularly, the system seems to develop an analogue of the Kerr/CFT correspondence.

Induction of the higher-derivative Chern-Simons extension in QED$_3$

We perform the perturbative generation of the higher-derivative Chern-Simons contribution to the effective action in the three-dimensional QED at zero and finite temperature. In the latter case, we show that as the temperature goes to infinity this contribution vanishes. However, as expected, as the temperature goes to zero only the covariant part survives. The non-covariant part contributes only in intermediate temperatures where presents a maximum.

Kondo effect from a Lorentz-violating domain wall description of superconductivity

We extend recent results on domain wall description of superconductivity in an Abelian Higgs model by introducing a particular Lorentz-violating term. The temperature of the system is interpreted through the fact that the soliton following accelerating orbits is a Rindler observer experiencing a thermal bath. We show that this term can be associated with the {\sl Kondo effect}, that is, the Lorentz-violating parameter is closely related to the concentration of magnetic impurities living on a superconducting domain wall. We also found that the critical temperature decreasing with the impurity concentration as a non single-valued function, for the case $T_K < T_{c0}$, develops a negative curvature and presents deviations from the Abrikosov and Gor'kov theory, a phenomenon already supported by experimental evidence.

Lifshitz-scaling to Lorentz-violating high derivative operator and gamma-ray busts

In this work we have used a Hořava-Lifshitz scaling to rewrite a Lorentz-violating higher-order derivative electrodynamics controlled by a background four-vector $n_μ$. The photon propagator was obtained and we have analyzed the dispersion relation and the observational results of gamma-ray burst (GRB) experiments were used. The limits of the critical exponent were discussed in the light of the GRB data and the physical implications were compared with the current GRB-Lorentz-invariance-violation literature. We show that the bound for the Lorentz-violating coupling for dimension-six operators, obtained from a Hořava-Lifshitz scaling, is eight orders of magnitude better than the result found without considering a Hořava-Lifshitz scaling, also this bound is nearby one, which is expected to be relevant phenomenologically.

Localized four-dimensional gravity in the D-brane background with NS $B$ field

We calculate small correction terms to gravitational potential near $p$-branes embedded in a constant NS $B$ field background in the context of M-theory or string theory. The normalizable wave functions of gravity fluctuations around the brane describe only massive modes. We compute such wave functions analytically. We estimate the correction to gravitational potential for small and long distances, and show that there is an intermediate range of distances in which we can identify $4D$ gravity on the brane below a crossover scale given in terms of components of the $B$ field. The $4D$ gravity is metastable and for distances much larger than the crossover scale the $5D$ gravity is recovered.

Analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect in neo-Newtonian theory

We address the issues of the scattering of massless planar scalar waves by an acoustic black hole in neo-Newtonian hydrodynamics. We then compute the differential cross section through the use of the partial wave approach in the neo-Newtonian theory which is a modification of the usual Newtonian theory that correctly incorporates the effects of pressure. We mainly show that the scattering of planar waves leads to a modified analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect due to a nontrivial response of the parameters defining the equation of state.

Induced higher-derivative massive gravity on a 2-brane in 4D Minkowski space

In this paper we revisit the problem of localizing gravity in a 2-brane embedded in a 4D Minkowski space to address induction of high derivative massive gravity. We explore the structure of propagators to find well-behaved higher-derivative massive gravity induced on the brane. Exploring a special case in the generalized mass term of the graviton propagator we find a model of consistent higher order gravity with an additional unitary massive spin-2 particle and two massless particles: one spin-0 particle and one spin-1 particle. The condition for the absence of tachyons is satisfied for both `right' and `wrong' signs of the Einstein-Hilbert term on the 2-brane. We also find the Pauli-Fierz mass term added to the new massive gravity in three dimensions and recover the low dimensional DGP model.

Quantum-corrected finite entropy of noncommutative acoustic black holes

In this paper we consider the generalized uncertainty principle in the tunneling formalism via Hamilton-Jacobi method to determine the quantum-corrected Hawking temperature and entropy for 2+1-dimensional noncommutative acoustic black holes. In our results we obtain an area entropy, a correction logarithmic in leading order, a correction term in subleading order proportional to the radiation temperature associated with the noncommutative acoustic black holes and an extra term that depends on a conserved charge. Thus, as in the gravitational case, there is no need to introduce the ultraviolet cut-off and divergences are eliminated.

