Soft Pomeron in the Colour Glass Condensate approach

In this paper we suggest a new approach to the structure of the soft Pomeron: based on the $t$-channel unitarity, we expressed the exchange of the soft Pomeron through the interaction of the dipole of small size of the order of $1/Q_s(Y)$ ($Q_s(Y)$ is the saturation momentum) with the hadrons. Therefore, it is shown that the typical distances in soft processes are small $r \sim 1/Q_s\Lb \h Y \Rb $, where $Y \,=\,ln s$. The saturation momentum, which determines the energy dependence of the scattering amplitude is proportional to $ Q^2_s\Lb \h Y \Rb \propto\,\exp\Lb\h λ\,Y\Rb$, with $λ\approx\,0.2$, and this behaviour is in perfect agreement with phenomenological Donnachie-Landshoff Pomeron. We demonstrate that the saturation models could describe the experimental data for $σ_{tot},σ_{el},σ_{diff} $ and $B_{el}$. Hence our approach is a good first approximation to start discussion of the soft processes in CGC approach on the solid theoretical basis.

Non-linear evolution in the re-summed next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD:\confronting the experimental data

In this paper we compare the experimental HERA data with the next-to-leading order approach (NLO) of Ref.[C.~Contreras, E.~Levin, R.~Meneses and M.~Sanhueza,Eur. Phys. J. C 80 (2020) no.11, 1029). This approach includes the re-summed NLO corrections to the kernel of the evolution equation, the correct asymptotic behaviour in the NLO at $τ= r^2 Q^2_s \,\gg\,1$; the impact parameter dependence of the saturation scale in accord with the Froissarrt theorem as well as the non-linear corrections. In this paper, we successfully describe the experimental data with the quality, which is not worse, than in the leading order fits with larger number of the phenomenological parameters. It is demonstrated, that the data could be described, taking into account both the diffusion on $\ln(k_T)$, which stems from perturbative QCD, and the Gribov's diffusion in impact parameters. It is shown an ability to describe the data at rather large values of $α_S$.

QCD Odderon: non linear evolution in the leading twist

In the paper we propose and solve analytically the non-linear evolution equation in the leading twist approximation for the Odderon contribution. We found three qualitative features of this solution, which differs the Odderon contribution from the Pomeron one :(i) the behaviour in the vicinity of the saturation scale cannot be derived from the linear evolution in a dramatic difference with the Pomeron case; (ii) a substantial decrease of the Odderon contribution with the energy; and (iii) the lack of geometric scaling behaviour. The two last features have been seen in numerical attempts to solve the Odderon equation.

BFKL pomeron with massive gluons and running coupling

In this paper we proceed with the study of the Pomeron spectrum, by solving numerically the BFKL equation with massive gluons and running coupling. The spectrum of Regge singularities is discrete and the leading Pomeron has a considerable dependence on nonperturbative effects, for which we use Higgs mechanism as a model. We cross-checked this result with variational method and confirmed the infrared sensitivity of leading Pomeron. This fact is related to the infrared instability of the BFKL equation in QCD, with a running coupling. The subleading poles have a mild sensitivity to the soft physics, and are well described by known semiclassical methods. We also discuss the dependence on various prescriptions of the running coupling arguments.

CGC/saturation approach: a new impact-parameter dependent model in the next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD

This paper is the first attempt to build CGC/saturation model based on the next-to-leading order corrections to linear and non-linear evolution in QCD. We assume that the renormalization scale is the saturation momentum and found that the scattering amplitude has geometric scaling behaviour deep in the saturation domain with the explicit formula of this behaviour at large $τ= r^2 Q^2_s$. We built a model that include this behaviour, as well as the ingredients that has been known: (i) the behaviour of the scattering amplitude in the vicinity of the saturation momentum, using the NLO BFKL kernel, (ii) the pre-asymptotic behaviour of $\ln\Lb Q^2_s\Lb Y \Rb\Rb$, as function of $Y$ and (iii) the impact parameter behaviour of the saturation momentum, which has exponential behaviour $\propto \exp\Lb -\, m\, b\Rb$ at large $b$.We demonstrated that the model is able to describe the experimental data for the deep inelastic structure function. Despite this, our model has difficulties that are related to the small value of the QCD coupling at $Q_s\Lb Y_0\Rb$ and the large values of the saturation momentum, which indicate the theoretical inconsistency of our description.

