A Riemann-Hilbert approach to existence of global solutions to the Fokas-Lenells equation on the line

We obtain the the existence of global solutions to the Cauchy problem of the Fokas-Lenells (FL) equation on the line \begin{align} &u_{xt}+αβ^2u-2iαβu_x-αu_{xx}-iαβ^2|u|^2u_x=0,\nonumber \\ &u(x,t=0)=u_0(x), \nonumber \end{align} where without the small-norm assumption on initial data $u_0(x)\in H^3(\mathbb{R})\cap H^{2,1}(\mathbb{R})$. Our main technical tool is the inverse scattering transform method based on the representation of a Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problem associated with the above Cauchy problem. The existence and the uniqueness of the RH problem is shown via a general vanishing lemma. The spectral problem associated with the FL equation is changed into an equivalent Zakharov-Shabat-type spectral problem to establish the RH problems on the real axis. By representing the solutions of the RH problem via the Cauchy integral protection and the reflection coefficients, the reconstruction formula is used to obtain a unique local solution of the FL equation. Further, the eigenfunctions and the reflection coefficients are shown Lipschitz continuous with respect to initial data, which provides a priori estimate of the solution to the FL equation. Based on the local solution and the uniformly priori estimate, we construct a unique global solution in $H^3(\mathbb{R})\cap H^{2,1}(\mathbb{R})$ to the FL equation.

Existence of global solutions to the nonlocal Schrödinger equation on the line

In this paper, we address the existence of global solutions to the Cauchy problem for the integrable nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (nonlocal NLS) equation with the initial data $q_0(x)\in H^{1,1}(\R)$ with the $L^1(\R)$ small-norm assumption. We rigorously show that the spectral problem for the nonlocal NLS equation admits no eigenvalues or resonances, as well as Zhou vanishing lemma is effective under the $L^1(\R)$ small-norm assumption. With inverse scattering theory and the Riemann-Hilbert approach, we rigorously establish the bijectivity and Lipschitz continuous of the direct and inverse scattering map from the initial data to reflection coefficients.By using reconstruction formula and the Plemelj projection estimates of reflection coefficients,we further obtain the existence of the local solution and the priori estimates, which assure the existence of the global solution to the Cauchy problem for the nonlocal NLS equation.

Long-time asymptotic behavior for the Novikov equation in solitonic regions of space time

In this paper, we study the long time asymptotic behavior for the Cauchy problem of the Novikov equation with $3\times 3$ matrix spectral problem \begin{align} &u_{t}-u_{txx}+4 u_{x}=3uu_xu_{xx}+u^2u_{xxx}, \nonumber &u(x, 0)=u_{0}(x),\nonumber \end{align} where $u_0(x)$ $u_0(x)\rightarrow κ>0, \ x\rightarrow \pm \infty$ and $u_0(x)-κ$ is assumed in the Schwarz space. It is shown that the solution of the Cauchy problem can be characterized via a Riemann-Hilbert problem in a new scale $(y,t)$ with $$y=x-\int_{x}^{\infty}\left( (u-u_{xx}+1)^{2/3} -1\right) ds.$$ In different space-time solitonic regions of $ξ=y/t\in (-\infty,-1/8)\cup(1,+\infty) $ and $ξ\in(-1/8,1)$, we apply $\overline\partial$ steepest descent method to obtain the different long time asymptotic expansions of the solution $u(y,t)$. The corresponding residual error order is $\mathcal{O}(t^{-1+ρ})$ and $\mathcal{O}(t^{-3/4})$ respectively from a $\overline\partial$-equation. Our result implies that soliton resolution can be characterized with an $N(Λ)$-soliton whose parameters are modulated by a sum of localized soliton-soliton interactions as one moves through the regions.

