The Calabi-Yau equation on the Kodaira-Thurston manifold, viewed as an S^1-bundle over a 3-torus

In this paper we deal with the problem of regularity for non hypo-elliptic partial differential equations with polynomial coefficients. An operator $A$ on on the space of tempered distributions $\mathcal{S}^\prime$ is regular if $u$ belongs to the Schwartz class $\mathcal S$ whenever $Au\in \mathcal S$. By using tensor products of topological vector spaces and a kind of Wigner transform we reduce the study of regularity of a non hypo-elliptic differential operator, like the twisted laplacian, to a hypo-elliptic one, like the harmonic oscillator.
In the spirit of [10,2], we study the Calabi-Yau equation on $T^2$-bundles over $\mathbb{T}^2$ endowed with an invariant non-Lagrangian almost-Kähler structure showing that for $T^2$-invariant initial data it reduces to a Monge-Ampère equation having a unique solution. In this way we prove that for every total space $M^4$ of an orientable $T^2$-bundle over $\mathbb{T}^2$ endowed with an invariant almost-Kähler structure the Calabi-Yau problem has a solution for every normalized $T^2$-invariant volume form.