QCD unitarity constraints on Reggeon Field Theory

We point out that the $s$-channel unitarity of QCD imposes meaningful constraints on a possible form of the QCD Reggeon Field Theory. We show that neither the BFKL nor JIMWLK nor Braun's Hamiltonian satisfy the said constraints. In a toy, zero transverse dimensional case we construct a model that satisfies the analogous constraint and show that at infinite energy it indeed tends to a "black disk limit" as opposed to the model with triple Pomeron vertex only, routinely used as a toy model in the literature.

CGC/saturation approach: a new impact-parameter dependent model

{In this paper we propose a new impact-parameter dependent CGC/saturation model. We introduce two new features in the model that make it consistent with what we know theoretically about the deep inelastic scattering. They are: the use of the exact form of the solution to the non-linear (BK) equation, whereas in all previous attempts only the form of $r^2Q^2_s$ dependence, has been taken into account; and the large impact parameter dependence, through the $b$-dependence of the saturation momentum which reproduce the correct behaviour of the amplitude at large impact parameters $b$ ($A \propto \exp\Lb - μb\Rb$) as well as at large momentum transferred $Q_T$ ($A $ decreases as a power of $Q_T$ as it follows from perturbative QCD). These improvement compared to all previous attempts to build such models, allows us to claim, that the experimental data are in accord with the prediction of CGC/saturation approach while previously, based on similar models, we could only conclude that the DIS data, perhaps, can be described by introducing the shadowing corrections at small photon virtualities.

Semiclassical solution to the BFKL equation with massive gluons

In this paper we proceed to study the high energy behavior of a scattering amplitudes in the Yang-Mills theory with the Higgs mechanism for the gauge boson mass. The spectrum of the $j$-plane singularities of the $t$-channel partial waves, and corresponding eigenfunctions of the BFKL equation in leading log approximation (LLA), were previously calculated by us numerically in arXiv:1401.4671 . Here we develop a semiclassical approach and investigate the influence of the impact parameter exponential decrease, existing in this model, on the high energy asymptotic behaviour of the scattering amplitude. This approach is much simpler than the numerical calculations, and reproduces our earlier numerical results. The analytical (semianalytical) solutions which have been found in this paper, can be used to incorporate correctly the large impact parameter behavior in the framework of CGC/saturation approach. This behaviour is interesting as provides the high energy amplitude for the electroweak theory, which can be measured experimentally.

Azimuthal angle correlations in hadron-nucleus scattering: enhanced diagrams

In this paper we calculate the contribution to rapidity and angular correlations of the first Pomeron loop diagram in the dense partonic environment. This diagram is expected to give the largest contribution to the density variation mechanism of the angular correlations. We show that this diagrams leads to sizable contributions to the rapidity correlation functions of the order of $σ_{in} /\Lb πR^2\Rb$ where $σ_{in}$ is the inelastic cross section and $R$ is the size of the typical dipole inside the proton saturation scale. Therefore, the correlations do not depend on the saturation scale. We demonstrated that density variation mechanism does not lead to suppression of the angular dependance of the double inclusive cross section generating the coefficient in front of $\cos^2 φ$ in $A^{1/3}$ larger in the case of hadron-nucleus collision than in hadron-hadron interaction. The angular correlations are suppressed in comparison with the rapidity ones but only due to large multiplicity of the produced gluons. We consider this paper as the first attempt of quantitative description of the density variation mechanism in CGC/saturation approach.

BFKL Pomeron with massive gluons

We solve the BFKL equation in the leading logarithmic approximation numerically in the Yang-Mills theory with the Higgs mechanism for the vector boson mass generation. It can be considered as a model for the amplitude with the correct behavior of the $s$-channel partial waves at large impact parameters. The Pomeron spectrum of the massive BFKL kernel in the $ω$-space for $t=0$ coincides with the continuous spectrum for the massless case although the density of its eigenvalues is two times smaller for $ω>ω_0$, where $ω_0$ is a negative number. We find a simple parametrization for the corresponding eigenfunctions. Because the leading singularity in the $ω$-plane in this Higgs model for $t=0$ is a fixed cut, the Regge pole contributions could be only for non-physical positive $t$. Hence we can state that the correct behaviour at large $b$ does not influence the main properties of the BFKL equation.