Application of Fibonacci oscillators in the Debye model

In this paper we study the thermodynamics of a crystalline solid by applying q-deformed algebra of Fibonacci oscillators through the generalized Fibonacci sequence of two real and independent deformation parameters q1 and q2. We find a (q1, q2)-deformed Hamiltonian and consequently the q-deformed thermodynamic quantities. The results led us to interpret the deformation parameters acting as disturbance or impurities factors modifying the characteristics of a crystal structure. More specifically, we found the possibility of adjusting the Fibonacci oscillators to describe the change of thermal conductivity of a given element as one inserts impurities.

Confinement and screening in tachyonic matter

In this paper we consider confinement and screening of the electric field. We study the behavior of a static electric field coupled to a dielectric function with the intent of obtaining an electrical confinement similar to what happens with the field of gluons that bind quarks in hadronic matter. For this we use the phenomenon of `anti-screening' in a medium with exotic dielectric. We show that tachyon matter behaves like an exotic way whose associated dielectric function modifies the Maxwell's equations and affects the fields which results in confining and Coulombian-like potentials in three spatial dimensions. We note that the confining regime coincides with the tachyon condensation, which resembles the effect of confinement due to condensation of magnetic monopoles. The Coulombian-like regime is developed at large distance which is associated with {a screening phase

Cosmological scenarios in modified gravity with non-dynamical fields

In this paper we address the issue of exploring some cosmological scenarios in modified Einstein gravity through non-dynamical (auxiliary) fields. We found that all scenarios are controlled by a specific parameter associated with an auxiliary field. We explore the emergence of inflationary, radiation, matter and dark energy dominated regimes. Furthermore, an interesting possibility such as the emergence of a self-tuning mechanism to the cosmological constant problem in the radiation dominated era is also discussed.

Holographic description of confinement and screening through brane cosmology

We compute the holographic quark potential in the realm of brane cosmology. We show that under certain conditions the very geometry due to an inflationary 3-brane induces a D3-D7-brane system. The cosmological constant that appears involved in the original geometry is attributed to the D7-brane position itself in its embedding process. We address the issues of confinement at low distances, screening effects at sufficiently large distances, and quark condensate.

Localized fields on scalar global defects

We investigate the localization of modes on the worldvolume of a p-brane embedded in p+d+1-dimensional spacetime. The p-brane here is such that its profile is regarded as a scalar global defect and the localized modes are scalar modes that come from the fluctuations around such defect. The effective action on the brane is computed and the induced potentials are typically phi^4-type potentials that are flatter for lower d-dimensions. We also make a connection of such scalar global defects with black p-branes in certain limits.

The entropy of the noncommutative acoustic black hole based on generalized uncertainty principle

In this paper we investigate statistical entropy of a 3-dimensional rotating acoustic black hole based on generalized uncertainty principle. In our results we obtain an area entropy and a correction term associated with the noncommutative acoustic black hole when $λ$ introduced in the generalized uncertainty principle takes a specific value. However, in this method, it is not needed to introduce the ultraviolet cut-off and divergences are eliminated. Moreover, the small mass approximation is not necessary in the original brick-wall model.

Noncommutative analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect and superresonance

We consider the idea of modeling a rotating acoustic black hole by an idealized draining bathtub vortex which is a planar circulating flow phenomenon with a sink at the origin. We find the acoustic metric for this phenomenon from a noncommutative Abelian Higgs model. As such the acoustic metric not only describes a rotating acoustic black hole but also inherits the noncommutative characteristic of the spacetime. We address the issues of superresonance and analogue Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect in this background. We mainly show that the scattering of planar waves by a draining bathtub vortex leads to a modified AB effect and due to spacetime noncommutativity, the phase shift persists even in the limit where the parameters associated with the circulation and draining vanish. Finally, we also find that the analogue AB effect and superresonance are competing phenomena at a noncommutative spacetime.

Analogue Aharonov-Bohm effect in a Lorentz-violating background

In this paper we consider the acoustic black hole metrics obtained from a relativistic fluid under the influence of constant background that violates the Lorentz symmetry to study the analogue of the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect. We show that the scattering of planar waves by a draining bathtub vortex leads to a modified AB effect and due to the Lorentz symmetry breaking, the phase shift persists even in the limit where the parameters associated with the circulation and draining vanish. In this limit, the Lorentz-violating background forms a conical defect, which is also responsible for the appearance of the analogue AB effect.