Long-time asymptotics for the focusing Fokas-Lenells equation in the solitonic region of space-time

We study the long-time asymptotic behavior of the focusing Fokas-Lenells (FL) equation $$ u_{xt}+αβ^2u-2iαβu_x-αu_{xx}-iαβ^2|u|^2u_x=0 \label{cs} $$ with generic initial data in a Sobolev space which supports bright soliton solutions. The FL equation is an integrable generalization of the well-known Schrodinger equation, and also linked to the derivative Schrodinger model, but it exhibits several different characteristics from theirs. (i) The Lax pair of the FL equation involves an additional spectral singularity at $k=0$. (ii) four stationary phase points will appear during asymptotic analysis, which require a more detailed necessary description to obtain the long-time asymptotics of the focusing FL equation. Based on the Riemann-Hilbert problem for the initial value problem of the focusing FL equation, we show that inside any fixed time-spatial cone $$\mathcal{C}\left(x_{1}, x_{2}, v_{1}, v_{2}\right)=\left\{(x, t) \in \mathbb{R}^{2} | x=x_{0}+v t, x_{0} \in\left[x_{1}, x_{2}\right], v \in\left[v_{1}, v_{2}\right]\right\},$$ the long-time asymptotic behavior of the solution $u(x,t)$ for the focusing FL equation can be characterized with an $N(\mathcal{I})$-soliton on discrete spectrums and a leading order term $\mathcal{O}(|t|^{-1/2})$ on continuous spectrum up to a residual error order $\mathcal{O}(|t|^{-3/4})$. The main tool is the $\overline{\partial}$ nonlinear steepest descent method and the $\overline{\partial}$-analysis.

Painleve-type asymptotics for the defocusing Hirota equation in transition region

We consider the Cauchy problem for the classical Hirota equation on the line with decaying initial data. Based on the spectral analysis of the Lax pair of the Hirota equation, we first expressed the solution of the Cauchy problem in terms of the solution of a Riemann-Hilbert problem. Further we apply nonlinear steepest descent analysis to obtain the long-time asymptotics of the solution in the critical transition region $|\frac{x}{t} - \frac{α^2}{3β}|t^{2/3} \leq M$, $M$ is a positive constant. Our result shows that the long time asymptotics of the Hirota equation can be expressed in terms of the solution of Painlevé $\mathrm{II}$ equation. Keywords: Hirota equation, steepest descent method, Painlevé $\mathrm{II}$ equation, long-time asymptotics.

The complex mKdV equation with step-like initial data: Large time asymptotic analysis

In this paper, we study large-time asymptotics for the complex modified Korteveg-de Vries equation \begin{equation} u_t + \frac{1}{2}u_{xxx}+3|u|^2 u_x=0, \end{equation} with the step-like initial data \begin{equation} u(x,0)=u_0(x)= \begin{cases} 0, & {x \ge 0,}\\ A e^{iBx}, &{x < 0.} \end{cases} \end{equation} It is shown that the step-like initial problem can be described by a matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem. We apply the steepest descent method to obtain different large-time asymptotics in the the Zakharov-Manakov region, a plane wave region and a slow decay region.

The defocusing NLS equation with nonzero background: Large-time asymptotics in the solitonless region

We consider the Cauchy problem for the defocusing Schr$\ddot{\text{o}}$dinger (NLS) equation with a nonzero background $$\begin{align} &iq_t+q_{xx}-2(|q|^2-1)q=0, \nonumber\\ &q(x,0)=q_0(x), \quad \lim_{x \to \pm \infty}q_0(x)=\pm 1. \end{align}$$ Recently, for the space-time region $|x/(2t)|<1$ which is a solitonic region without stationary phase points on the jump contour, Cuccagna and Jenkins presented the asymptotic stability of the $N$-soliton solutions for the NLS equation by using the $\bar{\partial}$ generalization of the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method. Their large-time asymptotic expansion takes the form \begin{align} q(x,t)= T(\infty)^{-2} q^{sol,N}(x,t) + \mathcal{O}(t^{-1 }),\label{res1} \end{align} whose leading term is N-soliton and the second term $\mathcal{O}(t^{-1})$ is a residual error from a $\overline\partial$-equation. In this paper, we are interested in the large-time asymptotics in the space-time region $ |x/(2t)|>1$ which is outside the soliton region, but there will be two stationary points appearing on the jump contour $\mathbb{R}$. We found a asymptotic expansion that is different from (\ref{res1}) $$\begin{align} q(x,t)= e^{-iα(\infty)} \left(1 +t^{-1/2} h(x,t) \right)+\mathcal{O}\left(t^{-3/4}\right),\label{res2} \end{align}$$ whose leading term is a nonzero background, the second $t^{-1/2}$ order term is from continuous spectrum and the third term $\mathcal{O}(t^{-3/4})$ is a residual error from a $\overline\partial$-equation.The above two asymptotic results (\ref{res1}) and (\ref{res2}) imply that the region $ |x/(2t)|<1$ considered by Cuccagna and Jenkins is a fast decaying soliton solution region, while the region $ |x/(2t)|>1$ considered by us is a slow decaying nonzero background region.