KLWMIJ Reggeon Field Theory beyond the large $N_c$ limit

We extend the analysis of KLWMIJ evolution in terms of QCD Reggeon fields beyond leading order in the $1/N_c$ expansion. We show that there is only one type of corrections to the leading order Hamiltonian discussed in \cite{last}. These are terms linear in original Reggeons and quadratic in conjugate Reggeon operators. All of these have the interpretation as vertices of the "`merging"' type $2\rightarrow 1$, where two Reggeons merge into one. Importantly, the triple Pomeron merging vertex does not emerge from the KLWMIJ Hamiltonian. We show that, although in the range of applicability of the KLWMIJ Hamiltonian these merging terms are subleading in $N_c$, in the dense-dense regime they all become of the same (leading) order in $N_c$. In this regime vertices involving higher Reggeons are enhanced by inverse powers of the coupling constant.

Large $\mathbf{b}$ behaviour in the CGC/saturation approach: BFKL equation with pion loops

In this paper we proposed a solution to the longstanding problem of the CGC/saturation approach: the power-like fall of the scattering amplitudes at large $b$. This decrease leads to the violation of the Froissart theorem and makes the approach theoretically inconsistent. We showed in the paper that sum of the pion loops results in the exponential fall of the scattering amplitude at large impact parameters and in the restoration of the Froissart theorem.

Non linear evolution: revisiting the solution in the saturation region

In this paper we revisit the problem of the solution to Balitsky-Kovchegov equation deeply in the saturation domain. We find that solution has the form of Levin-Tuchin solution but it depends on variable $\bar{z} = \ln(r^2 Q^2_s) + \mbox{Const}$ and the value of $\mbox{Const}$ is calculated in this paper. We propose the solution for full BFKL kernel at large $z$ in the entire kinematic region that satisfies the McLerram-Venugopalan initial condition

Reggeon Field Theory for Large Pomeron Loops

We analyze the range of applicability of the high energy Reggeon Field Theory $H_{RFT}$ derived in [1]. We show that this theory is valid as long as at any intermediate value of rapidity $η$ throughout the evolution at least one of the colliding objects is dilute. Importantly, at some values of $η$ the dilute object could be the projectile, while at others it could be the target, so that $H_{RFT}$ does not reduce to either $H_{JIMWLK}$ or $H_{KLWMIJ}$. When both objects are dense, corrections to the evolution not accounted for in [1] become important. The same limitation applies to other approaches to high energy evolution available today, such as for example [3] and [4]. We also show that, in its regime of applicability $H_{RFT}$ can be simplified. We derive the simpler version of $H_{RFT}$ and in the large $N_c$ limit rewrite it in terms of the Reggeon creation and annihilation operators. The resulting $H_{RFT}$ is explicitly self dual and provides the generalization of the Pomeron calculus developed in [4] by including higher Reggeons in the evolution. It is applicable for description of `large' Pomeron loops, namely Reggeon graphs where all the splittings occur close in rapidity to one dilute object (projectile), while all the merging close to the other one (target). Additionally we derive, in the same regime expressions for single and double inclusive gluon production (where the gluons are not separated by a large rapidity interval) in terms of the Reggeon degrees of freedom.

BFKL equation with running QCD coupling and HERA data

In this paper we developed approach based on the BFKL evolution in $\ln\Lb Q^2\Rb$. We show that the simplest diffusion approximation with running QCD coupling is able to describe the HERA experimental data on the deep inelastic structure function with good $χ^2/d.o.f. \approx 1.3$. From our description of the experimental data we learned several lessons; (i) the non-perturbative physics at long distances started to show up at $Q^2 = 0.25\,GeV^2$; (ii) the scattering amplitude at $Q^2 = 0.25\,GeV^2$ cannot be written as sum of soft Pomeron and the secondary Reggeon but the Pomeron interactions should be taken into account; (iii) the Pomeron interactions can be reduced to the enhanced diagrams and, therefore, we do not see any needs for the shadowing corrections at HERA energies; and (iv) we demonstrated that the shadowing correction could be sizable at higher than HERA energies without any contradiction with our initial conditions.

