Plane algebraic curves with prescribed singularities

We report on the problem of the existence of complex and real algebraic curves in the plane with prescribed singularities up to analytic and topological equivalence. The question is whether, for a given positive integer $d$ and a finite number of given analytic or topological singularity types, there exist a plane (irreducible) curve of degree $d$ having singular points of the given type as its only singularities. The set of all such curves is a quasi-projective variety, which we call an equisingular family (ESF). We describe, in terms of numerical invariants of the curves and their singularities, the state of the art concerning necessary and sufficient conditions for the non-emptiness and $T$-smoothness (i.e., smooth of expected dimension) of the corresponding ESF. The considered singularities can be arbitrary, but we spend special attention to plane curves with nodes and cusps, the most studied case, where still no complete answer is known in general. An important result is, however, that the necessary and the sufficient conditions show the same asymptotics for $T$-smooth equisingular families if the degree goes to infinity.

On Welschinger invariants of descendant type

We introduce enumerative invariants of real del Pezzo surfaces that count real rational curves belonging to a given divisor class, passing through a generic conjugation-invariant configuration of points and satisfying preassigned tangency conditions to given smooth arcs centered at the fixed points. The counted curves are equipped with Welschinger-type signs. We prove that such a count does not depend neither on the choice of the point-arc configuration, nor on the variation of the ambient real surface. These invariants can be regarded as a real counterpart of (complex) descendant invariants.

Refined elliptic tropical invariants of toric surfaces

F. Block and L. Göttsche introduced refined tropical invariants of toric surfaces that intertwine tropical Gromov-Witten and Welschinger invariants of toric surfaces. L. Göttsche and the first author introduced refined broccoli invariants that intertwine some genus zero descendant tropical invariants and broccoli invariants of toric surfaces. In this note, we extend the refined broccoli invariants to the genus one case.

Duality of planar and spacial curves: new insight

We study the geometry of equiclassical strata of the discriminant in the space of plane curves of a given degree, which are families of curves of given degree, genus and class (degree of the dual curve). Our main observation is that the use of duality transformation leads to a series of new sufficient conditions for a regular behavior of the equiclassical stratification. We also discuss duality of curves in higher-dimensional projective spaces and in Grassmannians with focus on similar questions of the regularity of equiclassical families of spacial curves.

Welschinger invariants of real Del Pezzo surfaces of degree $\ge 3$

We give a recursive formula for purely real Welschinger invariants of real Del Pezzo surfaces of degree $K^2\ge 3$, where in the case of surfaces of degree $3$ with two real components we introduce a certain modification of Welschinger invariants and enumerate exclusively the curves traced on the non-orientable component. As an application, we prove the positivity of the invariants under consideration and their logarithmic asymptotic equivalence, as well as congruence modulo $4$, to genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants.

On higher genus Welschinger invariants of Del Pezzo surfaces

The Welschinger invariants of real rational algebraic surfaces count real rational curves which represent a given divisor class and pass through a generic conjugation-invariant configuration of points. No invariants counting real curves of positive genera are known in general. We indicate particular situations, when Welschinger-type invariants counting real curves of positive genera can be defined. We also prove the positivity and give asymptotic estimates for such Weischinger-type invariants for several del Pezzo surfaces of degree $\ge2$ and suitable real nef and big divisor classes. In particular, this yields the existence of real curves of given genus and of given divisor class passing through any appropriate configuration of real points on the given surface.

Tropical curves with a singularity in a fixed point

In this paper, we study tropicalisations of families of curves with a singularity in a fixed point. The tropicalisation of such a family is a linear tropical variety. We describe its maximal dimensional cones using results about linear tropical varieties from Ardila and Klivans and from Feichtner and Sturmfels. We show that a singularity tropicalises either to a vertex of higher valence or of higher multiplicity, or to an edge of higher weight. We then classify maximal dimensional types of singular tropical curves. For those, the singularity is either a crossing of two edges, or a 3-valent vertex of multiplicity 3, or a point on an edge of weight 2 whose distances to the neighbouring vertices satisfy a certain metric condition. We also study algebraic preimages of our singular tropical curves.

Tropical surface singularities

In this paper, we study tropicalisations of singular surfaces in toric threefolds. We completely classify singular tropical surfaces of maximal-dimensional type, show that they can generically have only finitely many singular points, and describe all possible locations of singular points. More precisely, we show that singular points must be either vertices, or generalized midpoints and baricenters of certain faces of singular tropical surfaces, and, in some cases, there may be additional metric restrictions to faces of singular tropical surfaces.

Welschinger invariants of small non-toric Del Pezzo surfaces

We give a recursive formula for purely real Welschinger invariants of the following real Del Pezzo surfaces: the projective plane blown up at $q$ real and $s \leq 1$ pairs of conjugate imaginary points, where $q+2s\le 5$, and the real quadric blown up at $s \leq 1$ pairs of conjugate imaginary points and having non-empty real part. The formula is similar to Vakil's recursive formula for Gromov-Witten invariants of these surfaces and generalizes our recursive formula for purely real Welschinger invariants of real toric Del Pezzo surfaces. As a consequence, we prove the positivity of the Welschinger invariants under consideration and their logarithmic asymptotic equivalence to genus zero Gromov-Witten invariants.

Viro theorem and topology of real and complex combinatorial hypersurfaces

We introduce a class of combinatorial hypersurfaces in the complex projective space. They are submanifolds of codimension~2 in $\C P^n$ and are topologically "glued" out of algebraic hypersurfaces in $(\C^*)^n$. Our construction can be viewed as a version of the Viro gluing theorem, relating topology of algebraic hypersurfaces to the combinatorics of subdivisions of convex lattice polytopes. If a subdivision is convex, then according to the Viro theorem a combinatorial hypersurface is isotopic to an algebraic one. We study combinatorial hypersurfaces resulting from non-convex subdivisions of convex polytopes, show that they are almost complex varieties, and in the real case, they satisfy the same topological restrictions (congruences, inequalities etc.) as real algebraic hypersurfaces.