Long time asymptotic behavior for the derivative Schrödinger equation with nonzero boundary conditions

In this paper, we apply $\overline\partial$ steepest descent method to study the Cauchy problem for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with nonzero boundary conditions \begin{align} &iq_{t}+q_{xx}+iσ(|q|^2q)_{x}=0,\\ & (x,0) = q_0(x), \quad\lim_{x\to\pm\infty} q_0(x) = q_\pm,\end{align} where $|q_\pm|=1$. Based on the spectral analysis of the Lax pair, we express the solution of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation in terms of solutions of a Riemann-Hilbert problem. In a fixed space-time solitonic region $-3<x/t<-1$, we compute the long time asymptotic expansion of the solution $q(x,t)$,which implies soliton resolution conjecture and can be characterized with an $N(Λ)$-soliton whose parameters are modulated bya sum of localized soliton-soliton interactions as one moves through the region; the residual error order $\mathcal{O}( t^{-3/4})$ from a $\overline\partial$ equation.

Long time asymptotics for the nonlocal mKdV equation with finite density initial data

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for an integrable real nonlocal (also called reverse-space-time) mKdV equation with nonzero boundary conditions \begin{align*} &q_t(x,t)-6σq(x,t)q(-x,-t)q_{x}(x,t)+q_{xxx}(x,t)=0, &q(x,0)=q_{0}(x),\lim_{x\to \pm\infty} q_{0}(x)=q_{\pm}, \end{align*} where $|q_{\pm}|=1$ and $q_{+}=δq_{-}$, $σδ=-1$. Based on the spectral analysis of the Lax pair, we express the solution of the Cauchy problem of the nonlocal mKdV equation in terms of a Riemann-Hilbert problem. In a fixed space-time solitonic region $-6<x/t<6$, we apply $\bar{\partial}$-steepest descent method to analyze the long-time asymptotic behavior of the solution $q(x,t)$. We find that the long time asymptotic behavior of $q(x,t)$ can be characterized with an $N(Λ)$-soliton on discrete spectrum and leading order term $\mathcal{O}(t^{-1/2})$ on continuous spectrum up to an residual error order $\mathcal{O}(t^{-1})$.

Long-time asymptotic behavior of the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation with initial potential in weighted sobolev space

In this paper, we are going to investigate Cauchy problem for nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the initial potential $q_0(x)$ in weighted sobolev space $H^{1,1}(\mathbb{R})$, \begin{align*} iq_t(x,t)&+q_{xx}(x,t)+2σq^2(x,t)\bar q(-x,t)=0,\quadσ=\pm1,\\ q(x,0)&=q_0(x). \end{align*} We show that the solution can be represented by the solution of a Riemann-Hilbert problem (RH problem), and assuming no discrete spectrum, we majorly apply $\bar\partial$-steepest cescent descent method on analyzing the long-time asymptotic behavior of it.

Critical edge behavior in the singularly perturbed Pollaczek-Jacobi type unitary ensemble

In this paper, we study the strong asymptotic for the orthogonal polynomials and universality associated with singularly perturbed Pollaczek-Jacobi type weight $$w_{p_J2}(x,t)=e^{-\frac{t}{x(1-x)}}x^α(1-x)^β, $$ where $t \ge 0$, $α>0$, $β>0$ and $x \in [0,1].$ Our main results obtained here include two aspects: { I. Strong asymptotics:} We obtain the strong asymptotic expansions for the monic Pollaczek-Jacobi type orthogonal polynomials in different interval $(0,1)$ and outside of interval $\mathbb{C}\backslash (0,1)$, respectively; Due to the effect of $\frac{t}{x(1-x)}$ for varying $t$, different asymptotic behaviors at the hard edge $0$ and $1$ were found with different scaling schemes. Specifically, the uniform asymptotic behavior can be expressed as a Airy function in the neighborhood of point $1$ as $ζ= 2n^2t \to \infty, n\to \infty$, while it is given by a Bessel function as $ζ\to 0, n \to \infty$. { II. Universality:} We respectively calculate the limit of the eigenvalue correlation kernel in the bulk of the spectrum and at the both side of hard edge, which will involve a $ψ$-functions associated with a particular Painlev$\acute{e}$ \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral3} equation near $x=\pm 1$. Further, we also prove the $ψ$-funcation can be approximated by a Bessel kernel as $ζ\to 0$ compared with a Airy kernel as $ζ\to \infty$. Our analysis is based on the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method for the Riemann-Hilbert problems.