BFKL Pomeron calculus: solution to equations for nucleus-nucleus scattering in the saturation domain

In this paper we solve the equation for nucleus-nucleus scattering in the BFKL Pomeron calculus, suggested by Braun. We find these solutions analytically at high energies as well as numerically in the entire region of energies inside the saturation region. The semi-classical approximation is used to select out the infinite set of the parasite solutions. The nucleus-nucleus cross sections at high energy are estimated and compared with the Glauber-Gribov approach. It turns out that the exact formula gives the estimates that are very close to the ones based on Glauber-Gribov formula which is important for the practical applications

BFKL Pomeron: modeling confinement

In this paper we introduce the confinement into the kernel of the BFKL equation, assuming that the sizes of produced dipoles cannot be large. The goal of this paper is to find how this assumption, which leads to a correct exponential decrease of the amplitude at large impact parameters, affects the main properties of the BFKL Pomeron. We solve the equations for total cross section and $\ <| b^2 |\ >$ numerically and developed some methods of analytical solutions. The main result is that the modified BFKL Pomeron has the same intercept and $α'_\pom = 0$ as the BFKL Pomeron. It gives us a hope that the unknown confinement will change only slightly the equations of the CGC/saturation approach

Dipole-dipole scattering in CGC/saturation approach at high energy: summing Pomeron loops

In this paper we demonstrate that the dense system of partons (gluons) can be produced in dilute-dilute system scattering, using the example of dipole-dipole collisions. This increase in density stems from the intensive gluon cascades that can be described by the enhanced BFKL Pomeron diagrams (Pomeron loops). For the first time we found the analytical solution to the equation for diffraction production in the dipole-dense parton system scattering, using the simplified BFKL kernel. Having this solution as well as the solution to Balitsky- Kovchegov equation we developed technique that allowed us to calculate the total cross section, cross sections for single and double diffractions in the MPSI approximation. Calculating inclusive production and two gluon correlations we see that the dense and strongly correlated system of gluons can be produced at high energy in the dipole-dipole scattering.

Gluon saturation: survival probability for leading neutrons in DIS

In this paper we discuss the example of one rapidity gap process: the inclusive cross sections of the leading neutrons in deep inelastic scattering with protons (DIS). The equations for this process are proposed and solved, giving the example of theoretical calculation of the survival probability for one rapidity gap processes. It turns out that the value of the survival probability is small and it decreases with energy

Nuclear modification factor for gluon jets

It is shown that the nuclear modification factor can be smaller that unity for jet production at small $x$ and at large transverse momentum without any violation of the factorization theorem and the initial state effects is able to explain the nuclear modification factor of the order of the one measured by ATLAS. In other word, initial state effects are able to describe the jet quenching for the gluon jet production.

BFKL Pomeron calculus: nucleus-nucleus scattering

In this paper the action of the BFKL Pomeron calculus is re-written in momentum representation, and the equations of motion for nucleus-nucleus collisions are derived, in this representation. We found the semi-classical solutions to these equations, outside of the saturation domain. Inside this domain these equations reduce to the set of delay differential equations, and their asymptotic solutions are derived.

Geometric scaling behavior of the scattering amplitude for DIS with nuclei

The main question, that we answer in this paper, is whether the initial condition can influence on the geometric scaling behavior of the amplitude for DIS at high energy. We re-write the non-linear Balitsky-Kovchegov equation in the form which is useful for treating the interaction with nuclei. Using the simplified BFKL kernel, we find the analytical solution to this equation with the initial condition given by the McLerran-Venugopalan formula. This solution does not show the geometric scaling behavior of the amplitude deeply in the saturation region. On the other hand, the BFKL Pomeron calculus with the initial condition at $x_A = 1/mR_A$ given by the solution to Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, leads to the geometric scaling behavior. The McLerran - Venugopalan formula is the natural initial condition for the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) approach. Therefore, our result gives a possibility to check experimentally which approach: CGC or BFKL Pomeron calculus, is more adequate.

Gluon saturation and energy dependence of hadron multiplicity in pp and AA collisions at the LHC

The recent results in \sqrt{s}=2.76 TeV Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) reported by the ALICE collaboration shows that the power-law energy-dependence of charged hadron multiplicity in Pb+Pb collisions is significantly different from p+p collisions. We show that this different energy-dependence can be explained by inclusion of a strong angular-ordering in the gluon-decay cascade within the Color-Glass-Condensate (or gluon saturation) approach. This effect is more important in nucleus-nucleus collisions where the saturation scale is larger than 1 GeV. Our prescription gives a good description of the LHC data both in p+p and Pb+Pb collisions.