Self-tuning Horava-Lifshitz's Universe

In this paper we show that by considering a slightly modified Horava-Lifshitz gravity one can find self-tuning cosmological scenarios. Since in the proposed model the cosmological constant cancels out, then regardless of its value it cannot produce any gravitational effect. As a consequence this removes the gravitational effect of the vacuum energy on the expansion of the Universe. Accelerating scenarios, however, can be found through the presence of conventional and non-conventional fluids.

We show that the UV-regime at the Lifshitz point $z=3$ is equivalent to work with a momenta manifold whose topology is the same as that of an $AdS_2\times S^2$ space. According to Snyder's theory, curved momentum space is related to non-commutative quantized spacetime. In this sense, our analysis suggests an equivalence between Horava-Lifshitz and Snyder's theory.

The 4D-2D projection of Lorentz-violating Myers-Pospelov QED

We consider the four-dimensional quantum electrodynamics extended with Myers-Pospelov Lorentz-violating dimension-5 operators to investigate 4D-2D projection. In projecting out the 4D theory down to a 2D theory we get analogs of these operators. Namely, we obtain a new two-dimensional theory with corresponding scalar and fermionic 2D Myers-Pospelov Lorentz-violating dimension-3 operators. We address the study of the thermodynamics of a crystalline solid by applying q-deformed algebras. We based part of our study by considering both Einstein and Debye models. We have mainly explored the q-deformed thermal and electric conductivities as a function of the Debye specific heat. 3D black holes on a 2-brane in 4D Minkowski space

We investigate three-dimensional black hole solutions in the realm of pure and new massive gravity in 2+1 dimensions induced on a 2-brane embedded in a flat four-dimensional spacetime. There is no cosmological constant neither on the brane nor on the four-dimensional bulk. Only gravitational fields are turned on and we indeed find vacuum solutions as black holes in 2+1 dimensions even in the absence of any cosmological solution. There is a crossover scale that controls how far the three- or four-dimensional gravity manifests on the 2-brane. Our solutions also indicate that local BTZ and SdS_3 solutions can flow to local four-dimensional Schwarzschild like black holes, as one probes from small to large distances, which is clearly a higher dimensional manifestation on the 2-brane. This is similar to the DGP scenario where the effects of extra dimensions for large probed distances along the brane manifest.

4D gravity on a BPS brane in 5D AdS-Minkowski space

We calculate small correction terms to gravitational potential near an asymmetric BPS brane embedded in a 5D AdS-Minkowski space in the context of supergravity. The normalizable wave functions of gravity fluctuations around the brane describe only massive modes. We compute such wave functions analytically in the thin wall limit. We estimate the correction to gravitational potential for small and long distances, and show that there is an intermediate range of distances in which we can identify 4D gravity on the brane below a crossover scale. The 4D gravity is metastable and for distances much larger than the crossover scale the 5D gravity is recovered.

4D gravity on a non-BPS bent dilatonic brane

We investigate the localization of metastable four-dimensional gravity around a bent dilatonic brane, embedded into a five-dimensional space, that exists only up to distances sufficiently small compared to a crossover scale. Far from such scale, five-dimensional effects strongly deviate the Newtonian potential. We study this effect by considering localization of massive gravity on a non-BPS bent dilatonic 3-brane solution of a five-dimensional supergravity. Our results show that the cosmological constant on the bent brane controls the size of the crossover scale. For sufficiently small positive cosmological constant, that is in accord with the present observations, the crossover scale becomes very large.

In this study with the application of $q$-deformation to the Landau diamagnetism problem in two dimensions, embedded in a $D$-dimensional space, we will attempt to get a better understanding of the $q$-deformation. Superresonance effect from a rotating acoustic black hole and Lorentz symmetry breaking

We investigate the possibility of the acoustic superresonance phenomenon (analog to the superradiance in black hole physics), i.e., the amplification of a sound wave by reflection from the ergoregion of a rotating acoustic black hole with Lorentz symmetry breaking. For rotating black holes the effect of superradiance corresponds to the situation where the incident waves has reflection coefficient greater than one, and energy is extracted from them. For an acoustic Kerr-like black hole its rate of loss of mass is affected by the Lorentz symmetry breaking. We also have shown that for suitable values of the Lorentz violating parameter a wider spectrum of particle wave function can be scattered with increased amplitude by the acoustic black hole.