Soliton Resolution for the Short-pluse Equation

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the focusing nonlinear short-pluse equation by using $\overline\partial$ steepest descent method. \begin{align} &u_{xt}=u+\frac{1}{6}(u^3)_{xx}, \nonumber\\ &u(x,0)=u_0(x)\in H^{1,1}(R),\nonumber \end{align} where $H^{1,1}(R)$ is a weighted Sobolev space. Because the spectral variable z is the same order in the WKI-type Lax pair, we construct the solution of SP equation in the new scale $(y,t)$, whereas the original scale $(x,t)$ is given in terms of functions in the new scale and the solution of Riemann-Hilbert problem. In any fixed space-time cone of the new scale $(y,t)$ which stratify that $v_1\leq v_1 \in R^-$ and $ξ=\frac{y}{t}<0$, \begin{equation} C(y_1,y_2,v_1,v_2) = \left\lbrace (y,t) \in R^2|y=y_0+vt, y_0 \in[y_1,y_2]\text{, } v\in[v_1,v_2]\right\rbrace, \nonumber \end{equation} we compute the long time asymptotic expansion of the solution $u(x,t)$, which prove soliton resolution conjecture consisting of three terms: the leading order term can be characterized with an $N(I)$-soliton whose parameters are modulated by a sum of localied soliton-soliton interactions as one moves through the cone; the second $t^{-1/2}$ order term coming from soliton-radiation interactions on continuous spectrum up to an residual error order $\mathcal{O}(|t|^{-1})$ from a $\overline\partial$ equation. Our results also show that soliton solutions of short-pluse equation are asymptotically stable.

Inverse scattering transformation for the Fokas-Lenells equation with nonzero boundary conditions

In this article, we focus on the inverse scattering transformation for the Fokas-Lenells (FL) equation with nonzero boundary conditions via the Riemann-Hilbert (RH) approach. Based on the Lax pair of the FL equation, the analyticity and symmetry, asymptotic behavior of Jost solutions and scattering matrix are discussed in detail. With these results, we further present a generalized RH problem, from which a reconstruction formula between the solution of the FL equation and the Riemann-Hilbert problem is obtained. The N-soliton solutions of the FL equation is obtained via solving the RH problem.

Riemann-Hilbert approach to the modified nonlinear Schröinger equation with non-vanishing asymptotic boundary conditions

The modified nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation was proposed to describe the nonlinear propagation of the Alfven waves and the femtosecond optical pulses in a nonlinear single-mode optical fiber. In this paper, the inverse scattering transform for the modified NLS equation with non-vanishing asymptotic boundary at infinity is presented. An appropriate two-sheeted Riemann surface is introduced to map the original spectral parameter $k$ into a single-valued parameter $z$. The asymptotic behaviors, analyticity and the symmetries of the Jost solutions of Lax pair for the modified NLS equation, as well as the spectral matrix are analyzed in details. Then a matrix Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problem associated with the problem of nonzero asymptotic boundary conditions is established, from which $N$-soliton solutions is obtained via the corresponding reconstruction formulae. As an illustrate examples of $N$-soliton formula, two kinds of one-soliton solutions and three kinds of two-soliton solutions are explicitly presented according to different distribution of the spectrum. The dynamical feature of those solutions are characterized in the particular case with a quartet of discrete eigenvalues. It is shown that distribution of the spectrum and non-vanishing boundary also affect feature of soliton solutions. Finally, we analyze the differences between our results and those on zero boundary case.