High density QCD and nucleus-nucleus scattering deeply in the saturation region

In this paper we solve the equations that describe nucleus nucleus scattering, in high density QCD,in the framework of the BFKL Pomeron calculus. We found that (i) the contribution of short distances to the opacity for nucleus-nucleus scattering dies at high energies, (ii) the opacity tends to unity at high energy, and (iii) the main contribution that survives comes from soft (long distance) processes for large values of the impact parameter. The corrections to the opacity $Ω\Lb Y,b\Rb = 1$ were calculated and it turns out that they have a completely different form, namely($1 - Ω\to \exp\Lb - Const\,\sqrt{Y}\Rb$) than the opacity that stems from the Balisky-Kovchegov equation, which is($1 - Ω\to \exp\Lb - Const\,Y^2\Rb$). We reproduce the formula for the nucleus-nucleus cross section that is commonly used in the description of nucleus-nucleus scattering, and there is no reason why it should be correct in the Glauber-Gribov approach

Inclusive production in a QCD and N=4 SYM motivated model for soft interactions

The results presented in this paper differ from our previous unsuccessful attempt to predict the rapidity distribution at $W = 7 \,TeV$. The original version of our model (GLMM) only summed a particular class of Pomeron diagrams (enhanced diagrams). We believe that this was the reason for our failure to describe the $7 \,TeV$ inclusive LHC data. We have developed a new approach (GLM) that also includes the summation of the semi-enhanced diagrams. This contribution is essential for a successful description of the inclusive distributions, which is presented here.

On the Nuclear Modification Factor at RHIC and LHC

We show that pQCD factorization incorporated with pre-haronization energy-loss effect naturally leads to flatness of the nuclear modification factor R_{AA} for produced hadrons at high transverse momentum p_T. We consider two possible scenarios for the pre-hadronization: In scenario 1, the produced gluon propagates through dense QCD medium and loses energy. In scenario 2, all gluons first decay to quark-antiquark pairs and then each pair loses energy as propagating through the medium. We show that the estimates of the energy-loss in these two different models lead to very close values and is able to explain the suppression of high-p_T hadrons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC. We show that the onset of the flatness of R_{AA} for the produced hadron in central collisions at midrapidity is about p_T\approx 15 and 25 GeV at RHIC and the LHC energies, respectively. We show that the smallness (R_{AA}<0.5) and the high-p_T flatness of R_{AA} obtained from the k_T factorization supplemented with the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) equation is rather generic and it does not strongly depend on the details of the BK solutions. We show that energy-loss effect reduces the nuclear modification factor obtained from the k_T factorization about 30÷50% at moderate p_T.

The Ridge from the BFKL evolution and beyond

We show that the long-range rapidity correlations between the produced charged-hadron pairs from two BFKL parton showers generate considerable azimuthal angle correlations. These correlations have no 1/N_c suppression. The effect of gluon saturation on these correlations are discussed and we show that it is important. We show that a pronounced ridge-like structure emerges by going from the BFKL to the saturation region. We show that the ridge structure at high-energy proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus collisions has the same origin and its main feature can be understood due to initial-state effects. Although the effects of final-state interactions in the latter case can be non-negligible.

Violation of the geometric scaling behaviour of the amplitude for running QCD coupling in the saturation region

In this paper we show that the intuitive guess that the geometric scaling behaviour should be violated in the case of the running QCD coupling, turns out to be correct. The scattering amplitude of the dipole with the size $r$ depends on new dimensional scale: $Λ_{QCD}$, even at large values $Y = \ln(1/x)$ and $l\,=\, \ln\Lb \as\Lb r^2\Rb/\as\Lb 1/Q^2_s\Rb\Rb$. However, in this region we found a new scaling behaviour: the amplitude is a function of $ζ= Y\,l$. We state that only in the vicinity of the saturation scale $Q_s$ ($\as(Q^2_s)\,\ln \Lb r^2 Q^2_s\Rb\,\leq \, 1$), the amplitude shows the geometric scaling behaviour. Based on these finding the geometric scaling behavior that has been seen experimentally, stems from either we have not probed the proton at HERA and the LHC deeply inside the saturation region or that there exists the mechanism of freezing of the QCD coupling constant at $r^2 \approx 1/Q^2_s$.

