bb-Structures on Lie groups and Poisson reduction

Motivated by the group of Galilean transformations and the subgroup of Galilean transformations which fix time zero, we introduce the notion of a bb-Lie group as a pair (G,H)(G,H) where GG is a Lie group and HH is a codimension-one Lie subgroup. Such a notion allows us to give a theoretical framework for transformations of space-time where the initial time can be seen as a boundary. In this theoretical framework, we develop the basics of the theory and study the associated canonical bb-symplectic structure on the bb-cotangent bundle bT∗G^b {T}^\ast G together with its reduction theory. Namely, we extend the minimal coupling procedure to bT∗G/H^bT^*G/H and prove that the Poisson reduction under the cotangent lifted action of HH by left translations can be described in terms of the Lie Poisson structure on h∗\mathfrak{h}^\ast (where h\mathfrak{h} is the Lie algebra of HH) and the canonical bb-symplectic structure on bT∗(G/H)^b {T}^\ast(G/H), where G/HG/H is viewed as a one-dimensional bb-manifold having as critical hypersurface (in the sense of bb-manifolds) the identity element.

Geometric quantization via cotangent models

In this article we give a universal model for geometric quantization associated to a real polarization given by an integrable system with non-degenerate singularities. This universal model goes one step further than the previous cotangent models by both considering singular orbits and adding to the cotangent models a model for the prequantum line bundle. These singularities are generic in the sense that are given by Morse-type functions and include elliptic, hyperbolic and focus-focus singularities. Examples of systems admitting such singularities are toric, semitoric and almost toric manifolds, as well as physical systems such as the coupling of harmonic oscillators, the spherical pendulum or the reduction of the Euler's equations of the rigid body on T∗(SO(3))T^*(SO(3)) to a sphere. Our geometric quantization formulation coincides with the previous models away from the singularities and corrects former models for hyperbolic and focus-focus singularities cancelling out the infinite dimensional contributions obtained by former approaches. The geometric quantization models provided here match the classical physical methods for mechanical systems such as the spherical pendulum. Our cotangent models obey a local-to-global principle and can be glued to determine the geometric quantization of the global systems even if the global symplectic classification of the systems is not known in general.

On the singular Weinstein conjecture and the existence of escape orbits for bb-Beltrami fields

Motivated by Poincaré's orbits going to infinity in the (restricted) three-body (see [26] and [6]), we investigate the generic existence of heteroclinic-like orbits in a neighbourhood of the critical set of a bb-contact form. This is done by using the singular counterpart [3] of Etnyre--Ghrist's contact/Beltrami correspondence [9], and genericity results concerning eigenfunctions of the Laplacian established by Uhlenbeck [29]. Specifically, we analyze the bb-Beltrami vector fields on bb-manifolds of dimension 33 and prove that for a generic asymptotically exact bb-metric they exhibit escape orbits. We also show that a generic asymptotically symmetric bb-Beltrami vector field on an asymptotically flat bb-manifold has a generalized singular periodic orbit and at least 44 escape orbits. Generalized singular periodic orbits are trajectories of the vector field whose αα- and ωω-limit sets intersect the critical surface. These results are a first step towards proving the singular Weinstein conjecture.

A note on symplectic and Poisson linearization of semisimple Lie algebra actions

In this note we prove that an analytic symplectic action of a semisimple Lie algebra can be locally linearized in Darboux coordinates. This result yields simultaneous analytic linearization for Hamiltonian vector fields in a neighbourhood of a common zero. We also provide an example of smooth non-linearizable Hamiltonian action with semisimple linear part. The smooth analogue only holds if the semisimple Lie algebra is of compact type. An analytic equivariant b-Darboux theorem for b-Poisson manifolds and an analytic equivariant Weinstein splitting theorem for general Poisson manifolds are also obtained in the Poisson setting.

Symplectic and Poisson geometry on b-manifolds

Let M2nM^{2n} be a Poisson manifold with Poisson bivector field ΠΠ. We say that MM is b-Poisson if the map Πn:M→Λ2n(TM)Π^n:M\toΛ^{2n}(TM) intersects the zero section transversally on a codimension one submanifold Z⊂MZ\subset M. This paper will be a systematic investigation of such Poisson manifolds. In particular, we will study in detail the structure of (M,Π)(M,Π) in the neighbourhood of ZZ and using symplectic techniques define topological invariants which determine the structure up to isomorphism. We also investigate a variant of de Rham theory for these manifolds and its connection with Poisson cohomology.

Coupling symmetries with Poisson structures

We study local normal forms for completely integrable systems on Poisson manifolds in the presence of additional symmetries. The symmetries that we consider are encoded in actions of compact Lie groups. The existence of Weinstein's splitting theorem for the integrable system is also studied giving some examples in which such a splitting does not exist, i.e. when the integrable system is not, locally, a product of an integrable system on the symplectic leaf and an integrable system on a transversal. The problem of splitting for integrable systems with additional symmetries is also considered.

Codimension one symplectic foliations and regular Poisson structures

In this short note we give a complete characterization of a certain class of compact corank one Poisson manifolds, those equipped with a closed one-form defining the symplectic foliation and a closed two-form extending the symplectic form on each leaf. If such a manifold has a compact leaf, then all the leaves are compact, and furthermore the manifold is a mapping torus of a compact leaf. These manifolds and their regular Poisson structures admit an extension as the critical hypersurface of a Poisson b-manifold as we consider in a later paper.

Action-angle coordinates for integrable systems on Poisson manifolds

We prove the action-angle theorem in the general, and most natural, context of integrable systems on Poisson manifolds, thereby generalizing the classical proof, which is given in the context of symplectic manifolds. The topological part of the proof parallels the proof of the symplectic case, but the rest of the proof is quite different, since we are naturally led to using the calculus of polyvector fields, rather than differential forms; in particular, we use in the end a Poisson version of the classical Caratheodory-Jacobi-Lie theorem, which we also prove. At the end of the article, we generalize the action-angle theorem to the setting of non-commutative integrable systems on Poisson manifolds.

Equivariant normal form for nondegenerate singular orbits of integrable Hamiltonian systems

We consider an integrable Hamiltonian system with n-degrees of freedom whose first integrals are invariant under the symplectic action of a compact Lie group G. We prove that the singular Lagrangian foliation associated to this Hamiltonian system is symplectically equivalent, in a G-equivariant way, to the linearized foliation in a neighborhood of a compact singular non-degenerate orbit. We also show that the non-degeneracy condition is not equivalent to the non-resonance condition for smooth systems.