The Sasa-Satsuma equation with non-vanishing boundary conditions

We concentrate on inverse scattering transformation for the Sasa-Satsuma equation with $3\times 3$ matrix spectral and nonzero boundary condition in this article. To circumvent multi valuedness of eigenvalues, we introduce a suitable two-sheet Riemann surface to map the original spectral parameter $k$ into a single-valued parameter $z$. The analyticity of the Jost eigenfunctions and scattering coefficients of Lax pair for the SS equation are analyzed in details. According to the analyticity of eigenfunctions and scattering coefficients, the $z$-complex plane is divided into four analytic regions $D_j, \ j=1, 2, 3, 4$. Since the second column of Jost eigenfunctions is analytic in $D_{j}, \ j=1, 2, 3, 4$, but in upper-half or lower-half plane, we introduce certain auxiliary eigenfunctions which are necessary for deriving the analytic eigenfunctions in $D_{j}$. We find that for the eigenfunctions, scattering coefficients and the auxiliary eigenfunctions all possess three kinds of symmetries, which characterize the distribution of discrete spectrum. The asymptotic behaviors of eigenfunctions, auxiliary eigenfunctions and scattering coefficients are also systematically derived. Then a matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem with four kind jump conditions associated with the problem of nonzero asymptotic boundary conditions is established, from which $N$-soliton solutions is obtained via the corresponding reconstruction formulae. The reflectionless soliton solutions are explicitly given. As application of the $N$-soliton formula, we present three kinds of single-soliton solutions according to the distribution of discrete spectrum.

Initial-boundary value problem for integrable nonlinear evolution equations with $3\times 3$ Lax pairs on the interval

We present an approach for analyzing initial-boundary value problems which is formulated on the finite interval ($0\le x\le L$, where $L$ is a positive constant) for integrable equations whose Lax pairs involve $3\times 3$ matrices. Boundary value problems for integrable nonlinear evolution PDEs can be analyzed by the unified method introduced by Fokas and developed by him and his collaborators. In this paper, we show that the solution can be expressed in terms of the solution of a $3\times 3$ Riemann-Hilbert problem. The relevant jump matrices are explicitly given in terms of the three matrix-value spectral functions $s(k)$,$S(k)$ and $S_L(k)$, which in turn are defined in terms of the initial values, boundary values at $x=0$ and boundary values at $x=L$, respectively. However, these spectral functions are not independent, they satisfy a global relation. Here, we show that the characterization of the unknown boundary values in terms of the given initial and boundary data is explicitly described for a nonlinear evolution PDE defined on the interval. Also, we show that in the limit when the length of the interval tends to infity, the relevant formulas reduce to the analogous formulas obtained for the case of boundary value problems formulated on the half-line.

Large n-limit for Random matrices with External Source with 3 eigenvalues

In this paper, we analyze the large n-limit for random matrix with external source with three distinct eigenvalues. And we confine ourselves in the Hermite case and the three distinct eigenvalues are $-a,0,a$. For the case $a^2>3$, we establish the universal behavior of local eigenvalue correlations in the limit $n\rightarrow \infty$, which is known from unitarily invariant random matrix models. Thus, local eigenvalue correlations are expressed in terms of the sine kernel in the bulk and in terms of the Airy kernel at the edge of the spectrum. The result can be obtained by analyzing $4\times 4$ Riemann-Hilbert problem via nonlinear steepest decent method.

Perturbed Hankel determinant, correlation functions and Painlevé equations

We continue with the study of the Hankel determinant, $$ D_{n}(t,α,β):=\det\left(\int_{0}^{1}x^{j+k}w(x;t,α,β)dx\right)_{j,k=0}^{n-1}, $$ generated by a Pollaczek-Jacobi type weight, $$ w(x;t,α,β):=x^α(1-x)^β{\rm e}^{-t/x}, \quad x\in [0,1], \quad α>0, \quad β>0, \quad t\geq 0. $$ This reduces to the "pure" Jacobi weight at $t=0.$ We may take $α\in \mathbb{R}$, in the situation while $t$ is strictly greater than $0.$ It was shown in Chen and Dai (2010), that the logarithmic derivative of this Hankel determinant satisfies a Jimbo-Miwa-Okamoto $σ$-form of Painlevé \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral5} (${\rm P_{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral5}}}$). In fact the logarithmic of the Hankel determinant has an integral representation in terms of a particular ${\rm P_{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral5}}}.$ \\ In this paper, we show that, under a double scaling, where $n$ the dimension of the Hankel matrix tends to $\infty$, and $t$ tends to $0^{+},$ such that $s:=2n^2t$ is finite, the double scaled Hankel determinant (effectively an operator determinant) has an integral representation in terms of a particular ${\rm P_{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral3}'}}.$ Expansions of the scaled Hankel determinant for small and large $s$ are found. A further double scaling with $α=-2n+λ,$ where $n\rightarrow \infty$ and $t,$ tends to $0^{+},$ such that $s:=nt$ is finite. In this situation the scaled Hankel determinant has an integral representation in terms of a particular ${\rm P_{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral5}}},$ %which can be degenerate to a particular ${\rm P_{\uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral3}}}$ and its small and large $s$ asymptotic expansions are also found.