Gluon saturation and inclusive hadron production at LHC

In high density QCD the hadron production stems from decay of mini-jets that have the transverse momenta of the order of the saturation scale. It is shown in this paper that this idea is able to describe in a unique fashion both the inclusive hadron production for \sqrt{s} \geq 546 GeV including the first data from LHC and the deep inelastic scattering at HERA. Recently reported data from ALICE, CMS and ATLAS including inclusive charged-hadron transverse-momentum and multiplicity distribution in pp collisions are well described in our approach. We provide predictions for the upcoming LHC measurements.

Gluon saturation and inclusive production at low transverse momenta

In this letter we suggest the generalization of $k_T$-factorization formula for inclusive gluon production for the dense-dense parton system scattering. It turnes out that the soft gluon production with transverse momentum $p_T$ is suppressed by additional Sudakov-like factor that depends on $p^2_T/Q^2_s$ ratio in a good agreement with the first numerical calculation in Colour Glass Condensate approach by J.P. Hadron multiplicity in pp and AA collisions at LHC from the Color Glass Condensate

We provide quantitative predictions for the rapidity, centrality and energy dependencies of inclusive charged-hadron productions for the forthcoming LHC measurements in nucleus-nucleus collisions based on the idea of gluon saturation in the color-glass condensate framework. Our formulation gives very good descriptions of the first data from the LHC for the inclusive charged-hadron production in proton-proton collisions, the deep inelastic scattering at HERA at small Bjorken-x, and the hadron multiplicities in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC.

Hadron production at the LHC: Any indication of new phenomena

We confront soft Pomeron and gluon saturation models with the first LHC data on inclusive hadron production. We claim that while the first type of models are not able to describe some part of the LHC data, the Colour-Glass-Condensate (gluon saturation) approach gives an adequate description of the data. Here, we compare our published predictions with the recently available 7 TeV data. We firmly believe that if further experimental measurements confirm that the gluon saturation works, it will be a major discovery.

Inside looking out: probing JIMWLK with BFKL calculations

We investigate the relation between the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the BFKL and JIMWLK/KLWMIJ Hamiltonians. We show that the eigenvalues of the BFKL Hamiltonians are also {\it exact} eigenvalues of the KLWMIJ (and JIMWLK) Hamiltonian, albeit corresponding to possibly non normalizable eigenfunctions. The question whether a given eigenfunction of BFKL corresponds to a normalizable eigenfunction of KLWMIJ is rather complicated, except in some obvious cases, and requires independent investigation. As an example to illustrate this relation we concentrate on the color octet exchange in the framework of KLWMIJ Hamiltonian. We show that it corresponds to the reggeized gluon exchange of BFKL, and find first correction to the BFKL wave function, which has the meaning of the impact factor for shadowing correction to the reggeized gluon. We also show that the bootstrap condition in the KLWMIJ framework is satisfied automatically and does not carry any additional information to that contained in the second quantized structure of the KLWMIJ Hamiltonian. This is an example of how the bootstrap condition inherent in the t-channel unitarity, arises in the s-channel picture.

Non-linear equation: energy conservation and impact parameter dependence

In this paper we address two questions: how energy conservation affects the solution to the non-linear equation, and how impact parameter dependence influences the inclusive production. Answering the first question we solve the modified BK equation which takes into account energy conservation. In spite of the fact that we used the simplified kernel, we believe that the main result of the paper: the small ($\leq 40%$) suppression of the inclusive productiondue to energy conservation, reflects a general feature. This result leads us to believe that the small value of the nuclear modification factor is of a non-perturbative nature. In the solution a new scale appears $Q_{fr} = Q_s \exp(-1/(2 \bas))$ and the production of dipoles with the size larger than $2/Q_{fr}$ is suppressed. Therefore, we can expect that the typical temperature for hadron production is about $Q_{fr}$ ($ T \approx Q_{fr}$). The simplified equation allows us to obtain a solution to Balitsky-Kovchegov equation taking into account the impact parameter dependence. We show that the impact parameter ($b$) dependence can be absorbed into the non-perturbative $b$ dependence of the saturation scale. The solution of the BK equation, as well as of the modified BK equation without $b$ dependence, is only accurate up to $\pm 25%$.

