Strong density of spherical characters attached to unipotent subgroups

We prove the following result in relative representation theory of a reductive p-adic group $G$: Let $U$ be the unipotent radical of a minimal parabolic subgroup of $G$, and let $ψ$ be an arbitrary smooth character of $U$. Let $S \subset Irr(G)$ be a Zariski dense collection of irreducible representations of $G$. Then the span of the Bessel distributions $B_π$ attached to representations $π$ from $S$ is dense in the space $\mathcal S^*(G)^{U\times U,ψ\times ψ}$ of all $(U\times U,ψ\times ψ)$-equivariant distributions on $G.$ We base our proof on the following results: 1. The category of smooth representations $\mathcal M(G)$ is Cohen-Macaulay. 2. The module $ind_U^G(ψ)$ is a projective module.

The most continuous part of the Plancherel decomposition for a real spherical space

In this article we give a precise description of the Plancherel decomposition of the most continuous part of $L^{2}(Z)$ for a real spherical homogeneous space $Z$. Our starting point is the recent construction of Bernstein morphisms by Delorme, Knop, Krötz and Schlichtkrull. The most continuous part decomposes into a direct integral of unitary principal series representations. We give an explicit construction of the $H$-invariant functionals on these principal series. We show that for generic induction data the multiplicity space equals the full space of $H$-invariant functionals. Finally, we determine the inner products on the multiplicity spaces by refining the Maass-Selberg relations.

Klyachko models for ladder representations

We give a new proof of the existence of Klyachko models for unitary representations of ${\rm GL}_{n}(F)$ over a non-archimedean local field $F$. Our methods are purely local and are based on studying distinction within the class of ladder representations introduced by Lapid and Minguez. We classify those ladder representations that are distinguished with respect to Klyachko models. We prove the hereditary property of these models for induced representations from arbitrary finite length representations. Finally, in the other direction and in the context of admissible representations induced from ladder, we study the relation between distinction of the parabolic induction with respect to the symplectic groups and distinction of the inducing data.

Invariant Functionals on the Speh representation

We study Sp(2n,R)-invariant functionals on the spaces of smooth vectors in Speh representations of GL(2n,R). For even n we give expressions for such invariant functionals using an explicit realization of the space of smooth vectors in the Speh representations. Furthermore, we show that the functional we construct is, up to a constant, the unique functional on the Speh representation which is invariant under the Siegel parabolic subgroup of Sp(2n,R). For odd n we show that the Speh representations do not admit an invariant functional with respect to the subgroup U(n) of Sp(2n,R) consisting of unitary matrices. Our construction, combined with the argument in [GOSS12], gives a purely local and explicit construction of Klyachko models for all unitary representations of GL(2n,R).

z-Finite distributions on p-adic groups

For a real reductive group G, the center $\mathfrak{z}(\mathcal{U}(\mathfrak{g}))$ of the universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of G acts on the space of distributions on G. This action proved to be very useful (see e.g. [HC63, HC65, Sha74, Bar03]). Over non-Archimedean local fields, one can replace this action by the action of the Bernstein center z of G, i.e. the center of the category of smooth representations. However, this action is not well studied. In this paper we provide some tools to work with this action and prove the following results. 1) The wave-front set of any z-finite distribution on G over any point $g\in G$ lies inside the nilpotent cone of $T_g^*G \cong \mathfrak{g}$. 2) Let $H_1,H_2 \subset G$ be symmetric subgroups. Consider the space J of $H_1\times H_2$-invariant distributions on G. We prove that the z-finite distributions in J form a dense subspace. In fact we prove this result in wider generality, where the groups $H_i$ are spherical groups of certain type and the invariance condition is replaced by equivariance. Further we apply those results to density and regularity of spherical characters. The first result can be viewed as a version of Howe's expansion of characters. The second result can be viewed as a spherical space analog of a classical theorem on density of characters of admissible representations. It can also be viewed as a spectral version of Bernstein's localization principle. In the Archimedean case, the first result is well-known and the second remains open.

Invariant measures on homogeneous spaces, with applications to function spaces and lattice counting

Let G be a real reductive group and G/H a unimodular homogeneous G space with a closed connected subgroup H. We establish estimates for the invariant measure on G/H. Using these, we prove that all smooth vectors in the Banach representation L^p(G/H) of G are functions that vanish at infinity if and only if G/H is of reductive type. An application to lattice counting on G/H is presented.