We have found that the changing in the Hawking temperature T_H due to spacetime noncommutativity account for supersonic velocities and analogously may also account for superluminal particles in the general form (v-c)/c=ΔT_H/8T_H. Assuming this form is also valid for gravitational black holes and particle physics, we have found that for ΔT_H about the heaviest muon neutrino mass and T_H about proton mass gives 2.12\times 10-5 which agrees with the recent OPERA experiments. We also consider the Hawking temperature in terms of surface gravity to address the issue of background influence in the neutrino superluminality to show that our investigations also agree with supernova SN1987A measurements.

Acoustic Black Holes from Abelian Higgs Model with Lorentz Symmetry Breaking

In this paper we derive acoustic black hole metrics in the (3+1) and (2+1)-dimensional Abelian Higgs model with Lorentz symmetry breaking. In this set up the sound waves lose the Lorentz boost invariance and suffer a 'birefringence' effect. We have found acoustic black holes and respective Hawking temperatures depending on the Lorentz violating parameter. Furthermore, we obtain an acoustic Kerr-like black hole metric with the Lorentz violating term affecting its rate of loss of mass. We also have shown that for suitable values of the Lorentz violating parameter a wider spectrum of particle wave function can be scattered with increased amplitude by the acoustic black hole.

Brane resolution in heterotic theory through BF term

We have studied the resolution of a naked singularity of a conifold in heterotic theory by a BF topological defect living in a 5-brane. The singularity is removed due to Chern-Simons action that changes the Bianchi identity for the H3 3-form. Following the previous analysis of Cvetic, Lu and Pope where they have studied the resolution through an instanton defect, we have taken a conifold over an Eguchi-Hanson manifold and a harmonic self-dual 2-form related with F2 to solve the differential equation for the warp factor. Since the H3 field is related to torsion in the extra manifold, we can interpret this conifold as one with torsion. Using the so called BF term we have found a solution with the same properties of the instanton such that the conifold is smoothed out and has a torsion that diverges in IR regime and vanish in UV regime.

Glueballs Mass Spectrum in an Inflationary Braneworld Scenario

We address the issue of glueball masses in a holographic dual field theory on the boundary of an AdS space deformed by a four-dimensional cosmological constant. These glueballs are related to scalar and tensorial fluctuations of the bulk fields on this space. In the Euclidean AdS4 case the allowed masses are discretized and are related to distinct inflaton masses on a 3-brane with several states of inflation. We then obtain the e-folds number in terms of the glueball masses. In the last part we focus on the Lorentzian dS4 case to focus on the QCD equation of state in dual field theory.

Multi-scalar tachyon potential on non-BPS domain walls

We have considered the multi-scalar and multi-tachyon fields living on a 3d domain wall embedded in a 5d dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The effective action for such a domain wall can be found by integrating out the normal modes as vibrating modes around the domain wall solution of a truncated 5d supergravity action. The multi-scalar tachyon potential are good enough to modeling assisted inflation scenario with multi-tachyon fields. The tachyon condensation are also briefly addressed.

Lorentz-violating Chern-Simons action under high temperature in massless QED

Lorentz and CPT violating QED with massless fermions at finite temperature is studied. We show that there is no ambiguity in the induced coefficient of the Chern-Simons-like term that defines the so-called Carroll-Field-Jackiw model at high temperature. We also show that this system constitutes an example where the breaking of CPT and Lorentz symmetries is more severe at high temperature than in the zero temperature case thus precluding any naive expectations of Lorentz symmetry restoration.

Relaxing to a three dimensional brane junction

We suggest a mechanism which leads to 3+1 space-time dimensions. The Universe assumed to have nine spatial dimensions is regarded as a special nonlinear oscillatory system -- a kind of Einstein solid. There are p-brane solutions which manifest as phase oscillations separating different phase states. The presence of interactions allows for bifurcations of higher dimensional spaces to lower dimensional ones in the form of brane junctions. We argue this is a natural way to select lower dimensions.

Confinement from new global defect structures

We investigate confinement from new global defect structures in three spatial dimensions. The global defects arise in models described by a single real scalar field, governed by special scalar potentials. They appear as electrically, magnetically or dyonically charged structures. We show that they induce confinement, when they are solutions of effective QCD-like field theories in which the vacua are regarded as color dielectric media with an anti-screening property. As expected, in three spatial dimensions the monopole-like global defects generate the Coulomb potential as part of several confining potentials.