Broken scale invariance, massless dilaton and confinement in QCD

Classical conformal invariance of QCD in the chiral limit is broken explicitly by scale anomaly. As a result, the lightest scalar particle (scalar glueball, or dilaton) in QCD is not light, and cannot be described as a Goldstone boson. Nevertheless basing on an effective low-energy theory of broken scale invariance we argue that inside the hadrons the non-perturbative interactions of gluon fields result in the emergence of a massless dilaton excitation (which we call the "scalaron"). We demonstrate that our effective theory of broken scale invariance leads to confinement. This theory allows a dual formulation as a classical Yang-Mills theory on a curved conformal space-time background. Possible applications are discussed, including the description of strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma and the spin structure of hadrons.

J/Psi production in heavy ion collisions and gluon saturation

We calculate the inclusive J/Psi production in heavy ion collisions including the effects of gluon saturation in the wave functions of the colliding nuclei. We argue that the dominant production mechanism in proton--nucleus and nucleus--nucleus collisions for heavy nuclei is different from the one in hadron-hadron interactions. We find that the rapidity distribution of primary J/Psi production is more peaked around midrapidity than the analogous distribution in elementary pp collisions. We discuss the consequences of this fact on the experimentally observed J/Psi suppression in Au-Au collisions at RHIC energies.

Jet Azimuthal Correlations and Parton Saturation in the Color Glass Condensate

We consider the influence of parton saturation in the Color Glass Condensate on the back-to-back azimuthal correlations of high $p_T$ hadrons in $pA$ (or $dA$) collisions. When both near--side and away--side hadrons are detected at mid-rapidity at RHIC energy, the effects of parton saturation are constrained to transverse momenta below the saturation scale $p_T \leq Q_s$; in this case the back-to-back correlations do not disappear but exhibit broadening. However when near-side and away-side hadrons are separated by several units of rapidity, quantum evolution effects lead to the depletion of back-to-back correlations as a function of rapidity interval between the detected hadrons (at fixed $p_T$). This applies to both $pp$ and $pA$ (or $dA$) collisions; however, due to the initial conditions provided by the Color Glass Condensate, the depletion of the back-to-back correlations is significantly stronger in the $pA$ case. An experimental study of this effect would thus help to clarify the origin of the high $p_T$ hadron suppression at forward rapidities observed recently at RHIC.

QCD Saturation and $γ^*-γ^*$ Scattering

Two photon collisions at high energy have an important theoretical advantage: the simplicity of the initial state, which gives us a unique opportunity to calculate these processes for large virtualities of both photons in perturbative QCD approach. In this paper we study QCD saturation in two photon collisions in the framework of the Glauber-Mueller approach. The Glauber-Mueller formula is derived emphasizing the impact parameter dependence ($b_t$) of the dipole-dipole amplitude. It is shown that non-perturbative QCD contributions are needed to describe large $b_t $-behaviour, and the way how to deal with them is suggested. Our approach can be viewed as the model for the saturation in which the entire impact parameter dependence is determined by the initial conditions. The unitarity bound for the total cross section, its energy dependence as well aspredictions for future experiments are discussed. It is argued that the total cross section increases faster than any power of $ \log(1/x)$ in a wide range of energy or $x$, namely $σ(γ^*-γ^*) \propto (1/Q^2) exp(a \sqrt{\ln(1/x)}) \leq 1/m^2_π$ where $exp(a \sqrt{\ln(1/x)})$ reflects the $x$ dependence of the gluon density $xG \propto exp(2 a \sqrt{\ln(1/x)})$ and $m_π$ is the pion mass.

THE POMERON: YESTERDAY, TODAY and TOMORROW

These lectures are the review of the main ideas and approaches to the structure of the Pomeron. They are divided in three natural parts: (i) the brief review of the Reggeon Calculus, which was the first attempt to build the effective theory of the strong interaction at high energy. In spite of the fact that this approach turns out to be inconsistent and in lectures we show why, the Reggeon approach was and is the main source of the terminology and phenomenology for high energy ``soft" interactions. (ii) the detail description of the QCD approach to high energy interaction. We try to combine the rigorous approach in perturbative QCD with more simple, intuitive guess based on general properties of QCD to clarify our expectations and predictions. (iii) the outline of my personal opinion what problems will be important in the future. The main reason for the lectures was just the last part to agitate you to think about this difficult but because of that interesting problem. The motto of my lectures is {\it `` there is nothing more exciting than to solve a difficult problem. Pomeron is the one.''}