The GLM representation of the global relation for the two-component nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the interval

In a previous work, we show that the solution of the initial-boundary value problem for the two-component nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the finite interval can be expressed in terms of the solution of a $3\times 3$ Riemann-Hilbert problem. The relevant jump matrices are explicitly given in terms of the three matrix-value spectral functions $s(k)$, $S(k)$ and $S_L(k)$, which in turn are defined in terms of the initial values, boundary values at $x=0$ and boundary values at $x=L$, respectively. However, for a well-posed problem, only part of the boundary values can be prescribed, the remaining boundary data cannot be independently specified, but are determined by the so-called global relation. Here, we use a Gelfand-Levitan-Marchenko representation to derive an expression for the generalized Dirichlet-to-Neumann map to characterize the unknown boundary values in physical domain, which is different from the approach, in fact it analyzed the global relation in spectral domain, used in the previous work. And, we can show that these two representations are equivalent.

The unified transform method for the Sasa-Satsuma equation on the interval

We present a Riemann-Hilbert problem formalism for the initial-boundary value problem for the Sasa-Satsuma(SS) equation on the finite interval. Assume that the solution existes, we show that this solution can be expressed in terms of the solution of a $3\times 3$ Riemann-Hilbert problem. Here, we analyze the global relation to characterize the unknown boundary values in terms of the given initial and boundary data.

Long-time asymptotic for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with step-like initial value

We consider the Cauchy problem for the Gerdjikov-Ivanov(GI) type of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation: $$iq_t+q_{xx}-iq^2\bar{q}_x+\frac{1}{2}|q|^4{q}=0.$$ with steplike initial data: $q(x,0)=0$ for $x\le 0$ and $q(x,0)=Ae^{-2iBx}$ for $x>0$,where $A>0$ and $B\in \R$ are constants. The paper aims at studying the long-time asymptotics of the solution to this problem. We show that there are four regions in the half-plane $-\infty<x<\infty,t>0$,where the asymptotics has qualitatively different forms:a slowly decaying self-similar wave of Zakharov-Manakov type for $x>-4tB$, a plane wave region:$x<-4t(B+\sqrt{2A^2(B+\frac{A^2}{4})})$, an elliptic region:$-4t(B+\sqrt{2A^2(B+\frac{A^2}{4})})<x<-4tB$. The main tool is the asymptotic analysis of an associated matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem.

The algebro-geometric solutions for Degasperis-Procesi hierarchy

Though completely integrable Camassa-Holm (CH) equation and Degasperis-Procesi (DP) equation are cast in the same peakon family, they possess the second- and third-order Lax operators, respectively. From the viewpoint of algebro-geometrical study, this difference lies in hyper-elliptic and non-hyper-elliptic curves. The non-hyper-elliptic curves lead to great difficulty in the construction of algebro-geometric solutions of the DP equation. In this paper, we derive the DP hierarchy with the help of Lenard recursion operators. Based on the characteristic polynomial of a Lax matrix for the DP hierarchy, we introduce a third order algebraic curve $\mathcal{K}_{r-2}$ with genus $r-2$, from which the associated Baker-Akhiezer functions, meromorphic function and Dubrovin-type equations are established. Furthermore, the theory of algebraic curve is applied to derive explicit representations of the theta function for the Baker-Akhiezer functions and the meromorphic function. In particular, the algebro-geometric solutions are obtained for all equations in the whole DP hierarchy.

The algebro-geometric solutions for Hunter-Saxton hierarchy

This paper is dedicated to provide theta function representation of algebro-geometric solutions and related crucial quantities for the Hunter-Saxton (HS) hierarchy through studying a algebro-geometric initial value problem. Our main tools include the polynomial recursive formalism to derive the HS hierarchy, the hyperelliptic curve with finite number of genus, the Baker-Akhiezer functions, the meromorphic function, the Dubrovin-type equations for auxiliary divisors, and the associated trace formulas. With the help of these tools, the explicit representations of the Baker-Ahhiezer functions, the meromorphic function, and the algebro-geometric solutions are obtained for the entire HS hierarchy.

The Algebro-Geometric Solutions for the Ruijsenaars-Toda Hierarchy

We provide a detailed treatment of Ruijsenaars-Toda (RT) hierarchy with special emphasis on its the theta function representation of all algebro-geometric solutions. The basic tools involve hyperelliptic curve $\mathcal{K}_p$ associated with the Burchnall-Chaundy polynomial, Dubrovin-type equations for auxiliary divisors and associated trace formulas. With the help of a foundamental meromorphic function $ϕ$, Baker-Akhiezer vector $Ψ$ on $\mathcal{K}_p$, the complex-valued algebro-geometric solutions of RT hierarchy are derived.

The coupled Schodinger hierarchy associated with third-order algebraic curves and algebro-geometric solutions

By introducing Lenard recursion equations, we derive a general coupled nonlinear Sch$\mathrm{\ddot{o}}$dinger (CNLS) hierarchy associated with well-known Manakov system and Sasa-Satsuma system. Based on the characteristic polynomial of Lax matrix for CNLS hierarchy, we obtain a third order algebraic curve $\mathcal{K}_{m-2}$ of arithmetic genus $m-2$, from which we establish the associated Baker-Ahhiezer functions, meromorphic function and Dubrovin-type equations for analogs of Dirichlet and Neumann divisors. Using these results and the theory of algebraic curve, we obtain the explicit theta function representations of the Baker-Ahhiezer functions, the meromorphic function, and in particular, of the algebro-geometric solutions for the entire CNLS hierarchy.

The derivative nonlinear Schrodinger equation on the interval

We use the Fokas method to analyze the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation $iq_t(x,t)=-q_{xx}(x,t)+(r q^2)_x$ on the interval $[0,L]$. Assuming that the solution $q(x,t)$ exists, we show that it can be represented in terms of the solution of a matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem formulated in the plane of the complex spectral parameter $\x$. This problem has explicit $(x,t)$ dependence, and it has jumps across $\{\x \in \C|\im{\x^4}=0 \}$. The relevant jump matrices are explicitly given in terms of the spectral functions $\{a(\x),b(\x)\},\{A(\x),B(\x)\}$, and $\{\ca({\x}),\cb(\x)\}$, which in turn are defined in terms of the initial data $q_0(x)=q(x,0)$, the boundary data $g_0(t)=q(0,t),g_1(t)=q_x(0,t)$, and another boundary values $f_0(t)=q(L,t),f_1(t)=q_x(L,t)$. The spectral functions are not independent, but related by a compatibility condition, the so-called global relation.

On Negative Order KdV Equations

In this paper, based on the regular KdV system, we study negative order KdV (NKdV) equations about their Hamiltonian structures, Lax pairs, infinitely many conservation laws, and explicit multi-soliton and multi-kink wave solutions thorough bilinear Bäcklund transformations. The NKdV equations studied in our paper are differential and actually derived from the first member in the negative order KdV hierarchy. The NKdV equations are not only gauge-equivalent to the Camassa-Holm equation through some hodograph transformations, but also closely related to the Ermakov-Pinney systems, and the Kupershmidt deformation. The bi-Hamiltonian structures and a Darboux transformation of the NKdV equations are constructed with the aid of trace identity and their Lax pairs, respectively. The single and double kink wave and bell soliton solutions are given in an explicit formula through the Darboux transformation. The 1-kink wave solution is expressed in the form of $tanh$ while the 1-bell soliton is in the form of $sech$, and both forms are very standard. The collisions of 2-kink-wave and 2-bell-soliton solutions, are analyzed in details, and this singular interaction is a big difference from the regular KdV equation. Multi-dimensional binary Bell polynomials are employed to find bilinear formulation and Bäcklund transformations, which produce $N$-soliton solutions. A direct and unifying scheme is proposed for explicitly building up quasi-periodic wave solutions of the NKdV equations. Furthermore, the relations between quasi-periodic wave solutions and soliton solutions are clearly described. Finally, we show the quasi-periodic wave solution convergent to the soliton solution under some limit conditions.

A Riemann theta function formula with its application to double periodic wave solutions of nonlinear equations

Based on a Riemann theta function and Hirota's bilinear form, a lucid and straightforward way is presented to explicitly construct double periodic wave solutions for both nonlinear differential and difference equations. Once such a equation is written in a bilinear form, its periodic wave solutions can be directly obtained by using an unified theta function formula. The relations between the periodic wave solutions and soliton solutions are rigorously established. The efficiency of our proposed method can be demonstrated on a class variety of nonlinear equations such as those considered in this paper, shall water wave equation, (2+1)-dimensional Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff equation and differential-difference KdV equation.

Bilinear approach to the quasi-periodic wave solutions of supersymmetric equations in superspace

We devise a lucid and straightforward way for explicitly constructing quasi-periodic wave solutions (also called multi-periodic wave solutions) of supersymmetric equations in superspace $\mathbb{R}_Λ^{2,1}$ over two-dimensional Grassmann algebra $G_1(σ)$. Once a nonlinear equation is written in a bilinear form, its quasi-periodic wave solutions can be directly obtained by using a formula. Moreover, properties of these solutions are investigated in detail by analyzing their structures, plots and asymptotic behaviors. The relations between the quasi-periodic wave solutions and soliton solutions are rigorously established. It is shown that the soliton solutions can be obtained only as limiting cases of the quasi-periodic wave solutions under small amplitude limits in superspace $\mathbb{R}_Λ^{2,1}$. We find that, in contrast to the purely bosonic case, there is an interesting influencing band occurred among the quasi-periodic waves under the presence of the Grassmann variable. The quasi-periodic waves are symmetric about the band but collapse along with the band. Furthermore, the amplitudes of the quasi-periodic waves increase as the waves move away from the band. The efficiency of our proposed method can be demonstrated on a class variety of supersymmetric equations such as those considered in this paper, $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric KdV, Sawada-Kotera-Ramani and Ito's equations, as well as $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric KdV equation.

Binary Bell polynomials approach to the integrability of nonisospectral and variable-coefficient nonlinear equations

Recently, Lembert, Gilson et al proposed a lucid and systematic approach to obtain bilinear Bäcklund transformations and Lax pairs for constant-coefficient soliton equations based on the use of binary Bell polynomials. In this paper, we would like to further develop this method with new applications. We extend this method to systematically investigate complete integrability of nonisospectral and variable-coefficient equations. In addiction, a method is described for deriving infinite conservation laws of nonlinear evolution equations based on the use of binary Bell polynomials. All conserved density and flux are given by explicit recursion formulas. By taking variable-coefficient KdV and KP equations as illustrative examples, their bilinear formulism, bilinear Bäcklund transformations, Lax pairs, Darboux covariant Lax pairs and conservation laws are obtained in a quick and natural manner. In conclusion, though the coefficient functions have influences on a variable-coefficient nonlinear equation, under certain constrains the equation turn out to be also completely integrable, which leads us to a canonical interpretation of their $N$-soliton solutions in theory.

Explicit quasi-periodic wave solutions and asymptotic analysis to the supersymmetric Ito's equation

Based on a Riemann theta function and the super-Hirota bilinear form, we propose a key formula for explicitly constructing quasi-periodic wave solutions of the supersymmetric Ito's equation in superspace $\mathbb{C}_Λ^{2,1}$. Once a nonlinear equation is written in bilinear forms, then the quasi-periodic wave solutions can be directly obtained from our formula. The relations between the periodic wave solutions and the well-known soliton solutions are rigorously established. It is shown that the quasi-periodic wave solutions tends to the soliton solutions under small amplitude limits.

Generalized Super Bell Polynomials with Applications to Superymmetric Equations

In this paper, we introduce a class of new generalized super Bell polynomials on a superspace, explore their properties, and show that they are a natural and effective tool to systematically investigate integrability of supersymmetric equations. The connections between the super Bell polynomials and super bilinear representation, bilinear Bäcklund transformation, Lax pair and infinite conservation laws of supersymmetric equations are established. We take supersymmetric KdV equation and supersymmetric sine-Gordon equation to illustrate this procedure.
